We can debate tactics, gear, and spend countless hours on 9mm vs. 40 S&W vs. .45 ACP...all that is just filler. Nothing determines an outcome more than the mindset of an individual who acts when human instinct is to freeze or flee.10 points

Elisjsha Dicken (the Good Samaritan and of the two people with a gun that day, the only one who’s name I care about) did not have a permit. He was legally carrying under the Indiana constitutional carry law that went into effect 16 days ago.9 points

I heard it was a G17. His girlfriend is also a bad ass. She used her jacket to make a tourniquet on the leg of one of the injured.6 points

Just read this. He hit the gunman with 8/10 shots from 40 yards. That is incredible. He also stopped him within 15 seconds of the shooting starting.4 points

The wife and I got our Real-ID last year. A couple weeks ago, we flew out West. In the TSA line, all they needed was the Real-ID. They didn't need to see our boarding passes. Somehow they tied it all together. They popped the license into a reader, and it pulled up everything about our travel plans. That level of personal info being tied to it in a gov database kinda scares me.4 points

I wouldn't. They complicate your holster options, I've seen them break off of the gun before, and there is really nothing that they offer that can't be accomplished by improving your grip onto the gun with a little trial and error.3 points

What a validation of the change in law. Hate that it happened, but this vignette has a clear takeaway that the new law is a good one.3 points

A lot of opposition is emotional but much of it does have some basis in reality, depending on the source. EV’s have definitely come a long way in a very short time but are constantly evolving. We have seen the same with computers, communications, phones, etc. over the past 20-30 years if not longer but everyone knows those are disposable and relatively inexpensive in the grand scheme of things depending on need. While combustion engine vehicles are pretty much disposable, they can still be made to run for decades, as long as they don’t have a bunch of complicated electronics, or at least replacement part cannot be found for. EV’s are expensive. Regular vehicles are expensive. Not everyone can just run out and buy a rolling iPhone and expect to keep it forever. That battery is going to go bad at some point… and it’s going to be expensive to replace. Many older people who are retired or are soon to be there simply cannot afford to go out and buy a fancy new EV, much less have to repair it a few years down the road. I’d say many of them are set with the vehicle they’d got and may have planned it that way. There are tremendous amounts of people these days that can barely afford rent. No way they are going to find cheap transportation in an EV world. And all those people that live out in the boonies with no charging solutions are going to be screwed until they buy their own and pay the electric bill…or hope the local government and some business puts in charging stations for them. I see a lot of backwoods communities resisting that with a passion…because emotions.2 points

So like many hot accessories, might be ok for certain competition guns, but not really beneficial for a carry gun.2 points

My wife and I decided to not resist the inevitable, so we are scheduled to get the Real ID BS next month.2 points

Was that independently validated, or a Tesla test? Seems weird that the last 20% would take an hour and the previous 80% only thirty minutes. But here is another issue I have seen, the public charging stations usually only have about three or four charging units, so if there were a bunch of cars on the road, waiting in line would have to be factored in. Only a few times I could remember that I got to pull right up to one of the many pumps at a gas station, the last time I was behind three vehicles, at say 30-90 minutes each...yea, NO.2 points

I also heard police say he moved tactically towards the shooter while waving other people to safety. I wonder if we'll ever get to see the security footage of that part. I'm sure most of us have wondered how we would handle such an event. I've always been concerned about having a safe backstop so you don't accidentally hit someone else. From what we know so far this young man did about as good as anyone could hope for. He deserves all the praise.2 points

I heard it was a Glock but not sure of which one other than 9mm. https://www.wrtv.com/news/local-news/crime/what-we-know-about-the-armed-civilian-who-killed-greenwood-gunman2 points

To be clear, I am not at all against electric vehicles. I AM against government mandated electric vehicles. Let the public decide what it wants. So far, a big hogging v8 engine works for me. That may well change in the future.2 points

When market forces drive the change to electric vehicles, it will be good. Government forcing this will turn out badly.2 points

I was referring to obtaining and storing your personal information when entering and while staying in their countries. Probably one of the reasons they can be so laid back about security.2 points

I saw one story that focused on how rare it is for a shooter to be stopped by a bystander. "It isn't common for mass shootings to be stopped in such fashion. From 2000 to 2021, fewer than 3% of 433 active attacks in the U.S. ended with a civilian firing back," Do ya think it just might be because most of these shootings have happened in "Gun Free Zones"? The antis are reaching hard to try to discredit Mr. Dicken's actions, but it ain't flyin'. The Chief and Mayor of Greenwood just keep praising this young man at every news conference and on camera. Even anti-gun MSM can't just ignore that. I LOVE IT!2 points

Selling this new, unfired Winchester Model 70. Comes with box and papers. Does not come with scope or rings pictured, but I will sell with the Talley Bases. Bought this last year as a donor for a custom safari rifle build...but I found one already fully customized, so I went that route. Great rifle, for a great price. Hard to find right now. $15001 point

Thank you I have not had any experience with them I have read they do break easy and often. It shoots quite well now. But I am a sucker for. gizmos this would be a range gun but still don’t want to worry about it breaking.1 point

I'm not advocating for them. I like my gas guzzling truck. I'm just saying that the comments against them from some people are a bit over the top. People mocked the Prius when it first came out and it's been a huge success. There are early models out there still using the original battery according to the Toyota mechanic I know.1 point

I have a '21 Ford F150 Platinum Powerboost Hybrid. Unless I'm messing around in Sport mode, I get city/hiway 25+ mpg. Not uncommon getting close to 30mpg. Around town it varies but most of the time, I'm in electric. It has a V6 with balls and Turbo. The battery is covered for 100,000 miles or 8 Yrs. I'm very happy with the truck. The story of that family is unfortunate and that they got screwed over. They should sue the dealer. Not sure if the warranty was over or not able to be transferred, but oh well. Got to do your homework. Putting weight against the hybrid is ridiculous. I will not/ever go full electric. But happy so far that I can get over 700 miles on a tank of regular gas while maintaining a decent mpg with an F150...1 point

I don't hate them per se, but I will not purchase one until it's an electric golf cart or wheel chair that I would need to get around in. There just isn't enough of an upside to them, you never break even on one, you never get on the +side of being green considering the carbon footprint of charging them, and the metals needed to make those expensive batteries.1 point

With our electrical grid already strained, how do you propose we charge all these electric cars once everyone has at least one?1 point

I saw an article where the mall ownership actually praised Mr. Dicken's heroism. However, they stopped short of making any direct comments on their No Guns signs.1 point

This stuff has been in the works for years. I held a Commercial Driver's License for 40 years due to my job. CDLs always have to be renewed in person and you must bring proper ID. Well my proper ID has always been my original birth certificate that was given to my parents when I was born. Its one of those old white on black early photocopies. Never had a problem with it until about 10 years ago. Went to renew my CDL and all of a sudden my birth certificate was no good. I had to go back home, get my DD-214 and go wait in line another 3 hours to renew my license. Later I had to make a trip to the county Health Dept to get a certified copy of my birth certificate. This new one has barely anything on it but my name and date of birth, but it is certified. I still don't have a Real ID. I haven't flown anywhere since 2002 and have no plans to in the future. I guess when my regular license expires in 2027, I'll fool with it then.1 point

Its looking like the Police Chief isn't gonna let this hero go un-noticed. "At a press conference on Monday afternoon, Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison said Elisjsha Dicken, 22, of Seymour, Ind., was shopping with his girlfriend at the Greenwood Park Mall when shots rang out in the food court on Sunday just before 6 p.m. local time. “His actions were nothing short of heroic,” Ison said. “Many more people would have died last night had an armed citizen not taken action within two minutes of the shooting.”1 point

It's in USA Today and Reuters and on TV it's on CBS and CNN, plus lots of local affiliates. I think it helps that the media were quick to jump on early reports of "another mall shooting" and then had to follow up with the outcome. Cheers, Whisper1 point

Well, considering an armed citizen shot and killed the suspect, most likely preventing further deaths, it’s a win for the Second Amendment.1 point

My favorite place to get (very in-depth) reviews for TVs and monitors is: https://www.rtings.com/ Personally, I went from a BenQ dual-monitor setup to a single Hisense 65H9G TV. With 65-inches of display setting arms-length from me, I don't feel the need for more screen real-estate. If I do need additional space, Window multiple desktops (WIN+CTRL+D) gives me a clean display to work with and I can swap back and forth between them (WIN+CTRL+(right or left arrow key)). You can close the additional desktop with WIN+CTRL+F4.1 point

Mine actually fit into an existing large cabinet so you can’t see the safe unless you know to open the cabinet.1 point

If you dont want to grease, VCI emitters are a good option. I use two emitters and a series of 10 Eva-dry rechargeable desiccant thingamajigs that get recharged every month. Keeps thing from 18% to 26% depending on season1 point

Trex Board works great since it is less likely to pull up water. The wood idea was my first choice but I ended up going with Trex. Anything to get it off the concrete is better than leaving it flat though. I have a Golden Rod at bottom of safe and also a rechargeable desiccant container at top of the safe. I recharge it once a month as a schedule and maybe more than that if it’s a wet month.1 point

Don't put it directly on concrete, it will rust. A piece of plywood works well.1 point

I also have my safe in the “garage”. It is really a workshop now. I have both a heating element (like the goldenrod) in my safe as a well as a couple containers of silica gel. I will regenerate those every couple months.1 point

Use something like the goldenrod, but also get some RIG and use a light coat on all metal surfaces. When I say light, I mean like you can barely tell it is there. Use a shaving brush to get in the hard to reach areas. This is especially good if you are storing them for long periods of time. https://www.amazon.com/Birchwood-Casey-Universal-Grease-Ounce/dp/B0033CMK0A A little goes a long way. Get the wool rig rag and a brush and you should be good. https://www.amazon.com/Shaveway-Original-Shaving-Engineered-methods/dp/B00LMTHSF81 point

Rode down to Townsend on Sunday for breakfast, ate, rode to Wears Valley then looped back on Foothills. Stopped at new distillery in Townsend, Company Distilling, did a little tasting, talked with the master distiller ( formally master distiller of Jack Daniels) brought a bottle home for further evaluation!!
