This should require a consensus from several doctors, in my opinion. Perhaps confirmation from at least two of three. We are talking about taking away a person's rights without trial.13 points

Guys, on the topic of carrying something more than a concealed handgun as part of your church security/safety team kit, please consult with your team's leader first. And then consult with a legitimate training organization on the practicality of it and, if you decide to go forward, get legitimate training from a reputable trainer on how to employ a carbine-caliber weapon in CQB - especially CQB with crowds of people. I don't want to be hateful but this is serious business and I'm afraid that this could devolve into some serious Mall Ninja bull#### if not done properly. Running a carbine in CQB is a unique skillset and it brings along with it a whole new level of ballistics considerations. You have to train accordingly.10 points

Many physicians share the opinion that simply owning a firearm is a mental deficiency. As for opinions, I simply want this type thing to stop without making me and millions of other law abiding citizens criminals.9 points

I’ll say this. The school deserves a lot of credit and recognition. One thing you don’t see in the MNPD video is panic teachers and children. They heard the alarm and acted according to a plan that had obviously been practiced. They protected those children as best they can. Unfortunately no plan is perfect or can work flawlessly and the evil got through to a few, but lives were saved by the forethought and planning of the administration and staff. I believe in learning everything we can from these events. 1) I hope more private schools will find ways to employee on-site security or SRO. 2)Any door that is locked for protection should also have some level of glass break prevention. It can’t be bullet proof but internal wire mesh would have prevented or significantly slowed the entry of the assailant. These are not criticisms of Covenant but they will be times brought up at my kids schools as items that need addressing8 points

Red flag laws will be the weapon of choice for ex wives/jilted girlfriends as well as pissed off neighbors. Just imagine your home being raided and firearms confiscated simply because your neighbor didn’t like some small thing you did and made a call on you. If an adult can’t be trusted with a firearm, should they be in public at all?7 points

On another note, it is easy to tell that most of the newscasters are not gun owners or enthusiasts. It seemed to be a big deal that she had 7 guns and bought them all fairly recently. Hell, I have picked up 5 lever guns in the last 6 months. Not all were through FFLs, but that is not in-normal, at least for gun enthusiasts. Now, I am not saying she is a gun enthusiast, but you can tell the newscasters don’t realize that it fairly normal. it is normal, right?6 points

There are some things I’m going to keep private out of respect - but by all accounts one of the children acted in a truly heroic manner. Lives were almost certainly saved because of it. These children acted like they were trained. Lord bless them and keep them all.6 points

I would venture that the media would produce a lot of hype concerning the number of rounds of ammunition that most members of this forum own. There is nothing crazy about a recreational shooter having 5,000 rounds of .22 on hand at any given time, but the media would paint a totally different picture.5 points

If you had the means to buy six or seven cars, would anyone really care about that? Or pocket knives? Or baseball bats? All of those are things that you could kill a person with. None would likely raise an eyebrow with most folks. The media focuses on the guns because the politicians told them to, and the people who own the politicians told them to focus on guns. It's all about systematically disarming the people so that the people are powerless. And most people won't believe that even though the justification for it is all over the global news every week, playing out in real-time for them.5 points

Until your Doctor determines your a danger because you don't want to get a vaccine for religious reasons. Red flag laws anyway you dress them up are going to get abused more than they are going to stop bad people. Our society is ill, in a number of different ways, new laws aren't going to fix that, taking away people's rights aren't going to fix that... Changing society one person at a time is the only way to fix it long term. BUT, locking up criminals, and placing people who are a danger to themselves and others in mental institutions - neither of which require any laws to be changed - would probably go a long way to making the streets safe for regular people again. Oh yeah, and maybe looking for links between 'mental health drugs' and these shooting, might be an interesting study.5 points

Red Flag laws are nothing more than guilty until proven innocent. I believe that eventually SCOTUS will rule them unconstitutional. But that could take some time to happen. They can do a lot of damage until then.5 points

If you are so dangerous that the public believes you need your guns taken away then you are too dangerous to be in public. No need to take the guns. Take the people.5 points

Nothing is going to change. The democrats had control of the House and Senate and didn't do anything. They will continue to threaten us with gun control every time this happens. The Republicans will continue to blame mental health then refuse to actually allocate funds for more treatment.4 points

I can say as of the beginning of this school year, my son’s private Christian school has a retired, armed LEO there at all times students are in. But as stated previously, had to be paid for out of pocket. Well worth the increase in tuition this year if you ask me, would gladly have paid double!4 points

I'm not opposed to a method for medical professionals to report patients they feel present a danger to themselves or others, but I am opposed depriving someone of due process as a result. If that report temporarily flags them for TICS that's less egregious until the flag is cleared, I'm fine with it. I'm not fine with showing up to take someone into custody and seizing their private property until they can prove themselves innocent.4 points

Yes..on a case to case basis and not the public, aka jilted girlfriends but a Doctor. Doctor finds you are having suicidal/homicidal manic thoughts then i think a some hospital time is in order. We have gone from one extreme to the other on mental health in this country. Need a middle ground.3 points

I know that all of us on the TGO don’t have the same opinions and political leanings, and that we also respect the rules regarding too much political discourse in threads. But I am glad this discussion has not de-evolved into just bashing one side or the other. I am on the MarlinOwner Forum, and the only thread I have seen regarding this tragedy is fairly ugly and one sided and conspiracy filled. I tried to post to it and just had to delete and step away Thank you all for your restraint if you do have strong opinions one way or the other.3 points

I expect you are correct SP because the tube magazine holds 17 rounds which is more than they want to allow. They want 10 max. The main issue with the people wanting to take the guns from law abiding folks is the gun grabbers don't know anything about them. They blame to gun for killing people when it is the person with it doing the killing. The gun is nothing more than a tool.3 points

Hope is what gives us the strength to go on. I pray for it daily. Hope and strength to walk thru this garden we have inherited. I come across as a dark and pessimistic person most times. I don't deny that. Sadly it's a part of my nature. I do work to change it and myself; but it is a daily challenge for me. But I still am able to see the good in people and this life. I just pray for more good, and less evil.3 points

Picked up these two jewels in the last few months. Top one is the Magnum Research BFR .44. Six round and 5” barrel. Bisley style grip. The hottest load I’ve shot out of it so far is the Underwood 255 grain Keith. Feels like I’m shooting a .38. I do need to find a shorter front sight blade for it. This thing seems to be built like a Swiss watch. I bought some 260 grain hard cast Keith bullets from Rimrock Bullets. I need to work up some good loads. Second one is a Smith 629-6 .44 with a 3” barrel. Haven’t been able to find much info on it and I don’t feel like paying for a Smith and Wesson letter. It has the Magna-Port style barrel porting. In other words instead of a hole or holes, the ports are the Magna-Port style slots. As you can tell, I’m every bit as much of a Smith and Wesson expert as Slingblade was. So, if anyone has any info on this model just feel free to educate me on it. Both of these are a joy.2 points

I feel the same way about the pharmaceutical industry. Why would they want you to get better ? That would mean you don't need them anymore lol.2 points

I'm vehemently against red flag laws altogether because of due process. However, keeping crazies from buying guns is something I'm not so opposed to. I don't know the perfect formula for achieving that, but I hope it happens in a way that it could have prevented people like this nutjob from buying guns.2 points

I have very mixed feelings on "Red Flag" laws. Any law that gives police or federal agents the ability to walk into your home...take your property, and/or arrest you is extremely unsettling to me. As has been covered here and in other forums and media, I think the practice is full of misuse and prone to personal injury on both sides of the involved parties. In reality, as bersayguy mentioned, gives virtually anyone with a grudge against you the ability to cause you untold grief and potentially ruin your life forever. There needs to be a better criteria for it's use and existance than we see in place now. Mabe having it be linked to civil court proceding or an actual crime? Medical personnel with proper credentials and proof of a threat? I just don't think the current law is acceptable. And...of course the threat is being used once again by certain groups and politicians to further more and broader gun control. JMO2 points

I can agree with much of this. My only issue is if they are going to have medical professions making decisions about who should not own a firearm they need to have s system put in place for that Medical professional to report to other than local law enforcement and it does not act like some generalized Red Flag Law. There needs to be rules put in place that prevents people like mad neighbors, a mad wife or ex wife or girlfriend. It's like you said. The person deserves due process and most police officers don't do that when they respond to a domestic disturbance call. They arrest the person to jail, take all the guns and lock them up. When the person is released, seldom if ever do they get their guns back. That is one of the Red Flag problems that needs to be addressed.2 points

Well, I am not at all for a red flag law that can be implemented by a neighbor or ex, or disgruntled a$$. But if someone is under the care of a medical professional, and that professional feels they are a danger, at least there is some weight there. But still, that can be manipulated and abused.2 points
-
I do have grave concerns about red flag laws, because there is no real due process there. In addition, if it’s a situation where somebody is so unsafe to have access to firearms, then they are not safe to be in public at all. They should be in a place where they are receiving the treatment that they need to help them function in society safely.2 points

This brings me back to a position of making it easier for family being able to involuntarily get folks help along with state support of mental healthcare resources.2 points

Yeah, I solely use it for image hosting. Don’t even bother looking around it anymore. Do my best to click in and out before I even have a chance to see the mess of a cesspool that place is.2 points

That will just be used as evidence the current system isn't sufficient to keep guns away from the mentally ill, and more control/restrictions are needed. Not sure how comfortable I am with mental health professionals entering patient data into a federal and/or state system. Especially as it might stop people from getting help when they need it, even if they aren't the type that would do this. Where do we draw the line at personal privacy and public safety?2 points

Imgur has been that way forever. I quit lurking there at the same time i quit reading reddit. Got tired of being called the devil every day on the front page, while watching them cheerlead anti-Christian and "new-age lifestyle". Thanks, but i'll find my funny elsewhere.... it was the only reason i showed up anyway...2 points

I use Imgur.com as my photo host. They also have a huge public area where folks post memes, cartoons, jokes, etc. Lots of funny stuff and I've gotten a lot of good laughs there. Much of which I post here in the Memes thread. I generally check it out every day. However, its also used by radical liberals to bad mouth republicans and push their woke agenda. Trump is their favorite target. After this school shooting they've gone completely bat poop crazy with their gun control crap and especially about banning assault weapons. The sight is plumb full of it right now. They're getting down right nasty about it too. They're stirring up a poop storm, so be aware. I fear we're in for a real fight this time.2 points

Speaking of church security, I also volunteer for the same at mine. Though we call it "safety" as we're also first responders. Carry insurance has been on my list of todo's because of it. I'm noticing that not all plans cover you being an "agent of a house of worship". The ones that do are quite a bit higher per month. I think it's due to the liability. So if you're doing this, like I am... make sure you're looking into how to cover yourself in case you ever have to go to work (I pray it never happens for any of us).2 points

I too saw the video of the murderer shooting out the glass to obtain entry. I met Wayne at a church security conference and learned about his security laminate product. Thoughts it may be of interest and value to share https://www.eversafe-usa.com/2 points

Pure speculation on my part, but that’s what we do here. I have strong, strong suspicions, that we will discover that this is related to recent legislation.2 points

Might I suggest that you specifically look for the Pug in 22 mag then. It's the shortest of the NAAs (1 inch barrel) that still has the better cylinder pin design (like the mini-master or black widow).1 point

News reports are saying that these are the two Metro Nashville Police Department officers who engaged with and took out Hale, preventing her from murdering any more children or adults. Officer Rex Englebert, a four-year MNPD veteran Officer Michael Collazo, a nine-year MNPD veteran If accurate, bravo to them! They went in, did work, and saved lives. HEROES.1 point

I'm very proud of MNPD's response time and selflessness to rush toward the gunfire to save lives. I'm so glad more lives weren't lost thanks to their bravery and quick actions.1 point

no surprise with any of these-- with a few exceptions, most of them are virtually socialist paradise nanny states, or close to it. Thanks for your research efforts!1 point
