  1. This is why I am very clear. I am an armorer (US Army armorer's school graduate) and NOT a gunsmith. I can replace drop in parts (mostly but know my limits), install most accesories, and troubleshoot/diagnose failures. I can assemble an AR from a pile of parts pretty dam quick and into spec and make it run realy well. But, I cannot machine things, hand fit, manufacture parts, engrave, ect. I agree most shops that state they have a gunsmith really have an armorer or many times less.

  3. Don't know about this one, but do you know of the new On Target Range at Old Hickory Blvd and Lebanon Road/Hwy 70? Been watching and waiting for this one. It's open. At Last! Stopped in Thursday and took a bit of a tour, met most of the staff, and inadvertly, one of the owners. I was jabbering away with a gentleman when it daawned on me that his replies were a bit different than I was expecting. LOL! Real observant of me. The conversation started over my comments on his vehicle. Don't ask me his name. I'm old and forget things easily. Anyway, I took the plunge and joined. It's nice looking, clean, and the staff were mostly people I had met before on different locations and circumstances. The proximity to me, and my disgust with Hendersonville's G&L(long story) really solidified my choice. Family membership was 399 per year. Not great, but not bad. Some of the typical perks go along with it. Discounts on rentals, purchases, and free range passes. The typical restrictions on steel core and green tip ammo. I didn't ask about reloads. Top caliber is 308, so that should cover most of my casual needs. Rifle and pistol capable of course. Sorry, I forget the complete hours and number of lanes, but seemed very much like a good place for me. I was sold. Haven't had a chance to go and shoot yet, but really looking forward to it. I had one disappointment. The staff member I spent most of the time with wasn't awar of TGO! Stunning! I tried to enlighten him. So if you go by, tell whomever you talk to of TGO and that a new member recommended the place. That certainly won't get you anything, but might make them aware of TGO and the number of potential shooters/customers in the area. Hope this might help you.

  4. Maybe it's just me but in too many gun shops today that claim to have a gunsmith, what they actually have is someone who assembles the latest and greatest tactical accoutrements to put on the tactical weapons the store pushes. Their knowledge is limited, skills slight at best, and take forever at easy stuff, but can tell you what camo is best, which armor plate you should be wearing, and how good they are with a knife. Ask them to fix a Browning Sweet Sixteen and you're greeted with a look best described as a six-year-old boy who is lost and scared. They're clueless. I'd love to see a list of knowledgeable gunsmiths around Tennessee who can do the job though maybe it's easier to find a pot of gold a drunk leprechaun lost on the way to buy gas.

  8. I usually do my own with in my limits. I've worked on all the 1911's and 2011's that I own now and in the past. I've done all of my own Trigger jobs, Thumb Saftey's, Sears and Disconnecter' on most of them. If I run into something that I can't fix with a file, honing stones, and the tools that I have for working on that platform then I'll find someone who can. I got started by completely tearing down my 1911's to see how they functioned, I've also bought some good books on them. I also did most of the work on my M1A's from bolt fitting to barrel replacements. The best advice I can offer is do your research and invest in the proper tools and books on the subject. I bought a cuple of well used 1911's to pratice on when I first got interested in being able to do my own mods and basic maintenance on them.

  9. You will love the supermoto. I don't ride anymore (at one time I never thought that I would say that) but as many motorcycles came and went my motard stayed through them all and was the last to go. I miss it more than the others as well. GLWS!

  10. This is a sweet rifle but really wanna lesson the .308 rifles I have. This is a 16” heavy fluted 308. Has a 1.5lb Timney trigger. The action is a Rem 700 trued action. The whole barreled action was done by Tim At Crescent and the McMillan Adj A-5 stock was bedded by GA Precision. Tye barrel is set up for an AEM5 (30 cal) can. The stock is molded in GAP camo. Badger rail up front and even set up for irons. What you see is what you get except for the chair. Very nice rifle. $2500 I will offer the rifle already set up as a package for another $1000 with a US Optics ST-10. Total package for $3500

  11. Kneepads look correct. MG42 is unloaded with soldiers finger on trigger. That seems staged. The front two guys also look a bit too old for fallschirmjagers. Plus the third guy is about to shoot his buddy in the back with that MP40. MP40 sling is on the wrong side of the gun.

  12. Did you end up getting it? This is a post/write up I did on my M77 over a year ago on a different forum (AKFiles). Course mine is probably 8 or 10 years old and came into the States originally in an ugly thumb hole stock. Anyway, FWIW............ My Yugo collection is almost the same as Hansellhds. Love em. Best Comblocs (I think). One day I need to line em up for a family portrait as well. I had the good fortune of picking up an M77 a few years ago already dressed in M76 furniture for $850. Put an Arsenal “two stage” in it, combo hider/brake, RSRegulate side mount and one of those Primary Arms FFP 6x BDC scopes, squared the back of the receiver and invested in Csspecs 20rd mags. I even managed to get a cleaning rod mounted under the barrel to have it present as an actual DMR (even though they never were). Probably the most I ever invested in dressing up a Barbie doll before seeing what she was like in bed ! Based on the great experience with my M48 (sniper repro wi ZRAK) and M76 I had high hopes for the 77 but I could never do better than 3+” groups making it nearly useless for the plinking fun out to 400 yds. It was horrible past 200 yds. I don’t reload and shoot mainly stockpiled new M80 and an assortment of stockpiled NATO milsurp. These various ammos have always done much better in my M1A (best), FALs, Galil, LAR8EO and others, at least satisfactory for plinking out to 400. The M77 was such a disappointment I was considering off’ing it or just shelfing it at the back of the safe BUT THEN……. The other day I happened to load up some untried Lithuanian into four empty M77 mags. The other four had Austrian STG58 NATO in em. Grabbed a random mag and went to proof the rifle on paper. I was astonished to see I was getting better than 2” groups. It was the Lithuanian. I grabbed a mag of the Austrian and sure enough it opened up to almost 4”. Back to a mag of Lith and I was hitting six outta ten on 12” steel at 400 yds. WTF !!! Maybe it was a dream? Looking forward to a next day at the range to reconfirm. Soooo, how is it all my other 762NATO rifles can do typically so much better with average milsurp ammo? That same day my M1A proofed 1.5” on PPU M80. The M77 shoots for crap for two years and outta nowhere this Lithuanian turns out to be 2” tighter than anything else I feed it. Again – WTF !!! I know some rifles “like” some ammo better than others but statistically speaking this situation is a bizarre outlier. Almost like there’s some Communist cosmic connection here between Lithuania and Serbia/Yugoslavia each once part of the USSR (and they like each other)? BTW and PS: I was coveting those M91s coming out one day and “settled” for the M77. Now, I may have dumped another $800 dollars into this thing and if she shoots 2 MOA I’ll be ecstatic but I just can’t stomach the thought of spending $2,400, $2,500 or $3,100 on what’s basically a better dressed 54r version M77 or PSL.

  19. For me the original LCP is close to perfect as a pocket pistol....with the Nemesis holster. At times I will use a Versa Carry device for waistband carry....no pockets, or pocket too small. Can't speak to the other models.

  20. Well, since you have an optic ready pistol, try it out. I definitely like the red dot. For my old eyes, I can see the dot and the sight picture without my reading glasses. In fact, the red dot works better and is in focus w/o glasses. My reading glasses (which I need to see the iron sights I focus) make the ret dot a bit blury because you eyes register it at further away than it really is.

  21. I’m with you brother. My grandfather saw to it that we knew about guns and gun safety at an early age. When polymer firearms came on the scene I resisted. My firearms had to be walnut stocked and blued metal. I didn’t own an AR or Glock for many years. After a little time in Uncle Sam’s Boy Scouts, I had to have one. I still favor my Sigs over my Glocks.

  23. You’ve had the headspace checked and it’s a no-go? If so, Enfield headspace is adjusted using a series of different sized bolt heads. Those may or may not be available…I’m not up on the used Enfield parts market.

  24. This would be the correct classification if they transferred in without an upper attached. These are receivers, not complete firearms so they are not a pistol or a rifle. That means they are 100% neutral with regards to how you choose to build them.

  25. I love 1911s, but for everyday carry I much prefer a striker fired with no external safety. There is just less to go wrong when milliseconds matter. Consistent trigger pull and no external safety to deal with.

  26. I am in the same boat as you as I carry the LCP a big portion of the time. I do not feel the need for a safety and I believe the pistol to be just as safe as any striker fired weapon out there.

  28. I'm pretty happy with my current setup for EDC - Sig P-365 XL Spectre with a Holosun 507kx2 Green optic, though I'm thinking about changing the optic to the Holsun EPS Carry when the model I want becomes available. I've carried a variety of sidearms over the years both professionally and privately. My current setup is my best compromise between firepower and comfort with 12+1 in the gun with 17 rd mag backup. I've always been a .45ACP guy. For a few years I carried a FNH FNP-45USG. 15+1 rounds or .45 ACPP goodness in a very very reliable package that feels so dang good in my hand. I love 1911s and the FN possibly felt better and I felt safer carrying it. Many times while carrying my 1911, I would discover at the end of the day, upon unholstering it that it had somehow come off safe during the day unbeknownst to me. That scared me. So when the FN came out I tried it and liked it. Problem is that its a big heavy gun and the older and more frail (LOL) I got, the more pain it caused me to carry it. That gun would eat any ammo, I swear it might eat 9mm and ,40 if I fed that to it, lmao. Anyway, to cut to the chase, I tried the 365 but i couldn't hold onto it, it was too small, then the P-365XL Spectre (Non-com) came out and I picked one up and have been happy with that so far. I could go with a smaller .45, I've even got one, a SA XDe, but with that i lose capacity. SO 9mm is what it is and the Spectre is what I like at present.

  29. For my M&P 15 Sport II, I loaded up 5 rds each for CFE 223 & H335, Sierra 62 gr. SP BT. Starline new brass, CCI primers. 22 grs +- each. @ 25yds. The H335 won out by a hair. Only very slight difference between the two . Final charge was 22.4 grs. I went with the H335, but wouldn't hesitate to use either. Actually , if I run out of H335 I'll use the CFE. Of course this is just my rifle. YMMV. Good luck pard.

  30. Service rifle shooters love Varget but hard to meter, and hard to find. H335 was an original powder for the 5.56mm cartridge, meters great, but you have to watch temperature sensitivity for competitive shooting. But for plinking its great. I load a lot of my Service rifle practice rounds for 200-300 yard stages and use H335..... FWIW

  31. TN code 39-17-1359 that enforces properly posted signs drives me nuts. I will never understand this. Anyone who is going to do something bad will not be stopped by a sign with specific sized letters. The way I see it is a business owner should be allowed to post a sign and if they see me carrying they can ask me to leave or I will be trespassed - I would happily leave with no issues. It creates "soft spots" if nothing else. Law abiding citizens are the only ones who will even think about honoring a sign and those are the people who are not the threat. I have emailed lawmakers in the state and hope one day they will realize how dumb it is. Even if they made the sign only apply to permitless carriers at least it would be a small step forward, even though I believe it should not apply to anyone.

  34. Sure, Retirement. 52 years old, 18 years of Federal Service (Army and Civilian) and counting. Seeking out a place to enjoy my pension and retirement in the next few years. No family left any longer (family had sold off the mountain properties and what not over the years). For the wife (from ranchland of Oregon) and I (mountains of Idaho), parents had passed, extended family not really close. Army burned me of deserts. All of Southern Idaho is desert. Snow. Got too old to really want to deal with snow and months of sub-zero temperatures. Playing in the snow (snowmobiles) required a 3-hour drive from the Boise valley. Crime. MS13 moved in with the Californians and brought daily gang shootings (red vs. blue) at the convience stores, drug deals over my back fence and local LE had no clue how or desire to deal with it. Home invasions, car thefts, heavy (why we live in Stewart County now) also, I feel safer driving in Nashville now than I did in the Boise Metro area. Water. Lakes there are crap, at least the lowland ones. Wanted to live near more natural water and natural green(refernce the desert comment above). Longer warm weather. We like riding motorcycles and more summer activities than winter. Had an Army buddy settle here from his time at Ft. Campbell. We visited a few times and Stewart County reminds me alot of the small county I grew up in. Property value (Don't hate me over this one becuase I know it is an evil we helped perpetuate.) We sold our urban, suburb, 1200 sq ft house on 1/8 acre that we still owed on and had enough left over to pay cash for 2 acres, 1800 sq ft, build a shop, pay off the cars, pay cash for a new bike, used boat, and stuff a bunch of money in the bank. So that's it.
