This was my first thought . There were already several officers and highway patrol covering the guy with their weapons. Then two more officers approach the the scene with shotguns. Why couldn’t someone employ less than lethal on him while he’s standing there with the box cutter? Maybe my expectations are unrealistic, but I expect more professionalism from the highway patrol. I was an army Military Policeman and very briefly a corrections officer. Two things both of those jobs stressed and required were the ability to be able to deescalate and communicate. In the army you’re dealing with some people who can easily kick your ass at any time and in corrections all you have is your voice and a radio to save your behind. In the body cam video the officer talking was a good thing, but it also sounded like someone covering his ass if he had to shoot. Good move. Other than that, there were no attempts to use less than lethal force prior to the now deceased pulling his hand from his pocket. In any situation similar to this, I’d rather see less than lethal force applied prematurely as opposed to someone getting killed or a having an officer injured. The repercussions for using less lethal prematurely are less severe than those that will be faced for discharging a firearm. Someone mentioned that people would still complain about the use of less than lethal force. Perhaps, but it’s not a career ending event where the officers potentially faces jail and financial ruin. Just my two cents. Have a good weekend.4 points

Well I finally did it. I got a PSD. I must say this thing feels awesome in the hand. It has some weight to it but it is balanced really well. I got the 9mm barrel just to make it cheaper to play with. I did buy 400 rounds of 7.5 FK. 300 for target shooting and 100 for hunting. I will probably end up putting a RMR on it but now I am just going to use the iron sights. Right now I have the ghost ring rear sight and big orange diamond for the front.3 points

Crazy people can kill you just as easily as a sane person. I have seen "the mentality ill" get less mentality ill when a firearm comes out. It's safer for a homeless person to be perceived as crazy in the streets. Less likely to be pray however there are some truly crazy MFers I've encountered. Dude with a machete wanting to cut a guy's hands off for stealing comes to mind.3 points

No, the dead guy was as white as white can be. Crazy though. The reason the widow was with the NAACP is simple: $$$$$$$$$3 points

I was at the right place and right time to find this old dinosaur. I am a sucker for the old Ruger P-series pistols. They are fat , big , and clunky but they run forever until the good Lord comes back. This is the P95. It has the fiberglass frame and the frame rails that the slide rides on is the same fiber glass that the frame is made of. So a slide that rides on fiber glass instead of metal . I was always worried about this but no one has had one ever fail or wear down. This one was never fired and is new in the box. Still has the danger/warning sticker on the frame. When I was turning 21 the Ruger P-Series 85 and 89 were coming out and they were my first pistol. They would run no matter what I put in them and when dirty they still never failed. I just thought Id share this with you guys. have a good day !2 points

I agree many of the auditors are jerks, my question why do so many of the cops play along. Enforce the law, that's it. Demanding this or demanding that may work with most people that do not know their rights but hoping that the people your dealing with do not know the law is not good policing. Here is one I see all the time. Cop pulls someone over for a traffic violation. Demands ID from everyone in the car. They refuse to do so and the cop in one case arrested the passenger for failure to ID. Case was later dropped. Lawsuit ensued. I think there should be limits to the cops qualified immunity. Also cops should not be allowed to lie and tell people something is a law that is not.2 points

Catch 22 situation is absolutely spot on! Effective non-lethal needs to be used in anticipation, prior to crazy hurting himself or others. Progressives would argue this is stepping on his rights, humiliating and degrading or even risking physical harm for something the crazy "might do". Like he "might" have a loaded gun down in his pocket where his hand is. Like he might start blasting it at innocent bystanders. Officers are at risk of jail time if optics or outcome isn't to the public's liking. Alternatively you wait and see with guns drawn while trying to reason with a man who nobody else up to that point has successfully reasoned with. Wait and see if he does have a loaded gun in his pocket. If it is just a pipe he draws and points at them well..... Officers risk jail time if optics or outcome isn't to the public's liking. Classic Catch 22.2 points

Mentally Ill were turned out, years ago in TN, when they closed all the State Run facilities. They did that because of all the law suites which took 20 years to settle all of them. I think all the states did the same, so there are few facilities to house them. So now the Police are faced with dealing with them on the streets, basically. Dealing with the mentally ill is not an easy thing to do.2 points

Not a lot of concern from reporting about innocent bystanders in backed up traffic. If hand in pocket was possible gun then killing him asap was correct. If there was an effective method to (non lethal) take him down before he made a threatening move then it should have been tried but the anti-police would have complained about that too so.... "Firing squad" at the ready justified to prevent crazy man from shooting stray rounds into stopped cars perhaps? What difference does 2 cops vs 10 cops make? These guys are not always marksmen. Would be interesting to get final ratio of hits and misses. Shots after threat was down? Couldn't see but perhaps he was still moving, object still in hand? As for wife or GF....she was afraid of him, he tried to kill her. Suddenly she has the NAACP woman with her in front of cameras? Am I missing something? Is the guy black? If Not then perhaps it's good that finally word gets out that cops don't just shoot minorities. Can't fathom why anyone would be a Cop in this day and age. Hope these guys get fair treatment.2 points

I will wait for all the evidence to be reviewed and the shooting report before I make a judgment.2 points

The original video showed the guys arm move and then the additional shots were fired, The decommissioning is BS IMO, you fire to eliminate a threat, the threat was not over to the observer, and I would have done the same thing in his position. The additional shots made no difference to the perp surviving this incident, so it is all about the optics, but they are pandering to the wrong side of this.2 points
-
IMO nothing wrong with shooting. The guy blocking traffic pulled an object from his pocket and took a shooting stance while pointing object at officers. Granted, some delayed shots fired after guy was on ground and not an apparent threat. But dead is dead and with the number of initial shots fired....well, bad optics.2 points

Here's a nifty article that outlines several of (former) Det. Dunaway's transgressions. It appears that Dunaway took a voluntary resignation 7/2007 after getting caught giving false testimony in another trial. It's a common (and unfortunate) practice, and one that MNPD, as well as other departments have a tendency of doing with disgraced officers. I have to ask why an incident that resulted in a plea deal where Dunaway resigned from the department was not reported to the POST commission. For those not in the know, the POST commission certifies police officers, if their certification is revoked they don't have the ability to work for another department. Another example of this involved Ofc. Chad Knaggs who is currently a Sergeant with the City of Springhill. (I'll post article below). Knaggs took a voluntary resignation from Metro after he was charged with assault for using excessive force when he repeatedly kneed a suspect in a wheelchair. The article that I'm posting elaborates on MNPDs history with voluntary resignations. I'll end this post by clarifying that by no means am I anti police, I just have no tolerance for public servants who don't do their jobs correctly. http://thenews.org/2016/05/05/interim-chiefs-past-raises-questions/ https://www.newschannel5.com/news/newschannel-5-investigates/some-metro-police-disciplinary-actions-going-unreported2 points

### SOLD! ### Upgrade your Gen 5 Glock 19 or Glock 45 with this ZEV Orion Slide made of 17-4 Stainless Steel and coated in an insanely durable Black DLC finish. This is available WITH or WITHOUT the Trijicon RMR Model RM07 6.5MOA optic. (See pricing below) The slide will include the Zev Iron Sights that you see in the photos. (These retail for $115) Splitting the Set? If the slide sells first, without the Trijicon RMR, I will list the RMR separately. Until the slide sells, I want to keep this together as a set for potential buyers. Physical Condition: The slide is stripped of internals except for the striker channel liner, exactly how it came from Zev. The slide is in 8/10 condition. There are two small signs of holster wear that I show in the photos. They are on the leading edge of the slide, one on either side. I circled them in red. These do not and will not corrode thanks to the slide being made of 17-4 Stainless. The slide is used. It shows no signs of premature wear, abuse, failure, etc. It's in great shape! The Trijicon RM06 Type-2 optic is in excellent condition. No scratches on the lens or optic body and it functions perfectly. The Type-2 design allows for auto-adjusting to lighting conditions, or you can override and set the brightness of the 6.5MOA dot manually. Why am I selling it? I am selling it because I've moved to an Agency Arms Glock 19. I don't have a need for this slide anymore. Sale Value? Slide MSRP is $550. They are out of stock everywhere right now. Iron sights MSRP is $115 Trijicon RM06 Type-2 optic MSRP is $470 Terms of Sale? $400 if you just want the slide with iron sights ONLY. $800 if you want the slide with iron sights and Trijicon RMR RM06. These prices will include S&H to you in the lower 48 states. If you want insurance, it will be extra. If you're in HI or AK, we'll need to talk about shipping charges. I greatly prefer to ship versus meeting in person. My schedule sucks. It's an option, but it will be difficult. Payment needs to be CASH money or PayPal F&F. (If paying a PayPal Goods & Services, please add 3% to cover the fees and insurance that it buys you) Here are the photos. Again, the blems are circled in red in two of the photos. There are no other blems, but despite my best effort to brush away all of the dust particles, there are plenty of them in the extreme close-ups. Click on the photo to have the forum software show you the full-size version. If you want additional photos, just ask and I will try to accommodate.1 point

Perhaps the lawyer is a civil attorney who just also has an association with the NAACP and a background in dealing with officer involved misconduct. I have no problem with the family immediately obtaining an attorney. Regardless if the deceased was right or wrong, this is still a trying time for his family, and at this moment they may not be able to effectively gather and communicate their thoughts. Their actions are the same actions that any of us would take if we were involved in a shooting. Shut up and get a lawyer.1 point

The 10mm round will sit higher than a .45 because of the smaller case diameter. Depending on your particular feedlip design, it may or may not work well. When I shot .40 single stack in USPSA, I used .45 mags with a good rate of success.1 point

Truer words never spoken. Good fences make good neighbors too. I've been VERY lucky in my life as all my neighbors were neutral at worst, some were excellent. None were jackasses, thank goodness. This guy's wife says he's bi-polar, which explains a lot, IMO. I think I still will root for the doggies over the guy & the cops.1 point

Is this a complete collection of P series pistols? If so, that’s pretty cool, and probably a pretty good investment. If not, how many are you missing?1 point

A lot of times those so-called "auditors" are horse's asses, IMO. They'd be better served auditing school board meetings instead, IMO. I do recall the TN State Trooper who trashed his entire career & got fired back during the Occupy Wall Street bull####. He was at the Capital, standing post & literally stomped up to the guy filming. Got right in his face DI style (I was a Marine) & began screaming at him. Not a good PR look, IMO. Got fired over it PDQ, IIRC? Cops don't have it easy, let's be clear on that. Black people in the projects hate them because the only time they see cops is when they're hauling off a family member to jail. Kids in the projects are taught to hate cops & it just keeps rolling from there, sadly. Too often cops are their own worst enemies, enabled by their brothern who don't say anything about their bad behavior. Too often some shouldn't be cops but they're not qualified to be a garbageman or dishwasher due to a lack of skills. Those are the ones who seem to make the news too often. Nor is it limited to the TN or Nashville area. Years ago a Smyrna cop got fired for pulling a black female through the open window of her car because she refused to sign her traffic ticket. Seriously? He got fired too, rightfully so. There's a sheriff in Grundy Co who has been arrested & charged with beating handcuffed prisoners. Brave man there. Story below.1 point

To be honest, I thought they were every bit as good as the Beretta 92 the Military adopted. For the time, I didn't think they were crude at all. I had the P-89 and it would eat anything you fed it, even that hard primer machinegun ammunition that used to be available. Couldn't say that for every wonder nine of the day. Friend of mine had a SIG that hated that stuff.1 point

The sad part is, other detectives/officers HAD to know about this false testimony and/or bad conduct but said NOTHING about it. Hard to earn the respect of the public with things like this, IMO.1 point

They are fat and I guess you'd say crude but they run and run. Their slides are cast steel and the metal frame are cast aluminum. I've never seen one fail. They were Rugers entry into the 80s "wonder nine" pistols like the Beretta 92 and SW 59 series.1 point

What I would like to know is why people don't put their city in their listing. If I'm on mobile I can't see your location and some people don't even list their location in their profile to begin with. This should be common sense. I can't call you how many times I've seen someone have to ask what part of the state they are in.1 point

Thanks! It started life as a blue carbon steel gun. STI's bluing is sometimes iffy and I apparently have alien acid sweat. After six months of hard use, it looked like a WW2 Remington Rand and I sent it to STI to get hard chromed before it completely rusted away. When it came back and I opened the box, I just about lost my composure. Some have thought it's just a safe queen, but it has 20-25K rounds through it and has won eight or ten IDPA ESP division titles. In some other thread I think I said a Glock 34 is my all time favorite handgun. I may have lied...1 point

This is an old picture. I've added more since this was taken. 1959 Colt Commander .45acp. My EDC. CMP 1911. 1942 Colt frame with an Ithica slide. 1964 Clark Longslide. Still as accurate today as when it was made.1 point
