  1. So while I’m waiting on my new FN stainless hi power to finally arrive from the land of “back-order”, I picked up a cheap toy to amuse myself and study. I am reminded of someone I once knew whose entire gun collection was based solely on initial price point but in this case the gamble really paid off! I stood amazed as I examined and shot this for the first time in between sighting in my “higher dollar acquisitions” of the last few weeks. The all stainless steel SAR 2000 is a Turkish clone of the CZ 75 with a few influences from Tanfoglio. In addition, (and I’m watching for the lightning strikes here) I feel it really channels JMB’s hi power. There I said it. Beyond this, I can’t ****ing believe how well it fits the hand. It’s a thick grip with tactile soft rubber panels and an unbelievable backbone that arches into the palm of my medium sized hands like the perfect spoon. Being all stainless the 9mm recoil is laughable and I was expecting to fell more of the weight but with that incredible hand fitment, it just feels more like a natural hand extension. I also was expecting to see some signs of a break-in period but even with varying steel cased and very questionable loose rounds from my non-insulated storage areas- it just won’t FTF or demonstrate less than perfect operation. Did I mention that I bought this NIB from locked&loaded for $379 tax free? Sometimes—just sometimes backorders aren’t so bad. Sights are fantastic btw & CZ75B mags fit which boost you from 17 round to 19 round if you get the competition editions. It runs like a race gun so why not?

  3. Definitely a sick SOB. And they are definitely walking among us. Don't fool yourself. As TGO David said, get prepared. I think the worst is still yet to come. We have allowed a powder keg to build, and the odds are not in favor of a peaceful undoing.

  4. Things we can all be doing in the wake of these events: 1. Calling, emailing, writing our lawmakers to encourage them to hold the line in the face of mounting pressure to punish good people and reduce their abilities to defend themselves, while doing absolutely nothing to stop bad people from committing evil acts. 2. Getting civilian medical training. Stop The Bleed and PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) training classes are out there and some of them are free or low-cost. You're statistically more likely to use a tourniquet in your life than you are to need to use a gun. 3. Getting defensive handgun training. The "training" that you are required to receive in order to get an enhanced carry permit in the state of Tennessee is utterly worthless. We are immensely fortunate in Tennessee to have so many well heeled training providers within a half-day drive of us. Go beyond the basics and become very proficient with your handgun. 4. Adapt your EDC to the sort of things that are becoming more common in our society. Learn how to use a tourniquet and carry one with you everywhere. Invest in a small individual first aid kit (IFAK) that goes beyond bandaids and ointments, and carry it with you everywhere. Pick a gun that you can actually make a critical shot with under duress, train to do that, and then carry it with you everywhere. 5. Get your ass in shape. Run, hide, fight starts with running. Can you? No? Get your ass in shape. Get involved in self-defensive combatives like Jiu Jitsu or Krav Maga. Getting in shape while you beat the #### out of people and people beat the #### out of you is way better than walking on a treadmill at the YMCA like some sort of human hampster. 6. Commit to keeping your attention OUT of your cellphone when you're in public places. You can't run, hide, or fight if you're dead because you were popped in the dome while surfing Facebook on your phone, oblivious to the transexual ANTIFA soy-boy coming up alongside you, dressed like a mall-ninja, aiming a Kel-Tec at your melon. BECOME AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS!

  5. Unless I missed it, I didn't see any comments about the bathrooms. The cleanest public restrooms you'll ever run across and probably cleaner than some home bathrooms. The number of urinals and stalls almost rivals the gas pumps.

  6. I still blame this on our Military. If they thought he was to crazy to be in the military he was to crazy to be turned loose on the general population also as well. They should have placed him in a facility for evaluation but instead they just turn him lose......

  8. The one coming to the Sevierville exit is a curse for the entire east tn area. I passed them in Texas 10+ years ago with little desire to stop. The gas pump island that seems to never end is an impressive sight though. And being a fan of brisket I researched deep enough to find out it's more like gas station sushi and less like Tx roadside smoked meat lol. And then there is the bucees nuggets that get mentioned a lot. I guess it's worth a visit if for nothing more than saying you been. I've passed the Crossville location numerous times and never stopped. Usually I stop across the road at the Pilot for my coffee and to top the tank. If and when you do go @Luckyforwardbe sure to get your pic taken with Bucee and post it here

  10. 2008 was a time when the Army was so hard up for able bodies, every unit deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan had a stop loss order to prevent people from ETS'ing during the deployment (yours truly included), and the words "moral waiver" entered our lexicon to help us understand the malcontents who a few years ago wouldn't have qualified arriving to the unit. I shutter to think about how loud the klaxons were sounding to make the Army kick this guy out in the middle of all that. Especially if he was in a line unit.

And, for anyone who cares to look - it's not like his politics were particularly hard to figure out: Here's the gear he was killed in - note the Right Wing Death Squad patch in the middle: And, if there's any question as to why we usually don't post manifestos - here's a sample of his that references the Covenant shooting here in Nashville: I'm not going to post the links to his page - because frankly I'm not the least bit interested in sending traffic to sites like that - but that and his YouTube are available to anyone who really wants to find it.

  13. Maybe this is my age showing, but what's up with people typing "100$" with the dollar sign at the end? This has gotten pretty rampant over the last year or so. Maybe it's when they're being conversational and trying to say it like "100 dollars" (which should still be $100. I can't be the only person that finds this annoying, right?

You should see the look on their face when I try to explain the differences in a list of words like: bot, bought, bough, bow, beau or try to explain the rules for carry/carried/carries vs play/played/plays.

  20. In addition to the 2 Valkyries, I have a Yamaha Zuma 125. It's a lot of fun to ride. I can jump on it and go to the corner store and back before one of the Valkyries even gets fully warmed up. Saves a lot of wear on the big bikes. BTW, my hunt for an 80's UJM is over, as I sealed the deal today on this 1983 Suzuki GS 850L. It has about 16k miles on it and meets 3 of my 4 preferred criteria. (disk brakes, yes, shaft drive, yes, cast wheels, yes and water cooled, no) Water cooled would be less negotiable if this was a daily commuter or if I was still in Texas. Once I go through it, I can unload one of the Valkyries. Until then my garage space is NIL. #firstworldproblems Jay

  21. There is the first issue. He was removed from the Army for being nuts and it was not recorded anyplace on public records that would have prevented him from buying the guns. Anyone that is removed from Military Service for mental issues should be put on public records so a background check would show if he lied on his application......JMHO

  31. The wife and I stopped at the one in Crossville a week or so ago for S&G (me), and I filled up the truck. I saw a sticker/notice on the pump that indicated there were over 200 gas pumps at this location but I did not bother to count them for accuracy. Wife went in to use the bathroom and came right back out. I went to the bathroom after I gassed up, and had the immediate thought of a gas station with a mini-walmart attached to it. It was crowded inside the store and outside at the pumps. I did walk thru the store to get a sense of it all, and I also knew that the truck was parked at the end of the store, so went into the store from the other end just to get some exercise. I've thought that the new one being built in Sevierville will just make exit 407 worse than it already is, with the backward lane crossovers, etc. Sevier Co Sherriff's Dept will need a FT person there for traffic control and accident reporting.

  32. I'm to old for the purity culture movement - but I had that same reaction. His story is interesting because he was literally at a far end of a spectrum (although one that seemed completely normal to a lot of well meaning folks at the time) and when his belief system came apart he had nothing left to hang onto. He lost his marriage, his faith, all of it. It's heartbreaking. I hope that whatever his next act looks like - he surrounds himself with some voices that can speak truth. Somewhere in those first series of episode, someone said of Driscoll that his "charisma outpaced his character" and allowed him to find success before he was ready to handle it. That really resonated with me.

  37. As Luckyforward has already suggested, there's a vast difference between being "thought to be mentally ill in any fashion" and being "adjudicated" to have mental problems. I don't think any of us expect mental health workers to guarantee that someone will be free of any kind of disorders, but I do believe that someone who has been adjudicated mentally incompetent or committed to a mental institution should have a thorough mental evaluation before being allowed to purchase a firearm, even if such an evaluation is expensive and time-consuming.

  38. I binged the first 5 episodes today on the drive up to Chicago today. Man this is an extremely well done and engaging listen. Having been in a plant (not Acts 29 affiliated) at the peak of the Mark Driscoll/Mars Hill phenomenon in the mid-00s/early 10s I remember it being a very big thing. My pastor at the time was fairly critical of Driscoll’s personal style but was friendly with the pastors of the Acts 29 plants in the area. I myself admired what it appeared was going on with Mars Hill from the outside. The rock star vibe was very real and very attractive to a newer Christian like myself at the time. All that to say, I’ve got a measure of personal attachment to the subject matter and have gotten sucked in immediately.

  40. Your point is well taken. It begs the question of the creation of a registry that would have prevented the purchase of firearms. It would need to be able to link to a Form 4473. The question on the 4473 regarding mental health issues is nebulous: "Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?" There is a wide, wide latitude between being found mentally incompetent on one end of the spectrum or having been committed to a mental institution. In the middle of that continuum is severe depression, personality disorders, paranoia, and schizophrenia. The difficulty with each is that a person may present normal in one moment, and a half-hour later reveal troubling symptoms.

  41. I have a good friend that I rarely talk to any more because he is “ate plum up” with the Q stuff. Can’t have a normal conversation about anything without him suddenly steering it to that stuff. It’s some outlandish crap he’s gotten into. “Trump is still in command and after they let the people learn their lesson he’ll come galloping back in on a white wildebeest” or whatever. What I do know is that there are plenty of people on both (or all?) sides who will greedily lick up whatever information or theories they are spoon fed. They say the truth is somewhere in the middle. At this point I’m starting to think it’s buried under a giant tadpole in a crater lake somewhere. Lord have mercy!

  42. I can respect that also as an option but it would be hard to think about a shooter killing children at random and maybe the mother because the husband is not there to defend them. Most of the time the mother is killed while trying to shield the child but it is also killed. I would have the advantage because I would know where the shooter is and he would not be expecting an armed good guy coming for him.....JMHO

  43. I worry it’s not gonna stop. The only thing between peace and anarchy is the moral compass of the citizens. Anyone at any time can perpetrate a massacre like this. Be it with a gun, a knife, a car, a bomb or a plane, it is just “will I or won’t I” decide to kill a bunch of people before I die. We are a nation living in a fear of our own making.

  44. Unfortunately - assuming you’re within city limits in any metro area in Tennessee - everything you want to do and all your proposed methods for doing it are quite illegal. While a pellet gun *might* be looked on with less disdain than an actual firearm - your concern about the road beyond your target means that you’d almost certainly be breaking a fundamental rule of firearms, “know your target and what’s beyond it.” Starlings are a pain - but you wouldn’t be able to kill enough of them to make a difference - and in your case would almost certainly open yourself up to the judgement of your neighbors and the complex management. The Aguila SSS is probably the quietest option mentioned - but it still sounds like a gunshot. A modern pellet rifle propelling a projectile over 1040FPS isn’t quiet either. You need another deterrent.
