  1. Well, this one sucks. I've not had it long & wanted one for yeeeears, but I've got some major upcoming expenses that have to take priority. I can always buy another one later. It still sucks though. Pretty much mint condition, no marks anywhere I can find & a low round count. Not sure how many @AuEagle put through it, previous to my ownership, but I've put less than 100 shots down the pipe. It comes with 1, 10 round & 1, 20 round mag, plus the sling, Burris Scout 2-7x32 scope in Leupold rings. Also included is the USGI M14 manual of arms. It's a rock solid outfit & great fun to shoot! It has the least recoil of any rifle I've ever shot, bigger than .223! Never had a misfire or malfunction. $2000 all in or $1700 for the bare rifle, both mags & sling, no scope or rings (what I have in it)

  5. A couple of things to think about: The intent of this thread was not to start a cat fight about who is who, what their pronouns are, nor to assess the morality of society in general. The answer to the " morality of society in general " is obvious... It stinks. Simple observation teaches that fact. it was to point out the grievous error in judgement that McNally ( a politician ) made in this episode and to prognosticate on the political fallout. These are two separate issues. I'ma thinkin he may be done, regardless of his " pronouns n proclivities ". His problem is self created. He lives in a world where folks are watching for any error or excuse to remove or gain advantage over their opposition. McNally has allowed a grievous one. He is a " public figure ", and can be worn out by his enemies; political and otherwise, in the public court of opinion. The second issue is one of " legislating morality "... As others have opened; it can't be done. That said, every citizen of this state has to recognize that the " grooming n hitting on kids thing " is dead on arrival here in this state, and most everywhere else I know of. It is the responsibility of parents to be " parents ". It is the responsibility of those who interact with kids ( both teachers and other adults ) to keep their hands off them in any way that is " suggestive". It's that simple. " Hands off " means no drag shows open to kids, no books, no " alternate literature " in textbooks n school libraries ", no " show n tell ", etc; you get the picture. You ( and me, and " ...them ... priests, preachers, teachers, librarians, neighbors, kinfolk, polititians, etc." ), as outsides, should keep your conduct non suggestive and pure. Failure to do so is dangerous to your career, your overall physical condition, and even your life here in Tennessee. The " libertarian " ideal doesn't apply to kids; it applies to adult citizens. Children are put in the care of their families, they are not " freeborn citizens of the world ". Failure to respect this truth can be very dangerous on lotsa levels in most every place I've ever been. There is no " libertarian utopia ", where you are free to do whatever you want, free of rules n boundaries. Societies and gubts don't work that way. Finally, my apologies to Brother GrayFox; I couldn't get the quoted text box to go away in this post. Leroy...

  6. How often do queers and other of that ilk actually do that? I get the concern, I don’t want it shoved down my throat or anyone else’s either. I’m also tired of the perception that it’s some kind of daily moral crisis that the media makes it out to be. Our state legislature plays right into the hands of that small fringe that are pushing such aberrant behaviors. It’s so obvious it’s ludicrous how absolutely stupid everyone in this society is.

  10. I just made a pan of cornbread this week to go with a pot of White beans I made. I made it like my mother use to make it. She was never one to make fancy bread but it all got eaten. She used yellow Corn Meal, spoon of yeast, 4 eggs, quart of buttermilk and a table spoon of lard in the skillet. Got the skillet hot in the oven then poured the lard in the mix, stirred and put it in the hot skillet. The only thing I did that was different was I used Self rising cornmeal so didn't need the yeast. I guess it was pretty good cause my son-in-law ate 3 pieces of bread and 2 bowls of beans since my daughter had to pull a double at work so he ate with me.

  12. As long as it's illegal to murder the wicked there has to be a moral line in the sand drawn. The question is where and who's moral compass? In fact making murder illegal is a law based on morality. In some cultures, using kids for sexual gratification is acceptable. Do we stand and let those cultures practice that in this country because "you can't legislate morality"? Those who agree with a law will follow and those who disagree will break the law. It's always been that way. Laws are not always there to punish the one that broke the law but to protect them. A good man is capable of terrible things if left without any other options. As for myself, I don't want my kids around the priest or the perverted. I also don't want the priest or perverted making my laws.

  13. Microbreweries are (presumably) an adult venue and are private businesses. So whatever. However, holding such an event at a venue where children are always present, especially a taxpayer-funded location like a library, zoo, or museum, should be off limits. We are being told that first graders can pick their sex and that the voting age needs to be lowered, but the same people argue that 18 year olds are not mentally developed enough to own guns or be held accountable for crimes. Wonder why the duality? Whatever the case, hopefully McNally's apparent downfall will help 2A causes in TN. I'm not holding my breath, though.

  14. I have no problem with the drag show legislation. LGBTQ folks can do whatever they like with each other, but when they wear fake boobs and a bondage outfit and do a stripper-ish routine at the local zoo or library and bill it as a “family friendly” event for kids, that’s a problem.

  15. The hipsters and microbrew types are just as reactionary…and capitalist as the puritans passing morality laws. They’re going to make a buck because it’s just too easy and they will actually make a buck off their clientele’s emotions. The pendulum swings wider and wider.

  16. Concrete slab is a cold sumbeech on your feet in the winter. If you can swing it and your building site will accommodate, a basement is the cheapest square footage you can get. An added advantage is that it makes your house easier to heat and cool. The basement stays at a pretty much even temperature all on it’s own, like a cave. Further, you have somewhere to go when the tornado alarms go off.

  19. Greg... We are seeing it here in Knoxville in the hipster microbrewery scene. Ya are seeing the microbrewery guys doin " special events " aimed at the " alternate " community. These guys are the ultimate, hard working, quick thinking, cynical, capitalists entrepreneurs; workin hard ta get every dollar available from every people group. At least two that come to mind here are the Gypsy Circus cider guys, and the Yeehaw brewery guys. I do business with both these guys. Once in a " Blue Moon ", I have some hard cider. I love and highly recommend Yeehaw 80, it's a great ale. That said, I have been absent from the aforementioned " special events ". ale n cider drinking leroy...

  20. I won't, but I don't think they are always highly publicized beforehand. Years ago, a friend took his daughter to Disney World during gay week. He had no idea it even existed and was horrified and asked for his money back, which he didn't get. I guess you could simply argue he shouldn't have taken his daughter there. My daughter is in no danger from a priest or pastor. But bashing anything religion-oriented is another fashionable phenonenon nowadays that is also curiously promoted by the same people pushing LGBTQ.

  21. If you don't want your kids to see that, don't take them. Claiming this legislation is for the children is oddly similar to the left claiming they want to ban weapons for the children. It's an attempt to make us all feel guilty if we don't agree. This had absolutely nothing to do with children. If our state legislature really cared about kids there are a lot of other topics they could have focused their efforts on. Your kids are likely in more danger from their local Priest/Pastor than anyone dressing up in drag. It's just sad that out of all the issues the legislature could be working on, this is what they chose. A solution to a non-existent problem.

A little bit easier access than a box under the seat but I also imagine anyone breaking into the car is going to open up the console lid and see the locked safe. https://www.consolevault.com/

I have an M1A SOCOM 16 Tanker that is awesome but the Scout is the best overall model of the M1A line for versatility and caliber performance (a true "compromise" in every fashion of the word, but one that works). I have several items for sale that need offloading. Once the capital is raised, I'm all over this.

  24. I own 8 houses, all built & maintained by myself with a mix of both styles. My primary residence, is a result of all that I had learned (and endured from failings). I have converted or am converting- as I continually add more rooms to the house: everything to concrete slab. I will use but a one room example to be atypically brief. Last year, a corner of my then waveless waterbed decided to penetrate the floor with a leg despite the floor being 2 layers of 3/4” treated plywood on 12” centered joists with multiple- really over built block supports. I also have a shower in that room that I built on it’s own isolated concrete slab. Thoroughly disgusted, I did my typical reaction to such things and cut out the floor and then the walls, converting them to treated 2x6 walls after getting a concrete pump truck to shoot in a 8-12” 4000 psi concrete slab. Never wanting to see deteriorating wood again (or deal with jacked up lumber prices) I then stoned BOTH the inside and outside of the walls, doubling the size of the bedroom in the process. The wife loves Game of Thrones, so I gave her a castle bedroom. Back to the slab as this may be of interest to you. 1- you can concrete anchor the walls down to a slab to make them tornado rated, 2- there are translucent acid concrete stains out there that will permanently make your slab look like any kind of marble or gemstone than you can imagine & the same companies make buff less, wipe-on waxes that make the floor look like deep crystal and super easy to clean/maintain. One last word on crawlspaces: they are the natural habitat of the brown recluse spider. There is no anti-venom to them and you can’t find a heat & air crew that doesn’t have severe scars from the bites. Who needs that? Lastly, with modern day PEX plumbing pipe, I have never encountered a burst pipe in a slab, that material is just incredible. I’ve converted my whole place to it. Best of luck.

  25. My mother almost always cooked her cornbread on the top of the stove in a cast iron skillet rather than in the oven. In summer it was too hot to turn the oven on and in general it cost more to heat the oven if cornbread is all you're cooking. she would cover the skillet for the first part of the cook, then use a dinner plate to slip under the half baked bread and quickly flip the bread over to cook on the other side leaving the lid off from this point on. Doing the flip is a bit tricky and I've never been able to master it. I know she always did it over the sink, just in case. The best thing about it was that you got two crunchy sides! The recipe on the back of the corn meal mix works fine if you leave out that damn sugar!

  26. Slabs are pretty popular these days if your lot will accommodate, and it's generally cheaper to build. Most spec builder neighborhoods are all on slabs. Most of the time these days supply lines are pex and often sleeved so a repair is not horrible. Drain lines don't usually cause a problem since there is no pressure. I've looked at a lot of houses and for a retirement home I might just go with a slab. I built 18 years ago and did crawl space and it has worked out well. Makes it easy to see all the mechanicals, you can add new wiring etc pretty easily, unless it's a belly crawl space. I would definitely go with slab if it's going to be a belly crawl height. Also with a slab there is no concern with potential mold and not too much to worry about with termites if you have the grade correctly set.

  31. Not too much of an expounder but you can find any amount of info on mercuric priming and the reasons to avoid it on the net. Corrosive is easy enough to clean in the gun barrel and can be done with anything with a bit of ammonia in it but you also need to take the action apart to clean as residue gets in there also . Truth is , the cases may already be too brittle . Age , priming and the powder can all damage brass . If you bought that lot of cartridges for the cost of brand new production 25-20 you could sell them to collectors for enough to buy at least two boxes of new for each one of the old even at todays inflated prices for the new. Those will not likely go cheap if they are well advertised. Good luck either way.

  34. Alleycat... The " whose moral compass " question is a great one. One can make the case that laws are not " moral decisions " at all; but are rules that society agrees on via the vote ( here, at least for the time being ) and enforces via the law to keep guardrails on society. I happen to think that there are, indeed, " moral compasses " within all of us, whether we believe so or not. Morality is a personal issue as I see it. You decide to do or not to do certain things; therefore; morality cannot be imposed or demanded within an individual; it's kinda like being pregnant, you are or you ain't; there is no continuum of in between choices. That is the reason for the " you can't legislate morality " speech. Morality is a personal choice. America is unique in that different views are tolerated, but there is consensus via " representative Gubt " as to what the rules are and a fair bit of compliance ( up to now ) as to the majority of citizens agreeing with n following those rules. The purpose of the law is to control behaviors within society, and to punish, remove, or eliminate those who do not comply ( in an ideal society ). It is the framework of agreed to rules under which that society operates. It keeps society orderly. In our society, representatives of our society choose these rules ( laws ). Within that number of " representatives" there are all kinds of folks... The whole spectrum of society. There will be freaks, fruits, fairies, guttersnipes, priests, preachers, jhadists, and folks of good will in their number. They will agree on and make into laws the rules our society enforces. Choose your " representatives" carefully, they are your voice. That is exactly why this " McNally " thing is so hot a topic. leroy... junior lecturer in morality and ethics.

  38. their borrowing limit is $100 billion from what a limited search found, which won't help much, if any, should one or more of the large banks fail. The balance of the FDIC insurance fund at YE 2022 was $128 billion. Simple math paints a bleak picture IMO. The FDIC usually sells the failed bank to another bank but SVB apparently has way too much in "toxic assets" and since the bank had NO asset liability/liquidity function for the past year, someone will have to cough very hard and pull the chain to flush. Unless the FDIC has changed it's procedures about selling a failed bank where the acquiring bank can cherry pick the assets/liabilities they want to acquire and the related terms and has become a bit more hard nosed about it, something will hit the fan in the not too distant future.

  42. I'm not sure what you mean by wrapping the pipes every winter? That's a one and done thing. I did mine 15 years ago. Frozen pipes are really only a concern if you lose power/heat. Opening or closing the vents takes 2 minutes. Frozen pipes are also possible with a slab if they're run in exterior walls. Yes, leaks in a slab require a jack hammer. Leaks in a crawlspace may rot the subfloor, but slab floors have a layer of insulation under the floor too.

  47. I'm in pretty good shape as far as primers go for the next several years. BUT, as with most of us that handload, I don't want to run out. So, I've been following various forums and have seen these primers mentioned (sold through the Norma website). Several folks have posted that they have ordered these with free shipping and no Hazmat. Sounded too good to be true. So I continued to watch and wait. I kept reading about positive experiences both as regards the primers and the no Hazmat/free shipping. Then a 20% discount code popped up. I thought, well I've never paid $60.00/1000 primers before. I only paid $27.00/K for the last I ordered pre-Covid. But figured "What the heck" So I logged onto the Norma site and ordered 3000 primers for $180.00....total. I received shipping notice and FedEx delivered the primers 4 days later. I had read that the primers worked well, just that they needed to be fully seated. I loaded up 40 rounds of 9mm... 20 using my old Dillon 550 to seat the primers and 20 using my RCBS hand priming tool. Next I loaded 40 rounds of .38 spl full wadcutters. 20 rounds using the RCBS and 20 rounds using my single stage Lee press. Finally I loaded up 20 rounds of .32 S&W longs. All using the Lee single stage press. I took my G-19, S&W Shield in 9mm, LCR in .38 spl, my S&W Model 15 (.38 spl) and my LCR in .327 mag (.32 S&W loads) over to Range USA this morning. Only one round required a second strike. This was a 9mm in my stock factory innards Glock 19. And it was a Dillon seated primer. So, one round out of 100 required a second strike. I have no complaints... well, except I wish the price would come down more...but don't we all. FYI.. these primers sold out the day I ordered. But from what I read on various forums Norma runs this deal from time to time. Just thought I'd share some, to me anyway, good news. I normally only shoot my G19 and .38 LCR each week. But I sacrificed all the darn cleaning I still have to do so I could share this info with you folks.
