  1. My take on this , is it's not so much about gun control, but just control . Gun control is a tool. Once they have our guns, then they can control us. JMHO

  2. My friend, if you could get a good answer, I'd be surprised. To me, the gist of all the anti arguments boil down to the "I don't like guns. So you can't have any." All sorts of add-ons to that, but that's my take on the whole thing. A bit off-track, maybe, but my wife and I were watching the 6 PM, Channel 5 News as Lee's Red Flag was being discussed. She still doesn't seem to understand why I'm so vehemently opposed to it. Summed it up this way. Liberal, MoM's Demand Action, nerighbor calls and says "My neighbor has a gun. I'm scared. He shouldn't have it." Police come and take gun(s) without any notice. I can't stop it. Why should neighbor be able to do this?

  3. The sentiment that everyone needs to carry is great and all, but the fact is that some people are more likely to harm themselves or others before they use a gun to defend themselves. A certain female in my life no longer carries after her lost gun was found loose in a purse, no holster, loose with several pens rolling around. Said she had too much going on to be concerned about keeping up with a gun. Come to think of it I can't count on both hands the people I know who don't have any business carrying a gun.

  9. I just went and read the questions on the application you have to fill out to purchase a firearm. The questions asked about a persons mental state are for the most part useless. Any 3rd grader could answer those and pass the back ground check. In the last 2 shootings the police said the weapons used were bought legally. That is a lie. Both shooters were proven to have mental issues after the fact and both had been under a doctors care and prescribed medications. The school shooters parents stated they they knew their daughter was suffering from emotional and depression and were concerned that she had purchased a gun. That should have raised a red flag with them to get her help and they didn't. The shooter at the bank had a personality change that was showing up for about 10 days prior that folks that knew him was obvious and he suffered several concussions while playing sports in high school and even though he was showing signs of problems no one stepped up to offer him help. He reached out to a friend in a text and a voice mail but they were not received until it was to late. He had also been seen by a doctor and on medication. Just being prescribed medications doesn't mean the person is going to take them. My point to this long post is RED FLAG laws will not address this issue. Maybe if they are going to address the mental issue about mentally ill people lying on the application they need to create a place where the doctors can put information on people they treat that can be recorded. It could be like a mental hospital file that could be a part of the back ground check.....JMHO

  11. Two things. First, I’m against red flag laws. I’m also not crazy about background checks. Second, and this is a very serious question for my own better understanding. How much more control can “they” get? I ask because, I’ve never felt so free since I retired, and it’s allowed me to really evaluate life. Even in retirement, choices are still limited to a structured system. So, have we ever really experienced true freedom, and how much more control outside of actual slavery can “they” gain over an individual? It seems from the moment we’re born, we’re constantly being guided, groomed, programmed or controlled. Very few of our choices are our own. They feel like our choices, but they’re only limited options provided to us to hopefully, successfully navigate and succeed or fail in structured and rigid society.

  14. I keep telling y'all. Its all about appearances. In politics you don't have to actually do anything as long as you can make it look like you're trying to. The antis know all too well that they ain't got a snowballs chance in Hell of actually passing anything. But by God, they sure look good trying.

  15. I had an Invisible Fence brand once, but it was 15 years ago. At the time, they touted their infinite level of adjustment that could be tailored to each dog. My dog only got shocked twice (once deliberately during training, and once on her own). I tested it myself. It wasn't a shock so much as my entire arm involuntary contracting at once. It didn't hurt like a strong static shock, but it was quite surprising. My dog vocalized like she was being briefly tortured, though. It was good solution for a house we didn't live in for long, but I like the security of a real fence to keep things out. Also, the dog had a pen for when we were away.

  18. I haven't mentioned cracklin' bread because they are so hard to find now! We used to kill hogs every November and cut up the meat, make sausage, salt and smoke hams, and make cracklins. I miss a good piece of cracklin cornbread, a bowl of pinto beans, a slice of onion, and homemade pear relish.

  19. I may get whipped for saying this, but I think Henry is one of the most over rated brands out there. Everyone I've handled felt cheap to me and was a substitute for something better. That said, I carried a hunting buddy's Henry in 44 mag, and my Marlin 45-70 guide gun out of a hollow at the same time. (He said if I carried his gun, he would drag out the pig we shot, sounded like a deal to me.) The Henry was much lighter than my Marlin.

  20. One of the variations of that argument that makes me nuts is, "I hunt with a [bolt action, muzzle-loader, knife, whatever] and no one needs a more efficient weapon than I choose to use." People STILL want to approach the 2A discussion as if it's about hunting, and a lot of gun owners are willing to accept some restrictions, so long as those restrictions don't include their personal favorite activity. I get why some people would advocate for so-called "red flag" laws, but the lack of due process requirements could lead to the kind of consequences that hipower mentions above.

  23. Something that I have not read in this thread is that no one has mentioned Crackling Bread. That was a staple around our house in the winter after hog killings to make smoke house meat. My job when I was still at home was to render the lard and separate the cracklings while the fats where still hot. My Dad and Grandfather were responsible for the smoke house duties of getting the meat packed in the salt and when it came time I would help them hang the meat and start the smoking process. The women were responsible for the processing of anything that was going to be frozen or canned. I guess for the most part that has become a lost art and not very many farms still do it. I loved Crackling bread anytime. Made a good snack about anytime!!

  29. I got an old Single Six at a gun shop I stopped at one day. Finish reall bad, and rear sight almost look like it was beaten with a hammer. Hammer and trigger were good, and the cyclinder was tight. It just looked like crap. Since the guy had several nice Rugers there, I said you need to get that one out. It makes the others look bad. He laughed at that and said make me an offer. Well, I just threw out a low offer, and to my surprise he said yes. 150 OTD. I walked away happy. Still have it somewhere around here. It was so smooth I gave it to my wife. She hid it for emergency use. Haven't seen it since!

  34. Just purchased a new S W Mdl 686-6, + 3" in 38/357 Mag. Just took it to my range and run 28 rounds through it. It shoots like a dream. This will be a house gun for me. This is the first 7 shot Smith I have seen in stock. My grandson asked me for my Mdl 681 6 shot 38/357 4" and I gave it to him 3 years ago. I have missed that revolver immensely. Never realized how much confidence I had in that revolver. Stopped by Outpost Armory today and they had the 686-6 in stock and I could not leave it there. I like 7 shot revolvers and that is what I pocket carry and have for the past 6 years. I am just a revolver man at heart.

  35. (Quote, hipower) Summed it up this way. Liberal, MoM's Demand Action, neighbor calls and says "My neighbor has a gun. I'm scared. He shouldn't have it." Police come and take gun(s) without any notice. I can't stop it. Why should neighbor be able to do this? Red flag laws, IMO, be may be OK if they would address this issue hipower brings up. It must have regress or review so the innocent cannot be unduly blamed by someone who has a dislike of guns, or a mad wife or family member. The law must have some kind of regress to be able to restore one's rights and ability to poses tools. I don't want the mentally ill getting guns, but then, how do you stop them with laws? Thats not working now. Background checks was supposed to fix that. Now it only serves as a Defacto "gun registry." (Quote), "He purchased the AR 15 legally." Where do they get that info????? By the way, the much-hated NRA said this would happen years ago. "It would be nothing but a gun registry!" How's that working today.....

  37. Well the general consensus of the three firearms related sites I frequent is that it's very ugly and very overpriced. It's not just you all here, at Tngunowners, saying that. There are a few that are publicly saying that they will pony up for one, but they seem to just be Henry fanboys. I do think they were aiming for a Colt Lightning semi-look alike or maybe a High Standard Sentinel, just like the Homesteader is a semi-look alike of the Winchester Mdl 03. Henry seems to like to do that. Put their spin on the esoteric look of older designs.

  41. Went by my local Publix the other day and saw no Nashville Hot Chicken, so I called them today (connected to the deli dept.) and asked if they had it and they said yes but it sells out fast when they put it in the case. They said I could order some and they’ll make it, be ready in about 30 minutes. So I gave them my name, and when I arrived about 45 minutes later they were waiting for me at the “Pick Up” counter at the front of the store. They don’t always have bone-in or wings available but it sounds like they can do boneless tenders whenever you want them. They’re great but be warned it ain’t cheap…12 tenders were $30, but they are pretty big. Thanks to @Will for sharing this discovery.
