Picked this up a couple of months ago to see what the hype with the brand was all about and put about 100 rounds through it. It's a perfectly functional 1911, turns out I just don't want to stock yet another caliber for only one gun. The gun itself is the "upgraded" 1911A1 version with better sights and a commander's ring hammer instead of the standard spur. Comes with an actually pretty nice hard case, two mags, takedown tool, and other little bits and bobs inside. $350 FTF in the Nashville area, no trades please. Edit: I will also be traveling to Memphis 3/14-15 if anyone around there is interested.3 points

Garufa, what a kind and generous comment. I humbly thank you. I make cornbread today, A LOT, because it does bring me enjoyment. The memory of growing up in a house in Chattanooga so cold my mother and I sat in the kitchen on winter nights using the oven to heat us before we ran as fast as we could to the back bedroom to jump under covers so heavy you thought they would smother you. But so WARM! I made a pot of pinto beans last week and a cake of cornbread along with some turnip greens from the freezer. As my wife and I ate I told her stories of my mother and my youth, and we smiled. And I shed a few tears. There was a simplicity then that I miss today. Life was not "us against them"; didn't matter who was Democrat or Republican; we just wondered how they were doing with their burdens and prayed for them Yes, there are smiles when I think of my past and how at 67 years of age, I find great meaning. So for Mom's recipe, here's the best I replicate: 2 cups of stone ground cornmeal - white or yellow; whatever we could get 1 tsp. of soda and baking powder 1 tsp. salt 2 eggs Buttermilk - as much as was needed to make the mix not too thin, but pourable Bacon grease - LOTS of bacon grease; for the pan and the recipe Mom would get the bacon grease so hot in the skillet in the oven (400 degrees) and she would add a little bit of Crisco or Hormel lard. When she opened the oven and threw a few drops of water in the skillet that it popped loudly, she would bring out the skillet with all the grease and pour it into the cornmeal batter. You knew it was enough and right when it sizzled loudly! Mom would mix it up, pour it back into the skillet and put it all back in the oven for about 45 minutes. Because the iron skillet was perfectly seasoned the cake of bread would plop out perfectly and I'd have to wait for it to cool before Mom would cut a slice and split it with butter. And from that moment, absolute heaven in your mouth. I am shedding a tear or two as I write this. Mom died in 2017 and to recall her cornbread with all of you brings me great joy. Thank you . . .3 points

I'm curious about those as well. I'm thinking I might buy one just for S&G. But the only one I've seen was a Girsan at a gun show. Seemed to be pretty well made, but It was FDE color which I didn't like, so I passed. Oh well, I've got 4 versions of the HP as it is. Don't really need any more.3 points

1/2 cup unsalted butter melted or bacon grease 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup yellow cornmeal or polenta 1 tablespoon sugar (optional - doesn’t make it sweet) 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 cup buttermilk 2 large eggs This is for your big cast iron. Half it and use a smaller 6” cast iron. Buttermilk is the key ingredient. If I’m being particular- use King Arthur all purpose flour and the best cornmeal you can find. Pro tip - stick your cast iron in the oven and melt your butter in the cast iron. Pour the rest of your batter over it once hot. Don’t mix it. You’ll get a great crust that way. Made this the other evening along with a big pot of red beans and rice for several homeless guys. Several mentioned that it was the best meal they’d had all season. There is joy in good simplicity.2 points

I love cornbread. When I was a child and very, very poor, Mama would make cakes of it. For breakfast crumbled up with milk and sugar. At supper to sop up gravy. And dessert, Karo syrup and butter with cornbread. Good stuff . . . Thank you all and God bless you for the memory.2 points

10" cast iron skillet, oven at 425F. 1.5 cup buttermilk or whole milk 2 eggs, 2 tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/4 cup melted butter 2 cups fresh ground corn meal Melt the butter in the skillet on the stove top, which also warms and greases the skillet. Mix everything except the corn meal and butter. Then add the corn meal, then the butter. Pour into the skillet and bake for 30 mins or until its done in the middle. Gluten free. And yes, we have a grinder and make our own cornmeal.2 points

Much ado about nothing. The new code simply says you bought something at a sporting goods store. It does not specify what you bought and certainly can't be used to trace guns. Such codes have been used for years for everything from hardware to groceries. Its a simple market tracking tool. Nothing more. Always remember that the pro-2nd groups want your money and aren't above using scare tactics to get it. To them, everything is a threat.2 points

Reason I say riding on the shoulder is a bad idea is mainly because that’s where all the trash and debris that causes flat tires ends up. You are well aware of how much fun a flat motorcycle tire is I’m sure.2 points

I'm literally open to any suggestions. I've had a bunch of fun, the last few months, bringing a few old rifles back to life. A couple of old 1930s Husqvarnas, a knackered old Remington a cut-down K98 & I'm presently working on the world's (previously) UGLIEST Carcano bubba-job. Turns out, that working on projects like this, along with working on getting my bike how I want it, are really helping my depression. I went from a lifetime of building things, to working a job for the last 14 years that whilst enjoyable, doesn't have the same sense of satisfaction as starting with nothing & finishing with a useful product. So I'm looking for old, disused, manky, rusty old rifles i can, if not restore, then at least refinish & remodel into working, things. Previously "sporterized" are preferable, that way I won't be accidentally devaluing a collectible piece. When I'm done with them, I'll offer them back to the original seller for whatever i pay, plus whatever actual parts I need to source (with receipts). My time will be free. If the original seller doesn't want it back, I'll either keep it or offer it up on the open market for an extra, say, $50? I'm 100% NOT trying to make any money, not trying to be or learn to be a gunsmith, I'm just looking for the sense of satisfacion of making at least a polycotton blend purse from a sow's ear I really don't want to spend tons, probably $300 max & old & rusty would be preferred over modern & just broken.1 point

Mmmkay.... but your gonna need to gimme some measurements here. I ADORE Mexican cornbread (especially with taco seaoning & a little bacon crumbled up in the batter) but the only recipes I've ever found for home made (or the packet stuff) contain flour & being a genetic failure, I can't eat gluten. I really need to find a cornmeal only recipe using cream corn & jalapenos.1 point

Many of our favorite and best foods originated with necessity. I hope you can now savor the simplicity of cornbread with enjoyment rather than need.1 point

After riding in CA for 35+ years before moving here, I miss that aspect the most. It mitigates traffic, but you nailed the main opposition. You could see the cagers fuming when you looked back in your mirrors at lights, some even yelling at their windshields. The biggest danger I see would be those that had no idea of it becoming legal (if by miracle it passed), then feel its their duty as a traffic vigilante to do something about it. Even in CA you'd get the occasional chucklehead who didn't know who would swerve over at you or jump out of his car to scream at you. Too true. Riders are all stereotyped as 'bikers', no help from the media who likes to propagate the stereotype. I see it very similar to how gun owners are perceived by non gun owning people who are easily made to support anti-gunners. Gun owner and a rider? Man, what bad seeds are we.1 point
-
The courts largely consider motorcyclists 2nd class citizens. There are plenty of instances where drivers got minimal penalties where a rider was hurt or killed. I've never understood the precedent, but it exists.1 point

Back in the 90s I used to commute from near Woodbury to Nashville on a '78 Suzuki GS1000L. It was my only vehicle for about a year. More than once when it was very cold I'd get caught in heavy traffic and an unexpected rain, so I rode the shoulder past traffic between exits. I won't lie, it was kind of scared of hitting debris on the shoulder that I couldn't see thru my wet visor, but I was more terrified of all the oil washing off the lanes and onto the shoulder. Thankfully I never had a wreck even in the snow.1 point

I hate helmet laws, although you’ll never see me on a bike without one. Lane splitting is a very bad idea in my mind. So is riding on the shoulder.1 point
-
A few years ago they had a bill to allow us to use the shoulder on the interstate in cases of traffic Jams. It failed but I liked the bill.1 point

But to what extent do CNN, MSNBC, and Fox truly only shill for themselves? Their main goal is to get you outraged about something, which in turn means you come back for more, same bat time, same bat channel. It's not about red vs blue but rather green, green, green baby.1 point
-
TN legislature is considering two new proposals: One, HB0042/SB1450 , will allow motorcyclists to ride without helmets, with some exceptions. The other, SB0298/HB1454, will allow lane splitting (or filtering). I first started riding on the street in California in the early 70's, where helmets were not required and lane-splitting was legal. I'm old now, and more cautious, and I personally would not ride on the street without a helmet, but I think that those who want to should be allowed. I REALLY like the idea of legal lane-splitting, which makes a lot of sense to me. I think the main opposition to lane splitting is that some people hate to see motorcyclists get to move a little more freely. If you ride, check out the proposals.1 point

Look, I am going to give these folks the benefit of the doubt because I've been a customer and I got to spend about two hours with Bob Allen talking about a variety of topics for a podcast in the past and found him to be incredibly knowledgeable, professional and squared away. He's not some Paul Blart Mall Cop type. The media isn't exactly known for quoting things accurately OR in context, nor are they known for being favorable toward gun ownership issues. So bear those things in mind before we start piling onto the bandwagon.1 point

Those were some pretty remarkable comments made by the ‘training director’. Subverting responsibility, and treating the like is just one of those things that happen beyond their control. He doesn’t seem to understand it’s a refection of his attitude and poor practices. Two key item he said compared to what we all know we’d do: WSMV4 asked Allen if it is the responsibility of the employees to check the gun before handing it the customer. “Sometimes yet, but sometimes it happens before the employees can stop them,” Allen said. The right answer: Yes. Always yes “when you deal with deadly force tools in your hands a lot, unfortunately every now and then something like that happens,” Allen said. “We are just trying to minimize this happening ever again.” How about: Prevent this happening ever again. When you resign yourself to safety is just a nice thing to have if you have time to be bothered to remember and that personal responsibility is beyond your control…you get what you get. Got to hand it to this guy for having the nards to be quoted saying, well…guns…sh@t happens, what the hell do you expect me to do about it.1 point

Sounds like a girl I knew once... This AD is the kind of reason I drop the mag and clear the chamber on every gun I am handed in a store. Plus, I still NEVER pull the trigger even on an unloaded gun there. This one sounds like everyone got lucky. Someone could have taken one to the chest instead of the floor.1 point
