Marlin 99M1. Got it for Christmas when I was 12. Its the same action as the Model 60, but with a 16" barrel and made to resemble a M1 Carbine. Great little rifle. I fell on hard times in the 80s and foolishly sold it. But I have replaced it since then. This one ain't going nowhere.3 points

You are correct, sir. I only saw the good side of his rack, and he was chasing a doe, so I didn’t have time for judging; just shooting. Big buck; ugly rack. Weather was perfect. I’ll take it!3 points

I have a BB gun, but do not shoot it on a regular basis. Probably would be good for trigger finger discipline.2 points

Pawpaw’s Remington 550-1 in .22. I was 14, I’m now 65. It’s still shoots great and looks like new.2 points

My father went to our local Ace Hardware and ordered me a brand new H&R 058 Topper with two interchangeable barrels. One is a 20 gauge with modified choke, the other chambered in 30-30 Winchester. I still have the gun and box. That combo has accounted for a lot of game through the years. I need to dig it out of the back of the safe and hunt with it again sometime. I was 10 at the time. I remember him paying $100.2 points

Welcome. It's always good to have good gunsmiths. You might want to check with TGO David about becoming an official TGO vendor.2 points

Beautiful shotgun with light handling marks. Serial number puts it at a 1977 manufacture. Has magazine cutoff option. Includes original owners manual and I'll throw in the case as well. I hate to let this one go, but the fact is, I don't shoot this one well. I picked up something else and need to free up some room in the safe and bank account. $650 no trades please. FTF in Lebanon, TN. I also travel to Nashville weekly and the entire midstate sporadically, so if I'm a little bit far just ask, I may be headed your way soon. Price lowered to $600 FIRM.1 point

Hello Volunteers, I moved my family to Chattanooga from behind the Iron Rainbow Curtain this year; as my kids prepare to strike out on their own, I just could not saddle my future generations with million dollar starter homes, corrupt and bloated government, and a culture that runs counter to almost everything we believe in. I own and operate a successful firearms manufacturing business, full service gunsmithing operation, and retail store in CA. The state figured out a few years ago that they could not eliminate the 2nd Amendment, so instead they have cleverly attacked FFLs by increasing fees to the point where doing gun business in CA will be unsustainable. Imagine having to pay $15 every time you sold a box of ammo that you make $7 on... the math puts people out of business very quickly! I have gunsmithing staff remaining in my CA store who I trained up, and I'll be doing my own gunsmithing work from my ranch in Harrison Bay. We love Chattanooga - it feels like heaven on earth. I wonder if you folks know how good you've had it here! I'm also an avid automotive enthusiast, and I appreciate the proximity to the Appalachians and several top-notch racetracks in the region. Looking forward to the rest of our lives in Tennessee.1 point

Greetings and salutations, Somehow despite all of my Google Fu, I've never managed to find this forum until now. Live in Chattanooga, born here but moved away and came back a little over 7 years, but family has been in this area for generations. Raised in MO, came to Nashville for college and lived in Mid TN (Spring Hill specifically) from about 2003 until I got tired of all the insane growth and couldn't resist the mountains calling me home. I'm an AR-15 nerd and can probably bore just about anyone to tears talking about them. Recently got certified as an AR-15 armorer and I'm happy to share my opinions or knowledge. Finally got off the bench and started taking training classes in 2020 and I'm hooked. Working to improve my pistol shooting now. If you catch me with my pistol, you've got decent odds, but I'm hell on wheels if I get to my trusty Bravo Company Manufacturing AR .1 point

I did have a Red Rider back in the mid 70’s. I wish it was still around. We used to sit on my best friends deck and shoot the carpenter bees flying in the garden.1 point

I’ve never had a Red Ryder but every year around this time when I go to Walmart I sure do think about it. Thing is BB’s are dangerous as hell. I hate to sound like my mother but them things are unpredictable. When I feel the need to start shooting at home I’ve got an old Winchester 67A with a ridiculous 27” barrel and a couple of boxes of Aguila Super Colibris out in the garage. That combo is way quieter and safer than a BB gun, lol.1 point

Concerning only handgun in non-magnum calibers. Belonged to both ORSA and Gattlinburg Sportsman's Club. After four or five years, don't go to ORSA anymore as it is too far away (Sevierville). With that said, you have greater flexibility for setting up steel or USPCA/IDPA cardboard targets at ORSA. GSA setup is fairly static but still very nice. I have spent many a morning out there chronographing or just trying out different rounds plinking steel. Usually I am the only person there (weekday mornings). There is a little flexibility in target setup at GSA but your not going to move around like on a IDPA/USPCA course. You can that with ORSA, IF qualified. Feel free to contact if you have further questions. GSA does a very good introduction session upon request. https://www.gatlinburgsportsman.com/1 point

I'd suggest the largest, heaviest semiauto handgun you can stand to carry and hold. Think more along the lines of a full size or Tactical (e.g. Glock 17 or 34 rather than the G19 you mentioned). Better yet, choose an all-metal gun with the accompanying increase in weight and rigidity. The additional weight and barrel length will put physics in your favor vs. recoil and muzzle rise. Static inertia and lever moment arm are greatly improved with a heavier handgun and longer barrel. There's also more real estate for your less-than-precision left hand to get comfortable with a supporting grip.1 point

Welcome To Tennessee. There is a reason I call it “The Great State” every time I cross back into its borders. Do you have a particular gunsmithIng focus? Or do you do all forms of work?1 point

I just made a cross-country trip from Nov 9-15. On the way out, the airports were normal. On the return flights, the three airports we passed through had all been decorated! It was fun to see the transition.1 point

Moped: my technique is very similar to your's. However I eject the empties with my left thumb while the right hand reaches for the spare ammo. This is just a hair faster as it saves that ejection movement of the right hand.1 point

Once you bring them back here you could sell them here on the forum pretty easily. There are some nice guns in that collection.1 point

No less safe than a double action revolver that is loaded and uncocked. Don’t pull the trigger and it cannot fire.1 point

My wife loves Christmas even more than I do and last year she put up the tree before Thanksgiving, and nothing bad happened. This year we're in a new house and we have room for two trees, and they're both up already. Outside decorations probably going up in the next few days. I understand that some see the holiday as a commercialized greedfest. We choose to see it as a celebration of friends and family, an opportunity to reflect on the many gifts we have been given from above, and a time for fond recollection of Christmases past. Plus, some years I get a new gun. Life is good and we are richly blessed. Cheers, Whisper1 point

Not much interest/conversation on this forum. Updating thread to close out here but continuing to play with 223 in 22wmr or 5.7 range without expense of another platform. Changed buffer to the short strike industries pistol tube with guts that come with it, rest as above. Cartridge OAL was shortened to recommendation in Speer #14. Looking for reliable bottom and ejection isn’t forceful but consistent with fast fire. Brass was mixed demil because 2022, sorted head stamp for groups below. Plenty of room up from here and shooting 62gn at 2440fps AA2230 out of this setup with acceptable timing so not a dedicated setup like buffer mod mentioned above. Put on paper at 100 yards, no magnification and good results. Unknown 62gn BTSP 12.5 gn AA5744 ten shot avg 1510 es33 sd9 bump to 13gn nine shots avg 1554 es23 sd9 Speer 1053 70gn 13gn AA5744 five shots avg 1499 es16 sd7 Had some trouble with oal on Speer 1029 50gn but with SI pistol buffer noted above 13gn of 5744 velocity 1615 fps cycled fine on ten rounds at shorter oal but run out was jamming so had to sort to get through, pulling rest for retry will slowly try other runs and tweak At the cost of AA5744 the reduced charge isn’t saving anything. But good option for semi auto youth loads1 point

The .40 has turned into a niche round. It has a small, but very loyal following. I tried it, didn't care for it.1 point

Agree. Has to be the most "dis-respected" caliber in existence and I don't get it. I absolutely love my Sig P229 in .40. Very nice round but gets no love.1 point

I don't think there is an end all, be all revolver. But I don't think there is a end all, be all semi-auto either. Whatever revolver that feels and shoots the best for you is what you should get. Personally, I find the SP101 too heavy for carry, with only a five shot capacity. True, it's built like a tank, and it may have the fewest working parts, but I would hazard a guess that 99% of us have zero need to every take a revolver apart to work on one. I'm 59 years old and I never have. My first revolver was a S&W Model 13 with a 4" barrel. It was a good accurate revolver. So was Model 10 that was a TDOC trade-in. So was the Ruger GP100 6" in SS and the several SP101s I've owned over the years. Along with the S&W Model 36 and 38. Really loved the little Colt Agent, but I traded it away for Mossberg 590 shotgun. Also had a little S&W Model 32 that was an accurate little snubbie. The last two are the ones I most regret trading away. Right now I have a S&W 442 and a Taurus 627 Tracker. Love both of those and am perfectly happy. But I hazard another guess and will say that both of those are very libel to be traded away on something else, at some point. But I'd be happy with any of those that I listed above.1 point

So painfully obvious that it's been done again and again over history. Having a FRED account lets me play around with this stuff, so I took a quick few minutes to chart the two basic metrics of the Federal Funds Effective Rate, and Inflation on an annual frequency. Basically anytime inflation has gotten out of control, or in some cases even out of line, the Fed has had to raise interest rates up to or higher than the prevailing inflation rate. So, I don't know what hopes people have for some magic wand solution instead of tough medicine by the spoonful. Here's a spoiler of how the Fed meetings are going to be for a while longer.... As "Joliet" Jake Blues said, hit it.1 point

I’m sure a lot of you recognize this range. Undoubtedly the best group I have ever shot at 100 yds. Using 6.5cm for 8 rounds.1 point
