  4. We’ve both been on TGO for many years, and I’ve recounted several stories of my life here. There is nothing that I’ve shared that was imagined or false. Thank God you will never know the feelings I’ve expressed or experienced. It’s not as easy as cooperating. How many times have you heard law enforcement yelling for an individual to calm down while experiencing a traumatic experience? Some people can’t overcome the fear of the situation. If everything you’ve seen, heard or experienced tells you that an interaction with a cop will go south, you are currently experiencing your worst nightmare. You are correct, I would never escalate a situation or run from a cop, but that’s only because I’ve had the experience of being on the other side. Most in society don’t have that benefit.

  7. In both of the sh*tty jobs I had in my youth that involved placing handcuffs on people, there was always a huge emphasis placed on deescalation. I don’t understand why the so called law enforcement officers of today can’t comprehend this simple skill. Very good point @Chucktshoes. I’m terrified of getting pulled over, because I’m immediately at the mercy of someone’s insecurities when they see a huge black man. A fear many will never understand.

  8. Hi everyone, The time has come for me to sell my beloved Franchi SPAS-12 shotgun. I bought this back in the summer of 2015 from the gentleman who runs the SPAS-12 Project (https://www.spas-12.com/) out of Indiana and have thoroughly enjoyed shooting it occasionally over the years, but I have some other projects I'd like to put money towards at this time. The previous owner had cleaned the firearm and installed the replacement buffers and shock absorbers before shipping to me. The weapon fires in both auto and pump without issue; I almost exclusively used the gun in auto mode though. Also worth noting that this example features the push-button safety instead of the lever-style safety, which is known to malfunction and can cause the weapon to discharge without warning. Included along with the gun are both variants of stocks, the fixed stock and the very rare, original folding stock with hook that came on the gun when I purchased it; since someone already asked, changing stocks is easy...all you need is a socket with a 10mm extension...there is a single bolt that holds the stock in place so it's no big deal to change them out. I will also include the sling and expanding pliers recommended by Chris with the SPAS-12 Project which are necessary for helping take certain components apart for cleaning. I will even throw in the hard case and some leftover ammo if the buyer wants those too. The gun is in really good condition overall, but certainly not perfect. It does have some blemishes on it in various places though it still presents very well and gets compliments whenever I take it places. The SPAS-12 certainly needs no introductions...made famous by Jurassic Park, Terminator and a whole host of other movies and video games, it's one of the coolest firearms ever made. Asking $4,000 FIRM and the buyer would need to bring either cash or a certified check from your bank of choice...I am NOT interested in trades at this time. While I'm located in Franklin, I would be willing to meet somewhere within reasonable driving distance in Tennessee. If you'd like to see more photos, videos, or ask questions, feel free to message me here or you can email me at preds98@proton.me and I'll do my best to respond quickly. Thanks! Jay

  12. Some carry programs do not provide coverage for incidents that take place within the home in all issues. For instance, if you have an invited guest that gets drunk and threatens bodily harm and you're forced to shoot him, you're not covered. Your drug-addict son goes wild and attacks your wife and your shoot him, you're not covered. That's the reason to know specifically what you are covered and not covered for when looking at a carry protection program. They are not all the same. These programs are in essence a contract and you and the company are bound by that contract. Read the fine print. That's what matters - not your assumptions or beliefs.

  15. Wondering about your self-defense ammo? Is it the best? What's the difference between being shot out of a 2" barrel .38 special and a 4" .38 special? What's hype and what's not? I recently heard Roy Huntington mention that there's all the hype and then there's science. Roy recommended this site for the science. Brass Fetcher Ballistic Testing The gentleman who runs the site and supervises the controlled tests is a qualified expert witness and has worked with numerous government and private agencies. This is not fluff selling you one brand of ammo over another. This is scientific testing and the results. Frankly, I thought I knew what was best. Turns out I don't. Reading this site has opened my eyes and has changed my mind about many of the ammo cartridges I've been carrying. I let my feelings get in the way of facts but now I know better. There're few things in life more worthwhile than exchanging incorrect thinking for better information. Spend some time on this site. You may have your mind changed as well.

  17. Hello all. I am wanting to sell a Bulgarian AKS-74U parts kit. It's time to take my wife on the Honeymoon that she deserves. The kit appears to be unfired. This came from K-var about 15 years ago, I have had it sitting in my safe since then. The barrel is original to the gun. This is a numbers matching kit in 5.45x39. The kit is complete aside for the Top cover pin that was missing from the demill process and a semi fire control retaining plate. I will also throw in a Bulgarian 30 rnd magazine. I am asking $2,950.00 for the kit. We can meet up in Murfreesboro or Smyrna if you are local. Cash is preferred if meeting in person. I have a 100% feedback rating on AR15.com with the same username. Thanks!

  18. Glock 45 MOS 9mm pistol. This has several hundred rounds through it (shot in 2 outdoor GSSF matches plus a couple other range sessions). I just don't care for this as much as my 17s so it can go away. The pistol is in excellent condition and will include the original case / accessories / MOS plates. 5 total magazines and a Blade-Tech Signature OWB holster included. The G45 as pictured has a Holosun 507C X2 optic mounted but I can remove it. Optic info https://holosun.com/index/product/detail/id/104.html If you don't like Holosun / want a smaller optic I have a Riton 3 TACTIX MPRD 2 available that can swap over. Optic info https://ritonoptics.com/product/3-tactix-mprd-2/ No other optic options are available at this time. I will not sell the optics separately. I can sell this three ways: Glock 45 with no optic - $600 $550 price reduced for pistol only Glock 45 with Holosun 507C - $830 Glock 45 with Riton MPRD - $750 Only trade interest would be a semi-auto 22lr rifle as partial trade (10/22, Savage A22, Marlin 60, etc). Located in Columbia, willing to meet around the Mid-TN area. No shipping, must be legally able to purchase. SOLD

  20. Oh Dear Lord! let's hope that's not true. I hate to think of what could happen. I predict that C.J. Davis will be looking for a new job soon. Ok, couple of things I'm not straight on. Were the officers in uniform or plain clothes when this happened? Patrol cars or unmarked?

  28. With respect to the purists above, and posting as a 1911 collector (Vintage 1911 Collector's Association Member #44), I disagree with the notion that your first 1911 needs to be a USGI base model. With an $1800 budget, you don't need to hobble yourself with the Great Granddaddy warhorse that has since been improved several generations hence. It is a testimony to the 1911's design that, over a century after its introduction (at the dawn of semiautomatic handguns, no less), it has been able to be refined and improved to be a viable contender with cutting-edge modern designs using engineering methods, CNC milling, metals, and synthetic materials that hadn't even been dreamed of let alone implemented when John Moses Browning blessed us with the 1911. As a modern handgun shooter, you may in fact be somewhat soured on the 1911 platform by the original's small beavertail, lack of trigger finger and grip scalloping, lack of checkering on the straps, lack of an accessory rail, poor irreplaceable sights, lesser slide serrations, and/or many of the other features that have since been greatly improved as semiauto experience and engineering have marched forward. There's absolutely no good reason to start there. Once you love the platform, expand backwards and pick up something original. I own Colts ranging from the pre-1911 1903 Pocket Hammerless, to US Property-marked 1911's and 1911A1's from both World Wars, to some of their most desirable offerings from the postwar era through the 1980's. As a bona-fide Colt collector, I urge you not to select a modern Colt. The company went tragically downhill since the mid-1980's and especially beginning in the late '90's, Colt's modern semiautmatic offerings have suffered from poor quality control, poor material quality, and poor fitment/assembly. They have recently scored a big turnaround with their modern revolver redesigns, but that has not translated to their semiautomatics. This may change with CZ's takeover of Colt. As a retail gunsmith, I have a unique perspective on firearms quality - I get to see what comes across my counter for repair. A higher incidence of Colt 1911-pattern guns since about 2000 have had cracked frames, cycling and feed issues from the factory, poor accuracy compared to similar-priced guns, and other issues including fundamental fitment deficiencies affecting reliability, accuracy or ease of use. While they don't descend to the level of "lemons," the defect rate is out of all proportion to their cost. Get yourself a railed Sig 1911, black FDE or stainless as you prefer (the stainless is exceptionally good). Excellent in the hand, great modern features without going too far astray of what a 1911 is, accurate, and fantastic factory quality including especially, fitment. You won't spend anywhere near your budget, leaving you room for ammo and accessories. You'll have enough of a baseline to help you determine whether you like the platform or not, and you will not have "wasted" a slot on the notion that well, that wasn't the best of what the 1911 has to offer. Imagine putting $600 into a Rock Island (great guns by the way, especially at the price), not liking the clunky old design, and then having strangers chime in, "well they make better ones, you should give it a fair chance and buy a good modern one, you can't compare the old 1911 to modern guns." If you don't like Sig, get a Springfield TRP or one of the varios Operators, Smith Performance Center, or Rock Island Tac Standard. But whatever you do, get it in .45 so you can understand what the gun can really do. The big holes are fun, and you owe yourself the understanding of what the "push" of a .45's recoil feels like in a big handgun compared to the "snap" of a 9mm.

  29. That's what I expected since you said they were inexpensive. In that case, a normal knife sharpener should work fine. The only problem is the coating on the blade will load up a stone or diamond really quickly so you need to be careful not to get into the coating. Else you spend more time cleaning the stones than sharpening the blade.

  30. I ended up getting the Defender plan with civil protection option. Considering the cost, it is really miniscule compared to bail and attorney fees. I've been watching the self defense case of Luis Casado on Andrew Branca's YT channel. He had some damn good attorneys and was eventually aquitted. I'm sure he paid a pretty penny for them but they definitely earned their paycheck. The fees for expert witnesses on defense aren't cheap either. Good thing my plan covers all that.

  31. Your first must be a 45. 230 grain vs 115 grain. After seeing a tweeker shot 4 times with a 9mm and still on his feet. 1 shot with the 45 and he was flat on his back. The 45 wins every time.

  33. I have been a member of CCW Safe for a few years now. I have what they now call their Ultimate Plan. I agree with TripleGGG, you should seriously look at a plan that includes civil liability coverage. They used to run a 10% discount on your first year through partners such as Law of Self Defense and Calguns but I don't believe they are doing it as often. You can do a little searching and see if you find a code out there.

  36. I don’t buy this at all. Camera tricks have existed for decades that negate the need to ever point a gun at someone. There is no reason that anyone on that set should ever need to point a gun anyone else.

  39. As deerslayer pointed out, what's the first thing you do when handed a gun? You check it yourself! Baldwin didn't. The gun was in his hand. He pulled the trigger. HE is responsible for that bullet. Until now the armorer's part in all this has been unclear. Now they're saying that she loaded the gun. I'm afraid that girl is screwed. The producer that handed Baldwin the gun made a plea deal. Other wise, he'd be up on charges too. He knew he had screwed up and covered his ass. Bottom line: if someone hands you a gun, its YOUR responsibility to make sure its safe. So now charges have been filed. But given the state of our justice system, it could still be years before this actually goes to trial.

  40. Anyone seriously interested and not just ill-informed speculation as to why Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter, can watch this excellent presentation by Andrew Branca, a noted legal Self-Defense attorney. The Legal Charges Against Alec Baldwin What counts is not the opinions of laymen, but what the law is. Gun owners should realize this law also applies to them.

  41. Makes sense. As much as I despise Baldwin, I have mixed feelings about sending him to prison for this. A trip to the local indoor range can look like somebody let loose a bunch of monkeys with chainsaws. I would hate to imagine the safety picture on the set of a movie with untrained Hollywood egomaniacs pretending to shoot each other. I suspect Baldwin did nothing different than he has done numerous times in his career, except this time, somebody loaded the gun. A friend completely disagreed and said if one of us were cleaning a gun, reassembled it, accidently loaded it, and pulled the trigger and shot somebody, we would go to prison and what he did was no different. I think this is a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison. We (should) follow Cooper’s four rules. Those rules get murky when making a movie that involves people being shot. Whether he pulled the hammer or pulled the trigger, Baldwin pointed a gun at someone and shot them and is ultimately responsible. If he had said something like “Wow, I screwed up and this is an eye opening experience. I want to use this tragedy to establish and follow better procedures on sets and change our culture”, I would respect him for it. Instead, he said “IT’S SOMEBODY ELSE’S FAULT!!” So come what may.

  42. It actually say "7.62 - 59' with 59 indicating the bullet type. The Czechs called steel core light ball Type 59. If I'm deciphering the rest of it correctly it was made by Sellier & Bellot in 1963. It's good stuff.
