  1. I think I've shared it before, but this was my grandfather's duty gun when he was a police officer back in the 60's. Smith & Wesson Model 19. He left it to my dad and I inherited it when my dad passed away. This is one of those guns that my kids will inherit one day, and hopefully their kids as well.

  2. Well, my buddy is back today. She’s grown a lot, but still wears out quickly. I think we’ll make good friends if she stays here much.

  3. As classy as the Security Six is, I have to vote for the 686. This one is a -3 made about 30 years ago.

  4. IMHO it would be the older pre-lock S&W L-frame 586/686. This gun was designed specifically for the .357 Cartridge. The older K-frame was nice to carry, but proved to be a bit light in both strength and weight for continuous use of Magnum ammo. The N-frame was plenty strong enough for whatever ammo you wanted to use. However, it is a big, heavy gun. S&W designed the L-frame to be beefy enough for any magnum ammo and still be readily carried. its the perfect .357 revolver. Just for the record, I'm also a big fan of the old Ruger Security Six line. But Ruger stupidly quit making them a long time ago. Never cared much for the GP-100 or the SP-101. They just feel clunky to me. But then if you truly want the best of the best and can afford the price : Korth!

  7. What's weird about it? Individual stockholders, 401k, 403b and pension plans are getting value. The local Shell gas retailer in the US is far removed from the foreign corp offices. Best I can tell, revenue is not all derived from oil refined into gasoline, but I am not an expert analyst. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these oil companies operate on about a 7% margin, I call it the Walmart game - don't try for millions of dollars, simply make zillions of pennies. Perhaps if .gov didn't makes more per gallon from taxes on a gallon of gas than everyone else in the supply chain, prices are the pump may be lower.

  11. It's weird because people keep blaming the POTUS for this issue while ignoring the fact that big oil is intentionally limiting supply and inflating prices. They are doing all they can to continue making record profits. I'm fairly certain this is happening all the way down to the local level too. We are still paying inflated prices in Knoxville compared to rural areas. I'm sure you've noticed. Biden is a confused old idiot but we would be dealing with this same issue if someone else was in office. It's a global commodity and there is only so much that domestic policy can influence.

  12. So, after listing several guns here for sale, I'm surprised that this is the only one left, because I had thought it was priced to move: Sig M11-A1, excellent condition, with box and everything it came with, including the wonderful lock. The gun is shown with E2 grips but the original grips are also included. It’s simply an outstanding firearm. Three magazines. SOLD

  15. Well, after an abscence, I'm slowing showing my hand, as it were, here again. Not that more than a few old geezers like myself noticed or wondered where I'd gone. Had some things happen this year that have altered my thoughts, perceptions, and actions. Seems to really have changed my outlook on most things that had been "normal" for me for quite some time. I realize we've all had changes because of Covid 19 and all the insanity that came with it. My very simple life wasn't really affected that much by it. Pretty much was a stay-at-home sort anyway. However, other things crept in afterwards, and caused me to withdraw from about everything around me. Not really wanting, or ready to talk about them; just suffice it to say that I've made a lot of changes this year. Some good, some bad, but all necessary for life to continue. Don't know if I'll ever get back to the easygoing smartass I've been, but going to try and rejoin my friends here. If you'll allow me. See quite a few new handles, so not sure how it will all go; but I'm going to try. I want thank those who checked in on me. It was greatly appreciated. Good to know that I was known and remembered. I just hope I wasn't too much of a jerk when you did try and contact me. Thanks for reaching out. I think I needed that. Don't think I'll ever return to virtually living here as I once did, but hope to keep in contact with the forum and my friends here. Larry/aka hipower

  17. My 2 year old falls asleep on RZR rides pretty consistently. He spends more time asleep than awake on riding days. Bed time with a nice bed and a sound machine it takes him an hour to go to sleep. 3 minutes bouncing down rough trails with a loud exhaust and he's out.

  18. Personally, I love the Colt Python. But, due to the cost of getting one, it is tough. So, I would echo the endorsement of the Ruger SP-101 earlier mentioned.

  20. Had a studio player on Music Row telling me about a night he was recording and JLL went out in the alley on a late night break and they heard gunshots, went out to see what was going on and he was target shooting at a neighbors garbage can with his 1911 .45 Auto and they hustled him inside before Police showed up.

  23. I don't think there is an end all, be all revolver. But I don't think there is a end all, be all semi-auto either. Whatever revolver that feels and shoots the best for you is what you should get. Personally, I find the SP101 too heavy for carry, with only a five shot capacity. True, it's built like a tank, and it may have the fewest working parts, but I would hazard a guess that 99% of us have zero need to every take a revolver apart to work on one. I'm 59 years old and I never have. My first revolver was a S&W Model 13 with a 4" barrel. It was a good accurate revolver. So was Model 10 that was a TDOC trade-in. So was the Ruger GP100 6" in SS and the several SP101s I've owned over the years. Along with the S&W Model 36 and 38. Really loved the little Colt Agent, but I traded it away for Mossberg 590 shotgun. Also had a little S&W Model 32 that was an accurate little snubbie. The last two are the ones I most regret trading away. Right now I have a S&W 442 and a Taurus 627 Tracker. Love both of those and am perfectly happy. But I hazard another guess and will say that both of those are very libel to be traded away on something else, at some point. But I'd be happy with any of those that I listed above.

  29. The New York State Rifle and Pistol Club v. Bruen brought to light for the general public that government can not arbitrarily deny a 2nd Amendment right to a non-criminal citizen "just because". From that case: "the “textual elements” of the Second Amendment’s operative clause— “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”—“guarantee the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation.” In a subsequent case in Tennessee (Columbia Housing & Redevelopment Corp. v. Kinsley Braden, M2021-00329-COA-R3-CV) the Tennessee Court of Appeals ruled that that right can not be taken or given away by mere agreement, hence the reckoning of the terms unalienable (can't be taken from a person) and indefeasible (can't give away willfully, stuck like glue) and why they are important in our constitutions. Even though the plaintiff signed an agreement saying he would not keep arms in that housing unit, the Court found that government can not take that right away and he could not give it up. If the general public knows this now, why does the General Assembly of Tennessee not? In the Buren arguments before the Supreme Court, The Solicitor General of Washington DC told the Court that Tennessee passed a law in1821 that was still on our books making it a crime to carry a loaded firearm. The SCOTUS has ruled that unconstitutional. Contact your State Senators and tell them YOU know the facts and intend to hold them to their oath which says they solemnly swear (or affirm) that as a member of this General Assembly, they will, in all appointments, vote without favor, affection, partiality, or prejudice; and that they will not propose or assent to any bill, vote or resolution, which shall appear to them injurious to the people, or consent to any act or thing, whatever, that shall have a tendency to lessen or abridge their rights and privileges, as declared by the Constitution of this State. Make your voice heard, call your candidates for office in Tennessee today and alert them that you know the truth and expect them to act accordingly.

  30. To further understand the path we are on via Bruen, this from Justice Thomas: "A final word on historical method: Strictly speaking, New York is bound to respect the right to keep and bear arms because of the Fourteenth Amendment, not the Second. When the people adopted the Fourteenth Amendment into existence, they readopted the original Bill of Rights,…the public understanding of the right to keep and bear arms in both 1791 and 1868 was, for all relevant purposes, the same with respect to public carry.” If we are truly to read the Amendments in the context of the meaning they were to be understood by at the time of their writing, then a number of later day restrictions are in fact unconstitutional as well. For instance, there was no prescription for denying the Right to arms to a infamous criminal if he had served his time and been released. (I remember reading that Jackson emptied the prisons in LA if the criminals agreed to bear arms against England). I am not sure there was even such a thing as a dishonorable discharge, most likely if they needed to drum a soldier out they hung or shot them??? One must consider that if the 2nd protects "the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation.", does not that right extend to confrontation by government, which at the time of the writing and adoption of the Amendments, was the whole point of their construction. Our State Constitution plainly says the People are in charge and have the absolute power to alter, reform or abolish the government in such manner as they may think proper. Your General Assembly and every LE Department are mere servants of the People, tax payer paid employees and are to act in accordance with the Constitution, it is in their Oath, they swear or affirm to do so.

  31. Bought my 80+ year old house in 2005. It was originally built without electricity or plumbing, which was added later. Old cloth covered wiring, no junction boxes, wires just twisted together with no tape, wire nuts, or anything, only 4 circuits. I don't know how it did not burn down. I replaced the old 60 amp fuse box with a new 200 amp breaker box, pulled new wire, added receptacles, switches, etc. Plumbing was cast iron and black pipe (not even galvanized), which I also replaced. Two thirds of the crawl space it less than a foot from dirt to joists. Added central heat & air and had to dig trench for trunk ducts. The old gas floor furnace I removed was actually in a hole about 1.5' deep. Nothing is square, level, or plumb. I don't think the builders even knew what a tape or rule was, much less how to use them. Joists and studs may be 1' apart or 2.5' apart. Framing is all rough cut full dimension lumber. All interior walls, floors, and ceilings are 1" tongue and groove, so I guess that is what makes the structure so solid. Support beams all run to base of chimney in center of house which has settled over 1" over time. If you drop a marble anywhere, it will roll to center of house. Doors and windows are nowhere close to a standard size. Any replacement means either framing in or cutting out opening. Any project that would normally take an hour or two turns into a day or more ordeal. And of course maintenance is a constant chore. My wife loves it, but I'm getting too old for this crap.

  34. News is our president will dip deeper into our strategic oil reserve to calm price hikes again. Jeez this concerns me for two reasons. It fools people into thinking we had a competent energy policy and this is all Putin's fault. People forget prices were going up before Ukraine Secondly....it's a strategic oil reserve! We just might need that for something else than helping boost poll numbers.
