My take on this , is it's not so much about gun control, but just control . Gun control is a tool. Once they have our guns, then they can control us. JMHO4 points

My friend, if you could get a good answer, I'd be surprised. To me, the gist of all the anti arguments boil down to the "I don't like guns. So you can't have any." All sorts of add-ons to that, but that's my take on the whole thing. A bit off-track, maybe, but my wife and I were watching the 6 PM, Channel 5 News as Lee's Red Flag was being discussed. She still doesn't seem to understand why I'm so vehemently opposed to it. Summed it up this way. Liberal, MoM's Demand Action, nerighbor calls and says "My neighbor has a gun. I'm scared. He shouldn't have it." Police come and take gun(s) without any notice. I can't stop it. Why should neighbor be able to do this?4 points

The sentiment that everyone needs to carry is great and all, but the fact is that some people are more likely to harm themselves or others before they use a gun to defend themselves. A certain female in my life no longer carries after her lost gun was found loose in a purse, no holster, loose with several pens rolling around. Said she had too much going on to be concerned about keeping up with a gun. Come to think of it I can't count on both hands the people I know who don't have any business carrying a gun.3 points

I just went and read the questions on the application you have to fill out to purchase a firearm. The questions asked about a persons mental state are for the most part useless. Any 3rd grader could answer those and pass the back ground check. In the last 2 shootings the police said the weapons used were bought legally. That is a lie. Both shooters were proven to have mental issues after the fact and both had been under a doctors care and prescribed medications. The school shooters parents stated they they knew their daughter was suffering from emotional and depression and were concerned that she had purchased a gun. That should have raised a red flag with them to get her help and they didn't. The shooter at the bank had a personality change that was showing up for about 10 days prior that folks that knew him was obvious and he suffered several concussions while playing sports in high school and even though he was showing signs of problems no one stepped up to offer him help. He reached out to a friend in a text and a voice mail but they were not received until it was to late. He had also been seen by a doctor and on medication. Just being prescribed medications doesn't mean the person is going to take them. My point to this long post is RED FLAG laws will not address this issue. Maybe if they are going to address the mental issue about mentally ill people lying on the application they need to create a place where the doctors can put information on people they treat that can be recorded. It could be like a mental hospital file that could be a part of the back ground check.....JMHO2 points

Two things. First, I’m against red flag laws. I’m also not crazy about background checks. Second, and this is a very serious question for my own better understanding. How much more control can “they” get? I ask because, I’ve never felt so free since I retired, and it’s allowed me to really evaluate life. Even in retirement, choices are still limited to a structured system. So, have we ever really experienced true freedom, and how much more control outside of actual slavery can “they” gain over an individual? It seems from the moment we’re born, we’re constantly being guided, groomed, programmed or controlled. Very few of our choices are our own. They feel like our choices, but they’re only limited options provided to us to hopefully, successfully navigate and succeed or fail in structured and rigid society.2 points

I keep telling y'all. Its all about appearances. In politics you don't have to actually do anything as long as you can make it look like you're trying to. The antis know all too well that they ain't got a snowballs chance in Hell of actually passing anything. But by God, they sure look good trying.2 points

I had an Invisible Fence brand once, but it was 15 years ago. At the time, they touted their infinite level of adjustment that could be tailored to each dog. My dog only got shocked twice (once deliberately during training, and once on her own). I tested it myself. It wasn't a shock so much as my entire arm involuntary contracting at once. It didn't hurt like a strong static shock, but it was quite surprising. My dog vocalized like she was being briefly tortured, though. It was good solution for a house we didn't live in for long, but I like the security of a real fence to keep things out. Also, the dog had a pen for when we were away.2 points

ABC, local channel 2 NBC, local channel 4 CBS, local channel 5 If you are watching any of these in hopes of getting good news, I will pray for your soul, for they are part of the problem with our country. The local news just puke the same crap that the big guys put out.2 points

I haven't mentioned cracklin' bread because they are so hard to find now! We used to kill hogs every November and cut up the meat, make sausage, salt and smoke hams, and make cracklins. I miss a good piece of cracklin cornbread, a bowl of pinto beans, a slice of onion, and homemade pear relish.2 points

I may get whipped for saying this, but I think Henry is one of the most over rated brands out there. Everyone I've handled felt cheap to me and was a substitute for something better. That said, I carried a hunting buddy's Henry in 44 mag, and my Marlin 45-70 guide gun out of a hollow at the same time. (He said if I carried his gun, he would drag out the pig we shot, sounded like a deal to me.) The Henry was much lighter than my Marlin.2 points

One of the variations of that argument that makes me nuts is, "I hunt with a [bolt action, muzzle-loader, knife, whatever] and no one needs a more efficient weapon than I choose to use." People STILL want to approach the 2A discussion as if it's about hunting, and a lot of gun owners are willing to accept some restrictions, so long as those restrictions don't include their personal favorite activity. I get why some people would advocate for so-called "red flag" laws, but the lack of due process requirements could lead to the kind of consequences that hipower mentions above.2 points

Something that I have not read in this thread is that no one has mentioned Crackling Bread. That was a staple around our house in the winter after hog killings to make smoke house meat. My job when I was still at home was to render the lard and separate the cracklings while the fats where still hot. My Dad and Grandfather were responsible for the smoke house duties of getting the meat packed in the salt and when it came time I would help them hang the meat and start the smoking process. The women were responsible for the processing of anything that was going to be frozen or canned. I guess for the most part that has become a lost art and not very many farms still do it. I loved Crackling bread anytime. Made a good snack about anytime!!2 points

Today a WTVF/Phil Williams video showed up in my online news feed. Not sure when it aired on channel 5, but I’ll tell you this, I’ll never watch that channel again! I was boiling mad by the end of it. You can look it up online and watch it for yourself, but the focus was twisting the TFA, John Harris, and all 2nd amendment supporters as cold hearted, white nationalist, idiots who don’t care about children and want to make Tennessee more dangerous thinner it already is. Oh and we also want to have a revolution and violently overthrow the Tennessee duly elected government too. What an a**.1 point

Definitely Walgreens will be sued and the shooter may face jail and lawsuits. For sure the shooter won’t likely work for Walgreens again. Employees in retail are not the police and it’s not worth loosing your life chasing after a shop lifter. No matter what management tells you, the company will not have your back if it goes sideways. He is lucky he was only peppered sprayed.1 point

Yes, I fully agree with you here. Since we didn't know the entirity of the situation, most people react in some specific ways; usually corresponding to their status in so many different areas of life. I never thought that 2-3 years would have made such a difference in me. Shows that the Lord does have a sense of humor. I prayed for many things for our old age. Not many of them met HIS intentions for us. I said many times over the course of my 50s...If you want to hear GOD laugh, tell HIM your plans. But we go forward as we can. Thank you sir, for being such a person as is able to stimulate me, and others, to thinking and not just automatic reaction. I reall enjoy your posts and comments...well most(lol). Be safe and vigilant, my friend.1 point

I completely understand where you’re coming from. It’s beyond a damn shame that people in this so-called society of ours needs live in fear, especially those that cannot physically or even mentally process daily situations and are in fact targets for the lowest scum there is that are always looking for any easy target. It really speaks volumes about this country. As to Goldmember’s post of social media trash, that was obviously in a residential area and I’m sure there is more to the story. Doesn’t rise to the level of arm all your women.1 point

A point of clarification on my comments here. Regardless of this, whether the girls are reversed, and it's a white on black situation; NO ONE should be treated this way. My feelings won't change because of the skin color. I have, and probably you too, seen videos of teens and young people just going crazy and beating someone. For unknown reasons, this seems to be increasingly seen. I don't want to say "common" but it sure seem to happen with some regularity.1 point

All the talking heads throw this line out. So do the politicians on both sides. I don't think any of them understand what a "background check/ TICS" really is. Most of them are still thinking we just walk into an FFL(and that's another thing the majority of the population don't understand) and pick out a 50 Caliber, 100 round pistol, and walk out with it. I cannot say how many times I've gone thru the TICS process, and not sure I really want to know, but in close to 45 years, I've never been denied or had a question arise. Guess I've led a boring life. I get so frustrated, and I'm sure all of us do when we hear all this again and again. It's absolutely the fault of that "evil black rifle" that these children, those nightclub goers, and office workers were killed. Usually the story leads with "So and so killed today by an AR15!" The person holding the rifle and pulling the trigger comes later in the story. Like others, I can say in 63 years of gun use, I, or anything I have been holding/shooting, has killed or even jumped up and shot at anyone. Now I will admit that at 15, my Dad's Remington 12 guage did shoot some chickens in our garden, but I warned them beforehand!1 point

Referring to Gov. Lee's coments on "strengthening background checks." How would this be done? We are already screened by TBI/HomeLand Security, and I understand in some cases, sent up the line for FBI checks as well. What more can be done? Interview school teachers, friends and neighbors(hope not in this), go into family history? Is TN in for a waiting perion to purchase? Just where does this get stronger?1 point

Modifying grips is a fairly common practice. I've got several guns with grips that were modified to suit my needs. In this picture, notice the Model 24 snubbie bottom center. I absolutely hate a round butt on a S&W N-frame. Those started out as a set of Ace round to square butt conversion target stocks. I chopped some off the bottom, lightened up the finger grooves and thinned the sides a bit to create a pair of semi-boot grips for this gun. Comfortable and functional.1 point

As long as they are in the store they are not shop lifting. They have to leave the store without paying for it to be shoplifting. Once the person has left the store they have also left his juristic and to follow them was totally wrong. It was a bad shoot and Walgreens will be sued and the guy will probably go to jail.....JMHO1 point

I was thinking about that scene where Josie Wales was walking right at the guy he was having the shoot out with and doing a reload as he walked and shot the guy after reloading. I bet that scene had more than a couple takes to get it right and Clint probably did a lot of practicing to get it right!1 point

I like fried bologna and have since I was a kid. Never tried it with garlic. I need to add that to my shopping list. I don't know if anyone has ever grilled bologna but it is really good. Thing is you need to get at least 1/2 a stick or more of butchers bologna and slice it into slices about as thick as a hamburger so you can put it on a burger bun and build it like you would a hamburger. Mustard, ketchup, tomato, lettuce or what ever. I like to put a slice of cheese on mine and build from there. You grill the bologna till it's brown on both sides. I made it for my kids when they were growing up and they liked it better the burgers.1 point

Sadly, with the vast majority of the MSM being in the left's pocket, you're right. Most will only learn what liberal news outlets want them to know and they'll use it against the people who are the opposite of this shooter.1 point
