  7. I have quite a bit of experience with dot guns and feel the advantages they offer CCW types are a little exaggerated. They are quite useful for some. Arms getting too short and the front sight is harder to use? Try a dot. Worried about making a rushed headshot on an active shooter 50 yards away? A red dot will improve your odds. They are somewhat easier to use in low/no light. Other than that, ho-hum. From my experience, they are offer no more speed or accuracy inside 8-10 yards, where probably 95% of defensive shooting occurs. Much of the supposed advantage of dots is based on misconceptions about irons. The rear sight is not nearly as critical as some make it out to be. A three dot setup presents a cluttered-up sight picture that makes aiming slower and more complicated. A plain black rear sight with a fairly wide notch makes the process much more straightforward. Most iron sight shooting does not require one to focus on the front sight. In fact, all the rage in the action pistol competitive shooting world lately is the realization that many iron sight shooters can get away with focusing on the target all the time at nearly any range. This is blasphemy to some, but it is being trained and taught by the some of the best draw-and-shoot-the-target-several-times-quick/fast/in a hurry shooters in the world. This does not mean they are not using the front sight. Col. Cooper would probably roll over in his grave, but you can’t argue with results. Go get a red dot. They are neat and fun. They are a lot more reliable than they used to be. But the predictions about the soon-to-be extinction of iron sights are a bit premature.

  11. Leupold Mk5 HD 5-25x56 CCH Reticle MRAD / MIL Excellent condition! There’s a small rub mark where the coating has worn thin on the windage knob cover (pictured), and a little on the scope cap, other than that, no marks. And Leupold has an excellent warranty should any incidents or accidents ever occur. Glass is amazing and extremely clear, tracking is spot on - I’ve verified out to 1250 yards. It’s been lightly used on a rimfire rifle. Only selling because I sprung for the bigger 7-35 Mk5. Asking $1700 for the optic. Can include a nice Griffin SPRM 35mm mount for an extra $180. Located in Brentwood/Nolensville/South Nashville area.

  14. I picked up a rifle from a wonderful member of this forum last week. The rifle is way too nice for me honestly. It's intended use will be riding on my side by side or 4 wheeler, which in my experience is one of the roughest things you can do to a gun. I did what I could, I ordered some self adhesive medical pre wrap tape (available on Amazon in a variety of camp patterns and solid colors). I paid $8.50 for 4 rolls and used 2 on the rifle. I'll probably order several more and do some of my other rifles as well. If you aren't familiar, the tape is non adhesive but sticks to itself. I believe it will do a good job protecting against dings and scratches. 20 years ago I would have bought a wood stocked rifle and just used it, but as expensive as they have gotten I'll do what I can to keep them in good shape.

  15. Hi TNGO! Figured I should learn to plug the perforations so I popped out to a Stop The Bleed course in the East Tennessee area(Maryville) a few months ago. Wasn’t sure how many folks would be in the class and to my surprise it was just me that Saturday AM. Instructor was ex-EMT and Fire and I was fortunate to receive 4 hours of one-on-one training which helped develop my bandaging and tourniquet skills. Highly recommend, it’s more likely to be needed than your sidearm! Check out my dude! https://www.facebook.com/ResponseReadyLLC/ Cheers, JV

  16. Most of my handguns are CZs or CZ clones(Canik/Tristar). I generally like to tweak and fiddle with stuff and after a little polishing and internal swaps they can achieve some truly incredible triggers! Highly recommend!

  17. There is a long rail on the top where you add any type of sights that you want . I used a Holsun on it. I can add a set of basic (fold down / flip up) sights if needed.

  18. Jackalope. The secret to a spring is does it it run even in the hottest months. If so, it’s ground water. If not it’s surface water. You live in an area with a lot of limestone and dolomite (low grade limestone). Depending on where you are in that area, sandstone can be a problem. You may be drinking water that went into the grounds thousands of years ago. Due to the high mineral content, you may develop stones. If you wish, I would recommend a filter system for your drinking water to remove the calcite. Bob

  21. I've posted my thoughts numerous times on TGO about red dot optics on handguns. I am not an early adopter but I have been on this journey now for about six years and easily have 25-30,000 rounds downrange in classes and leisure shooting with optics on maybe 8-10 different handgun platforms. Suffice it to say that I'm not new at this. IMO, optics on handguns are not the future. They are the present. They are here and now and are already mainstream among serious practitioners of the gun. The advantages far outweigh any disadvantages that still remain despite the rapidly evolving technologies in use. They provide increased speed of target acquisition, improved target and periphery awareness, improved target tracking and allow higher degrees of accuracy than iron sights do. Since the dawn of man when the first person picked up a rock or a stick and hurled it at an animal they were hunting or an adversary they were fighting, we used a single plane for sighting and aligning for the throw. We looked at the target. Rocks and spears don't come with a front sight and a rear sight. We looked at the thing we wanted to hit, we tracked its movement if there was any, and our brains and bodies did the rest through prioperception. Red dots allow us to do the same thing. We don't have to process three planes of a sight picture to use them. We don't use the complicated equation of rear sight (first plane), front sight (second plane) and target (third plane) for our eyes, brains and bodies to coordinate between. We look at the target, we see the dot, we pull the trigger. If you're still stuck in an iron sights world, my condolences. If you've tried a red dot and it "didn't work for you"... you might need a competent trainer to help you unlearn your old ways and learn the better way. It's not the optic, it's you. And the only thing wrong with that is not accepting that fact and working past it. The dot is the way.

  22. Years ago, I had the 357 pack, later two 44mag packs. One was stolen out of my Bronco. The 357 was the most accurate pistol I've ever owned. They can be found on Gunbroker at times, for Gunbroker prices.

  23. I do not use a red dot on my carry gun. I tried it and finding the dot took me longer to get the first shots off than the standard sights. I will say that I am more accurate with the RedDot and can empty the magazine faster and accurately. But those first 1-2 shots are slower for me while I play hide-n-seek with the little RedDot. I decided that the RedDot was not for me at this time. I will reevaluate in the future maybe. PROS: (for me) 1) Faster for multiple shots 2) tighter groups when shooting faster CONS: (for me) 1) expensive (for the good ones). I do not want to add $300-$500 to the cost of every pistol I own. 2) Slower for the first shot while searching for the RedDot. This applies to aimed shots only as you can point-n-shoot with either system. 3) carry gun is now slightly less compact 4) concerns about the state of the optic at any given moment? do you have to turn it on? or off? is the battery still good? 5) training consistency. I do not want to train to expect to use one and then not have one on the gun that I have at the moment. Unless you buy the same one for all your carry guns.

  25. Alrighty, I bought this off a member here a few years ago, cleaned her up nice, carried her a bit in my sticky holster, decided to switch it up. We have a pretty minty fresh Springfield Armory ESP 4 in 9mm. It has a single 10 round extended mag and 7... that is 7! extra factory standard magazines (9 round count). That's $210ish retail plus tax just in magazines! Ok, back to the gun. She's nice, all factory stuff, extra magazines, nice little way to avoid uncle sam on a new one as well as get all the extra magazines your heart could desire thrown in! Located in Franklin TN. Firm on price unless you are wanting to take my number off your awesome railed 9mm metal frame pistol or an AR10. Cheers!

  29. I usually end up spending well over $150 every year there. Between my wife and kids and now grandchild it's easy to blow through a good bit of cash there. This year I intend to purchase some ammo in honor of the Wilson County Fair and stay home.

  31. Because aligning a red dot on a target is easier and faster than trying to align 3 tiny white dots on the same target. Try one. You'll very quickly understand why they've become all the rage.

  36. Jake Freeman made himself 110 million at 20 years old. He'll likely spend the next 50 years wearing a suit and attending business meetings. If I had come into that kind of money at 20 I would have likely been found dead before 30 on my private island wearing a pair of cargo shorts and not owning a shirt.

  37. Suppose you understand all the benefits of recreation in the fresh air. In that case, so that more often to travel to nature or the sea, you will need to do only one thing - without extreme patience and hesitation to get out of the chair, pack a small snack in your bag and go on vacation. To avoid missing walks and not frustrate plans for a vacation in the fresh air, it is important to plan the time. If you are going to leave, try to free up the day completely for this, having made all the necessary calls the day before and answering all the emails that came to you. Otherwise, you risk encountering another "urgent" business or household issue, and the trip will be disrupted again. My family and I go out once a week. We roast steaks on a skillet we bought at https://www.amazon.com/pie-iron-for-campfire-cooking/dp/B088H42W2L It makes a great smoky flavor to the meat.
