I thought I would share a little win I had today. I went to a LGS here in Knoxville and looked through the discount orphan magazine bin. I found a S&W 1911 8rd for $9, and an original old stock Mini 14 40 rd for $20. I’ve been married 35 years- it’s the little things that keep me going.6 points

Thanks for all the kind words!! I knew you guys would get it! It was overturned today!! I actually called (even though I know they aren’t supposed to tell me anything!) and got this really sweet woman. I told her I’d pulled my own Toris and there was nothing that should prohibit me. She asked what I saw and I told her. She was like “oh yea, that’s the problem!” It was a misdemeanor (and not one that would prohibit me) but had no outcome attached apparently. She told me to send copies of the judgement and stuff. But before I could even get to the courthouse it was already overturned and the FFL was calling me!! I have to wonder how many people get denied over things that aren’t a prohibitor and just give up because of the embarrassment and hassle! The FFL said it happens a lot! I’m glad to be here and thanks for being so kind!!5 points

Nice Henry in the coveted 45-70. Less than 20rds through it. May have some light handling marks from entry and exit of safe. But the pics do it justice. Comes with 24rds of ammo and Plano type case. Must be legal to own. FOR SALE OR TRADE $950. Text is fastest for me. 615-504-1491. Will send more pics and 4k video of entire rifle. Won’t let me upload them here.4 points

You can clearly see the Aim-9 missile leaving the jet, then impact near the antennas. My beliefs concerning this incident are more in line with these two takes I found online. Also, DOD mentioned that they were able obscure or relocate assets in the balloon’s path. Intelligence gathering seems to be the most logical reason for allowing the balloon drift across the country after assessing it posed no imminent threat to the country.3 points
-
One could argue that China has already released a bio agent that has not only disrupted the US economy and culture, but that of the entire planet. Popping a ballon is not going to change that. They already know our resources and readiness, they are simply trying to show dominance.3 points

I don’t have a security system, but otherwise, I’ve been there. I was awakened in the middle of the night to a thunderous banging sound. I wasn’t good and awake, and had no idea what had fallen, or what was going on. Finally woke up enough to grab a gun and go check things out. I looked the entire house over two or three times before I discovered where some meth head had tried to kick in the garage door to the basement. As I live in a quite rural area, I had no idea where he’d come from nor where he went. I decided it was best to not go off down the hollow in the night looking for trouble. I installed a Ring camera/floodlight over the basement door in place of an existing floodlight. If something similar ever happens again, I’ll be alerted on might phone as well as have video footage of who it was. Personally, I’m not a big fan of audible alarms. I’d prefer to have the element of surprise on my side in such a situation.2 points

Perhaps it really did accidentally end up over the US. Or possibly a belligerent Chinese government is just thumbing its nose at an incompetent American one. My dad was on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific in the early 60s. He said they would do a bunch of launch and recovery and turn every electrical gadget on full blast and then run wide open toward the Russian coast a couple hundred miles out and then go ice cold stone silent. They weren't even allowed to use an electric razor. The Russians would freak out and send half the Soviet navy out to figure out where the American carrier went. The Russians played the same game off the California coast. The balloon thing strikes me as the grandchild of this geopolitical UNO the Navy used to play (and I'm sure still do), except China"s intentions may be a little different.2 points

“It’s been done this way for years” should not be a defense. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the worst arguments I can think of. I understand what you are saying and where you are coming from but that doesn’t make it right and doesn’t mean that we should continue functioning that way.2 points

Nope, they wanted us to see it. That's the whole point. They got away with it.2 points

At least with Prohibition, We The People got to vote on it. It was approved by voters in 36 states, before Congress enacted the 18th Amendment. This crap is just a bureaucratic power grab, by the ATF. And driven by the greedy powers that be in DC, that are scared of We The People.2 points

It’s definitely a provocation, but I don’t think it’s a show of superiority. I’d be most concerned about the dispersion of bio weapons. China knows how trigger happy we are, and the urge to shoot it down is irresistible, thus sealing our own fate.2 points

It is a provocation. An annoying display of superiority not only of will and resources but an overwhelming desire to prove such.2 points

Actually it should have shot down over the ocean as it approached the Alaskan coast.2 points

Actually our government has known about this since shortly after it launched in China. The payload package is what's the size of 3 buses. The thing should have been shot down when it was still over Montana or Wyoming and over unpopulated areas. Now they've done messed around and they may have to wait until it crosses out into the Atlantic before its safe to kill it. Who knows what information it can collect and send back to China by then? This is a major embarrassment for the U.S. in the eyes of the whole world. How the Hell could our government let this happen?2 points

According to the report, Baldwin missed the mandatory on-set firearms safety briefing. Then when he was getting a private safety briefing, he spent most of the time on his phone and not paying attention. He should never have been allowed to hold a gun. The production was plagued with safety issues all along to the point that some of the crew quit. The State of New Mexico has already heavily fined the production for numerous safety violations. From the DA: "The filing comes nearly two weeks after she first announced that Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed would be prosecuted for what authorities have described as a pattern of criminal disregard for safety. " The assistant Producer that actually handed Baldwin the gun struck a plea deal and avoided charges. In total, 3 people handled that gun and none of them properly checked it. In short: Baldwin thought he was too big a star to bother with the little things. That arrogance got someone killed.2 points

If you read the law on Involuntary Manslaughter as to what that consists of, Baldwin should have been charged. Firearms, considered as dangerous instruments by their nature, are more subject to a charge of involuntary manslaughter by negligence than someone who fell on an upturned rake left negligently by the owner on a pathway. Firearms, rightly so, require the utmost consideration by the owner, shooter, or handler. The failures of both the armorer and Baldwin led to death and great bodily injury through negligence hence the charge.2 points

All due respect. Spinning failures into successes is an obvious play to hide impotence resulting from failure to act in a timely manner. Its pointless to ask what possible intel was gleaned when they proved this was not the mission when they destroyed the evidence. They won this game of chicken. Shooting it down after the fact is simply trying to save face. Its the equivalent of throwing up some new gun legislation to appease the massing screaming 'do something' because its the new media darling. As @gregintenn said earlier, the truth will not be had here. Not that a reasonable person could not see what that is1 point

I had a good friend up in Missouri that always got denied. Every single time. They said he had a police record. Of course he had a police record. He was a retired cop! Just goes to show you how messed up the system is. Glad you got it worked out. I hope you'll hang around and join in the craziness around here. We can always use a lady's point of view.1 point

Hmm. I'm skeptical my dad, who taught me how to change oil, would have trusted me to do it on my own when I was eight. I sure wouldn't have trusted my own kids to do it at that age. But maybe your kids are better.1 point
