  1. Just purchased a new S W Mdl 686-6, + 3" in 38/357 Mag. Just took it to my range and run 28 rounds through it. It shoots like a dream. This will be a house gun for me. This is the first 7 shot Smith I have seen in stock. My grandson asked me for my Mdl 681 6 shot 38/357 4" and I gave it to him 3 years ago. I have missed that revolver immensely. Never realized how much confidence I had in that revolver. Stopped by Outpost Armory today and they had the 686-6 in stock and I could not leave it there. I like 7 shot revolvers and that is what I pocket carry and have for the past 6 years. I am just a revolver man at heart.

  2. Now that the brace is off my broken wrist I can get back to leather work and gun work. The grip that came on my 629 did not fit my hand at all, and I HATE finger grooves. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at pistol grips, so today I jumped in. First set of grips I’ve ever tried. Shortened it by about 1/8” or so, removed the cursed finger grooves, cut down the sharp ledges toward the top of the grip on the sides, and sanded off the slick urethane finish. Added two coats of linseed oil. Might add some dark stain later. Feels really good in the hand, and now the 629 feels secure in my hand as well. Still knocks the ever-lovin-piss out of ya though. Nothing like shooting the good ole BFR. I think I’ve built up the courage now to try making a set of grips for the BFR. Got some black walnut and some osage orange coming. Might do both.

  3. I really, really wish the poll had a "I don't trust any national news media" option. I tend to take the "don't trust but research and verify" on any news story. IMO, all the national news have shifted to trying for emotional responses rather than just presenting facts.

  4. Trump has never been my guy and I don’t want him to be the nominee in 2024, but anyone with a two digit IQ can see that his indictment is a blatant political witch hunt. The only thing unclear is whether the left is trying to jam him up so he can’t run or they are trying to fire up support for him to ensure he is the nominee because he is more beatable than others.

  6. The FBI had Hunter's laptop during the last administration, Hillary, last administration, Russia Collusion hoax, with illegally obtained FISA warrants, spying on a presidential campaign, and while in office, yea all last administration . As I said, three letter agencies are compromised and anti-American.

  10. I have looked at this thread a couple of times and it filled me with the spirit so, today I took my 629 (6 1/2" barrel) out on the farm and ran some rounds through it at some AR500 steel. I had forgotten how smooth it runs and just how accurate it is with that long barrel. I carried a Ruger Blackhawk out also to run some .357 mag. First time in a few years that I have shot .357 and .44 mag back to back and the difference is quite noticeable. Had a great time shooting these hand cannons although even with ear protection that steel was ringing like the Liberty Bell.

  11. You have made YOUR side of the aisle known on this forum for many years. I look at many sources for news, and I don't believe what any COMMENTATOR - note that I didn't write "News Reporter" - has to say about what I see as I can think for myself, critically. Example: I watched the video of President Trump talk about the demonstrations in South Carolina (?) over historic statues being removed IN CONTEXT. He said that both sides had good people, and he was right. Next thing I know the idiots on the left accused him of racism, and perpetuated the lie FOR YEARS. Said idiots included those at CNN, MSNBC, and the major networks. I guess you've never heard of Nicholas Sandman.

  15. You would be wrong. So, current events then; I wonder why they haven't asked to have an independent audit of the machines? Get answers to questions like why do they connect to the internet.? Seems to me if they are being sued for slander then they should be trying to prove they were right and discovery would allow the deposition of executives and technicians to see if what was reported was right or not.

  16. Let me ask a question: Why does anyone believe that so-called Red Flag laws will work when you consider the other past cases of mass killings where law enforcement agencies had advance notice of threats or intent to do harm and yet still failed to stop the event? Think about that long and hard. The statement "The FBI/police were aware of [the individual]" has occurred so frequently in the aftermath of mass killings that it has become the butt of countless dark jokes. And yet... none of those agencies preemptively did anything to stop the killers. And in cases where a friend or family member knew the killer was making threatening statements ahead of the actual event, those friends or family members could have EASILY reported them to the authorities and potentially averted disaster. Threatening a person or group of people is already "assault". It is already illegal. A person guilty of making threats or threatening remarks can today be arrested and investigated for that! Further, arresting a person for making threatening remarks does not require that you adjudicate that person in advance, unlike filing for an emergency protective order under "Red Flag" provisions. It's actually a faster process. Conversely, if no one knows of the killer's intent ahead of time, no number of red flag laws would help. A killer that flies under the radar will never be stopped by these proposed laws. The only real difference between what we have now and what we will have if Red Flag laws are enacted is that gun owners will be subject to legalized and expensive harassment without the protection of due process. It's all bull#### meant to grab guns and preserve jobs for politicians.

  20. Modifying grips is a fairly common practice. I've got several guns with grips that were modified to suit my needs. In this picture, notice the Model 24 snubbie bottom center. I absolutely hate a round butt on a S&W N-frame. Those started out as a set of Ace round to square butt conversion target stocks. I chopped some off the bottom, lightened up the finger grooves and thinned the sides a bit to create a pair of semi-boot grips for this gun. Comfortable and functional.

  24. Looks good but is it harder to hang onto without the grooves? I have a 629 with a 6 1/2" barrel and it's not bad but can't imagine what that is like. I'd try it but one round might be all I'd want.

  29. I've been watching the state house fiasco from the start and don't know what should have been done. Like most here I leaned toward they shouldn't have expelled them (some of this is just my opinions and some is public knowledge) but these two clowns don't deserve to hold office. I can't really keep them separate since they both have the same name but it doesn't look like either one learned anything from this. They have not changed their actions, no apologies for breaking the rules and trying to cause a riot in the chamber. I hope I'm wrong about this but I doubt it. Many arrests for one of them and rioting. What kind of people send people like these to elected office? These two are not about the people they represent. I feel like they are all about their selves and it looks like it's working out well for them. We will be seeing their faces for a long time and I'm tired of seeing them.

  38. I just made a pan of cornbread this week to go with a pot of White beans I made. I made it like my mother use to make it. She was never one to make fancy bread but it all got eaten. She used yellow Corn Meal, spoon of yeast, 4 eggs, quart of buttermilk and a table spoon of lard in the skillet. Got the skillet hot in the oven then poured the lard in the mix, stirred and put it in the hot skillet. The only thing I did that was different was I used Self rising cornmeal so didn't need the yeast. I guess it was pretty good cause my son-in-law ate 3 pieces of bread and 2 bowls of beans since my daughter had to pull a double at work so he ate with me.

  39. My mother almost always cooked her cornbread on the top of the stove in a cast iron skillet rather than in the oven. In summer it was too hot to turn the oven on and in general it cost more to heat the oven if cornbread is all you're cooking. she would cover the skillet for the first part of the cook, then use a dinner plate to slip under the half baked bread and quickly flip the bread over to cook on the other side leaving the lid off from this point on. Doing the flip is a bit tricky and I've never been able to master it. I know she always did it over the sink, just in case. The best thing about it was that you got two crunchy sides! The recipe on the back of the corn meal mix works fine if you leave out that damn sugar!

  40. One of the forums I frequent (I think it was an ADV motorcycle forum) had a good recipe thread going for a long time. One day we were talking about squirrel dumplins and venison recipes and what not and this one fella asked if we'd every had crawdad cornbread. I am a sucker for some cajun/creole food, so I begged the recipe off of him and tried it. My kids begged me to make it every week for months after we tried it, but crawdads are hard to come by here, so started using mini cocktail shrimp instead. If you like cornbread and you like cajun food, I'd be surprised if you don't like cajun crawfish cornbread casserole. Don't it look good?
