Since we lost the liberty safe thread in the crash, figured I would repost the instructions on how to reset the master code for the Securan keypads used by Liberty and multiple other safe manufacturers. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1699653058865885511.html2 points

After watching 4” Anacondas on GB for the last 3 years, I was happy Colt finally decided to add a 4” model to the Anaconda line earlier this year. Truth be told, I have a love - hate relationship with Colt, so I reluctantly caved to fill the hole left in the stable by selling my 629. I just received it back from Colt today, the test target had 4 rounds making one large hole dead center. Look forward to taking my first shots with it. Hope to update with impressions after that.1 point

I've mentioned before how a touch of arthritis in my right hand makes it difficult for me to shoot the traditional Colt/Ruger style SA revolvers. Simply put, the shape of the plow handle grip causes the back of the trigger guard to beat the holy hell outta my middle finger knuckle. It only takes about one cylinder full to have me bleeding. So, in order to get my Cowboy fix, I've turned to other revolvers common in the old west. According to TV and movies, you'd think that every cowboy in the old west carried a Colt SAA. Not exactly true. The Colts were indeed quite popular, they weren't the only revolvers used by a long shot. For my needs, I've settled on the Remington Model 1875 and the Smith & Wesson Schofield both in .45 Colt caliber. You will note that the grip frame on both guns sits just a little bit further back on the frame that the traditional Colt style. This gives my poor knuckle just enough space to avoid damage. I might also mention that both of these guns originally came with 7-7.5" barrels. I have opted for the more modern 5-5.5" lengths as they just handle better for me. The Remington Model 1875 was their answer to the Colt SAA. Its really just their extremely successful Model 1858 Percussion Cap revolver fitted with a bored through cylinder. Its just a tad bit bigger, beefier and heaver than the Colt, but proved to be very popular in the old west. Many preferred its slightly more "heft". The Remington was known to be favored by Buffalo Bill Cody and outlaw Frank James among others. The big bore S&W break tops were also quite common in the old west. The Number 3 American in .44 S&W was very popular. Colonel George Schofield modified the latch mechanism to make it easier for mounted troops to unload and reload the revolver with one hand. The U.S. Army purchased around 8000 Schofield revolvers for their troops. S&W chambered the Army guns in .45 S&W Schofield caliber as the cylinder was just a bit too short for the standard .45 Colt cartridge. The two cartridges are identical except for length with the colt being just a tad bit longer. Little known fact: to simplify the supply chain, most ammo issued to troops was .45 S&W Schofield as it worked in either the Colt or S&W guns. Most modern reproductions, such as mine, have a slightly longer cylinder and are chambered in the more common .45 Colt caliber. Well, there you have it. Other revolvers popular in the old west. There are others as well such as some of the early DA revolvers. Show 'em if ya got 'em!1 point

So I finally pulled the trigger (pun intended) for an RAR. $429 + $19 shipping and didn’t get charged sales tax. https://www.familyfirearms.com/prod....62x39mm-flat-dark-earth-16976#product_detail I made this post on several of the forums I frequent. Scrubbed through them all, adding up the number of recommendations/feedback on the three primary models I’ve been considering. I really wanted to go with the HOWA (i.e. longer barrel, etc) but the assets of Ruger RAR overtake it (for me). Magazines were a biggie. I’d be glad to detail. No doubt plenty will be telling me my rationalizations are wrong and why. And that’s fine. Opens up debate and public learning for others to observe and make up their own mind. Not unlike the old arguments about “having” to clean up after a day shooting corrosive is no a big deal. I’ll run it to the range as outta the box first but 90% sure I’ll be going with a chassis of some kind. Picking up tomorrow and getting stock version to the range the next day or two for trial.1 point

I was all excited to buy another 45-70 and then I see you are wanting one. Lol. I have JMs and the new guide guns. One of my guide guns is threaded so can shoot suppressed. What a thrill that is. Both are excellent. I say all this so I can tell you you are gonna need both.1 point

I have both a Howa 1500 and a Ruger in 7.62x39. The Howa is much more refined in fit and finish and is basically a Remington 700 mini action Howa 5rd mags are hard to find - they seem to come out in batches. But, how many are really needed for a bolt-action? MDT makes 10rd mags and are readily available from their website, but are expensive ($120). My Howa also has 1/2x28 threads which are not common for 30 caliber muzzle devices. I found an AAC 51t flashhider I like. I also like the olive drab sporter stock it came with. The Ruger takes mini-30 mags which are readily available. Ruger 10rd mini-30 mags may have issues (check online reviews) - stick with 5rd or 20rd mags. It has 5/8x24 threads which are very common for 30 caliber. There is a last round bolt hold open feature when a mag remains inserted which I don’t care for. Hope that helps.1 point

Probably very few of us really need the speed of an auto, i think. The fact that they were illegal for ages made them attractive I think. Personally, I definitely did not want or need a dang safety, at least until I cut myself, that is, LOL.1 point

Am I the only one to find it odd that we all seem to want a lock/safety on an auto knife? I keep telling myself that makes it slower than a manual folder, so why pay for an auto when you could deploy a regular folder by the time you release the lock. I haven't convinced myself this is sound logic yet though because I still love autos.1 point

I have 1 bird that does the same thing and he acts like he is the boss. If another bird comes to feed on any of the other feeders he will go and try and run them off. While he is gone chasing that 1 bird several will rush in and feed while he is gone. When he comes back he will chase any off that is still on a feeder and then go back and sit on the same feeder. It's funny to watch him on guard duty!!! It's almost like they are playing a game.1 point

Hey gang. Welcome back to TGO. There is a lot to cover in this post, so I am going to try to hit things in the order of most important or impacting, to least. Where is my TGO user account? If you created an account on TGO after August 17th you will most likely need to create your account again. We lost almost 30-days worth of data in this crash. What Happened To My Benefactor Account? A lot of my work today has been around connecting Benefactor memberships with those who purchased them. I was successful with most of them, but there are a few of you (less than 10) that I will be reaching out to in email so that we can work together to get you squared away. I am prioritizing this near the top of importance because you guys keep TGO afloat and I will take care of you. I posted something and now it's gone! Anything posted after August 17th is lost. I am very sorry. I suppose the good news is that if you posted something and regretted it, you now have a second chance. This part really sucks and I am absolutely not trying to down-play it. Trust me, however upset you are, I am infinitely more upset. I hope that you'll dive back in and recreate whatever we lost. What happened?!? This is the million dollar question. Our server suffered a catastrophic hardware failure that could not be recovered from. Thankfully we had backups, but I had to go back 30-days in time to find a backup that was viable. This problem had unfortunately been brewing for a while and I did not notice it in time. Prior to today (9/18/23) we were using a different web hosting company. We aren't using them now because I am greatly disappointed in their ability to assist and am livid over the outcome. The best and only way for me to respond was to move TGO to another hosting company who I believe will be much more responsive and responsible. That said, I cannot place full blame on them. Sadly, I missed some signs which were obvious in hindsight so some of this is absolutely my fault. Especially related to backups. I am now making backups of my backups and storing them in several places (online, offline, and in the cloud) so that we have more recovery options if something like this ever happens again. How can we help?? Post, post, post. Dive back in and start using TGO. This will be a scar for a while, but like all scars it will eventually fade. Other than that, there really isn't anything to do. I just noticed [insert problem here]. If you notice anything weird with your account, especially with payments for Benefactor memberships, let me know. I'll sort it out and get you taken care of. That's about it for now. Thanks for your patience while we were offline. I suppose if there is a silver lining to all of this, it has provided a chance to do some things different and better behind the scenes. Hopefully those differences and improvements will equate to odds heavily in our favor for the future. --David1 point

I’m one of those people who sliced the ever living crap out of my finger with that particular group buy knife. It was magnificently, sharp and went really deep in the tip of my finger. So yeah, if you’re going to put an auto in your pocket it better have a manual safety.1 point

Protech is about the snappiest of all my switch blades except for my Gavin Hawk mod C OTF(but that one was around $1800 to have it built) I've had some Benchmade Out The Side Aoutos they were okay, I bought a Medford Smooth Criminal Out The Side but I wasn't really impressed by it, but every Protech Switch Blade has realy impressed me with how they open. I bought a couple of the TGO mod. that one of the members here would do every so often but not lately. I bought one of the TR4 w/4" blade and if your not careful or paying attention it will just about pop out of your hand when you open it and it's probably 5yrs old or a little more and I've carried that one almost daily and the spring and action are just like new still. The only other Aouto that snapped out fast and hard was my MicroTech Halo V OTF, but someone wanted it more than I did and helped their self to it one day at work, it was in my lunch box, git home and was cleaning it out and it was gone.1 point
