Drove to Cookeville yesterday evening for a meeting with Senator Paul Bailey. Carried a lot of information on the Bruen and successor suits. It is a long way back to West TN in the dark and pouring down rain, got in a little after midnight, (hard on an old man) but had a good meeting. Only way to advance is to do the work!4 points

I ordered a Tisas 1911 Carry in stainless two weeks ago with low expectations. I own a Colt 1911 in 10mm and have owned a couple of Colt 1911s in 45 acp and a Springfield Armory 1911, so I have a good baseline. I ordered the Tisas from Classic Firearms for $399, so again, low expectations. The fit and finish are really good, and it comes with a cleaning kit, two mags and a waterproof carry case. I’ve only run 100 rounds through it, but the trigger is much nicer than expected. I’m waiting for some major flaw to appear, but so far I am pleased- it’s a pleasure at the range. I don’t know that it would ever be my carry- that’s why I have Sigs and Glocks- but I thought I would share in case anyone is looking for a budget 1911 that feels much more expensive. Also, I like that SDS had Knoxville TN engraved on the frame. The same model in blue is $579 at my LGS. FYI- I have no connection to CF. In fact, I’m not a fan of them usually.3 points

Here's a bump and reminder. . . If you're not a PAID member of the TFA, you should be. As evidenced by this thread, we have no one working harder on our behalf than John Harris at TFA. Support him as much as you can. My membership just expired and I'm on my way to renew it now.2 points

Looking @ the 80X Cheetah, it is obviously an 'update' with modern additions, versus a bringing back of the old gun, as it was. I get it. Maybe they can pull in some newer & younger customers with the changes. But it makes me less enthused so I must not be the target audience. It seems like a solid choice for smaller handed & recoil sensitive people. Still...$800?!2 points

I’ve never considered a vehicle a coffin, but I’ve certainly considered it another tool in the defensive toolbox. I guess it’s all in your mindset.2 points

I will agree that "your car isn't worth dying for", but who says I'm going to die? I would say the same applies to the would be robber, maybe somebody needs to tell him my car isn't worth him dying for.2 points

I've got about 350 rounds downrange with the Masada as of today. Basics: 2 x 17 round magazines, with remarkably stiff springs. Comes with 2 backstraps (small and large), and optic mounting kit with 4 RDS-specific spacer plates and appropriate screws. The optic cut cover and all the mounting plates are plastic. The RDS plates included are for: Deltapoint, RMR, Venom, and Romeo 1. Trigger pull is 4 lbs, about 4.5mm worth of takeup and another 4mm of smooth, non-stacking creep. Ambi mag release and ambi slide release. Steel 3-dot sights. Handling and shooting impressions: Good hand feel for me, I left the large backstrap installed. Trigger has a great pull, but trigger slap does occur on mine. Out of the box, shooting a few mags of mildly hot 9mm earns you a stinging trigger finger. After mounting a RDS, the trigger slap was softened and all but unnoticeable. The Glock-type safety dingus isn't really a problem. I'd put about 100 rounds through it before I installed the Vortex Venom RDS, and the trigger slap was unpleasant enough that I was considering getting rid of the gun. After installing the RDS and putting 250 more rounds through it with considerably tamed trigger slap, I feel like it was built and intended for RDS use exclusively. Sights are very much a "combat hold" setup, where the POI is about where the white dot on the front sight is. I was using a 6'oclock hold at about 10 yards and my group was about 1.5"-2" below the 1" dot that I was resting atop my front sight. Accuracy was about average for your typical $400 polymer combat pistol, about on par with my S&W M&P 1.0s, at least while shooting irons. The rear sight notch is a bit too wide for me, so that likely contributed. With the RDS, accuracy seemed to tighten up to the point I had no complaints. Reloads were not as fast as I'd have liked. The front of the magazine extends up into a "tab" that is prone to catch on the frontstrap side of the mag opening. The mag opening has a pretty good bevel on the rear but not on the sides or front, which are thin; and the recessed area on both sides doesn't do you any favors, either. The mag release button is a bit small and requires me to twist the gun just a bit to hit it reliably, but since this is an ambi mag button, I may just work on hitting it with my trigger finger instead. At least the mags eject briskly. Slide release is large and easy to hit but not big enough to be in the way. The gun doesn't seem all that fat, but the only holster it would fit in is the one for my Steyr M9, which, along with the Beretta APX, has the fattest slide of any gun I own. Fortunately, the Steyr, APX, and Masada all fit very nicely into the same holster, so that what I'll use. Reliability was 100% with my ammo, which are 115 gr coated lead reloads running about 1200 FPS. Summary: An exceptional value at a little over $400. Trigger slap is something to watch out for, maybe it was just my gun, but installing a RDS made that a non-issue. Due to its magwell, mag changes are a little slow. Accuracy and reliability earn an "A" for me. Sights adequate but not optimal.1 point

I rarely get excited about a new gun because, well, because there are new guns released every week that seem to be more of the same guns that were released last week. This one however, the RIA 5.0, appears to be a new idea that is actually good. Unless the first production run proves problematic, it might be the gun of the decade. One of my favorite reviewers, Roy Huntington, released this video today. RIA 5.0 9mm Take a look. No word yet on the cost, but I may be saving my pennies.1 point

Only thing to add is unless you already know your neighbors you may want to restrict how much you shoot really loud guns, 100 yards of woods doesn't deaden the noise much. I have a backyard range and have never had a complaint but I don't shoot early in the morning and anything bigger than 9mm I try to restrict the amount I shoot at any given time. I have invited several neighbors to join me and a one has a couple of times. I'm on a 1/2 mile dead end road and I know of at least 3 other ranges. Most everyone on the road shoot so that helps too.1 point

A number of House members are reaching out to the new TN AG to get him to fight this under 10th Amendment. There may in fact b e legislation filed to require him to do so. Per the W.V. v. EPA case SCOTUS ruled on last year, this specific issue of "rulemaking" subverting the legislature's job to make law will most likely be stopped at some point.1 point

Lowered the price to $1550 CASH. I did some research on the prices so I adjusted it to what I found out. Thanks.1 point

On 24hourcampfire.com, you’ll find a subforum titled Savage Collectors. If anyone on earth could answer your question without having the pistol in hand, it would be one of those guys. Without seeing the pistol, I’d only be guessing it was disassembled and not reassembled correctly, or perhaps something is broken.1 point

As far as state law goes, you're good if you're shooting more than 50 yards from a public roadway. As others have advised, check with your sheriff about any county ordinances regulating shooting. I doubt there are any. Lauderdale County seems to rank pretty low on the list of government oppression. Cheers, Whisper1 point

Here's the link to the new Cheetah. Not a fan. Why do they feel the need to tacticool everything now-a-days? The original Cheetah was a beautiful pistol. The new one is Fugly (note the capital F). I'm okay with the optic cutout, but that rail under the dust cover just sucks. The back of the grip is too straight. There isn't an elegant line on this pistol. Wood grips would have been much nicer, for $800. One thing they did do right, is slim the grip down, though. I also love the dovetailed front sight. For $800, there should be a night sight on it. 80X Cheetah (beretta.com)1 point

Not so sure if I like this or not, prices will go up 40%, the aus company will probably run it into the dirt, they’ll probably only sell to military here and outside of the US and that will be the end of it. Just want Brandon and the other elective mental cases want. I’ll hold onto my rec seven probably be a collectors item before long.1 point

He almost pulled it off, he passed from L to R, the last second, he opened up it's wings and caught my antenna then a quick 90 straight into my mirror. I feel lucky on my way to Murfreesboro I counted 7 dead deer on I24 and 6 on my back home, someone(s) had a bad day.1 point

Make sure you tell the manager, or even the owner if you have their contact info. It's perfectly legit for a business to want to establish a customer database for various reasons, but a gun store especially should know that is an iffy thing with parts of their customer base. If it makes you take your business online or elsewhere in town, that's a data point they should have as well. Sorry to hear this about Nashville Armory. I'm a Royal Range guy, but had a positive experience for my visits to Nashville Armory.1 point

I had to open up my ceiling to get to the water pressure regulator and knowing a patch would look like a patch I put an A/C return grate up to hide the hole. I used cardboard and duct tape to seal the louvers. Now, if I need to get up there just take down the grate.1 point
