I’ve been retired for a little over three years now. Time still goes by extremely fast. I try as much as humanly possible to avoid stress while attempting to remain positive about everything. Life is truly short and working is overrated. I guess the only negative to retiring somewhat early is that everyone I enjoy spending time with still works. I don’t get lonely, because I’m an introvert, but I’d like it if more friends and family had this freedom. Anyway, besides guns I also enjoy flying my DJI drone, goofing around with my Traxxas rc 4x4, online poker, news, history, driving my Teryx sxs, military and civilian flight simulation and most importantly, quiet time. I’m looking forward to spring, because I really enjoy swimming. Swimming really helps with my arthritis. I’m a home body, but I travel internationally only because my wife loves to travel. The benefit of traveling outside of the country is seeing historic landmarks and enjoying native culture. Thanks for reading and feel free to share anything that brings you peace of mind and pleasure.3 points

Parker VHE in excellent condition. Amazing barrels and bores. Choked full/full and 30in barrels. Untouched screws, and wood is great. Few small nicks in the stock but nothing bad, especially for 100 years old. 2 3/4 in chambers. Great overall birds, clays, or collector piece. Could maybe do partial trades for a A400xcel or possibly a 28g. asking $27503 points

I'm boring and do what most people do I think Jeeper - So parts and light offroading (still paying for it) Firearms - Obviously. I really enjoy refinishing old military issue firearms. The more cosmo, the better. IT stuff - gaming, tech, etc. Though because i've seen behind the curtain for 19 years, I don't do IoT devices Traveling - specifically in the jeep. Just... getting out into the woods or backroads i've never driven Church - Whatever is needed, whenever it's need. We do a lot of community assistance. I may be on a mission trip soon Cars in general - I like to tinker. I would love to restore one. Maybe restomod, but i need a larger garage first I picture myself traveling a bit but ultimately I want 20 acres of woods, a one story house for the wife myself. That way I can leave it to the kids when it's time. But the big thing for me is going to be volunteer work I think. Finding some way to pay it forward because I've learned so much in this life already that I can give to others. Whatever I do, I would like it too lead to a headstone that says....."he was a pretty good dude".3 points

I wrote this response 2-3 times, trying not to sound preachy. I don't think I'll achieve that here, but here goes 1. 99% of IoT devices are imported junk with no business on your wifi. There are no controls around this stuff and how secure it is. Even major players like Samsung have been found to have some sketchy stuff in their smart TVs. How much should we trust XaoBing "branded" LED light strips that hook into our wifi? There are no task forces out there monitoring what kind of chips are put in these devices or where they're shipping off data. 2. Anything with a mic is recording. Anything with a camera is recording or snapping pictures. Period. 3. The developers who write the code for most of these devices are being pushed by a business to get it out the door ASAP! You can thank Microsoft for the iterative deployment methodology (release unfinished, fix it later.. presumably). 4. There are been quite a few attacks on US infrastructure from IoT botnets. About 5 years ago, the entire eastern half of the US couldn't get to the internet for several hours because there was an army of thermostats, lightbulbs, etc all attacking the DNS servers in the East. 5. Even if the device comes from a major provider with a dedicated Cyber Security division (and don't hate on me cyber guys), but most of them suck. Sure, there are some white/grey hats out there doing God's work... but most of these people only do paperwork and talk about controls, mitigation, etc. Half of them don't even understand the tech they're supposed to oversee. There's just a policy that says... hackers should not hack us, so.... we're good. Legal approves. 6. Most companies will get away with whatever they want until they are caught. Look at facebook. They're quite literally watching EVERYTHING you do online. Finally, someone will realize "hhey, you're taking my <whatever>" and sue. Then they'll just settle and put that in their 500 page Eula for no one to read. 7. Lastly, on a different note. The older I get, the less tech I want. I think it's making people soft. The day I retire, my phone is going right into a pond.... well, cept youtube i guess. Otherwise i couldn't fix a car. </rantoff>2 points

Last Sunday I got out for the first time this year. Went out to my friends house to tinker with my NV and thermal scopes. We ended up heading across the road to another farm and called this coyote and another one that didn’t stick around. 3” TSS load dropped this one as he was coming straight up the ridge to me, the call was between me and the coyote. Shot was at about 35/36 yards and he dropped like a sack of potatoes. I love rifle shooting and field hunting, but shotguns in the woods is a whole different level of excitement. Hoping to get out again tomorrow if things go right.2 points

I enjoy working on my vehicles. Until 5 years ago I had never changed my own oil. Last weekend I replaced my lower control arms on my truck. It took me 8 hours but I enjoyed the challenge. Still not sure I'm brave enough to attempt the timing belt. I bought an electric dirt bike last year that I've enjoyed riding and also working on it. My wife and I enjoy traveling (her more than me). Last year we went to Spain. This year we're going to Finland and Estonia. I also enjoy working on my house. I'm trying to work up the motivation to lay tile.2 points

I find myself reading all news networks. There isn't "one you can trust", even with local news. The spin is always there so if it's a topic i feel heavily about, i read as many places as i can to decide. Now, that's far and few between because i find that my life and happiness improve SIGNIFICANTLY by not turning on the news at all.2 points

I understand Brother... Been retired for 17 years. I love outdoor photography and do it alot. I enjoy being outdoors. I also volunteer a bit at church. The most important thing is not to get sad n depressed. I watched my older brother decide he was worthless because he retired. He is now gone home. My advice; hunt several things ya like n go do em. Buddy around with your buddies as ya can. Quit worrying about age and enjoy... leroy... 76 year old kid n loading specialist.2 points

I carry a ALOX Farmer everyday of the week. I also have a couple of ALOX Soldiers ((Wenger and Vic), a Tinker, Tourist and Champion, as well as a Wenger Locking SAK. It's name escapes me, but it's blue. I favorites are the Farmer and the either of the Soldiers, followed by the Tinker. I never carry the Champion. It's just too big.2 points

I just might! Definitely going to have to get a shoulder holster for it! Just like Bond!2 points

I stole this idea from a guy named Felix Immler on YouTube. I mounted a bubble level in the scale of my Victorinox Ranger. I'll probably never need to see if something is level with my SAK, but it's always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Any SAK fans here? Got any cool tips, tricks, or suggestions for Swiss Army Knives? Got a favorite model?1 point

I might have made a huge mistake, boys. Could lead to a divorce. I stopped in my LGS (Crossroads Guns, in Fountain City), for some HV .22LR for my Stoeger Luger. I walked out with the .22 rounds and after putting a Walther PPK/s in lay-a-way. It’s a beaut, a Interarms Stainless steel pistol, with both mags, box, manuals cleaning rod... all for 5 bills plus tax and BCG. Lay-a-way for 12 months! Oh Lord, what have I done??? Looks like this!1 point

That Champion is pretty wide. I don't think I'd carry it either, but it sure would be handy in a backpack or glovebox.1 point

I'm married with kids and I work for a living do my primary hobby is sleeping. When I'm not doing that.... I like to ride my motorcycle, play guitar, ride my bicycle, coach my kids sports teams, and I dabble in photography. I also do most of my vehicle maintenance.... spent most of yesterday helping a buddy try to get the big block in his truck running. It's got carb issues we weren't able to solve. I'd like to think I still shoot and collect guns, but there's not much time or money for that these days.1 point

Changing my own oil is something I've never done, which is crazy when I think about it because I do almost everything around the house myself, including other car/truck stuff. My neighbor borrowed my strap wrench (that I bought for a plumbing project) yesterday to change his oil, and I thought to myself that I'm going to change my own oil next time. Definitely need to start doing this myself!1 point

I am going with the pick up a correct spring/buffer combo and trial that others have mentioned. Not sure about your area, but I know at least 3 shops here in the middle/north part of the state that has them in stock.1 point

Thanks for that. Pretty much confirms all the things I’ve always wondered. I was actually considering ditching all of my IoT stuff yesterday but mainly because when the power blinks, all of my smart lights turn on and wake me up. The settings are supposed to revert back to the prior state before an outage but they don’t. I guess they need to be on so they can report back when the power grid is back up………1 point

I’d love to hear more on this. Maybe in PM to not derail the thread. If you are willing. Apart from guns, I like playing guitar and am just starting out with amateur photography. I’ve bought some nice photography gear that is a couple years old and “outdated”.1 point

If bad or you do not wish to chance it, powder makes a pretty good fertilizer. Bad smell or powder discolored means it is bad. Try a couple of low powered reloads.1 point

Thanks for the review.In today’s market I’d gladly pay $160 for 3K primers.1 point

Welcome to East Tennessee. Honestly, as long as you are in the right in a shooting, the odds of you being tried and convicted are very low. LE and the Justice System aren't that way at all, around here. Nashville and Memphis are the areas you probably have to worry more about such a thing happening. Many years ago, here in Knox County, a man shot and killed a Peeping Tom, he had caught looking in the window at his teenage daughter, as she was undressing. The DA took it to the grand jury, because he shot the Peeping Tom in the back, as he was running away. The Grand Jury rejected the DA's argument, even though he shot the guy in the back. The DA didn't try that again.1 point

Thank you all! She's beautiful pistol, but a rather snappy shooting little thing and not a lot of fun over an extended range session. I've found every .380 that I've have every owned to be that way, but my Ruger LCP Max. She is deadly accurate though. The test fire target is in the box too and it's not a lie. So far she's ate everything I've fed, but that's mostly FMJ and some 80 Gr Legend Copper HPs. I do waffle back and forth about selling her, when I get the fever for a S&W revolver. And right now, I have the fever. But I am resisting mightily. I think there are going to be a couple of other pistols that might end up getting sold or traded, instead.1 point

I'm sorry if what I wrote wasn't clear about the buffers. If I was doing this, I'd start with a new, standard AR carbine buffer and spring. NOT a modified buffer and spring, just to eliminate variables. These can be purchased from Brownells (or where ever) for about $30 total (about $17 for a standard carbine buffer & $9 for a standard carbine spring). I'd try the standard buffer & spring first. If it gave me the results I wanted (which it does in my 20" rifle with the UBR stock), then I'm done. If the standard buffer/spring combo didn't get me the results I wanted, then I'd buy the tungsten 3 weights for about $30. Try out the 1-tungsten, 2-steel (H); 2-tungsten, 1-steel (H2), etc. I'd be able to assemble & test the whole range of Standard, H, H2 & H3 buffer weights for about $50. I would be shocked if I couldn't find at least one of those 4 buffer weight choices (with a standard carbine spring) that worked well for me. The JP works great, no spring noise. Easy to install, remove, clean. I just have the standard weights/spring and use it with a 16" barrel, mid-gas upper. Have less than 1,000 rounds through that rifle, so I can't comment on the durability. I use it in a "What Would Stoner Do" KP-15 polymer lower because of the cumbersome way the buffer is normally retained with a roll pin in those lowers. Just got it on sale to see what it was like. It's nice, but I'm not convinced its worth the extra expense unless you have a special circumstance.1 point

I still have many many years before I can retire, but i find day hikes relieve any stress/anxiety and relaxes the mind. There are plenty of easy trails within a hour of your home to try (I'm in the same area). It should help some with the arthritis too.1 point

I agree with the sniff test. Discoloration may also be an indicator. I think a lot depends on how the powder was stored. I have a partial can of Hercules 2400 I purchased in the early 1990's and used it to load some .357 late last year. Worked fine and chronoed the same as previous loads from long ago. But my powder has been stored in a climate controlled environment all that time. I'm glad the gear went to someone that will appreciate it and put it to good use.1 point

Pretty much any of the big holster makers should have something you'll like. If you want custom, I highly recommend G.B. Leather in Dover, TN. George does outstanding work. His prices are reasonable and delivery is generally pretty quick. George is also a very nice guy. He's made several holsters for me and I've been very pleased. https://gbleatherco.com/1 point

I collect things relative to the life of General George S. Patton, Jr. I used to live on eBay buying stuff! All the good stuff is gone so nothing left to buy which broke me of the habit! Helpful statement from the people at PCH about buying things to help win: https://info.pch.com/myth-vs-fact/ I once had a client (I am a mental health therapist) that came to me because she was literally addicted to buying stuff on QVC. Took time for her to regain her self-control.1 point
