So true, brother. You also never know when a kind word or gesture might be all someone needs to get thru another day.4 points

Last night I sent a text to a former coworker. We're not close, but I like to check in with people now and then. A few minutes later I got a text from another number asking who I was. My initial thought was, maybe they've changed phone numbers or someone else found their phone. Sadly, this wasn't the case. The person texting me back was my coworkers wife, letting me know that he had committed suicide two weeks prior. There's a sorted history there that I won't get into, but what I will say is that it was completely unexpected. We're talking about a guy that I thought was a rock. I would describe him as a "manly man". Married, two kids, always into the dad jokes but took his work and life very seriously. A big 2a advocate, red blooded American type. Folks, this just goes to show that you never know what's going on in someones life. You don't know someone else's story, or what they've been through. Some people hide it better than others. For me, it tells me that I need to learn to have a bit more grace and make sure I check in more often with the people I care about (God being first and foremost). Make sure that you take the time to be with family and friends. Life is too short and fellowship is where it's at. No amount of "stuff" will ever fill the void. And if you are struggling, please seek help. There are 1001 reasons why you matter. I had the unfortunate task of informing all of his old coworkers (which i did gladly because I wasn't going to put that back on his wife) and it amazed me that people I thought only knew him in passing were gutted to find out what happened. A few of them even started talking to me about their own struggles with depression. Suicide isn't the answer.3 points

Yes! This quote needs to be a billboard. I’ve often wondered how many times it’s happened where someone was right there on that edge and an unkind word or gesture from someone was the last human interaction they ever had on this earth. We all need to take the time to pay attention.3 points

Any of y’all can call me. Anytime. I’ve lost too many people that I care deeply about. Some here. Way too soon. There are a whole lot of reasons for that - and there aren’t any easy answers. It sucks. But the heart of the matter is if you need someone to listen, or someone to yell at, or someone to cry with - I’ll be there. Anytime.2 points

Not sure about it being Cooper, but that pistol makes me think High Standard, or possibly Colt Woodsman.2 points

I won't belittle Grand Torino's knives by calling them a "deal." They are quality pieces that GT offers to us at a fair price. I believe I remember his stating once these were origionally just a hobby. But as I see it, it has progressed beyond that to a retired man's new job. His work and quality exceed the pricing he gives us all. As the owner of a dozen, I can say this for certain. I can't speak from a knowledgeable knife collectors viewpoint...just as a person who appreciates the works of this good man.2 points

“…..should always carry.” nope. Some shouldn’t even own a gun, much less carry it. Everyone should be interested in their own protection and take some precautions and have some level of training with their preferred method. But I’ll never tell someone that they don’t do enough because they don’t carry.2 points

I thought I'd show off some work that I had done to a spare grip module for my Staccato C2. A gentleman named Zach, who posts as "Grip-It-Customs_" on Instagram (do note the trailing underscore in his name) did this for me last week and I couldn't be happier. Not only is the texture that he laid down perfect for EDC use, but a byproduct of removing the factory grip texture is that the overall circumference of the grip is slightly reduced. Since I'm a size-medium glove wearer, this translates into making the gun really fit my hand better than it already did. And for comparison, this is an old photo of what the gun comes with from the factory... I really couldn't be happier. And since the grip modules on these, while not exactly inexpensive, are replaceable it's not like I have permanently altered the gun in any way. Anyway, I feel like this is an example of plastic surgery gone RIGHT. Lord knows we've seen some stipple jobs on TGO that, no offense meant to the owners of those guns, looked like someone's dog had chewed on them for a few hours.1 point

If I ever did need some help, I’d have no idea where to go or who to trust. I damn sure wouldn’t call some .gov funded hotline, or whatever the place is affiliated with our current health insurance. I doubt I’m the only one who feels that way. Not very trusting at all. I wish I had a solution for how to make mental health services more attractive options for those who need them.1 point

By the way, there has long been a rumor that if you call a lifeline, they "trace your call and come get you." This is not true. All calls to hotlines are completely confidential. Below is some supplemental information. What Happens When You Contact 988 About Suicide? Beginning July 16, 2022, you can call or text 988 to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. It's a new way to reach free, live support if you or someone you know has thoughts of suicide, a mental health or substance use crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress. The Lifeline has been around since 2005 at (800) 273-8255 (TALK), and you will still be able to reach it 24/7 at that number. This new three-digit calling code will just make it easier to remember and dial. When You Call 988 If you call 988, you’ll first hear a greeting message that will give you options to connect to the Veterans Crisis Line, access help in Spanish, or remain on the line while your call is routed to your local Lifeline network crisis center. This is based on your area code. If your local crisis center is unable to answer, your call will go to another Lifeline center. Around 200 independent, locally owned and operated crisis centers work in the Lifeline network, and there are plans to expand and improve the network with the launch of 988. Once your call is routed, a trained counselor will answer the phone. They will listen, provide support, and share resources if needed. Their main goal is to support you in your moment of distress. If they feel you are in danger, the counselor may discuss connecting you to local emergency services like 911, but first they will do everything they can to help you with a less invasive plan to keep you safe. Fewer than 2% of Lifeline calls involve local emergency services and more than half of those are with the caller’s consent. When You Online Chat or Text 988 If you prefer to chat with a counselor on a computer, go to suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat. The Lifeline has provided online chat services since 2013 and these will continue after the launch of 988. Before you begin the chat, you’ll be asked to fill out a quick survey to share a little bit about yourself, your main struggle and how you’re feeling. This will help your counselor best support you from the start of your conversation. You’ll see a message while you wait for a crisis counselor to join your chat. A counselor will answer your chat as soon as one is available. They will ask you questions about your safety, feelings, social situation, and if you have any thoughts of suicide. If needed, the chat counselor will work with you to create a safety plan or contact local emergency services. If there is a long wait to chat with someone, you’ll get a message to let you know. While you wait, you can check out online resources from the Lifeline, which are linked on the chat webpage, or call 988 to speak with someone right away. The chat’s busiest times are between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. EST. Starting July 16, you can also text 988 from your cell phone. A counselor from a Lifeline crisis center will respond. They may or may not be local. In the next few years texting service will grow to include more local crisis centers. No matter how you access 988, the goal is to help ease your stress and give you tools to make healthy choices. Not Only for Suicide Prevention 988 isn’t just for suicide concerns. It’s also a resource for anyone who is going through a crisis related to substance use or mental health, and anyone worried about a loved one who may need support. “Anyone who is depressed, going through a hard time, needs to talk, or is thinking about suicide” can contact 988, according to the Lifeline’s website. The website states that counselors “are here to listen and support you through whatever difficult times you may be facing.” Free and Confidential Any time you reach out to 988, your calls, texts and chats will be confidential. This means that your information will not be shared without your consent, unless your or someone else’s safety is in immediate danger. Your chats with 988 are secured with the same data protection standards that major financial institutions use. Anything you type to a counselor is encrypted from your computer to theirs. You do not need to provide any personal information in order to use 988. Anytime someone asks you for personal data it will only be used to connect you to ongoing support or to help Lifeline improve its services. Your information will never be sold. The U.S. government funds 988 and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, making it free for anyone to use. Your phone company may charge you standard rates for texts and calls.1 point

I am sincerely very sorry for your loss. I am a licensed psychotherapist in Tennessee and echo your thoughts. We can all check on our friends and there are resources out there to remind folks that they can reach out. If they won't talk with family or friends, encourage friends to reach out to a lifeline.1 point

Switch that mayo out for avocado on the BLT (BLAT) and it is a game changer. Potato Salad is now done with sour cream, ranch seasoning mix, bacon, and some green onion. I can no longer abide traditional mayo based tater salads. Don't eat canned tuna so Chicken salad is the only spot left for mayo in my life. I think the last jar in the house lasted 6+ months and it has not been replaced yet. In short for Mayo.1 point

I thought the same thing, but if you put it in your cart and apply the code to see the price drop to $8.49.1 point

Fort Loudon is pretty cool if you like history. https://fortloudoun.com/ Just 4 minutes past that is the Sequoyah Birthplace museum which I have not been to yet. Close to the Cherohala Skyway and The Dragon. That entire part of the state is scenic. That's typically where we go camping.1 point

I think that part of the problem is that our judicial system is WAY too easy on people who break gun laws. If the penalties for illegal use of a firearm were enforced to the full extent of the law I think there would be less of this kind of thing. Right now one can get away with lying on a 4470 (Hunter Biden springs to mind!), and criminals get away with very minor punishments. Perhaps if being caught with an illegal firearm landed the criminal in jail for a significant amount of time there would be fewer people engaging in illegal carry. (I'm thinking of those who are prohibited from possessing a firearm, either under-age or those with criminal records.) The penalty for having a firearm during the commission of a crime should require serious time in prison, and for actually using one in a criminal manner should send the criminal away for many years. Maybe the Alabama BD party shooter will fall into none of the categories I just mentioned, but I'm for taking drastic measures against CRIMINALS (not law-abiding gun owners) when they use a gun wrongly.1 point

Well, what does the race of the shooter or victims really matter. Being a town in southern Alabama, the racial makeup of the town is probably close to 50/50 white/black.1 point

I believe that the main issue is there are far to many broken homes with just 1 parent trying to do both jobs or children born out of wedlock. The parent is to busy trying to work and put food on the table and a roof over their heads so discipline is almost non existent. Also to many FEAD BEAT DADS not doing their part also IMO!!1 point

Violence be gets violence, does not matter "how" it started, there are ways to handle what ever it is. Sticks and stones break bones and words will not. All to often words will start a fight that in these day and times someone will get killed over "words" I fall back on a MOM and DAD stand a better chance of raising a good person.1 point

For what it's worth... I've owned, and still have several Boker Kalishnakov knives. I find them to be very good knives, especially for me. I don't carry/need 200$ plus knives to pocket carry. My 35 buck Boker satisifies me. I have 2 autos and find myself playing with them frequently. Blade snaps and locks in a most satisfactory manner. I've stayed away from the colored blades. Just not my taste, but to each his own. Ok...now you've gotten me wanting to get another one!!1 point

If your willing to come down to 3x prism Primary Arms is killing it in my opinion. ACSS reticle is awesome! They do have a others but a lightweight micro prism 3x etched reticle is my jam. What you need is an opposing magnet stuck to a 9-volt battery on your handgun's slide. This produces a rail-gun, which is not to be confused with a gun with an accessory rail. One will accelerate your 9mm Winchester White Box ammo past the speed of light, causing a black hole to form and sucking your enemy into it. The other allows you to hang an O-Light off of your gun and get pissed each time the absurdly large latch accidentally releases your light as you draw from a holster. These car magnets are just a bad idea. Very bad. For a lot of reasons. It hurts my head to think that I'd have to enumerate them. Just say no to them. I can't believe that I am about to post a James Yeager video, but here we are. I haven't even watched it yet but I know he's going to pop a vein so that I don't have to. I assume that a language warning is probably prudent. Don't watch this with your kids.1 point
