And in 30 years you may be pining for the cheap prices we're enjoying today. Ha!4 points

I paid $25 for my original 1942 Mauser sniper (no scope). $35 for my factory fresh hex receiver Mosins. $125 each for 10 Winchesters and Rockollas. $85 for my SKS with a case of ammo thrown in. Yes, those were the days. My first Garand cost $135.3 points

If you want one, bite the bullet and plunk down the cash for a nice one. They aren’t getting any cheaper, and you won’t ever regret buying quality.3 points

Hey everyone! Another west coast escapee here, I was able to get out of the Democratic People's Republic of Kalifornia (aka the DPRK) back in September and recently found this board. I'm not a man of many words but I will look to jump in and contribute where I can! As the name suggests, I do have a classic '67 Mustang that once belonged to my grandmother. Interesting backstory; after she passed the family was cleaning out her garage and lo and behold, the Mustang everyone thought she sold was hiding under a pile of boxes. Thousands of dollars later, I have an *almost* restored Mustang that now sits under a car cover in my garage. Haha.2 points

I thought I would share some photos of a pocketknife that I picked up recently. This is the Peña Mula X-Series knife. It is a frame lock knife with titanium scales (mine has brown Micarta inlays) and an M390 blade. This knife packs a sheepsfoot profile blade with a respectable 3.25" length into a very slim, lightweight and classy package. It's the kind that you could whip out for a quick chore in an office setting without scaring the gentle people, but also has enough substance to it that you could use it for a defensive weapon if you had to. Specs are: Overall Length 7.625" Blade Length 3.25" Cutting Edge 3.125” Blade Material M390 Pivot: Ceramic Bearings. Detent: Ceramic Finish: Bead Blasted Body: Titanium. Pocket clip: Titanium Back spacer: Copper Anodized Pivot collar: Titanium You can expect to pay around $290 for one straight from PenaKnives.com if you are lucky to catch one in stock. Other retailers sell them and of course you'll see them traded/sold on the secondary market. Used, for maybe a little less money. New, for a bit more. The secondary market on popular knives tends to be a little "opportunistic" when it comes to pricing. I am pretty tickled with mine. It's got a good action to it, flips open authoritatively via the thumb studs, locks securely thanks to the well-tuned frame lock and detent, and the M390 steel holds an edge very well. I would imagine that my kids will be fighting over who inherits this one.2 points

Very true. While we won't see the kind of price increases that have occurred since supplies of older milsurps dried up in the primary market, those that become available through the secondary market won't ever be significantly cheaper than they are now. Sure, like everything else, bargains will crop up occasionally, some folks will get in financial difficulties and have to do a firesale, and there's always the kindly old neighbor who lets you have their old warhorse on the cheap, but in the future the market won't be down very much for very long and prices will creep up for many years to come ...2 points

I bought both of them. Eventually I want to form 1 both of them obviously for the stock on the SP5 and specifically so I can put the VFG on the K model. I've had a couple of them. the later SP5s had drum peep sights instead of the notched drum sight which i guess is more correct.2 points

For a more recent data point, I bought one of the M1 Carbines from Midway in June 2021. Price was $1854.55 out the door after tax for a Vg-fine condition National Postage Meter. I have a C&R so that saved the transfer/TICS. That seemed high at the time, but I knew a year later it would look at least reasonable, if not downright cheap. I think I was right. Note: Midway did NOT include a magazine. I picked up a couple of USGI milsurp mags in the wax paper from Brownells (That was another $85) along with a couple of ProMags from Midway for another $34. Pics of mine can be seen here: https://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/119828-m-1-carbines/?do=findComment&comment=16212172 points

Solid advice Greg. As I told a friend yesterday asking about ammo prices, buy it when you want it because buying it when you need it is too late.2 points

Hey folks. While trying to make some improvements to the forum this morning at around 6:30AM Central, I actually caused some pretty ugly problems. A bunch of user accounts got moved into different statuses which weren't accurate. After a few hours of trying to roll-back the changes, I decided that the best course was to just revert to a backup that I made of everything just after midnight. This proved successful. The bad news is that if you posted any replies or new threads between 12:01AM today and around 6:30AM today, you are going to have to redo them. The good news is that I reconciled the data that we had against PayPal and our credit card processor and there were no new Benefactor or Lifetime Benefactor memberships to true-up. *whew* I apologize for the inconvenience caused by our unexpected downtime today. This was 100% my fault. I am going to go ahead and turn the forum back on now and let you all catch up and get your fix of TGO.2 points

When I was in college I stood next to a barrel of Enfields for $79.99 each. I should have bought the entire barrel. Woulda Shoulda Coulda....2 points

These days a decent M1 Carbine starts at $1000 and just goes up from there. As for where to find, well good luck with that. They just don't exist as plain Mil-Surps anymore. Nobody stocks them. You're gonna have to either watch the auction sites or just get lucky. I have two of them and love those little rifles.2 points

Nothing adds more enjoyment to the act of coming together to celebrate the Second Amendment quite like seeing our numbers expand. Newcomers bring fresh perspectives, new ideas, practical questions and exciting new energy. We love to see new members joining the Tennessee Gun Owners community! In order to improve the way new members are integrated into the community, we are making some changes. First... As a newcomer, you will begin your journey with us as with the New Member designation. Special Badge: Your content will have a special indicator letting folks know that you are new to TGO will be shown on your content whenever you post. Private Messages: You will be able to receive and reply to private messages, but you will not be able to create them. This helps us combat spam accounts. Second... After you have been with us for at least ten (10) days and contributed to public content at least ten (10) times, your account will be moved to Active Member status. Private Messages: Once you have Active Member status, you will be able to send new private messages as well as receive and reply to them. Ten Days, Ten Posts: Again, you can automatically move out of New Member status by being with us for at least 10 days and making at least 10 public posts. But what about Benefactors? All of the above can be bypassed by becoming a Benefactor member. You can do that by clicking here. A Benefactor membership is a cheap way to support the TGO community monetarily. It gives you the ability to make non-commercial ads in our Trading Post forums. It bypasses all of the new member restrictions. Our Benefactor members truly have "skin in the game" and are the lifeblood of TGO. We hope that you will consider becoming one, if not now - down the road.2 points

Aw, what the Hell. I'll post my tacti-cool Carbine. Its a 1943 Standard Products rifle. I had to replace the barrel a couple of years ago due to a cracked gas cylinder. The new barrel is a 1970s replacement. No longer being original I brought it into the 21st Century as a shooter. Don't worry, My 1943 Inland is just like Uncle Sam issued it.1 point

Moped I really don't like no visible street signage for businesses. They are all behind greenery and hard to see. Not accustomed to not seeing signage from the driver seat. Makes it hard for me to find my way around. Old school I suppose? Well wife can use her phone to get us around. Put Hunt X app on my phone to get horse trails marked. That thing is great to use in finding unmarked property lines in the woods.1 point

Correct. Of course it makes sense it had to end at some point. WWII ended over 75 years ago, a lot of the cheap milsurps dated from that era. The great rearming with select fire and automatic weapons was well on the way by the late 50's, leading many countries to either divest their older, bolt action and semiautomatic weapons or mothball them for a worst-case scenario. Most of these stored weapons got released during the last great flood of imports in the 90's and early 2000's after the fall of the old Comm-bloc governments. There's been a slow trickle of available milsurps since then, but stockpiles of these have either dried up completely or are no longer available to the US market for a variety of reasons, only a few of which are our own doing. It's nice sometimes to reminisce about the "good old days" of cheap milsurp weapons and ammo, but it was a perfect storm of events that allowed that in the first place, and that sequence that will never be repeated ...1 point

Then you really don't want to know about the days of mail order arms shipped directly to your house, often for $10-20 per rifle ...1 point

You could walk out of Kmart with an sks for $89. I know where one is sitting right now that has sat in the same spot since it was brought home from Kmart in 1992.1 point

Must have been a heck of a time. I've heard stories about $100 SKSs, $70 Mosins with a span can of ammo, and $25 German Mausers. I was slightly too young to take advantage.1 point

Are you specifically wanting one for collecting purposes ? Because most good deals on milsurps are gone1 point

The truth is that they’ve pretty much all been collected at this point. Expect to pay out the ass at this point. Those unrealistic prices aren’t unrealistic anymore. That’s simply the price now.1 point

Pretty simple to test, home kits and cvs. Home tests 20 bucks for 2 tests, cvs minute clinic is fast free and easy. These are ANTIGEN test and indicate if you have a high enough viral load to be contagious. You may get a NEG if new onset or resolving, The PCR is looking for RNA. Mind you this could be a complete virus or an old fragmented virus that the test is seeing, it's just more precise. Also you can get a ANTIBODY level at labcorp for 10 bucks, not need for a doc. Antibody can tell you your "RESISTANCE" to an organism/or natural antibodies and have been exposed. No AB is no vax and never sick. Although C19 has NOT had a safe antibody level established, another reason that it's BS to just randomly say to get a booster when you do t even know what a tinody level anyone is... makes zero scientific sense... Vitamin D, vitamin c, melatonin, scope mouthwash/gargle, quercitin, NAC, Zinc are all great to take. If you want a vax the Novavax is more.like a flushot then scrambling your RNA, they just submitted EUA, Moderna CEO just dumped stock and deleted his twitter..Twitter... you can decide how good that is.1 point

I’ve already put about 200 rounds through it. Shoots (groups) better than I thought it would. Really happy with it for the money.I’ve ordered a leather pancake style holster for it.1 point

My mystery 1911. All G.I. parts. A mixture of 1911 and 1911A1 parts. 1914 Springfield U.S Arsenal frame with a Colt slide. Looks like brand new. All parts are properly military marked. But no arsenal rebuild marks. Best anybody can figure, this gun was put together from parts. By who or why is completely unknown. Just another Army issue 1911 mixmaster.1 point
