  1. A father used to say to his children when they were young: —When you all reach the age of 12 I will tell you the secret of life. One day when the oldest turned 12, he anxiously asked his father what was the secret of life. The father replied that he was going to tell him, but that he should not reveal it to his brothers. —The secret of life is this: The cow does not give milk. "What are you saying?" Asked the boy incredulously. —As you hear it, son: The cow does not give milk, you have to milk it. You have to get up at 4 in the morning, go to the field, walk through the corral full of manure, tie the tail, hobble the legs of the cow, sit on the stool, place the bucket and do the work yourself. That is the secret of life, the cow does not give milk. You milk her or you don't get milk. There is this generation that thinks that cows GIVE milk. That things are automatic and free: their mentality is that if "I wish, I ask..... I obtain." "They have been accustomed to get whatever they want the easy way...But no, life is not a matter of wishing, asking and obtaining. The things that one receives are the effort of what one does. Happiness is the result of effort. Lack of effort creates frustration." So, share with your children from a young age the secret of life, so they don't grow up with the mentality that the government, their parents, or their cute little faces is going to give them everything they need in life. Remember "Cows don't give milk; you have to work for it."

  2. This past weekend Randy Harris (HCS) put on his Red Dot Pistol Skills class at Windrock Shooting Range in Oliver Springs. I attended along with 7 other students. I took a similar class in March from Aaron Cowan (Sage Dynamics) in Pikeville and had taken another 3 years ago with Randy instructing a Suarez International course as well as having a few years experience shooting red dot equipped pistols. The technology continues to evolve/improve as do the methods to better use the RDS on pistols. The early adopters like Harris and Cowan have not only helped prove the concept but are also constantly improving the methods for use and teaching of the RDS pistol. Randy is a known quantity to me. I have trained with him before and already knew him to be an excellent instructor. The Harris Combative Strategies RDPS (Randy's curriculum) is a big improvement over the course from 3 years ago. The best description of the class I can give would be "a wide presentation of information about the RDS and it's best use coupled with a precise boiling down of critical skills and drills to teach those skills". In other words, everything you need and nothing you don't. Skills covered included: Basics marksmanship skills (independent of RDS) Quickly picking up the dot upon presentation Fast and effective use of the RDS at ANY distance, near or far (including alternate sighting methods) Learning proper use of the dot (zero distances and hold overs at ranges near and far) Using the RDS to diagnose shooter mistakes/weaknesses in fundamentals // as a self learning tool These were just some, not all, of the skills covered in the class, not to mention the history/evolution of the RDS and it's use. The HCS RDPS class was outstanding and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to quickly and effectively use an RDS pistol.

  3. Looks like Beretta is bringing these to the US. Calibers show 30.06, .308, and .300 Win Mag https://www.beretta.com/en/brx1-rifle/ Anybody else think this is jumping into a pretty flooded market as far as options go? I know inventory is scarce on some stuff, but not in general.

  4. After watching this legislative session and even sessions over the past few years, it seems that there are a wide variety of pro gun bills proposed. Few bills proposed seem to actually reduce restrictions for people with enhanced carry permits and give them more practical ability to legally carry in more places to protect themselves. For example, I would try to put forth effort to improve the law for the guy with an enhanced permit to legally carry while taking community college classes at night in a rough part of town VS changing the law for someone who wants to walk down the sidewalk with a loaded shotgun. I am still surprised most states surrounding TN have legal college campus carry with licenses and TN does not. Someone with an enhanced permit can still be criminally charged over a 'no gun' sign, even on some public properties. These issues should have been fixed for the enhanced permits a long time ago, in my opinion.

  7. I completely agree. I heard the same things on youtube and rather than trust youtube with my freedoms I decided to reach out to my local rep to get his perspective on the law. Additionally, I may call a USCCA lawyer myself just for further clarification. In the mean time I will do nothing to the pistols I have equipped with stabilizing braces.

  12. I have a hunting bow that has been sitting in storage for a few years and I have done nothing with it. Long story is a family friend promised to take me bow hunting several years ago. He passed away 4-5 years ago suddenly and his wife left me the bow knowing about the promise. I have never been able to use and I have now packed it up and moved it 3 times in the last few years and I am ready to just be rid of it. I have a bow (Safari High country I believe), 10-12 arrows, a hard-sided case, a block target, hunting arrowheads, and a glove. I am asking $150 OBO for the lot. I am regularly in Williamson, Davidson, and Sumner counties. I can meet elsewhere it is just not as convenient and so may take a bit longer.

  13. I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee 3 times from age 26 - 46. The 3rd time I didn't need crutches after 1 day and missed no work. Pretty quick recovery each time. Bicycle riding strengthened the knee afterwards. You probably will be all fixed up after 1 surgery. Mine was due to a horrendous tibia plateau fracture which really ruins the joint and eventually had to be replaced. Good luck and have a quick recovery.

  14. Had my left knee done back around 1994. No big deal. They did it Arthroscopic. Just a couple of very small cuts. Crutches for a couple of weeks, a cane for a couple of more, then a knee brace for about a month or two. Was off work maybe 6 weeks. haven't had any problems out of it since. The worst part was being stuck in the house for about a month.

  19. I should have gotten a Swiss K-31 when they were affordable. Straight pull bolt actions are fast and fascinating. They also confound and scare me, lol. With a regular bolt action I know very well that bolt is not going to become an unwelcome part of my head.

  20. Sorry. Here is what I based it on. Unfortunately the video is behind a paywall. "In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves interviews Ricardo, Project Manager and Engineer for Beretta, about the new BRX-1. The BRX-1 is a new straight-pull rifle designed to incredibly high standards in Italy by Beretta. The BRX-1 has been in production in Europe since late 2021, but because demand has far outstripped the production capability of the BRX-1, these guns have not previously been designated for the US. However, Beretta plans to proceed with importing the BRX-1 although it may not happen until 2023." Sorry for the limited detail post. Got ahead of myself.

  26. I agree in general, when I was working I invest every payday automatically. Did it through the 2000 crash just changed what I was buying to get more diversified since I had way too much tech. Was already retired during the 2008 crash and my asset allocations and diversity let me sail through with no lost sleep. The waiting I was referring too is some people wait for dips. If the chart can be believed the dip may have a few months to go. Being retired I don't have new money to invest but do have some cash on the side from doing some asset rebalancing. It may stay on the side but if the dip is big enough I will need to rebalance assets again.

  27. That was my one complaint about my 2016 Tacoma - it liked to hunt for the gear it wanted more than I cared for in the normal Eco mode. I forget what the other mode was called that moved the shift point to a higher RPM, but that seemed I solve it.

  28. Awesome to hear. The only thing on these newer Tacomas I dont like is the transmissions being sealed and not having a dip stick. Supposedly the fluid is "lifetime" but I am still going to change it at certain intervals . There are ways to do it. After I sold you my older one , we were able to get by with our other cars and save up and payed off a lot of student loans and such , so thanks for buying it . I miss it but it's in good hands.

  30. In October last year I ordered a 2022 Toyota Tacoma. I recieved the Tacoma in December 2 months later. It's my "retirerment" truck since I am pretty close to retiring from my primary job. I wanted a simple reliable truck and this was the last true simple truck left on the market and I'll tell you why : It's a 4 door truck with real frame rails and body , the engine will stay on until I turn the key off. It doesnt turn on and off at stop lights like those other truck. It has a regular gasoline engine that breathes on it's own and doesnt have a stupid turbo charger that will fail later. All cylinders run and it doesn't have that crazy system that shuts off some cylinders to save fuel. All that extra junk like turbo chargers , stopping and starting the engine at red lights , and cylinder shut downs will eventually wear out and wear the engine out. My 2022 Tacoma was $29,600. Also there was no "market adjustment" either like lots of other dealers are doing. I paid the factory sticker price that I listed and that was all. No added bull crap no added charges at all. I know a few years ago you would talk dealers down from the sticker but no more. Trucks and cars are in high demand and dealers are adding these " market adjustment" stickers on them. The dealer I went to was one of the very few dealers that dont add that mess . I'm pleased. The only thing I dont like is the new 6 speed automatic transmission. It likes to shift a lot and it doesnt have a dipstick. I like the old 4 speed automatic better but those are long gone. I meant no offense to any truck owners with the fancy bells and whistles , I just prefer a simple truck with no fancy things on it.

  31. Such a shame. The man was an icon for the 2nd Amendment. Every gun owner should read "Unintended Consequences". Great book. The story is intermixed with actual significant moments in 2A history and helps explain how we got to where we are now.

  32. The .357 Sig and the 10mm don't use the same bullet, even if they both are 125 grains. The bullet diameters and their profiles and ballistic coefficients are different.

  35. I could be mistaken (I usually am), but Eray might been referring to the 125gr .357 Sig vs .357 Mag. My clue was the mention of the Glock 32 (.357 sig) going up against the SW 4” .357Mag. This would also explain why he made the point that the projectiles were the same, etc. Regardless, I take full blame for derailing the topic; I have that tendency and, in all honesty, what red blooded Tennessean could resist the bait of “man stopper” and “357 mag” in the same sentence? Not I, said the fly!
