I bought this one a while ago from a gentleman who won Forge & Fire a few years back. He's out of Alaska, Mark Knapp he won back in 2017 episode 20 season 4. This one is unique in that he made it to work like a 1911, it holds the gear in a cut out 1911mag. that actually works with a 1911 mag release. Here are a couple of pictures. The cut out mag. holds all the gear shown and was included. Let me know what you all think.3 points

From Wikipedia. His Medal Of Honor citation is incredible. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_E._Stumpf For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. SSG Stumpf distinguished himself while serving as a squad leader of the 3d Platoon, Company C, on a search and destroy mission. As SSG Stumpf's company approached a village, it encountered a North Vietnamese rifle company occupying a well fortified bunker complex. During the initial contact, 3 men from his squad fell wounded in front of a hostile machinegun emplacement. The enemy's heavy volume of fire prevented the unit from moving to the aid of the injured men, but SSG Stumpf left his secure position in a deep trench and ran through the barrage of incoming rounds to reach his wounded comrades. He picked up 1 of the men and carried him back to the safety of the trench. Twice more SSG Stumpf dashed forward while the enemy turned automatic weapons and machineguns upon him, yet he managed to rescue the remaining 2 wounded squad members. He then organized his squad and led an assault against several enemy bunkers from which continuously heavy fire was being received. He and his squad successfully eliminated 2 of the bunker positions, but one to the front of the advancing platoon remained a serious threat. Arming himself with extra hand grenades, SSG Stumpf ran over open ground, through a volley of fire directed at him by a determined enemy, toward the machinegun position. As he reached the bunker, he threw a hand grenade through the aperture. It was immediately returned by the occupants, forcing SSG Stumpf to take cover. Undaunted, he pulled the pins on 2 more grenades, held them for a few seconds after activation, then hurled them into the position, this time successfully destroying the emplacement. With the elimination of this key position, his unit was able to assault and overrun the enemy. SSG Stumpf's relentless spirit of aggressiveness, intrepidity, and ultimate concern for the lives of his men, are in the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the U.S. Army.[1]3 points

My squad leader in 'Nam, Kenneth E. Stumpf, a Medal of Honor recipient, has final stage pancreatic cancer. His son called me, said the dr. gave him 2 weeks. After I was severely wounded, he came in and got me out under fire, along with 2 other guys. I probably would have bled out if not for that. Hell of a guy & soldier. Heavy heart. He will be missed by all that knew him.2 points

It is hard to be in front of the camera and know you have to get all the information presented in 4 minutes, did the best I could, bobbled a couple of times, but got it all read into the record.2 points

Grunt, thank you and "Stumpy" for your service, prayers for him will be sent. Erik, thanks for the research, we need more men like both. I wear a patch on my leather that says "I wasn't there, but I still care". I respect and honor all of our veterans, they are the best of all of us.2 points

I couldn't comment on the A1, per se, but since it's justa gussied up T3x & I actually do have a ton of trigger time on the T3x, I feel comfy giving my opinion. It's a Sako on a budget & that's no bad thing. The action glides. It doesn't snick open. It doesn't make cool Hollywood noises. It sashays open like a dancer on a polished floor. It feels like you're pulling a glass rod through warm oil. The trigger, personal preferences on weight aside, is glorious. Zero creep. Near as dammit zero over travel. I left mine as it came at 3lb because it's a hunting gun & I'd rather err on the side of safety in the woods. It can happily come down to almost half that. Accuracy is what you'd expect from a Sako barrel. Honest 10 round groups into 1.5" (165gn Partitions in .30-06) & that's a good as any factory rifle made & better than 80%. If you're into the '3 round groups'll do' brigade you can call it 3, 1/2" groups with one right in the middle. Whatever gives you the warm fuzziness. I did zero barrel break in & the only mod I've made is replacing the sporter grip module with the vertical. It just fits my hand better. I haven't even cleaned it. Not even from the factory. A good friend has the Sako 85 in .30-06 (in an aftermarket stock, at that) wearing a Swaro Z5 3.5-18x44. My Tikka has a SWFA SS 6x42. My rifle shoots exactly as well as his for a total cost of about half his scope's value. I really, really love this gun. If I had the time & money, I'd honest replace every rifle I own with Tikkas (if they made them in my preferred, oddball chamberings & short barrel lengths )2 points

We always called him Stumpy. Little funny on him, he drove down from Tomah, Wi twice to visit, stayed a week both times. I asked him if he was ever wounded. He said once. I asked where, he said like Forrest Gump. In the buttocks, LOL. He left the Army, awarded the CMOH, and the Army talked him into coming back. He did, and they put him in recruiting. He hated that, asked to go back to his old unit in 'Nam. Wish granted. Stayed in & Retired after 29 yrs as Sargent Major.2 points

Primers up for sale or trade. Pre-Scamdemic price, $120 & whatever deal is worked out you must drive to meet me in Nunnelly or Dickson. Send pictures of whatever you have for trade. I’m really looking for a high quality 3-5 day pack with padded shoulder straps & waist belt. Knives, Milwaukee fuel tools/batteries, Ammo, ground beef/steaks. If it’s sharp or dangerous I might be interested. Keep in mind $120 is pocket change these days & not worth any hassle whatsoever. You can fill up the tank in my truck if you want to use credit.1 point

I finally pulled the trigger yesterday and ordered a Laugo Arms Alien from Lancer. I didn’t get the full kit due to them being out of stock constantly and I’m not a huge fan of shooting with a red dot. The holster would have been nice but I’ll just have to make one for myself. If you haven’t seen this pistol I would suggest a quick YouTube search. The other is a Colt 1903 hammerless type 3. Picked that up in a trade, not sure how long it’ll stick around since it’s a caliber I don’t stockpile. I’ll be at the range tomorrow morning with the Alien and I’ll be comparing it to my TSO and Czechmate.1 point

I loaded some 85gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and Hornady 117gr Round Nose for my Dad many years ago. He shot a Rem. 7600 in .257 Bob. Loaded the 117gr using 34gr of IMR-4064. He liked the mild recoil and accuracy of the load. He kept me busy.1 point

Keep it at my house. Be sure to leave the key in case I need to move it around. I've had my wife for 43 years, and have owned one or more bikes continuously for 48 years. She knows that bikes are part of who I am, and luckily for me, she enjoys riding with me on nice days. I've had a few close calls, but then I've had close calls in the Marine Corps, in cars, out in the woods, and walking across the street. No one gets out alive, you may as well have fun while you're here.1 point

It's seems like I remember seeing in an older Lyman manual where they had there .250 savage load data, and had a Model 99 that had a 1-14" twist. But, maybe I'm having a brain fart.1 point

Thanks he did an awesome job of making it, pretty ingenious to make it work just like a 1911. I'm going to take some pictures of the Bowie Knife you made along with the Sheath that 1911alltheway made. You'll like it both of you hit it out of the park I'll get them posted tomorrow or Monday. Stay tuned.1 point

Well after a comparison to the CZ TSO and Czechmate, the Alien shoots equally as flat as the Czechmate, if not flatter. The Czechmate comes in at 53oz while the Alien is 41oz. There is some loss in round count as the CZs have 20/26 round mags and the Alien has 17 round mags. There is practically no aftermarket support for the Alien where there are a few places for CZ parts. For those who have experienced slide bite, I have a few times by way of a PPK/S, the high beavertail of the Alien may cause flashbacks but thankfully I didn’t experience any. The Alien is far more accurate than I am and once I make a holster for it I’ll take it to work and see how it runs in comparison to the work demands of my Glock.1 point

Kinda-American, if you're pun deaf...... I decided to move on my old faithful Savage Axis .223 for something with a faster twist. The 1:9 was OK, but I've been craving a 1:8 to wring the best accuracy of of 77 grainers. It ended up being donated to a friend for his little boy to use on hogs in Texas. He only 6 (maybe?) & they hunt in thick scrub so accuracy beyond 50yds max was moot. I'm a broke-ass, so high end stuff is a no no & Tikkas are pretty much unobtainable right now. I decided that the Ruger American would fit my budget & needs very well indeed, thankyouverymuch. I placed local want ads & prices ranged from "are you high right now?!" to "you smoked crack before you replied, didn't you." I literally couldn't find anything for less than $150 over retail & no retailers had them in stock. Poo. Well, I happened to get chatting to a customer & fellow shooter & he mentioned that his brother had one he'd be willing to come off, cheap. "How cheap?", I asked, pensively.... "less than 3, more than 2." "Tell him it's sold, we'll argue about the cash later! " Turned out that it's the youth model, compact. Well, I figured if the price was right, it's a barreled action & I can work up from there. I was planning on another sub 20" barrel anyway. $225 & a free dog bath & trim sealed the deal. Damn thing looked like it'd never been shot. I immediately started googling stocks & hit a wall. Boyd's, chassises (plural of chassis? Anyone?) or Ruger. Poo again. I won't have another Boyd's under my roof, cheap & solid as they are. They're just ugly as a mud fence, heavy & none of them seem to fit me properly. Hmmmmm.....chassis? While there are a couple that'll work, none were particularly appealing or affordable by the time you've bought the actual important bits & the ones that were don't work with the 223. Poo x3. Actually, I've since discovered that yes, in fact, they will but it seems like AICS magazine manufacturers & AICS magwell manufacturers don't, can't or won't communicate They do, in fact, make .223 mags that fit in a .308 hole. So, Ruger it is. I blew the dust off my ebay account & found a new take off, in a short action, with the replaceable magwell for $100. Got it, tried it, it fit. Advertised my compact stock the same day & sold it for $100. Sometimes it's good to be lucky! Did further googling, knowing that Ruger makes the Predator model with 3 different mag configurations. Rotary, AR15 & AICS. The rotary is garbage. It's short, unreliable & only seats 4. The AR requires a different bolt (it has a cutout on the underside to allow passage over the feed lips) BUT the AICS might be a go. Google says......maybe. I found out that Ruger will sell you the magwell as long as you give them a serial number ($34, to the door) however, you'll have to argue for a few minutes with customer service because "That part is incompatible & you can't do the conversion with that serial number range" well, they're wrong. There are several threads on the Ruger forum explaining this. It took some convincing & a few white lies ("yes, I've done this before!") but they finally took my money. Got it, bolted it in, job's a good'n. PMag .223 mag ordered. Doesn't work. It even says right there on the page "Will not work with Ruger American Predator." I guess I missed that. Poo x4, verging on 'Dangit!' So, I took a $40 gamble & ordered an MDT magazine. I discovered that the steel AICS mags work great, but they're also $70+! Well, the MDT works perfectly. There is a little rocking, front to back, but not enough to hinder feeding at all. Until you've got 2 left, then the last round catches on the bolt body & tries to double feed. ..............(ping) 30 seconds on the belt sander putting a chamfer on the bolt fixed that (the hell with warranties anyway) I already had a set of 30mm rings & bought a cheap rail (it's a .223, not a .338), installed a tried & tested SWFA 6x & here we are! Sub $400, accurate as all get out (no load testing yet, just a half dozen of my AR bulk reloads under 1" at 80ish yds), under 7lb & still ugly as a blacksmith's thumb! Bolt detail1 point

I think the ones who reload are, and increasingly so. Lots of reloading types had large pistol primers sitting around doing nothing. Now that small pistol primers don't exist, people are getting their .45s out and using those large primers.1 point

I would recommend you stick to the 12ga for your clay shooting. Trap and & SC are 12ga games. Ammo is cheaper and more readily available. 30" bbls good choice unless you are a larger person...then maybe the 32". Heavier gun= less recoil. 12 also has more flexibility with loads to lessen your recoil as well.1 point

There ya have it. Seems like every new gun owner goes out and buys a 9mm. There have been a lot of new gun owners in the last couple of years. So they're making ammo for the general public. Whereas .45acp shooters, especially 1911 shooters, tend to be more serious about their guns and most reload. I have a bunch of .45acp pistols. I haven't bought any factory ammo in years.1 point

The 45 aint unpopular to the experienced gun hands. It is unpopular to first time gun buyers and casual shooters. There is a " shortage " of 45 ammo because everybody is making 9 mm and 556... leroy...1 point
