  1. I picked up a new old shotgun at an auction recently and I finally got it from my FFL. It is a 1936 Remington Model 11 Sportsman autoloading shotgun, 16 ga. My FIL had a Browning A5 Sweet 16 at one time, sadly it was stolen. I was out bid on the lever guns I was really after and just following the auction and it popped up. The price was good, even with the buyer's premium. It included a period Lyman Cutts compensator with a full choke end. it also has a vintage rubber slip on recoil pad that was hard as a rock. Also, it will be a sweet mate for the 1936 Remington Model 81 autoloading rifle (.35 rem). They look quite similar. I did my normal teardown and deep cleaning, removed the old recoil pad (to find another underneath). The finish on the stock was meh, with obvious wear under the recoil pad. The forend was in good shape. Both pieces ended up with a deep clean/strip and a hand rubbed Danish oil finish. One of these days I will get it (and all the lever guns) to the range for a day of shooting. These photos are from the auction site: These were taken when I removed the recoil pad: These are after I put it all back together. The stock and forend will still get a few more hand rubbed layers of Danish Oil: The Model 81 for Reference:

  2. I grew up eating neck bones (pork) and potatoes. My mom and dad struggled to make ends meet, and back then you could buy 10 pounds of taters and 5 pounds of neck bones dirt cheap. Cook up a large back of pinto beans and make cornbread, and we ate well for a week! I still love neck bones and taters today!

  3. I’d never eaten lamb chops. I picked up some at Aldi’s and grilled them tonight. These things are wonderful!!! I wonder what else I’ve been missing out on.

  4. I marinated these in olive oil, garlic, rosemary, sea salt and coarse ground black pepper, then grilled to med rare. I believe the fresh rosemary is what really made it work.

  5. I was just talking less than two minutes ago how lamb is by far my favorite meat. The price is ridiculously expensive for decent cuts. Just polished off two lbs of lollipops. Costco sells a rack of lamb (lollipops) or shoulder usually on sale for $30. It’s enough for two people to feast. They also sell “spears” (I forget what ut it actually is) which I think is the vertebrae. Those bones will make the best broth that is unbelievably rich, I save all my white and dark meat bones and even ask for the leg bones off of deer at the processor to make bone broth for my dog. Crack them open, broil them for an hour to get the extra cartridge or collagen activated, drop em in a pot with vegetable trims and make some stock. Good for hearty stews and cheap tough cuts. If you go to some of the markets off of Charlotte since there’s a high influx of Egyptian and Kurd population you can get decent pricing on cuts of lamb/goat, goat is a bit gamier. They serve it traditionally with a mint sugar jelly which isn’t for me but is tasty. Marinade:Worcestershire, dry red, garlic rose Mary and thyme overnight. Either grill em high 3 minutes on each side or broil them basting constantly. Maybe too much information, but I absolutely love lamb. It’s a great date night meal for a special occasion and pairs nice w/ a Pinot noir if you’re into that.

  6. I have for sale a Springfield Ronin Lightweight Commander in 45acp. This has the aluminum frame. I have put 2 mags through it and it functioned perfectly. I bought this to use as a base gun to send to either Wilson or Nighthawk for upgrades but have since purchased a Wilson EDC X9 so I am selling it instead. $700 Chattanooga area

  7. The only lamb I’ve ever eaten is combined with beef, and served gyros style. I could eat them things everyday the rest of my life.

  8. Hello all, PSA... I went fishing a couple of weeks ago and stopped in to the welcome center at Bledsoe Creek State Park to get some info on fishing... Upon entering the building I noticed a No Firearms Permitted sign so I asked about it. She told me, even though it's a state park and CCW is permitted, this state part it's under the authority of the USACE and Open/CCW is not permitted. Can be locked up in car but not on you. I asked her if there is a way to get permissions and she said yes to contact the Nashville branch office and make the request, they only handle requests for the waters under their authority. 2-3 emails later, here's what I know, email your request to their office of your desire to CCW on all land/waters under the authority of USACE, provide a photo copy of front/back of your TN state issued ECP and they will process the request. Once granted (should be several days per the very helpful gentlemen I have been emailing with), a copy must be carried with you at all times, permission is for CCW only, NO open carrying allowed ever, permission is valid for the duration of your state issued permit... All in all, a very good experience even if it seems redundant and a waste of time, but free none the less Good luck Send email request and a copy of your TN State issued ECP (both sides) to: chief.public-affairs@usace.army.mil

  9. When I was in survival school - I remember the instructor telling us that a raccoon would feed a grown man for a week in the wild. We all turned up our noses at it. A week later when we snared one in the field after subsisting on whatever we could fine - you would've thought they were serving prime ribeyes. -- I have a friend who raised sheep for years for meat. He said they were about as low maintenance as livestock could be, significantly cheaper to finish than cows, and they kept the grass around the back of the house mowed. He said the biggest thing you had to keep in mind was "cattle not pets" - but if you could get past that it was a really great source of good protein.

  10. I agree with you that the average LEO doesn't want to arrest anyone JUST for this. I'm less worried about an overzealous cop pressing the issue than I am about an overzealous business owner (like Randy Rayburn) wanting to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

  11. I grew up mostly eating what I was able to hunt so wild game was on the menu quit often. My mother was a great a cook and she made what ever I bagged and cleaned taste great. I guess my favorite was snapping turtle. It could be prepared several different ways and I liked all of them. It's been years since I have had any but I can still remember how good it was. I have never had Lamb.

  22. I could see this happening. I've seen cops do things before that they really didnt want to do, but were goaded by someone. I once got a ticket after a traffic accident from a cop who clearly was NOT going to give me one but for the demands of the other person involved. I went to court berceuse I thought the other guy and the cop were both wrong. The judge, who luckily was very aware of that particular intersection, sided with me and dismissed the ticket. He was a bit of an a**h*** about it too to both the other guy and to the cop. But I illustrate this to mean that BigK makes a great point. I think this should be an easy fix, heck, other states have done it. Owner is withing his rights to tell you to leave or disarm. You go or face criminal trespass charge if you refuse.

  23. Have you ever had groundhog? Just about everybody laughs when I ask, but my dad would parboil it, shred it, and put BBQ sauce on it and finish it in the oven. Tasted delicious, but not near as good as lamb.

  30. I also think people being disarmed by the business owner should be able to sue if the business owner then does not provide any kind of security. This is just like the liberals trying to simultaneously disarm the citizens and defund the police.

  32. The Model 11 Remington is basically the same thing as a Browning Auto-5. Designed by JMB himself, it is recoil operated, not gas, so it’s got some thump to it. It also one of the most naturally pointing shotguns there is, if not the best.

  33. I love my model 11. It was my grandfathers. It was the only shotgun I used till my late 20’s. Was quite the shock when I used a different shotgun to find out that not all shotguns kick like a mule like the model 11.

  37. Another vote for the KORE belt. Its a ratchet belt, so small adjustments are easy and fast. And they come very long, made to cut to size yourself. You could keep it long and cut as you need. Plus, as you cut it, you are using a new section so the ratchets dont wear out. I dont even use the gun belt, just their regular belt. Which works great for a 380 and 9mm. Just got a new one actually, the first lasted 5 years and they are only about $40.

  38. If you’re losing weight, I might suggest Kore. I’ve got 2, one for casual and one for dress. Had them about a year now and am very happy with them. The reason I suggest that for you is, aside from the great support they provide, they are infinitely trimmable. As a matter of fact, the way you trim is from the attached buckle side of the belt, so the part you trim is always hidden by the buckle. I’m sure I’m not describing it right, but it works well. Only issue I’ve had is mine can be a tight fit thru some of my dress pants belt loops, but they do go thru.

  41. One of the places I look is ILya's (tongue-in-cheek "Dark Lord of Optics") website "Optic Thoughts": https://opticsthoughts.com/ His day job is in the optics industry, it seems primarily with defense-related stuff. His website has recommended optics (riflescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, etc.) in a variety of price ranges that he periodically updates. Current Riflescope Recommendations: https://opticsthoughts.com/?page_id=623 His YouTube channel (Dark Lord of Optics) videos contain a lot of reviews & theory info, but typically aren't very "exciting".

  42. The problem with Macs is that they are stupid expensive. I just looked at Best Buy. The cheapest Mac laptop was $899 with many going into the $2,000-$3,000 range. The one I would probably want is about $1,300. Are you kidding me? I can buy a Dell, ASUS, or HP for $350 or less... maybe up to a $100 at the annual sales or on Dell's outlet website. Then, I can download all the free software I need: LibreOffice. Every two years, I can toss my laptop and upgrade to a newer version. My 17.1 inch HP that I'm typing this on was $250. My wife's new Dell was $250. My 13.1 inch Chromebook I use when flying was $165. That's $665, plus another $550 for my Sig Sauer anti-theft device comes to only $1,215.   Granted, my laptops are a little heavier than a MacBook Air, but I've been working out... :biglol:
