  1. Update 21-FEB-2022 Five weeks after I shipped it and four weeks after Smith & Wesson checked it into their systems, my new Optics-Ready M&P M2.0 Compact arrived back home today. And it appears that all is well. Rejoicing has occurred. A quick glance at the letter provided inside of the carton showed that Smith and Wesson opted to take the best and most efficient path to resolution and simply replaced the slide with one that hadn't been bunged-up. The new slide has optics mounting screws that aren't cross-threaded and that are appropriately easy to install and remove. I tried it a few times to be sure, and feel that S&W probably did the same before shipping it back out. All said, I am satisfied with the quality of the repair and, again, must recognize that they completed the work sooner than they originally estimated. In fact, they completed sooner than they even told me they would when I checked on the gun just six-days ago. When I contacted them last Tuesday, they were estimating that a gunsmith would see it this week which itself would have been 2-3 weeks sooner than originally predicted. They beat that estimate by a week and beat the overall estimate by three weeks. Not bad. But I will stick to my guns and say it's not good either. This whole thing could have been avoided with some simple quality assurance checks before the gun ever left the factory in the first place, and that more than just a couple of weeks for a service of this nature is not as good as it could or should be. While I am glad to have it back and am happy that it didn't require a full two-months to return to me, I still think something like this should only take 1-2 weeks, at most, to resolve. I'll grudgingly give them a pass since we live in these unprecedented times (let's all gag a little at reading that) in which the US Government competes against industry and makes it viable for laborers to sit on their butts at home rather than join the workforce. But, hey... BIG THANKS to the technicians and service people at Smith & Wesson who ARE showing up for work! Were it not for them, this gun would still be sitting in a pile somewhere. Now, I need to put an optic on this thing and see how it runs. I'm starting to feel some of the same excitement that I did when I first opened the box a month ago. With, you know, that whole delay in there.

  2. The Dan Wesson Guardian listed in middle tn by ShootRMgavn for $975 is the best 1911 in 9mm you will find for under $1000. Dan Wesson's are easily better than most $2000 and up 1911's. I have one I would never part with.

  3. Charter Arms UC Lite .38 Special Cerakote black and brown, more like an FDE than brown though. Recently sent back to Charter for a complete internal overhaul. So it’s basically new inside. I can include a cheap-o holster. $300 obo. In Dickson area, but frequently in Nashville.

  4. SOLD!!! This one isn't nearly as large as most of the Bowies I make. It's made from 1/4" thick 1084 carbon steel. From guard to tip it's 7 1/2" and OAL is right at 12 3/4". The guard is made from a chunk of brass and has a spalted oak handle with Padauk and G10 accents. It has a false edge and a hammer forged look. The price is $160 shipped and includes the combo kydex/leather sheath. I'd prefer this to be paid for with a check or MO. Thanks for lookin'!

  5. ***SOLD*** Riflw is sold. Arken still available if anyone is interested. $420 with rings, $395 without rings. I preordered this rifle back in March when they were first announced. They were then due out in May. Didn’t get it until December. At that point I had moved on. Probably only about 100 rounds down range. I did drill two holes in the stock for an Arca rail, which can be included for an extra $120 (rail and barricade stop). Currently it is not mounted. Comes with 10 & 5 rnd magazines. It’s the carbon barrel version, so it’s super lightweight. This would make an excellent small game hunting rig or youth rifle given the weight! The optic is Arken SH4 Gen 2 MRAD 6-24x50 with FFP (front focal plane) and 34mm tubes mounted on Arken rings. I’m over 11 bills into this rifle that I’m not going to shoot. May as well get rid of it. Located in South Nashville. $950 Trades considered, but mostly looking for cash. I added a couple of pictures to show the drilled holes under the stock and the optional Arca rail.

  10. So I was leaving Big Bend NP Friday night. Late. On the long highway headed towards the interstate I passed multiple LEOs. State Trooper, County Sheriffs, and what I assume were city police. They would just park facing my direction of travel on the opposite side and twice I had them pull out and follow me for ten miles or so. The speed limit was like 75 and I was going 70 with cruise control on so no reason to follow me. After a while they would just slowly drop back and then pull over again. Now, is BBNP on the border? Yes. Were they checking my tags for warrants? possibly but no reason to do so. I figured they were just hoping I'd swerve or do something so they could pull me over.

  11. Bingo! I’ve seen them many times on I-40 going to Memphis. The counties sheriffs and local jurisdictions use the assets they seize for their department budgets.

  13. This is inaccurate. Barrel length and gas system length are not directly related. There are some rules, like don't run a rifle length gas system on a 12.5" barrel, but for the most part, you can find different systems on different barrel lengths. The truth is, a properly tuned system will work no matter what system you chose and what barrel length you chose. carbine barrel - 16" rifle barrel - 20" pistol gas system - 4" carbine gas - 7" mid-length gas - 9" rifle length gas - 12" Gas port size, gas port location, buffer weight and buffer spring are each a piece of a formula used to tune the gas system of a well built AR. A good builder will measure the gas port of the barrel that he has and use that to help determine buffer weight and spring combos. Here is some information from SOLGW about gas ports. They include what they use and what the TDP calls for.

  14. That's the old .38/44 High Velocity load. Predecessor to the .357 magnum. It should only be used in strong, large frame guns. It won't blow up smaller framed guns, but it will accelerate and cause un-necessary wear. Plus its downright unpleasant to shoot in smaller guns.

  15. Maybe I'm missing something here and I read it all. There is nothing saying you cannot get more training even now. But ya aint getting it for free. Go get as much as you can handle. There is plenty out there to be had. I think this bill is just worded wrong and could care less about it. I've been carrying for decades before I moved to TN. I carry now 99.25% of the time. I haven't really had any desire to go somewhere where I am not allowed to carry and could care less. In fact, haven't even ran across any. It's pretty much a known fact that gun folks that are deep into this hobby could outshoot most leos.... But difference is they have to shoot under stress while we play with just targets. LEO's jobs are just that. Most I know do not carry off duty because to them a gun is just a tool like a hammer is to a carpenter. They wear it all day and when they get home, everything gets dumped in their edc tray or wherever. And yea, quite a few suck at shooting. We don't need this dumb bill., We need the proper wording of the recent constitutional carry just passed. That would probably resolve the bulk of the problem. If there was anything to worry about, that should be something to be concerned. At least we are getting trained or practicing in one way or another. The new no permit needed carry bs should concern everyone. I am not against it. But I know people will just go buy a gun, tote it and know jack about it. A year or so, a kid I know just bout his first gun when he turned of age with the enhanced permit. Good on him. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 20ft. (It was a Performance Shop S&W). I told him I'd take it and see if it needed to be adjusted. The gun was spot on. I broke it down and it was filthy. I told him take a course and learn to clean his weapons. He couldn't take it apart or figure out how. He had this tall guy there that kinda looked like Trace Adkins. He couldn't figure it out either and was looking to add to his collection. I don't own any S&W at that time and they freaked when I broke it down in seconds. Big guy said, 'you see that? he just did it with one hand'.... Point I'm trying to make here is it seems we are clamoring about it - (the proposed law), giving us some sort of leo advantage. It's bs, we don't need it. Someone is looking for votes. Lets get what needs fixing on the current laws and start voting out these rinos that do nothing but try make names for themselves.

  19. The first click happens within the first 1/4 " of hammer movement. At that point the spring does not have enough energy to fire the primer. There are several videos on You Tube that show this and directly prove Baldwin's claim is not only false, but impossible. The old empty chamber under the hammer is in the event that the gun is dropped. But it would have to land directly on the hammer with considerable force to fire a cartridge.

  21. 2015 is officially the year of the AK for me. This year alone I have purchased two Century (CAI) "Iraqi Contractor" Romanian WASR 10's, a 2013 production Century (CAI) Romanian WASR 10, Century (CAI) Romanian RPK AES10B, + a Yugoslavian N-PAP DF. I have another Century (CAI) "Iraqi Contractor" Romanian WASR10 + a Century (CAI) Romanian Draco AK pistol en route to my FFL as I write this. As you can see, I am a fan of the weapon system through + through. At the present moment, I am debating the purchase of a Arsenal SLR107FR but I am stuck on if I should pick the variant with plum furniture or all black. Decisions, decisions! Without further ado, I present to you my humble selection of AK's. 22. Wow that might be the longest name for a pistol ever. This is the Performance Center model with Fiber Optic Sights, 4" barrel, Optics Ready Slide, Factory Included Crimson Trace Red Dot, and cleaning kit. Includes 1x13 round mag and 1x10 round mag. All these new Shield Plus models have fantastic triggers for a striker fired pistol. The grip is thin side to side for easy carry but thicker front to back for better grip stability relative to other compact 9mm's out there. This is in Like New In Box condition. I bought it new at the store and have taken it to the range 2-3 times. Only selling it because I have 2 others nearly identical to it. Turns out I have only 2 hands and don't need all 3 pistols. $750 OBO $700, FTF Transaction in or near Murfreesboro.

  23. The G26 is sold pending meet on Sunday. Still have the Crimson Trace grip that will fit a G26 or G27. Asking $125. Updated ad: Have found the gun that I wanted so now changing this ad over to for sale. Price is $475 without CT Lasergrip or $600 with it. Might still consider a trade for a nice upper for a pistol build. Wanting to trade or maybe sell my Gen 4 G26 for a gen 4 or 5 G19, maybe a M&P 2.0 or something similar in that order of preference. G26 is about 6 years old, in good condition with 400-500 rounds through it. Slide, mag release, and slide stop are cerakoted in Magpul FDE. There are a few areas where the cerakote is worn on the slide... one that looks like a scratch but its just a long strip of worn finish, and a small worn spot on either side of the ejection port. Also a couple other small worn spots on the cerakoted pierce extension from carrying. Has crimson trace laser grip that can be included or I can sell separately if trade partner does not want. Willing to add cash if needed on my end. Has leather Desantis OWB holster, 2 mags, one has a matching cerakoted pierce grip extension, original box and paperwork. Still has original Glock sights mounted. I'll have to figure out a sale price with and without the Laser Grip, but would rather trade. added: I think I have 3 magazines... I just moved a few months ago so must have misplaced it, but I'm sure I still have it. edit for additional info: found the 3rd mag. Two mags are cerakoted +2 Pearce extensions, 3rd mag has Pearce pinky extension, non-cerakoted. Also forgot I had a CQC locking paddle holster to go with it... pics added. Edit: price drop to $475 without or $600 with CT lasergrip Thanks

  27. Man, @Cartel you're quite the AK collector! I only have one, but I love it. Bought it as a 1969 Polish parts kit and used an 80% receiver. It was a lot of work, especially since it came with a new barrel so I had to do my own pinning of the barrel and headspacing on top of the drilling and riveting of the receiver. I eventually found a period correct Polish bayonet for it, so with the rifle finally "complete", I had to mark the occasion by watching Red Dawn with the AK on display!

  30. Actually I have had quite a bit of “one on one” training for armed defense. Other “group”courses as well. And as you say it never hurts to get more The words of my first instructor (two day course) will always resonate with me: “Edward, if you want to live you have to move. Back or side just move” Second time I trained with him one on one: “Don’t forget…move..,move…move. Am from out west and don’t see as many people attending courses out here could just be my perception

  33. I like the 38 special in most all flavors. I carry an old model Ruger vaquero sheriff stoked with 173 grainers n a heavy charge of 2400 that will develop about 1200 fps out of the 3 3/4 barrel in 38 special cases from time to time. I also like all flavors of " j " frames with full wadcutters at 38 special velocities as well. Used ta carry one quite a bit. leroy...

  37. I normally carry a 442 once or twice a week. I used to have a 3 inch barrel J frame, but I just didn’t see an advantage to it. For ammo, I carry run of the mill wad cutters. I’ve studied the .38 special loads. And I mean seriously studies them. Most of the bullets are designed for a .357 mag out of a 6 inch barrel. No way a .38 special is going to generate velocities for reliable expansion, regardless of barrel length. There are very few, and I’m mean few, bullets that can expand from a .38 special, the only one I can recall is the Federal HST, which is an oddly loaded and very specific bullet designed for a snub nose .38. So, why wad cutters? Well bullets do to the body what they do on paper. A wad cutter punches a nice clean hole, breaking and cutting tissue and bone, and if they hit bone, they dramatically tumble. Any sort of conical bullet hits tissue and pushes it aside, or glances off bone. If the bullet pushes tissue aside, the the tissue just returns to where it was after the bullet leaves. Think of your paper target, if you see that sort of shot hole, you can actually push the paper back in place, that is exactly what happens to tissue. Most people don’t realize how elastic the human body is. Anyway, long story short, carry wad cutters in your .38 special!
