We brought home 3 cats about like this one my wife is so proud of. Got a couple more to the boat but didn’t get em in. We also caught many bluegills, black bass, skipjacks, drums etc. Ran into an old friend at the dock. He gave us a bass he’d hooked deep and killed. It was a great day. He and his wife had caught a bunch as well. We had a delicious fish dinner.2 points

Saw on news the Nashville predators. Foundation is holding a guns give back for predators gift cards at Greater revelation church this weekend. Seems like they have done this since 2011 with more than 650 gun turned in. If I was closer to Nashville I would be on next block with sign and lots of fifty dollars bills. Christmas in August. lol1 point

We have a couple of IBC totes for our rain water collection system. The water in one tote is used for our gardens, we always keep one tote topped off, and the water is cycled due to using it in the garden. We also have 5 gallon containers and one gallon jugs that are kept full, with about 50 gallons in portable containers. If we end up using our rainwater, it would be filtered and then treated with either chlorine or UV light, depending upon the quantity needed. We also have a spring, and the water from that would also be filtered and treated. Additionally, we have a pond for non-potable water. Water sources were a major consideration when we were looking for property.1 point

IBC totes are a pretty common option. They can be stacked, but I am not sure if more than 2 high. You can get new, or like @ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ get a used food grade one that has had something safe in it. I have seen local ones that had cooking oil, but I worry about getting them clean enough for drinking water. I am not close to you, so I am not help on a local source. Good Luck.1 point

Generally at most gun shops you can get a new Taurus G2 in 9mm for 2-225.00 out the door. I’d your looking for something cheap that’s the best option!1 point

I suppose I have attended my last fair. Looks like Wilson County has adopted policies from Nashville and forgotten their roots. I have attended the fair every year for the past 20+ and carried a concealed pistol every year without an issue. Now that the "State Fair" has crashed the party, the anti-gun crowd has taken over. Maybe I'll spend the money (that would have been spent at the fair) on ammo instead of fried everything. JMHO1 point

So they can play like they’ve been shot and then go to the doctor and then try to figure out how to take a big freaking horse pills.1 point

Manufacturers have responded by making carry guns smaller and smaller yet people keep adding on doodads and extended magazines to get back where we started.1 point

Not really loaded. I think that non-Christians sometimes assume everyone they disagree with is a Christian. It's almost like a poke in the chest. A lot of Christians don't realize you can be a good moral person without being a Christian. I've never really understood why some people dislike Jewish people either. I've never met someone that was Jewish that I disliked as a person. However my morality may not be the norm for a Christian or non-Christian and that's okay with me. I will continue to treat people of faith with respect until that person proves to be unworthy of that respect. My Wife happens to be a Christian. I adore and admire her with all my heart, but I just can't believe what I don't believe and I do not have the right to demand She change her beliefs.1 point

I really miss the days when no one gave a chit what the rich people in DC did. Rich folks do what rich folks do. Don't, hasn't and will never matter , left or right. Not a thing that matters, EVER changes. I'm not a racist unless politics is a ethnicity. It is weird now though. Used to at least truth mattered. Then the news became a business. Now we only hear what we want to hear. Only listen to people that eat out of the same dumpster that we do. I wish we would STOP electing rich people. BUT......that cost money. We don't spend money on things that we need. OK OK my rant is over! Wish you the very best recovery Jill Biden. I would hate to see another American pass from a PREVENTABLE disease.1 point

If you need reading glasses, it can be very hard (if not impossible) to see the sights on a pistol without them. While 'Point and shoot' will get you a long way, accuracy at any significant distance requires dot sights (or a scope). I have dot sights on a couple of carry pistols (including my primary), a 10/22 pistol, and a PC Carbine.1 point

People on this forum mention their faith often, then go on to show a complete lack of empathy and care for their fellow human. It's been like this the entire 10+ years I've been a member.1 point

That is a loaded question. Short version, if you believe Christ died on the cross for your sins, you are a Christian. However just because you are a Christian, that does not mean you are necessarily a good person. All kinds of bad have been done in the name of Christ. To me it is pretty simple. Christ taught Love for your fellow man. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The “Golden Rule” our grandmothers taught. I suppose I could be wrong in my interpretation of what Christ wanted. But I follow my heart. Maybe I won’t go to heaven unless I spew hate and whatnot in the name of Christianity. However, if that is the case, I’m not sure that is a heaven I want to go to.1 point

I got COVID in June and it was the most mild illness I've ever had. I only knew I had it because I tested myself after getting a mild fever. I've had hangovers worse than this. I can't prove the vaccine made my case mild but my gut says it did. I'm really not sure the point of this thread or why the people that are so against the vaccine seem to be so excited from the examples of vaccinated people testing positive. As if this somehow vindicates your decision. My non vaccinated friend got COVID a few weeks ago and was very ill. Do you think I laughed at him and said "that's what you get"? No I didn't. I'm over this whole pandemic but it seems the people still talking about it the most are this crowd of supposed Christians getting joy from other people catching it. Y'all need to let it go. Not trying to single you out specifically @deerslayer, just noticing a theme with these threads about COVID and it's getting old.1 point

I would not ride it. Looks uncomfortable and awkward. Hard to say how it will behave in the wind, especially a crosswind fully loaded. If you have a way to ditch the low (small) swing arm bag and get traditional side bags that is the route I would go. Then lower the rear bag to seat height as a back rest. I would loose the handle bar bag as well or at least scale it significantly down. Looks like way too much weight to have on your suspension and bars unless you have your down pillows stuffed in there. The above setup was 9 to 10 days including camping gear, extra cold weather gear, and rain gear. I over packed and should have left the tank bag at home. The passenger bag is simply a cover to hold a small 6 pack cooler for drinks and snacks. The left side case had tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, camp towel, tool kit, tire kit, camp knife, and spare light. Right case is a go bag of clothes that I can pull right out and take up to a room if I am staying in a hotel rather than camping. That bag has all of my clothes for the trip. Also in that right case is a spare pair of street shoes and a pair of flip flops if I need some for a camp shower. Finally there is rain gear in there as well. Rear trunk has spare riding gloves, ball cap, first aide kit, jetboil stove, coffee, tea bags, snacks, food, face shield cleaner and microfiber towel, spare camp towel, hoodie or pullover jacket, spare knife, spare flashlight, and plenty of space for road souvenirs. I ended up buying a few t-shirts and a hoodie for gifts along the way and they went in there. Like I said I could have left the entire tank bag at home. I could have left a few changes of clothes at home. All in all I could have dropped another 10lbs off the bike easy, maybe 15 or more.1 point

So the answer to the question that probably no one asked... Where has Oldironfan been? I mean He has not posted in close to two months and only visited once or twice to read the goings on. I bought a new bike and took off for a few weeks to ride. I had been planning a fly and ride trip over the Spring. I knew I had some time to take off work around the first of June so I was looking at big bore adventure bikes in Texas, Colorado, Oregon, California, and even a few in the northeast. The plan was to fly out and buy a bike then take the long way home over a couple of weeks. All that went out the window when I found a bike about an hour and a half down the road near Cookeville, TN. I picked it up near the end of May and promptly tore it apart to set it up for my needs and wired in some accessories. I then quickly revamped my plan for a ride during my time off. Should I go out to the east coast and places like Cape Hatteras? Nope, the weeks following Memorial Day and the official start of summer beach season would mean traffic and tourists, lots of them. That was out. Should I go south to ride the Florida Keys. See above plus it was going to be hot and swampy down there. Should I go West toward the mountain passes of the Rockies and the deserts of Arizona or Nevada? Maybe, but the heat would probably be high in the desert and my comfort level off road with narrow mountain passes on a new bike might be an issue. North was the only option that made much sense so off to Canada and the Great Lakes it was. I decided I would ride around the perimeter of all the great lakes. I did make the executive decision to ignore lake Michigan and Michigan all together. Too many trips to Detroit, Grand Rapids, Benton Harbor, and Chicago for work made spending much effort on seeing Lake Michigan seem pointless. I needed to dip a toe in Superior, Huron, Ontario, and Erie. So June 1 I set off and headed for the west side of Lake Superior. About 10 days later I returned home with an additional 3200 miles in the bike and a bunch of memories to go with the pictures. My route was Nolensville, TN > Rockford, IL > Stone Lake, WI > Thunder Bay Ontario CA > Wawa Ontario CA > Manitoulin Island Ontario CA > Wiarton Ontario CA > Kingston Ontario CA > Niagara Falls Ontario CA > Erie, PA > Cleveland PA > Columbus PA > Nolensville, TN (home). Through it all I managed to get in about 250 to 300 miles of gravel and forest service roads in Northern Wisconsin and Canada. I camped a few night, stayed in a cabin and a bunkee a couple nights, and hit a few hotels on the way up and back. Also had to hit a hotel in Niagara Falls as there were not many camping options close by. Also snuck in a ferry crossing although it was not as enjoyable as I would have hoped due to rain and upper 40º F temperatures. My steed for the ride and my new commuter is my '05 BMW R1200GS that my wife has nicknamed Tucan. In addition to the 3200 miles on the trip I have put a about 1800 miles on locally bringing my total for the summer to 5000ish miles.1 point
