I also love how certain groups will claim cops are evil and in the next breath will say only law enforcement should have AR-15's...3 points

That's a good question, and I have a list of disclaimers for context, lol. They are all pretty different and are more effected by my current level of practice (lacking) over the last year. On the day, short version for performance goes 20C > XDM > 1066 The favorites would be a mash up of things about each really. the 20C and XDM are much closer and almost tie. As much as I love the feel of the Gen 3 S&W's and its great balance with that length slide, I stopped after 3 mags. But that was more me problem than the gun itself. The 20C was a standout performer more from a familiarity standpoint. My last sighting target (switched out trijicons for OEM plastic) will better explain. In general I have 100's of thousands of rounds thru Glocks, when I am not current they hide my lack of practice best. Related to that, that gun has a great 3lb trigger and the factory comp setup works. All my Glocks are C models except for the RTF frame doners. Even though it consistently performs for me, the reason it cant get the nod as THE favorite is that it has the worst ergo fit. I sometimes run an RTF SF frame with that upper which makes it just about right. But wanted to be fair to the XDM as its stock currently. The XDM is bone stock, I wanted to see how it felt on recoil and sort sight picture for any adjustments. Only about 50 rounds thru it, I see lots of potential and it will give my 20C a run for its money when done if not surpass it. Its ergos are better, and though the test target doesnt show it to the degree its capable, it has good accuracy. Its recoil is more noticeable and I was letting it down being focused on the longish sear engagement as I was weighing going with a PRP trigger. The answer to that is yes in the end. With the trigger and gas pedal to make up for the comp, I expect good things to come. The 1066. I got this 3 years ago as a stable mate for my 1006, and this is the first time I shot it. I love the look and feel, as with any Gen 3 smith. The shorter slide balance is perfect. The novaks on it I could not sort out. I had no idea where it was hitting with the first mag. The hold from my 1006 wasnt working and 0 hits on target. It had to be shameful for anyone watching. It wasnt until I was on the end of 3rd mag I got a sense for it. After that I noticed the brass was flying twice as far as the plastic guns and help explain why the recoil felt excessive for its heft. Its 30 year old recoil spring is done or the original owner swapped it for something too light. It needs a heavier recoil spring to slow it down and not beat the frame, on top of me doing my job. So called it quits early for it. As much as I love these for what they are, gen 3's triggers are not great by any stretch. This one is far worse than my 1006. No excuses there, it was all me and need to not bring any plastic fantastic with it. Rather the 1006 next time after new springs and maybe smoothing of the internals. These targets were at 12 yards. Top pic is the Glock. I shoot the stupid plastic cheapo sights that Glock folks malign better than the spendy ones. The gaps are perfect they just make sense to me after countless rounds on them. I think its a good thing. The bottom is the XDM. I changed my grip after I was high and got that mediocre group while feeling the sear, so given I wasnt really trying I think it will tighten up great. Not going to touch the sights for now, still working out my grip on the XDM. The crossed out strikes were from 1066 at that the target the last mag (folks should laugh) rather than hang new ones since they were still 'new' targets. If the Smith police were there, they would have take it from me I think. I wouldn't blame them.2 points

I just stumbled on this forum while researching TN gun laws. Glad I did! I'm a GOA member but not NRA. Politics . We've got to stay free, folks, and hold on to what God gave us. I drive truck and listen to podcasts all day. I'm pretty up on all the crap out there and frankly fed up. I'd suspect I'm not alone on that. Peace1 point

They will use this to eventually go after the rest of firearms, including revolvers, hunting rifles and shotguns. It's just a matter of time, unless we hold the line here.1 point

Nice! Ok, sold me. Next time I see one in my travels. I'd normally order online, but with modern S&W wheel guns, I'd only buy one after inspecting in person.1 point

The negative side to that is, the legislators don't look at it like that and see the errors of their ways. They double down and say they didn't go far enough and move to enact more laws.1 point

On a positive note: when this fails to stop any crime, we'll have proof that we can point to.1 point

better senses.....pffft Sounds to close to thinking, no thanks, I already have too much money. Funny thing I was thinking as I drove home was, a 4" 610 would be a good add! FWIW, I would go with the 4.5 if you happen to run into one unless s&w does a PC version of their full size M&P10. I usually gravitate to 4" in most plastic guns, but that little bit seems to really work for auto 10's. Less recoil than than the 1066, which was initially a surprise (I am going to add a heavier recoil spring after today). I had a G29, really tried to like it, but never clicked.1 point

Amazing how an AR-15 in the hands of a regular citizen is an "assault rifle" but as soon as the same gun is placed in the hands of a police officer it becomes a "patrol carbine."1 point

A couple of points to consider: 1. The federal government owns the Lake City Ammunition plant, Winchester only has the contract to operate it. Nothing in this EO affects Winchester's own plants or production ... 2. M855 is essentially already out of production, as the military switched to M855A1 years ago. There may be some quantities of M109 still being produced, but M855 is already obsolete, at least as far as military contracts go. Therefore banning "excess" sales of a product no longer made is meaningless ... Although I have no doubt that the current administration would gladly curtail most, if not all civilian ammunition sales, this probably isn't the calamity its made out to be on some of these websites ...1 point

Plenty of I know more than you do people ,your $500 gun is only worth $200 to me so I can mark it up to $700 on my table kind of people there. Quit going to shows years ago , cause most of the people with tables have the same over price %#it they tote around from show to show.1 point

Yup-let's make it hard for the normal citizen to have these but it won't impede a criminal in the least- There just are people that do not get it-willing to let their rights go bye bye- I wonder how much of these bills are going to be unconstitutional-I think the Supreme Court already ruled on AR15 saying that banning did not pass Constitutional muster- This is what happens when idiots vote-you get idiots in office-1 point

Thanks guy's, I figured I would start a collection of Smith&Wessons. Ever since I got this damn cancer diagnosis, I figured that I would contact a fellow that I've bought a few from to purchase all of them when I'm gone. Hopefully not in the next few months lol.....1 point

I applaud your efforts @StephenB. Maybe you should send a copy of the flow chart to all representatives and senators in state government to help them understand what a quagmire of laws they’ve come up with. Maybe an illustrated picture will get through to them.1 point

A lot more expensive than buying a shorter shotgun, if it's done properly. Threading for chokes is the hard part & there aren't many people will do it. If you leave it as a completely open, cylinder choke, it'll basically be useless.1 point

My favorite carry calibers are .45acp and .38 Special. There's usually some form of 1911 and a revolver with me for range trips. But for a "range" caliber, my favorite will always be .22LR. I'm there to enjoy myself.1 point

I have an older Citori that has many 10's of thousands of rounds through it and only 2 miss fires and zero mechanical issues ( I know I just totally jinx'd it ). My father has a new Krieghoff K80 and a Beretta that have both had a lot of mechanical issues, but he shoots 2-3 times a week. Both are beautiful guns, but he has to have backups and spare parts. The Citori will easily be passed down to my kids.1 point

Go up to Iron Mtn. sporting clays at the 407 exit. Hang out there and chat up with the shooters...IMO avoid the 101 and Red Label. I have had both and the recoil is heavier. The x25 series guns from Browning will serve fine. The Berettas mentioned will also. Skeet and trap are not as popular as they once were, but both are fun. Sporting clays is the main attraction now and it is basically a 12ga game, as is trap. The 12 can be 'loaded lite' and be just fine for shooters of all ages. Fit is important, but don't worry too much about it. The human body is very adaptable as long as one is comfortable in handling the gun, especially with the LOP (length of pull)1 point

From years on the trap & skeet fields, the absolute best over/unders in the price range you are looking at are the Browning Citoris & Beretta 686s. I believe the Citori barrels to be better regulated than the Berettas (had a 28ga that shot shamefully low) but the Berettas fit me better, so that's what I shoot most now. Fit trumps all. But my Citori was incredible - over 10,000 rounds & still tight & reliable. Another one to seriously consider is the SKBs. Very(!) good shotguns for the money. Avoid anything that says "Made in Turkey". Avoid the Ruger Red Labels; they shoot loose too quickly, which is sadly disappointing as Ruger built their rep on rugged, strong guns that were a good value for the money. Somehow they missed the mark on these. One small suggestion - do NOT get a ported barrel model. The extra noise is a nightmare in the hunting fields.1 point
