My son-in-law sent me movies, this week, of my 14 Y O grandson using my shotguns I gave him, while shooting a duck and squirrel. He had 2 of his friends with him. Used a Mosberg 20 Ga pump for the duck, and my old 67 Y O 410 my dad purchased for me for my 8th birthday. I am 74 now. My grandson and dad are in Mt Pleasant, S Carolina. They have either been fishing or hunting every day this week while out of school for the Christmas Holiday. The boys will remember these hunts for their lifetime. I applaud my SIL for spending time with his kids.5 points

My daughter has a horse farm. I went out, at 9:00 A M with grandson, to help her get ready for the cold. Already put 2 heat lamps in her well house the day before. She has water this morning, so we were good in not freezing. Started our day by going to Kroger, Franklin Road Murfreesboro, yesterday morning and had to wait in line to check out for 20 minutes. Lines were backed up 15 deep at every checkout and the self-check outs had 25 to 30 people at both S-C-Os. Daughter didn't have time to go get her food. Got on her John Deer and put some rock in her feeding areas, has 12 horses, to elevate a mud problem. She then wanted to put out another round bail of hay so I drove to Co Op at Eagleville, and they did not have a hay cradle so put the round bale on a flat rock. She wanted and extra bail out because her tractor will be extremely hard to start at 0. Finished that so then she wanted me to drive to the "Boro" Pet Smart and purchase dog and cat food, and another 48" dog crate, and a large Igloo doghouse for a new Black Lab she got recently. Did this and then did her night feeding on pasture horses while she drove to Barney's Barnyard in college Grove to purchase horse feed for the cold spell. I got home at 7:00 P M and was totally exhausted. Had to ice down my back and neck because of lifting heavy stuff all day long. Did get some good rest last night and got up to o at 6:00 this morning. Have a plan on staying in for the duration of cold weather until Sunday church. Still will be cold but God comes first in our life. Will gladly get out to go worship Him come Sunday. Very long hard day for us yesterday. Wife was out helping also. Long day for a 74 Y O, but what are good fathers for?4 points

Here's a rare one for you.... CZ 75 Compact with a rail chambered in 40 S&W. Picked this one up earlier this year in pre-owned but I believe never fired condition. (I talked to the original owner and he said he never remembered firing it and it didn't look like it) Not that it matters much since the first thing I did when I got home was put 100 rounds through it It has not been fired since and looks the part, no issues and in all original condition with two mags, box, target and warranty card. Mfg test date of 10/10/08. Only thinking about selling to help fund the purchase of a DWx. Feel free to PM with any questions. $950 I'm located in WTN, near Jackson. Will meet half-way if you are coming from the mid-Ten area.3 points

Hello Volunteers, I moved my family to Chattanooga from behind the Iron Rainbow Curtain this year; as my kids prepare to strike out on their own, I just could not saddle my future generations with million dollar starter homes, corrupt and bloated government, and a culture that runs counter to almost everything we believe in. I own and operate a successful firearms manufacturing business, full service gunsmithing operation, and retail store in CA. The state figured out a few years ago that they could not eliminate the 2nd Amendment, so instead they have cleverly attacked FFLs by increasing fees to the point where doing gun business in CA will be unsustainable. Imagine having to pay $15 every time you sold a box of ammo that you make $7 on... the math puts people out of business very quickly! I have gunsmithing staff remaining in my CA store who I trained up, and I'll be doing my own gunsmithing work from my ranch in Harrison Bay. We love Chattanooga - it feels like heaven on earth. I wonder if you folks know how good you've had it here! I'm also an avid automotive enthusiast, and I appreciate the proximity to the Appalachians and several top-notch racetracks in the region. Looking forward to the rest of our lives in Tennessee.3 points

Hi Nashville shooters, Would anyone happen to be available for an hour or two of firearms-related labor next Thursday or Friday? I'm a gunsmith, recently relocated to Chattanooga from San Diego. My shop is still active in Commiefornia, so that's where all my equipment is. As I've grown into Tennessee I have come to find that professional gunsmithing is fairly rare out here (the opposite of what I expected, moving to such a gun-friendly state). So, I have decided to buy another lathe, mill, etc. and set up another shop in my new hometown. I have a line on a mill and lathe located in the Rosebank area of Nashville. If I get it done, is there anyone who would be willing to help me get these loaded for transportation? I have a hydraulic drop-deck trailer that literally puts the flatbed on the ground, so there's no crazy lift to do, but a 1000# metal lathe is just too much for one man to shimmy around with rollers, pipe and a pallet jack. I'm looking at December 29th or 30th, but I could float it a day or three. I'd be happy to pay for your time, or even happier to treat you to lunch, talk guns and make new friends. Merry Christmas!2 points

Glad to hear you are in the area and will be adding to the community with your services. Unfortunately, I am leaving town earlier in the week. It would have been great to meet you, give a hand and see a lathe. I hope someone is available to give you a hand and if someone comes to mind, I'll reach out to them on your behalf.2 points

Welcome and Merry Christmas. Grew up in Cali and moved away from it twice. This time to TN and I LOVE IT. Been here about four and a half years. First two things to learn are: a) Don't honk at the person in front of you the second the light turns green b) Breathe, you are free now!2 points

My first thought was for the opposite condition. But just maybe being caught and tried will provide some answers and a bit of solace for the victim's family. In either case, I wish for the shooter to hang or fry! Yes, I know that's hardly likely anywhere anymore; but I long for the days of justice. Not just a slap on the wrist.2 points

Even on a slab foundation plumbing is required to be buried below the frost line. But I know of a couple that have had theirs freeze due to builders trying to save a buck. If I were worried at all I'd set a sink to a small drip and be done.2 points

Here in the West End we've been having temps in the mid-50s to low 60s for a couple of weeks now. Not bad at all. Local forecast says that Arctic Air Mess is due to arrive about 4:00 pm. Some light snow expected with temps dropping like a rock. Low tonight forecast at 5 degrees with a high tomorrow of 17. Not expected to be above freezing until at least Monday. Just so happened that I needed to stop by Kroger for a couple of small items this morning. The place was absolutely packed! People stocking up in full panic mode. So it begins. I been on the fence for years and decided to finally get one, ended up buying a CZ Bobwhite. I cannot remember the last time I had this much shooting a gun before, before I knew it, I fired almost 50 shells downrange. CZ has been impressing me with all their stuff. Going to maybe pick up a CZ Drake next and will start looking into the Brens as well. Oh, I also dropped the barrel on my foot when I was taking it apart. That was fun.1 point

Watching Lethal Weapons right now, based on a suggestion here, surprise I never realized it was a Christmas movie, even starts with Christmas music. Die Hard is still in the cue, watched it last year not sure if it will make it to the top this year. Watched Fat Man this afternoon a real Mel Gibson day.1 point

We lost power at the house this morning. I stoked the fire in the living room fireplace and carried in two loads of wood. I got out our sleeping bags. Then I gathered the wife, daughter, dog, and cat into the living room and nailed up blankets over the doorways so we were only heating that room. When the power came back on 40 minutes later, I could have felt goofy. Instead, I just felt grateful. Y'all stay safe. And merry Christmas!1 point

We have electricity, but a lot of folks up this way don’t this morning. Our electric company claims it to is due to a system overload. I’m still unsure how it’s going to work once we all have a couple of electric cars charging on top of what we normally use.1 point

I left mine set to 60, which is as low as they can be set, overnight. This morning I turned them up to my normal 72. I have a mini-split system, and I was quite concerned that it wouldn't function at or near zero degrees, but I have warm air coming out now at -5. I left all the faucets dripping last night, and they're flowing fine this morning. I'll keep them dripping for the next couple of days. I brought my dog inside [the garage] for the first time ever last night and, miraculously, she didn't poop in the crate. She was uninterested in going outside this morning, though, so poop may be in my forecast.1 point

Probably not. The ruling from the ATF I posted in your other thread is all about "engaged in the business of". But like Dustbuster said, that's a question for a lawyer. Notice that it also includes the use by an individual of the tools used by the person engaged in the business. That part of the rule stems from a CnC shop out in California that was setting up their CnC mills where a customer could come in and put their 80% lower in the machine then the customer would press the button to start the machine and out comes their completed lower. The shop was technically renting out their CnC machines, but the ATF ruling says that's close enough to manufacturing to need and FFL 07. So paying to use someone else's tools also runs afoul of the ruling. The whole 80% lower thing is sticky and getting stickier with each passing ruling. The ATF is doing whatever they can to stop them. Personally, I wouldn't touch one for someone else with a Grinch-sized 39 1/2 foot pole.1 point

I consider myself a fairly talented hobbyist. Like the OP I've read, studied and spent a small fortune on tools and special equipment to tinker with my own guns. I'm pretty good at what I know. But I, in no way, consider my self a gunsmith. Just about anybody can put a working gun together from parts. Some can do an exceptional job and make a very accurate custom gun. But can you make a spring for a 100 year old hammer double barrel? Fit a trap gun to its owner? Diagnose and repair any gun that may come through the door regardless of make, model or age? That's what real gunsmiths do every day. Its an art form that takes many years to master. Many years ago I asked a real gunsmith how to get into the trade. He said "Hang out your shingle and be prepared to pay for your mistakes."1 point
