When I got my first email on AOL, I tried and tried to find something unique but everything was already used. I finally put my initials and last name in backwards (A)nthony (B)riggs Evans and came up with snaveba.8 points

The Rock Band RUSH is one of my favorites, and they have a song called The Analog Kid. I'm an IT Engineer, working with computers every day. On that same album is a song named Digital Man, and you would think with my profession I would identify more with that song. However, even tho I work on Nerdy stuff, I'm definitely not a Nerd. I don't like video games, and once work is done, I turn of the tech. I'm into outdoor stuff, and am more happy when there is no electricity nearby. So, Analog Kid fits better8 points

I spent two fantastic weeks in the Bahamas living on a 35’ boat with friends and then sailed it over to Hilton Head. The boat’s name was Garufa and the crossing was an adventure.8 points

Same for me, but not AOL. I wanted a Star Wars handle back in the early days of the Interwebz, but of course all the common characters were taken and I didn't want to be BobaFett3728 or Vader7561. I landed on monkeylizard as the first obscure SW thing I could find that wasn't already taken. It's what Jabba the Hutt's pet thing is.7 points

My hair went gray in my mid 30s. Its a family trait. When my son's were young, I spent 12 years as a Boy Scout Leader. During that time I took an advanced Scoutmaster training course called Wood Badge where I was assigned to the Fox Patrol. It took my fellow scouters all of about 30 seconds to dub me "The Gray Fox". The nickname just sorta stuck.7 points

I'm fond of Bersa pistols and own several different models. My old shooting partner that passed away a few years back said one day that I was Bersa guy while we were at the range and it stuck and all I did was remove the space and it became Bersaguy !5 points

I've been a collector of memorabilia on General George S. Patton, Jr. He was a great general and a flawed genius. Lucky Forward was always the code name for his command post closest to battle.5 points

I like Chuck Taylors. Don’t wear them much anymore because old man feet don’t like shoes with zero support, but I got one pair I still break out occasionally. When I first joined I actually used Chuck Taylor, but then I discovered there was a fairly well known firearms trainer by that name so I changed it.5 points

My younger sister called me Fred Sanford because I was always trading something, guns, boats, cars, etc. She took Fred and spelled it backwards to call me Derf instead. She has called me this for 30+ years now.4 points

During my law enforcement career I spent many years on the tactical team as entry team lead, primary counter sniper, Field Commander and the last 5 years as Team Commander. Along the way I was tagged by others as Tacops. I am old now and the name doesn't truly fit. I have thought of developing a new more appropriate handle but not sure how to do it so that folks know it is me and not just another newbie to the board.4 points

It can be hard to cope with the fact that the only reason you made it out that day when 8 others didn’t was a few feet or a few minutes or just luck. In my case, it was several years before the trauma caught up with me - despite doing some work at the time the event happened. It wasn’t until my kids were old enough to see a commemoration on the news and ask questions that it really floored me. Something we know today is that trauma is cumulative. An event like that naturally messes you up. Anyway, pay attention to yourself. There are people who’ll listen and help.3 points

This is one of the few days a week I get to be home and hold my kids. I take all the advantage of it I can. I don’t know what prompted this post, but I’m praying for you in this moment. When and if you need or wish to speak, there are resources here for you.3 points

The entire issue is that we are a humane society and can't deal with the fact of women and Children and some older adults being abused. Turning them away just is not who we are deep down inside. That is just a fact and the countries these people are running from know it. We began a Green Card Program for migrant farm workers because Our larger farmers that provide us with farm products could not get enough American workers willing to work for the low wages. The problem began when Green Cards were expiring, instead of the workers going back home they just got lost and stayed here. They found jobs that paid more and just stayed because most employers didn't do background checks back years ago. Now this is what the simple Green Card program has become.....JMHO3 points

The real stuff is called “Americana” these days and there is plenty of it…and it’s good. Check out what WEVL’s schedule is in Memphis (FM 89.9), they have programming at certain times for that stuff, or if you really want to get down find WDVX online. That’s an independent East TN radio station that really delivers.2 points

I grew up on Country Music and loved it. But then I was listening to the likes of Johnny, Merle, George and Tammy and such. But I gave up on it somewhere around the turn of the century. What they call Country these days sounds more like bad 80s pop to me. It seems that somewhere along the way Country Music lost its soul. So I really don't care what the CMA or its members do. These ain't my people anymore. As for being woke? I'm gettin' old and I'm set in my ways. I ain't woke and never will be. If you don't like it, tuff.2 points

I was referencing this very book in my post when I mentioned the body keeping score. From my non-professional perspective it’s an amazing resource for learning how to recognize and process trauma responses that we don’t even know are trauma related. I recommend it to all of y’all.2 points

well it's that or Daryl Dixon... personally, I would align more with the Newhart crew. They were better actors.2 points

Fast - Mac and Chuck, as usual, are insightful. Trauma is cumulative and as one of the best books on trauma is entitled "The Body Keeps the Score" - Bessel van der Kolk. As you stated in you original post, you are still processing that terrible moment. I am so thankful for you and your children. At the same time, I am certain that every time you review that moment in your mind, you experience both an emotional and physical response. That's the trauma you still carry from that moment. Here is a useful review of how one is affected: https://mytime.telemynd.com/telemyndblog/the-science-behind-ptsd-how-trauma-changes-the-brain-r16/?gad=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwx_eiBhBGEiwA15gLN2X2tU38E1eIg8NfvhAgpk0ujGuwAOQmEdl76brpYywoMKMRpcpB_BoCnasQAvD_BwE Helpful options to get a handle on trauma: If you do not know a therapist, talk with your PCP about this experience and ask for a referral to a mental health provider that they recommend Check with your company's HR department - some companies offer Employee Assistance Programs which will provide, at no cost to you, a number of therapy sessions http://www.ptsdalliance.org/help/ - lots of resources here If you are a veteran: https://www.va.gov/health-care/health-needs-conditions/mental-health/ptsd/ Mental Health America provides a very useful online assessment tool: https://screening.mhanational.org/screening-tools/ptsd/ I am thankful that you and your children were safe from this experience physically. Emotionally, it won't hurt a thing to double-check your thoughts and feelings from that difficult day.2 points

To second what Macgyver said, don’t be so quick to dismiss the idea that you might benefit from at the very least a visit or two with a therapist to debrief. Trauma isn’t a competition and just because someone else was more directly or horrifically affected doesn’t mean that you aren’t allowed to experience or process it in your own way. Even if only as a prophylactic measure, I’d seek out some professional outlet as you’d be surprised how your body might keep score in ways that your brain will dismiss or suppress. I suspect @Luckyforwardmight concur on that point.2 points

So back to discussing politics? Great! This is a deliberate act by POTUS (handlers) and Co to destroy the US economy. They may hope to get voters, but they don't need them with all the mail in voters they can produce out of thin air costing less than what it would cost to house even a percent of the illegals in just one city.2 points

In college, the guys liked to watch the same movies over and over.....and over. One of the movies in rotation was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I walked into the house one day after class while it was on and Shortround was on the screen. Somebody turned around and said something to the effect of "look you're on tv" and they all got a laugh. Being college guys, the name stuck.2 points

It's been widely reported that Hispanic voters are turning more and more conservative. Many of them don't agree with liberal views. I'm not picking on you Grayfox but this seems to be a widely held misconception. A lot of these people are hard working, family oriented and religious. During the last election a record amount cast their vote for Trump. Even NPR reported on this trend.2 points

The Democrats want the illegals here. They want open borders and to fast track the road to citizenship. The reason is simple. The vast majority of these people vote Democrat. I have no problem with legal immigration or work visas. The problem is that there are thousands of illegals crossing our borders daily without any papers at all, They're scattering all over the country to take advantage of government programs that they don't pay one cent for. Migrant workers may be a necessary evil in regard to farming and food processing. But what about the thousands of them in New York, Chicago or even Memphis and other large cities? There ain't a whole lot of farm work there.2 points
