  2. Well, The electrician was dead on with his timing and he completed the job and was gone on Wednesday and had me powered back up Wednesday evening and he called for an inspection on Thursday. The inspector only works in Smith County on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The inspector came out, spent about 10 minutes looking at the work and put a sticker on the breaker box that said inspected and approved. I spent most of yesterday unplugging my house from the generator and looping up extension cords so Tommy could take them back to work warehouse of his employer. As far as my cables bringing power to my box from the weather head outside, I had the electrician check them and they are copper but he did install a new ground cable for the weather head as the one on it was broken near the ground. I guess I am good to go for a while and Rosie got a special supper the last few nights and I have a bag of treats for her. I tested her again last evening and she is still doing as I taught her. I went to the far end of the house away from her and pushed the test button on a smoke detector and in about a minute she was standing beside me and I said good girl and petted her and gave her a treat. I'm also going to look at updating my ABC Extingushers as they are all over 5 years old. They still work but just somethings need to be updated over. time.

  3. If you get one of them “if it fits we ship” boxes from USPS. You’ll be amazed how much you fit in one in boxes. Just tape it very well, or use one of the larger boxes, line it with 1/8 inch plywood. I have received a many a pound of lead that way over the years. Mailman look sideways at you but they will deliver it. No, I do not need any Linotype. GLWS

  12. 18” LaRue .223 Wylde chamber (5.56/.223) billet AR. All LaRue parts except for grip (BCM, original available) CH (Radian Raptor) and castle nut (PWS ratcheting style). (I changed those parts out, rest was built by the LaRue crew.) Perfect base rifle for an SPR build. These are some of the most accurate AR-15s on the market. I’ve only put a couple of mags through her. I got REALLY into retro rifles and NVGs after getting her. So she’s never gotten a whole lot of use because of that. You’re gonna get a very clean, accurate and all but brand new rifle. $1500 located in Jackson.

  15. I guess it all depends on what you expect. I kinda lean towards it’s not worth the effort for the casual shooter, but maybe if you’re talking about distance or competition then it might help. Then again, if the action isn’t secure, then a fancy new stock isn’t worth it. I have a 10/22 with a Boyd’s stocks bought about 12 years ago, it’s tight and accurate, but things do change over the years. Usually not for the best. I think @Hozzie knows a thing or two about this subject.

  18. Great thread! I and my bride (RIP) are from SW MS. All of our "people" are from the "Free State of Jones" , Cornbread has always been a staple in our house. I'm 69 and was given a cast iron cornbread skillet by my father that he said he'd had since he was 8 years old. That would have been 1936. My Mother was a terrible cook! Loved her, but she lacked skill. WTH? My Mother in law (Winnie Sue), as was Rhonda (my Bride), were/are great cooks. I learned from the best. I'm gonna list our family's standard cornbread recipe and our "Mexican cornbread" recipe below. The real key is preheating the cast iron skillet. The initial pour will rise and start browning as you pour. That's when you know you're doing it right. FWIW we use Martha White SR flour and SR Cornmeal. We, the People of the Free State of Jones, believe recipes are merely suggestions and open to experimentation and tweaking to suit your taste buds. At least that's my excuse in case I forget something that isn't critical. Winnie Sue's Cornbread Preheat oven to 350 degrees with greased skillet in the oven, 30 minutes. Mix in large bowl: 2 cups SR cornmeal 1 cup SR flour 2 eggs I put 2 tablespoons of sugar in it 'cause I can! Enough buttermilk to thin. That'd be a bit less than a pint. We really don't do exact measurements back home LOL Bake for 35-40 minutes, depending on your oven. As soon as you remove the baked cornbread from the oven, turn it onto a plate...otherwise the castiron skillet will overcook it. I make Hamburger soup or French Market soup at least once a month. It would be sacrilege to eat either without Winnie Sue's cornbread! I'd lose my "Southern Card" for certain! "Mama’s Mexican Cornbread" Winnie Sue Brown one (1) pound of lean ground beef with a cut up onion – Drain Mix the cornmeal batter: 2 cups of self rising cornmeal 1 cup of self rising flour 2 eggs 2 tlbs “Wesson” oil Jalapeños to taste… make it real tasty. If you don't sweat a little under your eyes you aren't adding enough peppers. Open can of cream style corn and pour 1/2 into batter mix Add buttermilk to right consistency. It doesn't take much due to the liquid in the cream style corn...beware! Grease pan...preheat as above. 30 minutes. Pour ½ batter in the hot greased pan/skillet Layer with shredded cheese Add ground beef mixture on top of that Add the other ½ cream corn – spread on top of meat mixture Add a layer of shredded cheese Add other ½ of batter for next layer Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes or until brown I use a 9 inch cast iron skillet for the Mexican cornbread. It's relatively new and only about 60 years old. Leave the Mexican cornbread in the cast iron skillet. Slice and serve after it's "rested" about 30 minutes. It'll still be hot, I promise. Rhonda and I complied a folder of recipes I copied from hand written notes, envelopes, etc we collected over the 33 years of marriage( with which God Blessed me). That folder is pretty thick by now. 20. 1 cup self-rising cornmeal; OR one cup regular cornmeal, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1 tsp baking powder 1 heaping tablespoon flour 1 large egg 2 tbsp oil 1 tbsp cider vinegar 1 cup milk 1. Preheat oven to 425. Grease a cast-iron skillet with vegetable shortening or lard and let it come up to heat in that oven. 2. Add a tablespoon of cider vinegar to a cup of milk, stir and let sit as it sours and curdles. 3. Mix the 'dry' ingredients, cornmeal and flour, in a separate bowl from the 'wet' ingredients: the egg, oil, and soured milk. 4. When the milk is soured and the oven is up to the right temperature, and the skillet is heated and ready to go, then, working quickly, mix the 'wet' and 'dry' ingredients together. Don't worry about getting it completely smooth, but do break up any big lumps. Overmixing the batter will cause the cornbread to come out dense and tough. 5. As soon as the batter is mixed, take the cast iron skillet from the oven, and pour the batter into it. Do not stir. 6. Return the skillet to the oven and bake until the top is golden-brown, has started to crack a bit, and the cornbread has begun to pull away from the sides of the skillet. This takes about 15-20 minutes depending on the size of your skillet. 7. Dump the cornbread from the skillet onto a cooling rack so it does not continue to cook.

  24. Glad your OK. My house is 40 Y O and about 7 years ago I was washing my car and notice I touched the incoming conduit into my splitter box and seen a blue spark shoot to my hand. I called my Son-in-law who works for the local electric department. He came over and said he bet my lugs were loose on my main boxes, 2-200amp boxes. Took the cover off both and for sure they had to be tightened. Evidently we caught this in time because the wires had not heated to the point of damaging either breaker box. Makes me wonder if I need to retighten them now. I haven't noticed any problems. Over time aluminum wire shrinks and that is what my installer put in for the entrance cables from the weather head to the mains in my boxes. Ground was not making good connection and the spark came from that. I had noticed a large drop (dim Lights) when the heat pump kicked on also. You are a lucky man, and your dog is to be praised.

  27. Thank you my friend and the man and his sons came very highly recommended by people in this area that have been using him for many years. He has been doing these kind of repairs for 40+ years and his sons grew up helping him. He is a certified electrician and so are both his sons and they sub contract themselves out to electrical contractors when their father does not have work. When Dad has work they help him first. I will sure be glad to be fixed up again so I can get rid of that generator noise out on my patio and 350 feet of extention cords running all over the house operating things. Tommy was able to borrow the stuff from his company and I didn't lose any freezer stuff at all.

  28. I have a certified 40+year veteran electrician and his two sons working on replacing the complete panel and all breakers and I told him to replace anything he thinks need replacing. He got here at 6 AM with his helpers And said I should be able to have power very shortly after the inspector marks it as GOOD and the power company replaces the meter. About 6 months ago I told Tommy I wanted him to pick me up 2 Kerosene heaters and 15 gallons of Kerosene and showed him the ones I wanted at Home Depot where his company gets a discount. He tried to talk me out of it but I have two and been heating my house with them since the fire. Tommy said how did you know you would need the heaters and I said GUT FEELING....LOL! Like Boy Scout slogan goes. Always be prepared! Believe me the pup, Rosie gets lots of rewards. Here is a picture of the hero!
