Prepping is a good idea for anyone, but in the long run it’s futile unless you’re going to take to the ocean. Long term, supplies and ammo will dwindle giving invaders more opportunity to overrun your compound and take what little you have left. There aren’t going to be any winners in a global collapse.3 points

My 2002 Ford F350 would pull a 15,000lb trailer across the country tomorrow. Without question. What I have had a problem with over the years is Chevrolet's. Overheating transmissions, electrical problems, etc.2 points

You wouldn't, even if Weirich were still the DA. Most violent criminals don't get life, either. However, Mulroy implies that first-time violent offenders (like Abston in 2000) do not "particularly deserve a strong response." That is a step in the wrong direction.2 points

I've posted my thoughts numerous times on TGO about red dot optics on handguns. I am not an early adopter but I have been on this journey now for about six years and easily have 25-30,000 rounds downrange in classes and leisure shooting with optics on maybe 8-10 different handgun platforms. Suffice it to say that I'm not new at this. IMO, optics on handguns are not the future. They are the present. They are here and now and are already mainstream among serious practitioners of the gun. The advantages far outweigh any disadvantages that still remain despite the rapidly evolving technologies in use. They provide increased speed of target acquisition, improved target and periphery awareness, improved target tracking and allow higher degrees of accuracy than iron sights do. Since the dawn of man when the first person picked up a rock or a stick and hurled it at an animal they were hunting or an adversary they were fighting, we used a single plane for sighting and aligning for the throw. We looked at the target. Rocks and spears don't come with a front sight and a rear sight. We looked at the thing we wanted to hit, we tracked its movement if there was any, and our brains and bodies did the rest through prioperception. Red dots allow us to do the same thing. We don't have to process three planes of a sight picture to use them. We don't use the complicated equation of rear sight (first plane), front sight (second plane) and target (third plane) for our eyes, brains and bodies to coordinate between. We look at the target, we see the dot, we pull the trigger. If you're still stuck in an iron sights world, my condolences. If you've tried a red dot and it "didn't work for you"... you might need a competent trainer to help you unlearn your old ways and learn the better way. It's not the optic, it's you. And the only thing wrong with that is not accepting that fact and working past it. The dot is the way.2 points

Ultra reliable, very solid shotgun. It's not in perfect condition & it has been well used. There is some freckling to the receiver, a 2" crack in the forend & some swelling around the buttstock. I bought it 11 years ago & it had been stood in a flooded basement. None of these flaws affect its function whatsoever, & the forearm crack is barely noticeable. I had a silver mid-rib bread installed 7 or 8 years ago. 3" chamber & I have 6 chokes to go with it. Rem Imp Cyl Rem Mod Rem Full Rem Full (steel) Bailey Mod (installed, patterns far better than the Rem) Trulock .675 Turkey (tungsten) I've shot hundreds of rounds of sporting clays with this gun & killed a truckload of birds with it. Cleaned meticulously after every outing & the has system O rings replaced annually. It has literally not once malfunctioned. She's a beautiful gun with a few miles on her is all. $650 seems like a very fair price for this, taking the faults into account.1 point

For any of the fellas that were curious, I ended up buying a Woodland Mills sawmill. The company, their service, shipping, and the mill itself have been great. The only thing that would have been better was if they offered a larger mill. But, at their price point they can’t be beat in my mind.1 point

I hate you guys! Y'all are bad for my wallet!!! I found a 9mm takedown model (not a Backpacker) on Gun Broker, that just happened to be local. So I went lunch and looked at it. It's used and doesn't have the Glock Mag adapter ($32 from Ruger), but it's in great condition. So it's now in layaway. Also comes with a sling. Here it is. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/9457131311 point

As a refuge from New Yorkistan I am very grateful we now live in Tennessee. I was looking at this law they passed in NYS and it is so vague and broad its hard to tell what is what. A friend of mine passed several years ago and had an AR-15, which had to be registered. NYS law prohibits his wife from having the rifle ( its a felony) !! It now resides in Tennessee.1 point

That looks like a roll pin for the extractor. Can you tap it flush? It should then be all but flush on the underside of slide. If it is sticking out on the bottom when flush on top, it may be too long for the optic cut. But my guess is it will be flush at the bottom once flush at the top.1 point

I’ve never been in trouble with the law. I would hope that if I ever had a first offense that was non-violent I wouldn’t be put away for the rest of my life.1 point

Here's a free bump for a great pistol. If it weren't so far and I didn't have so many P-Series already, I'd do this. Guys this is a pretty good deal on what is one of the best operating Semi-Auto pistols that Ruger ever made. I reload 9mm and 45acp and my P90 will eat all my reloads and even all kinds of 45acp FMJ's and HP's. Great gun !1 point

An old biker taught me a great trick for washing your bike the other day. Instead of fussing with a chamois cloth, just blow dry it with a leaf blower. Ya’ll probably know this already, but I was glad to learn it, so I posted it in case somebody else out there is as dumb as I am. LOL1 point

I picked up a rifle from a wonderful member of this forum last week. The rifle is way too nice for me honestly. It's intended use will be riding on my side by side or 4 wheeler, which in my experience is one of the roughest things you can do to a gun. I did what I could, I ordered some self adhesive medical pre wrap tape (available on Amazon in a variety of camp patterns and solid colors). I paid $8.50 for 4 rolls and used 2 on the rifle. I'll probably order several more and do some of my other rifles as well. If you aren't familiar, the tape is non adhesive but sticks to itself. I believe it will do a good job protecting against dings and scratches. 20 years ago I would have bought a wood stocked rifle and just used it, but as expensive as they have gotten I'll do what I can to keep them in good shape.1 point

FOLKS... BE WARNED AND BE AWARE! The conversations shown above are actual messages that some of our members have received via Private Messaging from people who are attempting to scam them. These are just a few examples. The routine is almost always the same. Someone with a new account and low-to-no post count will message you privately about something you posted in our Trading Post forms, and either tell you that they know someone who has the item you want to buy, or that they know someone who wants to buy the item you are selling. REPORT ANY SUCH MESSAGES TO THE MODERATORS, IMMEDIATELY! Again, these are just examples and not every person who contacts you about your ad postings is going to be a scammer, but you should always trust your gut instincts. If something seems fishy, there is no harm in reporting it to the Staff before you take any further action. We are always glad to investigate for you! Be safe out there!1 point

5.45x39 is more expensive and tougher to find than 7.62x39. It has better terminal ballistics than 5.56 and higher BC so it shoots further. Very mild recoil in AK74s. I have both and really enjoy shooting the 74 but I cannot say I prefere one over the other. Most 47 accesroies will fit a standard 74 with a few exceptions. Surplus magazines are more expensive but Magpull makes decent ones for a good price. Every gun shop looks at you funny when you ask about 5.45x39. "don't you mean 7.62x39?" is very common, as is front counter guy shouting to somone in the back "we have any 5.45x39?" with the answer most always being "you mean 7.62x39?" so get used to that. Once in a while you meet the "other guy who has a AK74" who smiles and knows right what you are talking about. That all said, I do ok at gunshows recently on 5.45 except for some fools who have it jacked way up in price. Best deals are online, about 40 cents per even today if you look. They operate just like a 47. different size parts is all. Some early Century guns used 5.56 barrels and tend to keyhole so watch for that. I can tell by some subtle changes it is a modernized AK when compared to my 47's. On reloading, Hornady makes dies. Brass is unobtainium though. So are bullets. Nobody has load data so I have dies I have never used. I did clear out the last place I knew with bullets (surplus pulls) and have a bunch of 222 rem brass to convert and do plan to work up a load. With ammo being the way it is I am hopefull the reload market will start supporting it soon. I hope that gives you some decent info.1 point
