"The shutdown comes after Yellow failed to reorganize and refinance the roughly $1.5 billion dollars it had, as of March, in outstanding debt, a large portion of which came from the $700 million pandemic-era government loan." Too much debt and they could not manage to find any path to refinance it. A small amount of turmoil over the next few weeks as customers find alternate carriers. Trucking companies are dying for freight and drivers. They will quickly absorb both from YRC. Without getting into any political discussion or discussions of unions I will say that the Teamsters did not do YRC any favors. I worked for YRC years ago. I just picked up shifts in the busy season as a side gig but the influence of the union was readily apparent even to me, not in a good way either.5 points

First off, glad she is ok. For as much as we complain about technology having too great of impact on our lives, there are times it redeems itself. Being involved in dispatch systems for 20+ years it's amazing the things that are available and that truly make a difference in response times. I am so glad no one was in that passenger seat. Things like this force us to appreciate the little things a bit more. Glad it all worked out ok.4 points

That's a poor excuse by people who don't want to take the blame. UPS employees are in the same union and they made $13 BILLION in profit last year. Yellow was poorly managed. The longer I work for a corporation the more I come to appreciate unions. Drivers are horribly underpaid when you consider what they have to deal with and unions are about their only chance of getting decent pay and benefits.3 points

I have a friend who was employed by YRC until yesterday. The company has been mismanaged and dying for years. They have been repeatedly bailed out by the federal government (most recently $700 million in Covid money) and the Union (multiple concessionary contracts) and the union didn’t so much kill them as refuse to bail them out again letting them drown under their own ineptitude. Their customers knew what was coming and over the last year they’ve lost 30% of their volume and over the last number of years have shrank to 9% market share. Yellow was always going to die, it was simply a matter of when.3 points

From reports I read they've been in trouble for years. Much like the old Skyline Freight in the 90's I'm betting they will be bought up by one of the other larger companies for peanuts and sold off accordingly. In the world of logistics I doubt their closure will even move the needle for more than a week or two.3 points

I'm not a trucker, and don't pretend to know anything about that business, but happened on an unrelated article today stating that the entire trucking industry is currently suffering from a glut of capacity and a reduced number of available loads. According to this article, this industry is noted as having a long history of "boom and bust" cycles, with the huge uptick in shipping during the Covid fiasco and the subsequent slowdown since only exacerbating this tendency. Assuming that analysis is true, it's logical that the most poorly managed and financed companies would go belly up in such an environment. Yellow may be the first of several such large freight companies to go under ...2 points

OK...so I'm odd. My favorite role of his was as the Vampire sidekick in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Side note...Kristy Swanson was the Best Buffy!2 points

That's correct. There is so much capacity right now that this will ultimately be the case. I feel for their 30k employees and wish them well.2 points

Pauls sister, Abby, still practices law here in Nashville. Her step daughter and my daughter went to school together. She spent the weekend over at their house one weekend. She came home with a big grin and said guess who I got to hang out with this weekend. Paul had come home to visit his sister. I was so irritated that she got to hang out with Pee Wee and I didn't. lol2 points

GOODNESS!!! Bill, I have nothing to add that the others haven't already said, but it is clear the God has a purpose for her yet in this life. And hooray for whoever at Apple came up with the idea to build "crash detection" into the iPhone. WOW.2 points

@peejman The green beans are Landreth's Stringless Bush Green Bean. I've been using them for a couple of years and they definitely have produced more and for longer than any other green beans I've tried. I get the seeds from https://victoryseeds.com/ Everything I've tried from them has had good germination and production.2 points

I have two non-negotiable requirements for a pistol that I'm going to pocket carry - but a lot of moving pieces affect both of them. If I'm going to pocket carry, I have to first be able to get a full firing grip while it's in my pocket and second, I do not want to have to readjust that grip when it comes out of my pocket. If either of those conditions are lacking - it's a no go for pocket carry. In a full stress situation, you're not going to have time to draw, readjust your grip, and get on target. At best it's going to slow you down a lot - at worst you're going to fumble the pistol. The only pistol that has ever fit that bill for me is a j-frame riding in an aholster. Obviously all that is affected by a person's frame and build, and their clothing choices. So, YMMV.2 points

That is terrifying. I hope they fault the other vehicle or at least declare it no fault. Leaving a vehicle in the interstate travel lane with no lights is a recipe for disaster. I'm glad she's ok.2 points

I don’t have a single 9mm that I would want to pocket carry. My P365 is perfect for IWB, but too big for my pockets. I’ve got a Kahr MK9 that is slim and short enough, but with it being a SS slide and frame, it’s too heavy and swings around too much. I’ve tried my wife’s CR920 in the pocket but it’s too bulky. About the only thing I ever pocket carry is a Gen 1 LCP in .380 or a NAA Pug in .22 mag.2 points

Safety Reminder for Buyers and Sellers This is an automatic reply meant to protect you as a buyer and a seller on TGO. Use the Buyer/Seller Feedback feature to research who you are dealing with. Please come back and leave feedback for each other after the transaction is complete. Your experience will help others. Never agree to use an electronic form of payment to buy or sell a gun! None of the electronic payment services will protect you against fraud in a firearms transaction. They all have terms of service FORBIDDING the use of their services to buy/sell guns. DON'T DO IT. I picked 3, 5 gallon buckets of purple hills today. We canned one and gave the other two away. I didn’t get half way through them. Anybody close to Macon County that would like some?1 point

@seez52, Those little critters have remarkable memories and can remember where they fed the previous years and that is why they keep going to that area. I try to put the feeders in the same places each year. Another thing I began doing with this hot weather is I have an old refrigerator on the back deck and at night after they have quit feeding for the night I take the feeders down and put them in the fridge and before I go to bed I go out and rehang them with the cold food in the feeders cause they do most of their feeding early and the nectar is still cool. My friends say I am a little overboard on taking care of the birds. I tell them it gives me something to do....LOL.1 point

I'm with you on this. 100% I carry an LCR in an AHolster, but have certainly carried my 640 this way for a long time. I can have, as I've read elsewhere, a "Clandestine low ready" using this method, without telegraphing it to the world. I do have, and tried with my S&W Shield in an AHolster. Getting that full assured grip just wasn't consistent for me. Nor did it ever draw as smoothly as a J Frame sized revolver. Pocket carry is generally as a 2nd gun, but sometimes as a primary. The environment will dictate the carry method of course. Just my $.02 worth1 point

Personally, I no longer feel comfortable in Asheville. I’ve found the people are as rude as any around. Mostly younger know it alls that don’t like older folks and ideas. COVID pretty much ruined that city. Boone is a much friendlier town and the home of Mast General Store. Plenty of things to see and do in the East Tennessee/Western North Carolina, especially if you love to camp and hike.1 point

Take it easy and heal up. That takes longer for us ‘mature’ folks now. I have a hard time not trying to do what I used to be able to do. For a while I used to say I can still do all the stuff I used to do, it just hurts more now. Now I’m recognizing that I just can’t do it anymore.1 point
