I suppose that everyone has to make their own judgement about this kind of thing, but I don't want to see a world (San Francisco for example) where it's okay to steal. I see it as being less about the stolen merchandise than it is about a civil society. If a store decides to just let people walk out with whatever they can carry, the cost is transferred to the rest of us, even if it is a tax write-off. I think we've all seen videos of gangs of organized thieves going into a store and taking everything they can carry. I don't want our country to be like that. And while I agree 100% that it's tragic that the RK employee was killed, I admire him for having the courage and conviction to do his part to slow the downward slide we find ourselves in.3 points

Middle TN Electric put out a message saying Rutherford County "may" have rolling black outs this Saturday. Duration will be 15 minutes. I hope not. I am not turning on Christmas lights and have downed my thermostat 2 degrees. Keeping all unnecessary lights turned off. How are the "Tree Huggers" thinking they are going to put millions of electric cars on the road and keep them charged? What A Joke they are playing/putting on us. TVA can't even weather a 4-day storm right now.3 points

[Edit: Cancelled; I didn't get the equipment purchased after all.] I posted this in the Nashville Club, but I've since realized that Club content doesn't show up on the main site, so I'm reposting in the main chat. Would anyone happen to be available for an hour or two of firearms-related labor next Thursday or Friday? I'm a gunsmith, recently relocated to Chattanooga from San Diego. My shop is still active in Commiefornia, so that's where all my equipment is. As I've grown into Tennessee I have come to find that professional gunsmithing is fairly rare out here (the opposite of what I expected, moving to such a gun-friendly state). So, I have decided to buy another lathe, mill, etc. and set up another shop in my new hometown. I have a line on a mill and lathe located in the Rosebank area of Nashville. If I get it done, is there anyone who would be willing to help me get these loaded for transportation? I have a hydraulic drop-deck trailer that literally puts the flatbed on the ground, so there's no crazy lift to do, but a 1000# metal lathe is just too much for one man to shimmy around with rollers, pipe and a pallet jack. I'm looking at December 29th or 30th, but I could float it a day or three. I'd be happy to pay for your time, or even happier to treat you to lunch, talk guns and make new friends. Merry Christmas!2 points

Correct, for purchases through Blue Label dealers (like GT Dist.) Not eligible for direct-from-Glock blue label. That requires active or retired LE/Mil creds, active penal-colony creds, or active LE recruit. https://us.glock.com/en/buy/blue-label-program2 points

I can tell I'm not one of these people because I've never been fast enough to see @Grand Torino knives still available for purchase. By the time I see them they are already sold. Usually within a few minutes.2 points

Well, I just now looked at the Poll results. We sure are a strange bunch. 90% of us think wild, gun blazing violence is suitable to be called a Christmas movie. I feel right at home with that. LOL! Actually, we all know there are a multitude of reasons for and against this choice. Music. Timing of release. Good actors. Good effects. Some comedic elements, and some really memorable actors and lines. I did vote yes...for the reasons above. It's a decent movie with an almost original idea, and it's entertaining. The actors are good. One of the better Bruce Willis movies. As for me though, I'm a big fan of the late Alan Rickman. His performance was just amazing! Loved everything I've seen him in. So that's my longwinded reasoning for voting Yes.2 points

Brand new in box -- complete upper for 9mm Sig P229, with slide and all internal parts, barrel, and recoil assembly, plus new magazine. Will also fit the M11-A1. Never mounted on a pistol frame. I bought this because I was planning to have it cut for a red-dot sight and then have two uppers for my Sig, but I've moved on to another project and am letting this go.1 point

My son-in-law sent me movies, this week, of my 14 Y O grandson using my shotguns I gave him, while shooting a duck and squirrel. He had 2 of his friends with him. Used a Mosberg 20 Ga pump for the duck, and my old 67 Y O 410 my dad purchased for me for my 8th birthday. I am 74 now. My grandson and dad are in Mt Pleasant, S Carolina. They have either been fishing or hunting every day this week while out of school for the Christmas Holiday. The boys will remember these hunts for their lifetime. I applaud my SIL for spending time with his kids.1 point

How badly is it cross threaded? You might be able to use a fine file to get it to where you can thread a device on (if it is only the last couple of threads boogered up. or do that then get a 1/2 x 28 (or whatever the thread size/pitch is) die and use it to clean them up.1 point

I have been with my agency since 2016, and we switched from Gen 4 23 to gen 5 19 MOS. The reason was a lot of our agents wanted 9mm. It wasn’t so much the recoil, ammo cost, or anything other than people just wanted new guns and the 9mm because their BUGs and alternate weapons were mostly 9mm. We had Glock 23 since the early 90s. Supposedly, we were one of the first agencies in the country to have Glock 23s; I don’t know how true it that is though. It was time for new guns considering ours were 10 years old. I carry a personally owned Glock 43x about 75% of the time. A few of our older folks have all three of their 23s. I do know the earliest Glock 23 gen 2 we had was from 1990. Most of our agents carry a personally owned weapon in plainclothes. Nowadays it is p365 or slimline Glocks. There are a few people hanging on to Glock 27s who don’t care to switch, and I know of a couple of shields. Three non-gun types agents just carry a .380. There is one Ruger EC9 used by a female, but I don’t believe she carries it often.1 point

It’s all across the spectrum. The Federal HST and Hornady Critical Duty are probably the most common. A lot of agencies are switching every year based on availability; mine has. Chattanooga PD has been running the 135 Critical Duty since going to 9mm two years ago. Every year I see less and less Speer Gold Dot in Tennessee, and I imagine it’s for the lack of availability. I see a little bit more Winchester Ranger than Remington. THP does have Winchester Ranger though.1 point

Well at 0655 I've experienced my first blackout of this event. Thankfully my coffee just finished brewing, and I just finished my first cup of said coffee. Have several Streamlight lanterns turned on and a fully charged phone. Guess I'll have another cup of coffee. Life is good. Be safe folks.1 point

I usually do not wade in on matters like this, its just a senseless crime. However, what jerks my chain, the number of what ifs if this POS was behind bars on his previous incursions of crime. The article below explains two recent priors: Such as a recent aggravated robbery, felony evading, and a separate incident in Oct for shooting another individual. Do you think the justice system has any remorse for what happened to this RK employee for failing to keep this POS behind bars? https://www.wbir.com/article/news/crime/kcso-shooting-occurs-behind-rural-king-in-halls-suspect-at-large/51-b221c0ef-c87f-41ad-ae26-47f8cf7df6a01 point

My daughter has a horse farm. I went out, at 9:00 A M with grandson, to help her get ready for the cold. Already put 2 heat lamps in her well house the day before. She has water this morning, so we were good in not freezing. Started our day by going to Kroger, Franklin Road Murfreesboro, yesterday morning and had to wait in line to check out for 20 minutes. Lines were backed up 15 deep at every checkout and the self-check outs had 25 to 30 people at both S-C-Os. Daughter didn't have time to go get her food. Got on her John Deer and put some rock in her feeding areas, has 12 horses, to elevate a mud problem. She then wanted to put out another round bail of hay so I drove to Co Op at Eagleville, and they did not have a hay cradle so put the round bale on a flat rock. She wanted and extra bail out because her tractor will be extremely hard to start at 0. Finished that so then she wanted me to drive to the "Boro" Pet Smart and purchase dog and cat food, and another 48" dog crate, and a large Igloo doghouse for a new Black Lab she got recently. Did this and then did her night feeding on pasture horses while she drove to Barney's Barnyard in college Grove to purchase horse feed for the cold spell. I got home at 7:00 P M and was totally exhausted. Had to ice down my back and neck because of lifting heavy stuff all day long. Did get some good rest last night and got up to o at 6:00 this morning. Have a plan on staying in for the duration of cold weather until Sunday church. Still will be cold but God comes first in our life. Will gladly get out to go worship Him come Sunday. Very long hard day for us yesterday. Wife was out helping also. Long day for a 74 Y O, but what are good fathers for?1 point

Wadcutters as a Self Defense Load in Snubbies I been hearing a lot about using hard-cast wadcutters in a snub nosed .38 from various sources I respect. The above is another article that gives additional info. I usually have Remington +P in my Bodyguard, but have considered going with wadcutters again as I did when I was a detective. Something around 900 fps give or take. Some +P ammo in a snubbie is almost like a .357 in recoil and flash. Plus the accuracy and ability for faster follow-up shots makes me think I may go back to wadcutters, particularly if I can find a factory load that keeps it around 900fps.1 point

While hunting today, my son and I found this buck deer skull wedged in a tree. It’s about 6’ off the ground. The side hung has 4 points on it, and has almost been chewed off by squirrels, mice, or something. The other side is already gone. It appears to have been there a while. We found no other bones around it.1 point

This is not regionally specific - the same was true in Southern California and Southeastern Arizona, where I lived previously. Especially as true gunsmiths become fewer and further between, those performing armorer work elevate themselves to the gunsmith title, lacking anyone to compare themselves to, I suppose. I am a gunsmith by trade... I founded AO Sword Firearms in San Diego, where my crew still turns out "Custom Tools with Triggers" for our customers. I've done my time behind enemy lines, though, and moved to Chattanooga with my family this year. I thought I might encounter a multitude of comrades here in the Old South, and learn a thing or two alongside the grognards. Imagine my surprise upon finding even fewer craftsmen here than in anti-gun California! I've been introduced to several people in local gun shops that the other folks call their gunsmiths. Generally when talking shop, it becomes apparent they are armorers (and not even certified armorers, usually), and I gracefully praise their expertise. To his credit, one local gunsmith was quick to qualify that he's a journeyman who does light repairs and parts replacement - and not surprisingly, upon probing I found him to be the most knowledgeable of the bunch. I have great respect for a good quality armorer - I employ two, and I would be lost without them. Nobody wants to pay gunsmith time for a job that just takes a trained armorer's hand on a $600 sight pusher, or a seasoned eye on an action bar and barrel nut wrench. I respect them all the more when they know the difference between a problem diagnoser, parts changer, and parts maker. I come from a tradition of manual mill and lathe to make parts that need replacement. $10,000+ in specialty tools just for building 1911's. Another $20,000 for all the dang vices, action wrenches, special tools, jigs, and other precious nonsense for working on bolt guns. More and more again for the full spectrum of different sized spares and the multitude of generations of lifters, followers, bushings, rings, nuts, lugs, and oh-dear-Lord the screws. In contrast, today's gunsmith seems to expect to buy a complete kit in a plastic blister box to do everything needed for the job du jour. I've already filled the weekends since I've been here with jobs for my neighbors and their kin, and I love it. I am shopping for a metal lathe, now, because there's such a need. My gunsmithing shop remains at my gun store with my apprentice in San Diego, so I'll have to establish a new one. It's like paradise out here to a shooter who has had to fight for every inch of the 2nd Amendment for the last decades. I hope y'all know how good you have it... and that you do the work to keep it. Sorry, I digress! But, I love Tennessee so much, it's distracting.1 point
