Just saw the victim's mother being interviewed by Lester Holt, what a wondrous example of grace. To paraphrase, "rioting and burning down the city won't bring my son back, let there be peace." My opinion, it will sow further distrust between minorities and LE. Harsh reminder for me to continue to stay under the radar and do nothing to attract the attention of any LE. Lord, please extend your hand to heal and to perform signs and wonders through the holy, precious and powerful name of your obedient servant Jesus.7 points

Another housewife joining in. Since we’re discussing rumors, I’ll join in. For the past week there have been rumors that the deceased was romantically involved with one of the former officer’s lady friends. No proof of this, and none of the former cops are married. There is also rumor that these are the same cops who robbed an individual at a Poplar Ave hotel recently. No proof of that. Lastly there is a local news story where a gentleman has photos of the unit (same guys) after they accosted him a few days prior to the death of Nichols at a gas station on Ridgeway and Quince looking for a pound of dope. The individual was a passenger in a vehicle and had exited the vehicle to go across the street to pick up a pizza while the driver purchased fuel. The individual claims in the news story that he was released after stating he didn’t have drugs and wanted to contact his lawyer. The cops stated to the individual there was no reason to get lawyers involved, and said they were joking about the drugs, then released the individual. A complaint was filed with IAD twice and garnered zero response. As for the reckless driving. Chief Davis just did a live interview stating that the police department looked at multiple nearby traffic cams, pole cams, business cams and body cams and could find no evidence that Nichols was involved in reckless driving or driving on the wrong side of the road. Hence the chief saying the things she said about the behavior of her officers. The chief said the video would be released at 6pm on YouTube and memphistn.gov. The video will be about a hour long with footage from 3-4 cameras. Video will be from body cams, pole cam and dash cams. The video will show the officers initial contact with Nichols at a 10 on a scale of 1-10. There will be tasers and oc spray deployed and poor attempts to handcuff Nichols by several individuals. The video will show the second contact very clearly via pole cam that was brutality violent that lead to Nichols injuries. The video will show Nichols asking “what did I do” and saying something about his mother. The video will also show the cops attempting to sit Nichols up a couple of times, then slumping over and mumbling. Lastly, the video will show lapses in time of the cops failing to render or call for aid and first responders delaying aid and milling about upon their arrival. The chief said the only thing s redacted from the the video are license tags of nearby vehicles and some individuals. There are several fire and pd employees currently under investigation. So the former cops weren’t thrown under the bus. The city, county and police department were being transparent as they promised the citizens of Shelby County they would be when they put Davis in charge. Some people think the three weeks for charges was too slow and others believe the charges were abnormally fast. I’m the latter, but I believe it’s a good thing. At the end of the day, no traffic stop should end in this manner. As far as riots, I expect more of the agitators will be outsiders and the usual local unruly violators. Most Memphians are very vocal about wanting to peacefully protest, but not wanting to tear up the city. We will see.5 points

It’s awful. I’d encourage people to use some discretion in even watching it. It’s hard to imagine them not being convicted of murder.4 points

To be honest, no one needs to see the video except the Prosecutors, jury, and family. All showing it does is initiate the next killing of someone innocent, whether that be a person or cop. This is not a special situation. It happens every day to thousands of people, but this one fits into a narrative.4 points

At my LGS today. 9mm that was 18 last week is now at 15. .22 that had been 10 now at 7. .45 that had been 35 now at 29. I spoke to the owner and told him he had good prices. He said that in the last week distributors had been dropping their prices on nearly all popular ammo. He said he was marking down everything to move it out, some at close to what he had been paying for the cash flow and would buy at much better prices. So if you're contemplating a big ammo purchase online, it might pay to wait a while and check locally first if possible. Then again, if you're in a big city, you might want to get all you can today at the LGS today.3 points

I was privileged to have a sit down with the Speaker of the House on Wednesday, orchestrated by my State Rep, Chris Todd, and attended as well by Rep. Clay Doggett The take away is that we will, in the House at least, face no Leadership opposition in achieving the removal of the criminal aspect of carrying a firearm, the inclusion of long guns into the permissible weapons list (basically removing TCA 1307 (a) (1) and 1308 from the Code) and some realignment of "Public" place carry without penalty. With respect to "gun free zones" the Speaker portends that "Private Property Rights" stand above 2nd and 14th Rights with respect to who has the power to allow or disallow carry in stores. The Mississippi scheme was mentioned, that possibly the Enhanced Permit Holders be able to carry past signs without criminal penalty, unless the management became aware of a firearm and ask the person to leave, which then would result in a criminal trespass. No resolution was forthcoming at that time though lines of communication are still open regarding the issue. I have forwarded the Federal code section 42 to the parties: 42 U.S. Code § 12181 – Definitions As used in this subchapter (7) Public accommodation The following private entities are considered public accommodations for purposes of this subchapter, if the operations of such entities affect commerce— (A)an inn, hotel, motel, or other place of lodging, except for an establishment located within a building that contains not more than five rooms for rent or hire and that is actually occupied by the proprietor of such establishment as the residence of such proprietor; (B)a restaurant, bar, or other establishment serving food or drink; (C)a motion picture house, theater, concert hall, stadium, or other place of exhibition or entertainment; (D)an auditorium, convention center, lecture hall, or other place of public gathering; (E)a bakery, grocery store, clothing store, hardware store, shopping center, or other sales or rental establishment; (F)a laundromat, dry-cleaner, bank, barber shop, beauty shop, travel service, shoe repair service, funeral parlor, gas station, office of an accountant or lawyer, pharmacy, insurance office, professional office of a health care provider, hospital, or other service establishment; (G)a terminal, depot, or other station used for specified public transportation; (H)a museum, library, gallery, or other place of public display or collection; (I)a park, zoo, amusement park, or other place of recreation; (J)a nursery, elementary, secondary, undergraduate, or postgraduate private school, or other place of education; (K)a day care center, senior citizen center, homeless shelter, food bank, adoption agency, or other social service center establishment; and (L)a gymnasium, health spa, bowling alley, golf course, or other place of exercise or recreation. The jury is still out on what the GA will "allow". It was clearly stated that there is expectation of positive movement of restorative measures in the House, due to the recent court cases which show heavy favor to our request, but that the Speaker could not be held accountable for the actions of the Senate, which mirrors the thoughts I have expressed in a previous thread. From that meeting to the next, which included a number of 2nd Amendment friendly Representatives, again hosted by Reps Chris Todd and Clay Doggett to include Jay Reedy, and Johnny Garrett (majority whip) plus a number of freshman Representatives, Jody Barrett, Monty Fritts, Kip Capley, Elaine Davis, Brian Richey, Gino Bulso, Brock Martin and William Slater. Included in the invitees was Toby Maire, paid lobbyist for T-Rex Arms. Toby is a German ex patriot, an attorney by trade, and is a constant fixture at the GA for the last several years. To say that I was heartened by the general enthusiasm and support for the full expectation of returning the rights intended with respect to arms would be putting it mildly. Barrett and Bulso are seasoned attorneys and well placed in committees. With the exception of Fritts (who for some reason fell under the radar for support in the races earlier in the year, and which was grievous mistake on my part) we were monetarily invested in all their races. This is without doubt the best freshman class of legislators in decades. All that being said, we have a plan for moving forward. That MUST include contact and advocacy in the Senate. The recent AG admission of the State's guilt in committing a Federal Civil Rights violation with respect to withholding the rights of 18-20 year olds right to carry handguns shows the GA that if they do not move back to what Bruen describes, we will simply win it in the courts. Offering the Senate the chance to make themselves heroes of doing the right thing instead of being spanked into admitting they were doing their best to deny our rights may be the tact we need to take.3 points

There’s some irony that their very sky camera will send them to prison. They’re clearly aware of their cams. Some of the audio of them getting their story straight is illustrative. And maybe that’s the key takeaway. If this young man hadn’t died - we wouldn’t be seeing any of this. These officers aren’t offended or ashamed of what they’ve done - it’s a normal day for them.2 points

To my knowledge, there was no helicopter up that night. The “aerial” footage is from a pole mounted camera known as sky cop.2 points

I watched all 4 videos released on the City website. The people I saw didn't look like Police officers. They may have been wearing the uniform and driving the cars, but these were not Police officers. What I saw was a group of disorganized, incompetent thugs trying unsuccessfully to restrain one skinny dude. Failing that, they beat the poor guy into submission. There was absolutely nothing professional about them. Case in point. One guy has Nichols in a wrist lock while another is screaming "Give me your hands!" There was little to no teamwork there. The whole thing was wrong right from the start. They never gave Nichols a chance to exit the car. Instead, they opened the door and drug him out. It just got worse from there. IDK, maybe I'm just too jaded. What I saw was a clear case of Police brutality, but I didn't find it "shocking" or "horrifying" as it was claimed to be. Just me I guess.2 points

I'd say they are done. Standing a guy up and two guy holding him while a 3rd puts his whole body into several faces punches looking damning.2 points

A groundbreaking idea now gives rise to the next level of achievement in unrivaled performance, delivering tried-and-true results when you need them most. An evolution of the classic PPK, the PPK/s maintains the timeless features, essence, and elegance of the original with an additional extended grip allowing for added capacity and improved ergonomics. Walther’s industry-leading innovation takes the spotlight with their PPK model handguns. At the time of its invention over 80 years ago, the PPK inspired an entirely new category in the firearm industry, now widely known as the concealed carry pistol. To fill the need for performance in a concealable package, Walther broke the mold of pocket pistols and full-size military pistols to bring undercover officers a more-practical and reliable option, the PPK. It is chambered in.380 ACP, the PPK provides all the power needed in a self-defense pistol without sacrificing on critical functionalities. To execute this revolutionary concept, the Police Pistol Kriminal took all the modern advancements available at the time and combined them into one performance-leading pistol. It features a double-action/single-action trigger that decocks when rotating the safety down into the safe position, first introduced by Walther. Few guns have withstood the test of time like the brilliantly designed PPK. To this day, the PPK is still one of the most sought-after concealed carry pistols on the market. This demand serves as a testament to Walther’s long-enduring legacy of excellence and unparalleled performance. The timeless design and superior engineering make the PPK a true legend amongst firearms.2 points

Greetings from Nashville! I recently found my grandmothers Colt 1908 that was given to me by father a number of years ago when I turned 21. I am considering looking into the process of getting it refinished/restored back to its original condition. Is this something that would be crazy to do? I'm not looking to sell it and plan on keeping it as an heirloom to pass down, but wanted some feedback from the forum to see what my options might be. Here is a quick photo. You can see the finish appears corroded and the pearl grips could use some love as well. Thank you in advance for looking and your input!1 point

Is that a nickel finish? That will seriously complicate a restoration. I’m of the leave it be mentality. What you have now is the pistol’s history. A very costly and likely disappointing refinish might spoil that regardless of intent, but you’ll never really know until it’s done. BTW, according to Colt it was made in 1920.1 point

I recently spent a lot of time and effort removing rust from an original Spencer repeating carbine built in 1864. I did not want to remove any of the finish or original bluing and was advised to rub a light oil on the surface and then rub it with a brass or copper brush. DO NOT USE STEEL. It will do a remarkable job in removing the rust but of course, will not remove the pitting. Another thing that does a good job is to take a copper penny (use only one made prior to 1982 as after that date they added an alloy) and rub this over the oily surface of the pistol. The penny is really good on the flat surfaces. You will notice a brown to amber milky tint to the oil which is the rust and some of the brass/copper, too but after doing this for a while, rub it off with a dry rag and repeat. Lots of elbow grease and several applications but it will get rid of the rust.1 point

Tough call. Ordinarily I'd say never refinish a classic old gun. Refinishing hurts value more than having a poor finish. Collectors are strange about that. However, since you plan of keeping the gun and passing it on, I don't see why not. Be aware that a proper restoration will likely cost more than the gun is worth. Don't half azz it with some local refinish guy. Do it right with a restoration specialist. It won't be cheap and they will likely have the gun for months, perhaps a year or more. But the final results will be worth it.1 point

Here are the findings of Dean Weingarten's study, Handgun or Pistol Against Bear Attacks (2021) 104 cases, 97% Effective Key Takeaways Pistol shots stopped 97% of the bear attacks. 12.5% of shooters were injured after firing on the bear. Weaker ammo needed more shots to stop the attack than stronger ammo. Hollow points needed more shots; multiple reports cited them glancing off of bear skulls. The 4 failures: .22lr vs. polar bear, .38 special vs. black bear, .357 Magnum vs. grizzly bear, .45 ACP vs. black bear. 5 incidents were initiated by dog(s). Dogs assisted in 2 incidents, buying time for the owner to fire. Several successful uses of firearms followed the failure of pepper spray. Warning shots were successful about half the time they were tried. Aiming for the heart or lungs was highly effective By the way, this is in direct conflict with the "use bear spray" results you'll get if you google "firearm or bear spray vs bear." Notice who posts and parrots those results: typically progressive, liberal, and conservationist sources. The most-often cited studies on these pages are BYU's 2012 study, which found firearms generally ineffective and bear spray 97% effective. However, dissecting their methodology reveals a grossly biased study, where incidents in which a person carrying a gun but not drawing it were counted as gun failures, but only incidents with ideal conditions in which the bear spray was deployed prior to close contact with the bear were counted. When the samples are evaluated using similar deployment criterion, the statistics are reversed. Bias in science, sucks.1 point

Hold up there Bubba! Your first 1911 MUST be in .45acp. Further, it should be a basic G.I. style pistol. Otherwise you'll be cheating yourself out of the 1911 experience. Know where it all started and you'll be amazed as to where it can go from there. I think a good starting point is the Rock Island G.I. model. A really good, reliable pistol at a good price. It will be your first, but it won't be your last. You can move up from there with a much better idea of what you want the final result to be. I own a bunch of 1911s. Most are .45acp. A few are in the other original caliber, .38 Super. I only own one in 9mm and all I can say for that is meh! Ain't what I thought it should be. I shot it a couple of times and its sat in the safe ever since. Wish I had never bought it. IMHO 9mm 1911s are for wimps who can't handle a real gun. If you want a 1911-ish gun in 9mm, go with a Hi-Power. Now that's the perfect 9mm SA pistol.1 point

Re: the Scorpion units, it’s my understanding that they staff these primarily with young hard charger types. This can be a recipe for exactly this type of disaster without the proper guidance and supervision of experienced officers seasoned with age as well as time in uniform. Only one officer involved here had 5 years on the force and a high, adrenaline, high threat unit like this only amplifies the need for experienced and levelheaded personnel.1 point
