  1. Over the last six months my wonderful wife has had a series of serious sinus infections. The myriad of drugs she has been on affected her as badly as the infections. Over time she also noticed that when the infection started her two back teeth on the top left also would ache. Our PCP sent her to Vanderbilt and an excellent ENT found in a CT scan that something was going on with the teeth. He referred her to an excellent oral surgeon who found there was a serious infection in the gum. The infection in the gums was being broadcast to the sinuses. A massive double infection; one affected the other. Surgery was called for. She had to go through two hours of surgery with the ENT to "clean out" the sinuses. When he finished the oral surgeon then went in for two hours to remove the teeth and repair the gums. Surgery was successful and both surgeons found massive pools of infection in the upper sinus and in the gums. If the infection made it to the brain I would have lost my wife. A week past surgery my wife is doing great and post surgical visits with both surgeons show the infection is gone and she is healing well. (Just getting used to chewing without two less teeth.) This has been a scary period for me and for her. I wanted to give thanks to God, extremely caring and COMPETENT doctors, and to my wife for fighting through a difficult time (except through suffering from my cooking!). Just felt the need to share what she has been through, the fear I felt after realizing how bad the infections were, and my gratefulness that she is sitting across from me reading a funny book and laughing because she is feeling better. I invite you to share my thankfulness and my joy. Thank you for reading.

  3. This year I decided to jump on the bandwagon with the smaller bore hunters and picked up a Stevens 301 Turkey in 410 a month ago. I've always been a 12 gauge hunter but after doing some researching on the little 410 and TSS I had to have one. Plus I loved the looks of the Bottomland Thumbhole Model. I did some testing with the factory supplied choke and a Patternmaster Code Black Turkey. I tried two different types of the TSS which was the Federal #9's and the Salt Creek Customs #10. Both loads performed good out to 40 yards but the Salt Creek would put 130 shots in the 10 at 40 where the Federal did 94. The Patternmaster patterned the Federal better than the Factory Choke but was the complete opposite with the Salt Creek #10's. So the setup I decided to hunt with was the Factory Choke paired with the Salt Creek #10. Wednesday morning I got a chance to test the little 410 out on a nice thick roped East TN public land bird at 45 yards. Was a tad farther than I like shooting but had patterned the gun out to 40 and knew it was capable of ethically taking one at that distance. After lugging this little 410 around these past few days I don't think I'll ever break out the pumps again. Super light setup that shoulders nice and will flat do the job shooting TSS.

  10. Please go easy on me if this is in the wrong section but “deals & steals” looked woefully out of date on posts. So I was in Knoxville Tactical picking up received goods today and saw a pallet of these! NATO overrun $3.99 !!! This has always been a favorite overall design and it is nicely updated to LED & high impact polymer. As a kid I would always scratch up the nice painted olive drab finish something terrible. Well that too is no longer a problem. Just wanted to share in case anyone else loves these like I do.

  17. Why'd y'all have to bring this back up? Now ya got me wondering. There was a place like what is described in Wolfchase mall when it first opened years ago. It was an upscale place as I remember. Kinda expensive for the likes of me. But I distinctly remember it being kinda dark, rustic decor and those flickering bulbs. DAMMIT! I can't remember the name.

  20. I have the Perun 2 mini and it's a good headlamp. The full sized Perun 2 is a bit large for a headlamp, IMHO. It's almost as big as that Warrior 3.

  24. My youngest (12) was a smart arse to mom yesterday, so she banned him from screens today. When I got home from work, he was quick to trumpet all the useful things he'd accomplished with his time. Seemed like there was a bit of recognition here. Small victories.

  30. The Streamlight Pro-Tac 2LX ($60) and Pro-Tac HL-X ($95) have both worked really well for me. They aren't as rugged as the Cloud Defensive stuff, and they don't put out the same candela or lumens as the Cloud Defensive stuff, but they have held up to a lot of casual carry and use.

  34. I wouldn't know anything about that but have I ever told you guys about the time that I was flying with Brian Williams in a helicopter over in Iraq? I think the year was 2003, we were taking enemy fire and forced to land. Brian and I barely made it out alive....
