Here’s what it boils down to folks. Either someone is a legal adult and entitled to all the rights and responsibilities that entails, or they aren’t. It’s really not more complicated than that.5 points

If you're old enough to be taught to use an actual weapon(s) of war on man by the US Government: then a personal weapon of peace should be granted at home or anywhere on US soil.4 points

The sad thing is that this will cause even more people to run from police. Why pull over if there is a chance you could get beat to death.4 points

Hi everyone, The time has come for me to sell my beloved Franchi SPAS-12 shotgun. I bought this back in the summer of 2015 from the gentleman who runs the SPAS-12 Project (https://www.spas-12.com/) out of Indiana and have thoroughly enjoyed shooting it occasionally over the years, but I have some other projects I'd like to put money towards at this time. The previous owner had cleaned the firearm and installed the replacement buffers and shock absorbers before shipping to me. The weapon fires in both auto and pump without issue; I almost exclusively used the gun in auto mode though. Also worth noting that this example features the push-button safety instead of the lever-style safety, which is known to malfunction and can cause the weapon to discharge without warning. Included along with the gun are both variants of stocks, the fixed stock and the very rare, original folding stock with hook that came on the gun when I purchased it; since someone already asked, changing stocks is easy...all you need is a socket with a 10mm extension...there is a single bolt that holds the stock in place so it's no big deal to change them out. I will also include the sling and expanding pliers recommended by Chris with the SPAS-12 Project which are necessary for helping take certain components apart for cleaning. I will even throw in the hard case and some leftover ammo if the buyer wants those too. The gun is in really good condition overall, but certainly not perfect. It does have some blemishes on it in various places though it still presents very well and gets compliments whenever I take it places. The SPAS-12 certainly needs no introductions...made famous by Jurassic Park, Terminator and a whole host of other movies and video games, it's one of the coolest firearms ever made. Asking $4,000 FIRM and the buyer would need to bring either cash or a certified check from your bank of choice...I am NOT interested in trades at this time. While I'm located in Franklin, I would be willing to meet somewhere within reasonable driving distance in Tennessee. If you'd like to see more photos, videos, or ask questions, feel free to message me here or you can email me at preds98@proton.me and I'll do my best to respond quickly. Thanks! Jay3 points

Why own a gun if there is a chance it will kill someone unintended? Why take a vaccine if there is a chance it will do you harm? Why anything? I am not Black and I am not saying I can relate to everything. But I have worked with police all over the world for 25 years and while some are meat heads, I don't know of one who is shooting someone for cooperating. There is a cause and effect and we have lost site of the root cause in 99.9% of these situations in my opinion. As my 6th grade teacher told me and I still tell others today. There are excuses and there are reasons. Running and not cooperating is an excuse, not a reason.3 points

In my research it seems that one of Scorpion Unit's goals is to cut down on the wave of drag racing, donuts and assorted other car tricks that have been plaguing Memphis streets for the last few years. These street racers have gone so far as to block major streets and Interstates to put on their little shows. The goal is not only to stop this, but to impound the cars used. Its stated that Nichols was originally pulled over for reckless driving. Could it be that he was involved in these sort of activities? Street racers get real touchy when they might lose their car. Maybe that's why he ran? What exactly did he do to be pulled over? I wonder if we'll ever know? Still no excuse for being beaten to death.3 points

I would like to begin with prayers for the young mans family for their loss. There is always a lot of pain when a child is lost, especially so needlessly. Now as far as a person running from police when stopped. I have never understood why they do that. Running for any reason is only going to make the situation worse......JNHO3 points

Can't get the pdf to load, but our new AG has agreed that the ban on 18 year olds being able to get permits is unconstitutional.2 points

Yeah, I’m tracking you. I never responded to any of your post, because I already had you pegged based upon your interactions with other members. I took your advice and googled the term. You’re correct, I had never heard it before. I guess I don’t associate with the same type of people you do. You are the company you keep. Stay classy!2 points

How often does this happen when the person stopped by police does not run or fight? It would be interesting to find out why he ran and what happened after he did. We are told that black men are all but justified in running because look at what happens when they get stopped, but most of the incidents cited are horrible examples that the victim/suspect had warrants, tried to run over the officer, etc. and could have easily avoided. This one appears to be an exception, although none of us have all the facts and probably never will. It is a tragedy if black men are taught to run any time they are stopped and then fight if need be because you are going to get badly hurt or die regardless. That seems like they are being conditioned to carry out a self-fulfilling prophesy.2 points

They are still uniformed but not the normal uniform. They are generally in grey chargers that are, indeed, unmarked. And in case y’all wanted to know. MPD SCORPION Unit. “Street Cars Operation to Restore Peace In Our Neighborhoods”2 points

We have had 18 year olds with permits since 2014, just had to be active military. Any reciprocity we would loose was lost then. Check out the list from Department of safety, you see those states that do and those who do not, we will not lose a single state. https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/safety/documents/handgun/Reciprocity_August_2022.pdf2 points

We’ve both been on TGO for many years, and I’ve recounted several stories of my life here. There is nothing that I’ve shared that was imagined or false. Thank God you will never know the feelings I’ve expressed or experienced. It’s not as easy as cooperating. How many times have you heard law enforcement yelling for an individual to calm down while experiencing a traumatic experience? Some people can’t overcome the fear of the situation. If everything you’ve seen, heard or experienced tells you that an interaction with a cop will go south, you are currently experiencing your worst nightmare. You are correct, I would never escalate a situation or run from a cop, but that’s only because I’ve had the experience of being on the other side. Most in society don’t have that benefit.2 points

In both of the sh*tty jobs I had in my youth that involved placing handcuffs on people, there was always a huge emphasis placed on deescalation. I don’t understand why the so called law enforcement officers of today can’t comprehend this simple skill. Very good point @Chucktshoes. I’m terrified of getting pulled over, because I’m immediately at the mercy of someone’s insecurities when they see a huge black man. A fear many will never understand.2 points

People scared for their lives don’t think or act rationally. That makes the responsibility of the agents of the state to act correctly and justly all the more important. Yeah, it’s a difficult job, but it’s no excuse for what went on here.2 points

This is in like new condition, having spent a majority of its time in the safe. I've taken it to the range to zero and that's it. It's a 1-8x24 ffp scope with fc-mil reticle. This is the C598 model, .2 mil, illuminated, with power throw lever and zero stop. Comes with box and everything it left the factory with. Asking $1400 ftf in and around the Murfreesboro area.1 point

The unwritten shorthand is that the hard cast bullet is assumed to have a flat, wide meplat with sharp edges for similar penetration to FMJ but better wound channel creation. The problem is - and is seldom addressed - is that the best bullet design with a purely flat meplat would probably not feed reliably out of a semiautomatic. A deep penetrating, expanding JHP is not a bad choice for bear, in my opinion. Most LE "barrier blind" rounds (another misnomer) would do well. Think Hornady Critical Duty. Sacrilege, they say. Well, "they" probably haven't actually read the scholarly study of human/bear encounters that concluded every single person who actually employed their firearm against the attacking bear, survived - and almost all without injury. *Most* of those engagements were with 9mm and 40S&W law enforcement ammo. The one guy who shot his bear and survived with the most serious wounds did so with his toes shot off - he put his legs up in defense, and proceeded to shoot the bear through his own feet in the heat of the moment. Another pair of guys got thrice pounced by a very determined grizzly, and successfully drove him off (3 times) with an itty bitty micro 9mm carry handgun. A fascinating study, well worth the read. I'll come back and link it if I get around to it. The moral of the story is, it matters more how you carry and whether you draw, than precisely what you draw. Having said all that, I run high pressure/high velocity 10mm JHP out of a 4.6" M&P 2.0 10mm when I'm in the woods. And sometimes even when I'm not!1 point

After going back through the terms again and verifying with CCW Safe, I was informed that the coverage also applies to home self defense as well minus the stipulations brought up earlier about family/domestic issues. I've also been watching some of their courses they offer on de-escalation and the monetary costs associated with legal defense for use of force situations. It is good info.1 point

Or he might get away. MPD has a fairly strict no pursuit policy and the bad guys are well aware. If MPD chases someone in a car (assuming they follow their own rules), they probably have a good reason. It’s not even clear (or at least I haven’t read) whether he didn’t stop, stopped and decided to leave in his car, ran away on foot, or some combination. If it turns out that he was one of those fine citizens who, in the last two years, has decided it’s ok to shut down streets at gunpoint, get 3” from other cars while changing lanes at 125mph on I-240, or do the hit-and-run routine and he finally got caught, I will have less sympathy for him. But I won’t judge him or the cops until I see some facts and evidence.1 point

I did a bit of research. This Scorpion Unit seems to be based on aggressive policing. Go out and find the bad guys before/while they commit the crime. Seems it was also Davis' idea and was started a few months after she took over in 2021. Not sure how I feel about aggressive policing. The 5 guys fired got a bit over aggressive and now a man is dead. Oh yeah, stick a fork in her, Davis is done. Maybe the next chief will be hired for good qualifications and not political correctness.1 point

Oh Dear Lord! let's hope that's not true. I hate to think of what could happen. I predict that C.J. Davis will be looking for a new job soon. Ok, couple of things I'm not straight on. Were the officers in uniform or plain clothes when this happened? Patrol cars or unmarked?1 point

While I am sure that is how you feel, I am also pretty confident that you would not run from them or escalate the situation. There are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part if you act like a normal person, you will be treated like a normal person. De-escalation should be standard operating procedure, but it should be on all parties to deescalate if they are really worried about their lives. Even with these 5 cops being jackwads, I highly suspect we would be having a different conversation if the kid killed had just bit his tongue and cooperated. Doesn't make it right, but I would bet big money it would make it true.1 point

IMO the city and MPD drug their feet on this incident. The local news reported the story shortly after it happened. The next day the deceased family was raising hell that he had been put in the hospital with serious injuries. Three days later the young man dies. The DA rightfully referred the investigation to TBI. Days later police announced that they would be holding an administrative hearing the following week, which was held on Friday. The incident was discussed on national news earlier in the week. The feds got involved. The entire time people are already suspecting an attempted cover up. If the city and the cops wanted to avoid suspicion, they should have immediately released the video and suspended the officers pending investigation. They allowed rumors about misconduct/cover up to grow wings.1 point

7-10 years ago they could get away with that to. It's almost impossible to believe they would do this on body cam knowing the repercussions. If true, they need to be charged.1 point

Re: the Scorpion units, it’s my understanding that they staff these primarily with young hard charger types. This can be a recipe for exactly this type of disaster without the proper guidance and supervision of experienced officers seasoned with age as well as time in uniform. Only one officer involved here had 5 years on the force and a high, adrenaline, high threat unit like this only amplifies the need for experienced and levelheaded personnel.1 point

Some actual facts about this whole deal rather then grumblings and conjecture, -Nioa is a privately owned company and a family owned and run company. The largest in Australia. -Nioa started as a small business, a single retail store, and grew into the the defense contractor for the Australian military. Their story is not that dissimilar to Barrett's -They supply everything from fighting knives to 155mm armillary munitions, many items sourced from other small independent companies like ZU Bladeworx. -If it is Firearms or ammunition related in Australia or New Zealand it was probably sourced, imported, and distributed by Nioa. They are already partners with numerous firearms related companies including Glock, Ruger, Remington, Marlin, Savage, and Colt. -Nioa is not just a military contractor. They supply firearms for sporting and hunting markets in both Australia and New Zealand. -They have been direct partners with Barrett for more than a decade as the importer of Barrett products into Australia and New Zealand. This includes the recent partnership with the Land 159 Tranche 1 contract when the Barrett M107A1 was selected as the anti material sniper rifle. -Nioa previously purchased the Fieldcraft product line from Barrett and will begin producing that product line again in the near future. -Nioa already had a presence here in the US and connections/partnerships with both the US Gov and US military. The purchase of Barrett expands that presence and gives them a production capability in the US they did not previously have. Australians citizens can and do own firearms even though they do have restrictions. Their current gun laws are probably less restrictive than California, Illinois, New York, and a few of the other North Eastern states here. They are certainly less restrictive than many other developed nations in Europe. Nioa, like Barrett, looks to have always been on the side of protecting and/or expanding gun rights in Australia.1 point

"Free" SBR registration means they don't care about the money and they don't want them to be illegal, so they must just want us to register them so they know who owns all the guns. That scares me way worse than the penalty for not registering.1 point
