I was watching it rain today, and figured my 7.5" Colt SAA needed it's own holster.9 points

For what it’s worth, I know a bunch of the students who were at the Capitol today - because they’re my kids’ classmates. A couple of things worth noting as an “insurrection” narrative is crafted: 1. This crowd was almost entirely students 2. Everyone you see passed through a metal detector and through security 3. They were loud - and it was tense - but it was in no way violent 4. At one point three students blocked a bathroom - and the state troopers got physical as they cleared a path 5. no students were on the floor at any point 6. At one point a few Democratic freshmen state reps took to the floor with a megaphone. The Democratic leadership was yelling for them to stop - and they’ll likely get censured. 7. Whether we agree or not with the message - protest is a fundamental right. It’s rarely a solution by itself - but it often makes room to find a solution. Do with that as you will.6 points

Lots of comments about why we have a lack of mental hospitals. I used to teach a grad school course on the history of mental health, but I won't bore with a lecture . But here are two websites that give good background: https://www.kqed.org/news/11209729/did-the-emptying-of-mental-hospitals-contribute-to-homelessness-here - a 2016 review from KQED that gives an excellent historical background. It cites the invention of chlorpromazine (Thorazine) as the first antipsychotic that, at the time, thought medication could eliminate the need for mental hospitals. Sadly, it was not so. The corresponding history is a jumble of state/federal money that shifts mental health care to the community. AMA Journal of Ethics - really good perspective - https://journalofethics.ama-assn.org/article/deinstitutionalization-people-mental-illness-causes-and-consequences/2013-10#:~:text=Three forces drove the movement,to save money [8].5 points

Colt 1903m 32 acp with a nickel finish. I’m not sure if the finish is original or not. I got it on trade so I don’t know a lot about it. Looks like it was made in 1906. I would say it is in fair condition. Has wear on the side from being in holster. Does have the original grips on it.looking to get $550 but Throw out an offer. Thanks4 points

I have one. He’s in college, a Baptist preacher, lives on his own, and pretty much self sufficient. Not a kid in any respect.4 points

That is already similar to what is happening. Hospitals have to treat people without insurance. To make up for this, they rape the insurance companies anytime someone with insurance has to be treated. So those of us with insurance are essentially subsidizing those without. Our premiums continue to get higher and higher and that's just to have a policy. If we actually get sick or injured, most of us have to fork out thousands of dollars until we hit our max out of pocket. What we're doing today is not working.4 points

This was a panic buy during the early days of Covid. Thought there was a chance that the ammo shortage would be even more brutal than it was. My shooting partner and I saw the price of .22lr and bought this randomly after he received his dd214 in April after weeks of stopping the spread. Needless to say we never needed it. The CO2 should still be viable. I am offering this free, with stipulations. I have held onto it solely for the idea of teaching my nephew to shoot. Im looking for a well established member who wants to teach the next generation shooting, safety, and generally break the stigma about gun ownership. I have at least 350 sealed bb rounds. All free. If someone were sitting on 9mm HD rounds I would take that as a trade so I can cycle mine. Also if you wanted to contribute .380/12/556. But that is by no means a requirement. The requirement is that you’re an established member who is going to teach the next generation niece/nephew/grandchildren that shooting is no more vilified than hanging out in pool halls, hitting the golf range, or throwing darts. Meetup would be ideally my driveway, otherwise Goodlettsville police station. If this ad doesn’t receive feedback from a well established member I will delete it in 7 days. TNGO has been more than kind to me, want to pay it forward and hoping to make someone a “cool” family member that can and teach the next generation. ‘’Scotty3 points

We have, and have won major battles in the courts reinstated 2A rights across the country. If you are not supporting local and or national gun rights organisations then you may not be doing enough. We know, and deep down, they know, that taking guns from law abiding citizens isn't the answer. An armed society is a polite society, I firmly believe that, and data backs that up. But for the antis, it's not about safety, it's about control.3 points

I think they work 100X harder for our rights than the NRA does. They are also WAAAAAAY better stewards of the money they collect than the NRA too.3 points

Well, I will kick in my 2 cents. Protests like the one in Nashville yesterday will have zero effect on the elected officials. If you want to protest and be effective the best place to do it is at the Ballot Box. Elected officials hear those protests loud and clear.....JMHO3 points

From what I saw on the Memphis news, the crowd was pretty big and loud, but mostly behaving themselves. No way you could call that an insurrection. I think somebody is just wanting to blow this up for their own purposes. I got no problem with peaceful protests. That's the American way.3 points

I believe the young people are justified in their rational fear. After all, they are overwhelmingly the people in the classrooms. I’d hate to have school aged kids in this climate. We must resist the temptation to apply adult logic to youthful fear. Their concern is extremely valid. They don’t want to live in a world or attend school surrounded by guns.3 points

I can’t speak for every state, but in TN people receive medical and mental care everyday, whether they can afford to pay for it or not. When you say government provided health care it means healthcare that is paid for by all the rest of us. The Hospital systems are all run like for profit businesses regardless of their tax status, and they will gladly care for the poor while simultaneously milking our tax money from the government and from us again through ridiculously high medical costs. As someone who works at the ground floor of the medical system (Fire/EMS) I can tell you that the people most likely to not get the care they really need are those solidly in the middle class. The poor and immigrants abuse the healthcare system more than anyone, so don’t even try that as an argument.3 points

You can protest against their 1st amendment because they are protesting against your 2nd. If you take away their 1st, someone can take rights away from you. Like it or not until everyone becomes a Libertarian, the left wing and the right wing need each other to balance one another out.2 points

Not as long as they stay peaceful. Like it or not, they have constitutional rights too.2 points

My point they are legally adults, and saying that "children" are now being killed at a higher rate via firearms, when you count 18 and 19 year old adults as "children" to pad the numbers is misleading at best. Also, you'll note the years they're quoting, which is right in the middle of the pandemic when travel was greatly reduced, and thus fewer vehicle wrecks, and thus fewer deaths. Frankly, I don't care what the death rate is for violent inner city gang members, the higher death rate they have, the less crime they're committing over the long run. And the less likely it is to impact me.2 points

Well I guess I will be looking into joining the TFA I'm not a member of the NRA any longer. I parted ways with them several years back and been looking for a new group to be part of..... Thanks for all the replies.2 points

Legally, they are adults, not children. And I believe that JayC's point point was that most of those deaths are the result of gang violence and other criminal activity. I don't think it's at all reasonable to include those deaths when speaking of children killed by firearms. Do you?2 points

For those that have the time and interest, this is the best review of the need for mental health institutions. It is entitled, "Bring Back Asylums . . . but Better." About 35 minutes, but it is very well done.2 points

This can be done today, without any changes to the law. Doctors aren't doing it.2 points

I remember when the State closed Central State Mental Facility in Nashville. It took 21 years to settle all the lawsuits connected to so called "Patient Abuse" cases for that facility. The mentally ill are prone to be hard to handle at times. People get hurt. The kinfolks of the mentally Ill could not handle their relatives and sue the state when they go see them and they have injuries because someone tried to control an out-of-control person, and got bruised or injured. Here came the lawsuits. I don't think you will ever see State run mental facilities, like Central State, anywhere in the U S any time soon. Most all of the States mental health system dumped the patients back to their families or out on the streets and closed their facilities back then. Now society must deal with them and not doing a very good job. It's a big problem.2 points

I see what you mean. Their side wants to do something (even if we think it's wrong). Our other side only knows banning guns won't work, but we don't have a better answer, so we look like we don't want to do anything.2 points
-
I mean honestly, can we blame the kids? They just want to go to school and not worry that some clown is going to come in and start killing them. They are bombarded by gun grabber logic because it's the only real actionable argument being made Our side says it's mental health. I believe that to be true, but they aren't doing anything meaningful to try and fix it.2 points

If you are wanting something in the Nashville area there is @aqil Aqil Qadir at Citizens Safety Academy. He is a Rangemaster certified Master instructor and teaches the Rangemaster Combative Pistol class now and is a solid dude. He’s one of my favorite people. If you are willing to come to Chattanooga I’m also a Rangemaster certified Master instructor and I taught for Suarez International for 15 years. My website is Harriscombative.com . You can see the rest of my info like who I have trained with and shooting experience in my bio on the website.2 points

Ha. Well, we do have about a years supply of dog food stockpiled. I like to tell him if the economy gets any worse we'll both be eating it. That's my best friend, like him so much I even bought my home specifically to give him a little land to let him run and roam and be a country dog. Can come home after working 20 hours and dead tired and he never fails to put a smile on my face. He earned his keep this season tracking for me and he got some venison bone broth and sheds/bones as a reward. Most high energy and prey driven dog I've ever owned, he needs to run an hour a day or else he's miserable. Helps me get some sunshine and garden. I think he's got a little bit of boxer and lab mixed in. Before you sign up for ownership, just know that little $200 pound puppy has had $40k worth of medical expenses, and has spent probably in total 30 days on multiple ICU vet visits. Spider bite, adverse vaccine reaction, 2 ACL surgeries, couple dogs jumped him, and then the kicker was ALS/Fungal Meningitis (Spinal tap, brain stem, intense). He's a little gimpy some days but he's always happy as hell. His antibiotics are a pre-covid luxury car payment a month. People tell me I'm nuts, but I waited my whole life to have a place to let a dog run. Would love to get him a sibling but I don't have the time these days. That said, he is worth every penny, and I get my return on investment everyday I pull up the drive. He's met a couple of TNGO members so if you ever get a text with a vehicle make and model and a puppy in the back seat that'll be this stud.1 point

As I said in a previous post, I thank the members of this forum for the ability to have decent discussion about this. Maybe it is because we are all Tennesseans, and this event hits home, maybe it is because we know TGO David will swing the “Ban Hammer” if needed, or maybe it is because we care about each other, but this is healthy discussion, not a bunch of folks railing on one political side or the other as o the MO forum (mostly railing against one side). It has been a very hard week here in my world, and I give thanks that I feel comfortable expressing what is going on in this forum.1 point

Not to discount any of those points, but we're devolving as a society. The more we resemble a Godless society that doesn't effectively deter crime, can't disagree without hate, and actively dismantles families by punishing the married poor and incentivizing single motherhood, the worse it's going to get.1 point

I would agree that first " I'll Take It" should be a settled deal by both parties. However, PM sent does not mean much to me. I send PM's quite often to Sellers just asking questions. I may put PM Sent just to make sure the Seller sees that I have sent him a message.1 point
