I spent my first 32 years in Sevierville, worked in Pigeon Forge in the mid to late 80s, graduated HS from there, and thought it was the best place to live, but ignorance to tourons was bliss. Fast forward, I had to leave the area for good paying work, not a lot of good paying jobs, tons of jobs though, but nothing to raise a family on and have disposable income left over, that decision was ~25 years ago. I would not live there today or retire there! I do still feel like Sevier county is my home though due to my connections and up bringing. My wife is not originally from there, but still loves the Dollywood thing, she still goes 5-7 times a year, and she does drag me to DW a couple of times per year. We still have ways to navigate the backroads to avoid the traffic. PSA: In the summer months, go to the attractions on Sunday afternoons and evenings, that is when the tourons are transitioning in/out. DW is virtually vacant on Sunday after 3pm, and the Aquarium is like a ghost town after 6pm on Sunday evenings as well, they close at 10pm. Learn to use the trolleys, that is the best way to get around. There is no good time to go the restaurants, but I highly recommend Carver's restaurant in Cosby, its very much like the Apple Barn but for a lot less money, almost same menu (I know of the former chef connection). Its about 25 min from Gatlinburg on 321. Since that area was originally my home, I have lots of family there from both sides, so I do have to visit the area occasionally. I still like to go RV camping at the Greenbrier Island campground once per year between Gatlinburg and Cosby, but I pull my 5th wheel camper through Cosby off of 40, never no traffic. If you must visit Gatlinburg, and you do not want go through the Sevierville 407 traffic and Pigeon Forge, I do recommend the Wilton Springs exit on 40, I think its exit 440, that is about 30 min from Gatlinburg, and no traffic. The only traffic you will encounter is when 321 and 441 meet up in downtown Gatlinburg. If you truly want to see the Smokies, follow my Cosby suggestion or try the North Carolina side, Cherokee or Fontana. Otherwise blend end with the tourons and have patience.3 points

I've had a tainted opinion of Taurus for a good amount of time. I've never discounted the brand completely, but I came to the conclusion that of 2 guns coming off of the same line, one may be great and they other junk. I was also gifted a Taurus Judge. Well, it ain't no S&W, and being gifted one, is about the only way I would own one. Certainly not a purchase I would make on my own. After several people telling me they liked the TX22, I picked one up. I have a small range in the back yard and spend a good amount of time plinking with .22s. I was impressed with it out of the box and it was consistently getting chosen over my other pistols for range time. I decided to put a reflex sight on it in hopes that my wife and daughter might like it and shoot with me more . Well, that made it even more fun. So I have less than $400, in this one and it's by far one of my favorites. If you are on the fence, go get one of these!3 points

I have this set of 6 stag handle, "razor's edge" case knives from the 1970's. Never cut or carried. Factory edges, no rust or tarnish. $600 for the set. I'd consider piecing them out for the right prices. I have a few other old case folders from the same era in stag and bone handles. I'm in Chattanooga but I travel to Nashville and Knoxville weekly. Or, I'd be happy to mail them to you.2 points

I expect hell is a lot like Gatlinburg. If you go back, give Townsend a try. Drive through “The Tail of the Dragon” and look around. The Smokies is a beautiful place.2 points

I am less than an hour away and avoid that area. It is not my idea of fun.2 points

I agree, i am close too and the place is a joke really. I also heard they are going to charge to park in the national park area soon. The history and the mountains are beautiful but all the crap along the way is just too much. Good revenue for sevier county but i'm not a fan of all of it. Also if you go to a car show up there, be prepared to sit in 3 hours of traffic and they are nothing like they used to be.2 points

I agree. I never visit either and I'm only an hour away or less. When we go hiking we avoid the national park and pick lesser known trails in other counties.2 points

Hey folks, went for a drive out to Gatlinburg this weekend since I had never been that far east being fairly new to Tn, and man that was a let down. How and the heck did it become that much of a tourist mess? Seems like a way better way to represent the area would be to show off the history. Anyways just chit chatting I guess. Love exploring great history if you have any ideas. Thanks.1 point

I'm needing one more Sig P226 to complete the set. Not a set of all P226s, but a set of all the ones I want. What I want is a good condition P226 9mm with no rail and with a solid slide. Preferably it would have the short extractor also, but that's not a requirement. There are some German-frame guns that meet that standard, plus the early P226 Navy versions, and some others as well. Don't you have one lying around that you don't shoot any more? EDITED TO ADD: No longer looking for another P226 but I'm leaving this thread here since the photos below of the two slide types might be useful to someone. Thanks, Whisper1 point

Same here. The traffic is usually horrible. It does have a few redeeming qualities.... eat breakfast at the Pancake Pantry, then find a bench for people watching while you digest, then get stop by the Donut Fryer on the way home. The aquarium is nice too, but its gotten expensive and you have to go during the week.1 point

I have a brother that lives in Maryville, He does not go there, lived in the area most of 40 years now and knows a few way to get around some of the mess to take me to the big gun shops when I visit. The place is what it is, a tourist mecca, money making place. Nashville in the warmer weather is a mess as well, down town can take 45 mins to go just 4 blocks on Broadway. I would not surprise me one bit if the city closes the roads at times to let more people walk the in the streets, here in Nashville and up there in Gatlinburg.1 point

Last Ford Show I went to was in early 2000s It was a mess even then. Could get around better on foot than in a vehicle. Even the crowd was bad that year. Almost elbow to elbow walking down the streets. I haven't been back since a trip to SMGW a few years ago.1 point

As the General Assembly moves forward, the strangle hold of those who live to deny the rights and privileges contained in the Constitutions of the State and Union are about their sinister work. Failure to stand up and be heard is the sustenance that feeds that monster. Those of us who portend to be supporters of the 2nd Amendment spend hours typing and snipping at each other on forums, yet how many actually avail themselves of the Opportunities to act on their charge to "instruct their representatives" as levied in Article 1 Section 23 of our State Constitution? The Senate has mandated that every 2nd Amendment bill be heard in Judiciary March 7th. This mandated by Chairman Gardenhire, (who by the way will again this year, champion and sponsor the attempt to give the children of illegals a huge tax break via offering them in-state tuition to our colleges and universities). It is his desire to General Sub (kill) as many 2nd Amendment issues as possible by this tactic. Know full well that the House will have trouble getting these bills moving in the respective committees in that chamber by that time and the "will" of the Senate is to consider nothing that is not moving in the House when it is put on notice in the Senate. If there is not an outcry of disapproval from the true masters of government (The People) they will once again shred the ability to enjoy the true rights and privileges contained in our Constitutions, but that of the State and Union, we have no one to blame but ourselves. If you snooze, you loose. If an issue is killed this year, it is dead next as well.1 point

I have a Dakota Alert system, mine is an older version, only 1/4 mile transmit range. It works great for us. Here is a link for a newer model, 1 mile transmit range. Yes it is a bit of money. https://www.amazon.com/Dakota-Alert-DCPA-4000-Wireless-Driveway/dp/B07PDZPF31/ref=asc_df_B07PDZPF31?tag=bngsmtphsnus-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80814222102124&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584413750059758&psc=11 point

I don’t have a security system, but otherwise, I’ve been there. I was awakened in the middle of the night to a thunderous banging sound. I wasn’t good and awake, and had no idea what had fallen, or what was going on. Finally woke up enough to grab a gun and go check things out. I looked the entire house over two or three times before I discovered where some meth head had tried to kick in the garage door to the basement. As I live in a quite rural area, I had no idea where he’d come from nor where he went. I decided it was best to not go off down the hollow in the night looking for trouble. I installed a Ring camera/floodlight over the basement door in place of an existing floodlight. If something similar ever happens again, I’ll be alerted on might phone as well as have video footage of who it was. Personally, I’m not a big fan of audible alarms. I’d prefer to have the element of surprise on my side in such a situation.1 point

While I fully support being a member of other 2nd Amendment organizations and strongly encourage it, don't abandon the NRA. They still have clout and name recognition and those count in this fight. I still pay my dues, but don't give NRA one single cent extra. Hopefully, they will come through this a much better organization. But the key is LaPierre must step down for any real change to happen. I'm still hopeful. I strongly encourage every member of this board to join other pro 2nd groups as well. Especially the Tennessee Firearms Association which is on the front lines right here in our state and doing a great job.1 point

Im a life member of the NRA, but the last three or four years I have been a member of GOA. And if they keep their No Surrender attitude, I will continue being a member.1 point
