  6. I agree in that there is a number, but we flush way more down the green new deal toilet than what it would cost to place 10 SROs in each TN school from kindergarten to med school, hell, maybe even the entire US, that discussing the cost seems disingenuous at best. Many of the security systems and other safeguards we've discussed on this very thread can be implemented very quickly, including allowing qualified veterans the ability to volunteer their time at their local schools, we have a wide distribution of vets that finding one or more for each school shouldn't be a problem. This could be a temporary solution while more trained and licensed SROs are made available.

  11. I truly hate it for him as well. Working ER for the past few decades I've seen similar related to using the non-gun hand to open or steady a less than rigid holster. Reholstering should be a cautious and deliberate act into a well made holster that doesn't collapse. Not saying that was what happened in this case, but I've seen wounds to the hip, lower extremities and even the non-gun hand that happened when reholstering, Hope he recovered well.

  15. None of them get my benefit of doubt regardless of the story. By the time MSM puts all the spin on ANY story it rarely reflects the truth. Moreover, they pick and choose which stories will get the most viewers and they sweep stories under the rug that doesn't fit their agenda and over-inflate stories that support their agenda. ZERO TRUST FOR MAINSTREAM MEDIA

  18. Game plan is the same as always - outlaw guns at every opportunity. Never let a mass shooting go by w/o taking more rights away. @BigK has it correct; the AR bans = low hanging fruit. They won't stop there. Look @ Great Britain, Australia, & now New Zealand for the playbook end goal results. And once everything is banned & crime is worse than ever, to include murder, it's too late. You'll never get your rights back. You can vote yourself into Socialism/Communism/Dictatorship but you can only escape from that by shooting your way back out of it. Gun control is really just "control"...period. History shows that giving up rights for 'safety' leaves you with neither. Sadly the masses have been sold an easy fix to stop mass murderers in the siren call of gun control. By the time it dawns on the average person that it was all a lie, it's too late. The NYT is just rough toilet paper. It's good for lining a bird cage. Sadly people are reading it thinking there is still something of value there.

  20. When that grand jury is from New York City I am not sure this benefit of the doubt applies. Had it been in a conservative area, maybe, but I suspect it's also very reasonable to expect a NYC grand jury to be just as anti Trump as the DA.

  22. Vet them through buyer/seller feedback here on TGO. Never meet after dark, if you can at all avoid it. Always meet at a well populated, well trafficked location. Most police stations and sheriff's departments are perfectly fine with you using their parking lot for this. Some even have designated parking spots FOR online sales handoffs. Discuss with the buyer/selller ahead of time if anyone else will be present so that there are no surprises. GO ARMED. Be ready to use it if you have to. Don't leave it in the car, in the glovebox. Keep it on you. LISTEN TO YOUR GUT INSTINCTS. Be willing to drive away if ANYTHING feels off about the setting or the situation at all. The possibility of resulting negative feedback or hurt feelings are completely inconsequential. Your instincts exist for a reason, so trust them. And one last tactic: I have, in the past, gone to a rendezvous and taken my own backup with me. Another person who I knew I could trust to handle the situation if it went sideways. They were armed and as skilled or more so than I am. I circled the lot and let them out nearby so that they could monitor and quickly respond if things got ugly, but far enough away from the rendezvous point that they weren't easily spotted. Basically, learn to think like a predator. Think like a bad guy. Think about what you would do if you were up to no good, and then think about how to circumvent that.

So I just recently bought a Delta 2 to power my refrigerator and a couple essentials. Tested it out and worked great. I have a Champion inverter generator and solar panels. I may add more later.

  32. Safety Reminder for Buyers and Sellers This is an automatic reply meant to protect you as a buyer and a seller on TGO. Use the Buyer/Seller Feedback feature to research who you are dealing with. Please come back and leave feedback for each other after the transaction is complete. Your experience will help others. Never agree to use an electronic form of payment to buy or sell a gun! None of the electronic payment services will protect you against fraud in a firearms transaction. They all have terms of service FORBIDDING the use of their services to buy/sell guns. DON'T DO IT. Be very wary of anyone who insists on brokering a deal in private or outside of TGO. Scammers almost always prefer to operate out of the public eye. The complete Trading Post Rules and also some more helpful suggestions can be found by clicking this link. Everyone should read them at least once! ~~~ This was an automatic reply ~~~

  34. If nobody ever used an AR-15 or any gun they think is black and scary in a crime, I think they'd still go after them. I suspect they see what they call assault style weapons as low-hanging fruit that they can use to start disarming the masses.

  38. Leroy, this is one of the most meaningful statements I have ever read on TGO. I certainly do not feel I am "evil", but if I entertain thoughts that someone is "less" than myself because we do not agree about ANYTHING and as a result I begin to view them "less than", I am sowing the seeds that nurtured over time, may become evil. If we really believe that we are made in the image of God, all persons have intrinsic worth. There have been times on TGO when some have felt I was a "libetard whack job", but I have always been accorded respect and care even when we disagree. That is how at its most base level we "obstruct evil." At the very baseline of relationships, can we offer grace rather than judgment of one another? Martin Buber wrote a book called "I and Thou" and denoted there are two kinds of relationships. An "I/Thou" relationship is one where we view one another without judgment or qualification. An "I/It" relationship is where we view one another as a "thing." I vote for "I/Thou" . . .

  39. Folks... There has been lotsa opining on this tragedy. An undeniable tragedy on lotsa levels. The sadness of children murdered. The sadness of folks of good will being murdered because they simply worked at this school. The tragedy of someone so young and so full of rage and hate that they thought shooting innocents and folks who were doing good was a laudable idea. There is simply no end to this tragedy. Folks are horrified, deeply saddened, scared and repulsed by this atrocious and senseless act. That said, there have been lotsa partial solutions advanced... School hardening, armed and trained resource officers, improved mental health screening, etc. The list goes on. All these solutions have their place, but I think all of these " governmental " and " societal " solutions overlook the root problem. That is the problem of " evil ". You cannot attend to this problem of senseless murder of others by not confronting the issue of evil people doing evil things. The fact of the matter is that there is no gubt solution to evil other than eradicating the perpetrators. We want to believe that if we somehow get the right mix of protections, that this problem will go away somehow. It will not go away because of the problem of " evil ". Murder, mayhem, and killing has always been around. It's present in every society. Our society has magnified this problem because we are so balkanized, hedonistic, and devoid of the ethics of how we should treat our brothers and sisters, that many are all about themselves and have no inclination to be accommodating or kind to others with which theys disagree. Put another way; only those who are in lock step agreement are brothers, and those who disagree with us are not worthy even of life. It is my fervent belief that this is the root of the problem; and as long as there are enablers, apostles, and cheerleaders for this madness; these senseless, evil calamities will not go away. That said, in our society " freedom of speech " enables them to continue. I do, however, believe they can be minimized to a great extent if we take the steps to physically protect children in the classroom using dedicated, trained, and able personnel who will not hesitate to use deadly force to defend these innocents. The solution is not more laws or gubt regulations. The solution is to make potential malefactors count the cost of doing these things as a deterrent; and to eliminate the perpetrators when the need arises. In closing, I've tried to keep this little epistle on the secular plane, but it is undeniable that this issue touches the spiritual plane. The " God-Man " said that " you should love your brother as yourself "... This is the ultimate solution, but we live in a fallen world. Since we live in this " fallen world ", we need to clearly see that there are evil beings bent on doing evil things, and we need to be ready as both Believers and Non Believers to take decisive action to protect these most precious in our society. May this sort of tragedy never happen again. leroy...

  42. I just made a pan of cornbread this week to go with a pot of White beans I made. I made it like my mother use to make it. She was never one to make fancy bread but it all got eaten. She used yellow Corn Meal, spoon of yeast, 4 eggs, quart of buttermilk and a table spoon of lard in the skillet. Got the skillet hot in the oven then poured the lard in the mix, stirred and put it in the hot skillet. The only thing I did that was different was I used Self rising cornmeal so didn't need the yeast. I guess it was pretty good cause my son-in-law ate 3 pieces of bread and 2 bowls of beans since my daughter had to pull a double at work so he ate with me.

  43. My mother almost always cooked her cornbread on the top of the stove in a cast iron skillet rather than in the oven. In summer it was too hot to turn the oven on and in general it cost more to heat the oven if cornbread is all you're cooking. she would cover the skillet for the first part of the cook, then use a dinner plate to slip under the half baked bread and quickly flip the bread over to cook on the other side leaving the lid off from this point on. Doing the flip is a bit tricky and I've never been able to master it. I know she always did it over the sink, just in case. The best thing about it was that you got two crunchy sides! The recipe on the back of the corn meal mix works fine if you leave out that damn sugar!
