Like to introduce myself and say I am glad to be apart of this group. Bought a house last year and we recently moved to Morristown after I retired earlier this year. I lived in NC my entire life. Have visited TN most of my life and always wanted to move especially after the last few years of the liberal ideas of NC governments! Glad to be a true TN resident now where it seems most share the same values, morales and thoughts as I.2 points

I just purchased a Hellcat RDP from a sketchy guy! BUT!!!! I believe it has a quality RDS on it. I put just a few rounds through it this past weekend and kept doing the same thing as before which is being distracted by it. I hope to get out this weekend and practice with it to try and get comfortable with one If I can get over myself then I mat have to decide which to get. If not hopefully the wife can learn with one. I'm hard headed some so I will try and try a few more times to see what happens. PS....I know where and how NOT to get one!!!!1 point

Best value in reels in my opinion is Pflueger. Just skip the low end Trion line. I have 7 or 8 of the President and Supreme series and they are all rock solid and smooth. Never had any issue out of them. I do have Penn stuff I use in the salt, primarily surf casting, all solid as well. Side note Penn and Pflueger are both owned by Pure Fishing (and Shakespeare following the merge). My rods are all over the place so I can't offer a lot of help on them. Some I bought new, some I have because I found a killer deal on them used. I do have some older Penn Fierce stuff for salt. I have some Okuma and Trout Magnet SLS ultralight stuff that is solid. I have some St. Croix, Abu Garcia Vengence (low to mid range rod), and some Lew's. I have some Diawa and Okuma travel rods as well. I do not have any complaints about any of it. If it is a known quality brand and not their bottom of the line offering it is going to be solid in most respects. It is more about picking the weight, length, and action to match your target, conditions, and bait type. Probably my least favorite rod is the Abu Garcia but even it is not "bad", it just has a little less "feel" then other offerings. For fresh water I lean toward the ultralight stuff more than the heavy or fast work covering lots of water like the bass guys tend to do. That is mostly because I Kayak, wade, and shore fish almost exclusively. I am just fine catching pan/sun fish or trout on 2lb line especially when I am catching 10 to every 1 of the 2+ lb bass a bass fisherman might catch. I do like a good smallie fight though. I have even lightened up my surf and salt gear a bit. Now it is rare that I use anything over a 2500 size reel when casting bays or intercostals flats for reds. I even run 2500's and 3000's in the surf for pompano. That goes a bit against the conventional wisdom of 4000 and 5000 size reels with 30 ~ 50 lb line but it has never stopped me from catching fish successfully. Just renewed my Florida annual and am itching to get back down for a trip. I have not fished nearly enough this year, there or here at home.1 point

My only question is why .308 bullets? Isn't the bore on that AK .311? Did you have any difficulty with seating and setback?1 point

I've done a good bit of hiking out there and hunted it 20 plus years ago. I would consider it to be pretty safe. There is decent cell coverage throughout the park. Worse comes to worse. You're a phone call away from help that should get there quickly.1 point

Let’s clear the air on one thing real quick. The SN on the barrel or slide mean jack all in this case. ATF requires any manufacturer to engrave their name and serial into the firearm which, in the case of a P80, is the frame. Same as any handgun. The fact that barrels, slides, and frames carry a serial number is only based upon tracking of the major components through the manufacturing process and to help in quality control.1 point

I don't have a place of my own, and likely don't have the time to get out for a squirrel hunt, but Cedar Forest on the West Side of Highway 231 right across from Cedars of Lebanon State Park would give you access to about 2500 mostly wooded acres just a short drive from Murfreesboro. If you aren't familiar with the area, you can park along the access road and walk in wherever you like. Most of the roads loop back into the main road. It is mentioned in the TWRA hunting guide, but difficult to find information about what type of permits are needed. The link given in the regulation guide does not work. I did find a contact number for Richard Saltsman, who is listed on the state website as the public contact for Cedar Forest good phone number is 615-443-2768 and his email is Richard.Saltzman@tn.gov. He should be about to tell you exactly what is required.1 point

I think they already did. 4.25" barrel? I'd think this set up would be better with a full 5" barrel. A fat, heavy Commander size just doesn't make sense. You'd have to add suspenders to keep your pants up. 17 & 20 round mags? Good grief, the mag probably weighs as much as a standard 1911. 2 piece FLGR? Nope, that'll have to go. Damn things come unscrewed at the worst possible times. Plastic grip frame? Aw Hell NO! I own a Para-Ordnance double stack 1911 and honestly don't care much for it. The wide grip and extra weight just throws the whole feel and balance of the gun off. It just don't feel like a 1911. I'm a huge fan of Springfield Armory and own 4 of their 1911s. But I have no interest in this thing.1 point

We lost our Dad on December 5 last year. Back in 1972 my brother and Dad were selling donuts for the Scouts. Ran up on a man selling raffle tickets for a rifle. A deal was made, Dad bought a ticket and the man bought a box of donuts. Well the man called and Dad had won. My Dad never liked firearms so the rifle was put for a a few years. When I got older we would beg to get the rifle out and shoot. I moved off and had a family as well as my brothers and sister. The rifle was put up and forgot about. My brother got the rifle and asked me to get some ammo up so we could shoot. Well being a hand loader I had some cast and powder coated lead. Found the brass, dies and went to loading some up. On Fathers day this year my brother gave me the rifle. He and our other brother had talked about giving it to me for Fathers Day. We shot it for the first time in 35 years or more. This past Saturday my son and myself went to OK Corral to shoot. Here are is the target, now it is hard for me to see that well with iron sights, but I will say I did think I did just fine with a 50 year old rifle and my 63 year old eyes and untested loads. The hits in the red are off a rest to get crono numbers, the rest are seated off hand. The rifle has some age and a few "beauty marks".1 point
