I got an e-mail from TFA today which named legislators who have made public statements in regard to Red Flag. Much to my surprise and dismay I saw where my State Representative John Gillespie, District 97 has publicly come out in favor of Red Flag. He is a Republican, but also apparently a dumbass. To be honest, I wasn't exactly tactful when writing to him. I was quite blunt. Even insulting. But he deserved it. I sent him an e-mail expressing my displeasure in this. Again, to my surprise, responded quickly. But his response was just a bunch of links to articles in the Daily Memphian newspaper. a know liberal rag. which seem to center on keeping guns out of the hands of the wrong people. I couldn't really tell because all I got was a quick glimpse of the headline and then a paywall popped up. He even took credit for writing an op-ed on the subject. Anyway what followed were 3 more e-mails between us with pretty much the same results. I kept trying to make the point that Red Flag is unconstitutional. Guilty until proven innocent. I pressed this point several times. But he kept ignoring that point and pressing keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. To which I replied: " "I also don't want the mentally ill to have firearms. But to do so at the cost of Constitutional rights is just plain wrong and illegal. You can not infringe upon a person's rights because of what they might do. That's exactly what Red Flag does. If a person is legally declared mentally ill, go ahead, take their guns. But until then, they have constitutionally protected rights. Plus the potential for abuse and misuse of such a law are staggering." At one point he did ask me: ". You live in Shelby County. Are you not sick of the violence????". To which I responded: "Of course I'm sick of the violence. That why I chose not to be a victim. I have had a handgun permit since 1992. Even before the state issued them. I rarely leave my house unarmed. The criminal justice system has failed miserably in Shelby County. And you're part of the problem. But all of this is moot. Red Flag is simply UNCONSTITUTIONAL. GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT. You refuse to see that." It was like talking to a wall. He kept side stepping and not once did he even acknowledge the constitutional issues at stake here. That is a look into the mind of an anti-2A politician. State Representative John Gillespie. If you live in District 97, remember this come election time. This idiot needs to go.9 points

I propose we remove the mentally ill from public rather than removing guns. How did a Republican get elected in Shelby county?3 points

Here's what pisses me off. I voted for this idiot. He's a republican and was supposedly pro 2A. I told him flat out that I won't vote for him again and I'll tell everybody I know not to vote for him. I hope his political career is dead.3 points

Personally, I no longer feel comfortable in Asheville. I’ve found the people are as rude as any around. Mostly younger know it alls that don’t like older folks and ideas. COVID pretty much ruined that city. Boone is a much friendlier town and the home of Mast General Store. Plenty of things to see and do in the East Tennessee/Western North Carolina, especially if you love to camp and hike.2 points

Yummy! I won't say it's certain, but there's very good chance I had some possum stew when I was a voung brat. Grew up with grandparents who were a little step above the Clampets. Not very much though. It's really amazing to think onthese things and realize we are but one, maybe 2, generations away from farming/hunting to survive society. Be very thankful for it!2 points

Gillespie would not reocgnize the Constitution if it ran over him in the hall on the way to the bathroom. Mark White is no better. Rose and Taylor are virulntly anti 2ndAmendment as well. They say one thing, do another.1 point

Good luck with the Gallbladders stones and surgery. My son-in-law Tommy went through that surgery last Sunday and he is only 52 and he has been laid up in a recliner since he got back home on Monday. He is off work for 4 weeks and then goes back to light duty for 4 more weeks.1 point

Once you get outside the Memphis city limits, the rest of Shelby county is very conservative. District 97 covers Bartlett and other areas outside of Memphis. The problem is that Memphis by itself has the rest of us badly out numbered.1 point

Oh they've more than doubled. I remember pre-Covid seeing these things for as low as $1200, maybe close to $2k for mint condition. But I just can't justify it at the moment, as much as I'd like to.1 point

I reshaped the trigger a bit. Just ran 350 rounds of bulk hand loads. About 90% of the issue is gone. Before I couldn't get 1 mag through the gun before I gave up. Most of the 350 were rapid fire. I'll probably do a bit more reshaping and polishing then call it a day. I'm finally getting to the point where I'd trust my life with the gun.1 point

It is. The trigger is longer than the original and at a slightly different angle. It slightly pitches my finger on the rest. After 30 rounds it becomes very distracting. I let them know about it. They said I was the only one that has this problem. Part of it issue is the way the gun is designed places your finger at the bottom of the trigger.1 point

Ain't nobody cheap. Those days are long gone. I use Arms Fair Gun Transfer Portal in Cordova. This a separate operation from their regular gun shop. Different space in the same building. All they do is transfers. Prices are decent for this area and they make it quick and simple. Nice folks too. https://www.armsfair.com/gun-transfer1 point

We keep lights on inside every night. Have multiple night light hallway lighting directed on the floor and lights on in the kitchen at night. I know someone can turn lights off, and that is why the flashlights. I don't use a light on my bedside gun, or any handgun. I keep a good flashlight and a bigger spotlight, with fresh batteries in both. My wife has a flashlight on her side also. This ties up the offhand, but I have accepted the drawback of that situation. The flash light system suites me. I did have thought of purchasing a light for my Mossberg shotgun, but never have as of yet. We had a prowler a few years ago. Followed my daughter home, late at night, and was peeping in the front door glass. She worked as a car hop at Sonic and the dude followed her when she left. He was watching her, so I installed several lights and really lit up the outside of our home well. Also installed an audible driveway alarm. Light is a real deterrent, most times. Edited to add; I don't like the idea of pointing a loaded gun at someone in the night. I know some say one can point it at the floor and use ambient light to identify, but I can point a flashlight also.1 point
