So thrilled to live in a free state, relocated from LA area in November. The Lord opened doors for us to be here, bought a new construction home here in Spring Hill. Getting used to this weather! I was overwhelmed at the variety of firearms available here that are not available new from a dealer in California due to their onerous and illogical laws.3 points

If you aren't familiar with the oddities of Mateba, you weren't THAT involved in the gun business. Sitting behind a counter in a typical fudd shop ain't gonna show you much of anything. Mateba made some really interesting and unique designs. It's worth researching companies like Mateba and Manurhin and Pardini and other foreign companies from the 20th century.3 points

My grandson called me tonight and told me he and his sister went hunting today with a school mate. They harvested a squirrel and a dove. They are cleaning them and his mother is going to cook them for the kids and his friend. He said his friend goes to school with him and his father has a farm in the Charleston S Carolina area. I gave Parker a Mossberg 20 Ga pump and Chloe a Ruger10 22 rifle. Parker is 13 and his sister is 11, but very small. She can out shoot Parker. His friend could not believe the guns Parker has which I gave him and his sister. Son-in-law said the friend is eat up with hunting and fishing so it is my hope Parker and Chloe will gain a greater appreciation for the shooting and hunting thing. Their dads took them out today and spent 6 hours out with them. Parker's dad said ammo was really expensive. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT! Maybe SIL will appreciate what I gave them last year. I have another load of guns I am going to take to them next month. Giving my guns away, to my grandchildren, before I pass on.1 point

I hate titling this topic "Kyle's Law" as it really is a poor choice from an optics standpoint but you can thank Rep. Ben Griffey for that. Griffey introduced a bill in the TN House today that "would require the state to reimburse defendants found not guilty of homicide charges due to self-defense. The payment would be decided in court and could be denied if the defendant was acting criminally." https://fox17.com/news/local/tennessee-lawmaker-proposes-2nd-amendment-bill-in-honor-of-hero-kyle-rittenhouse-kenosha-wisconsin-gun-rights-crime-courts-usa-news-politics https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/590457-tennessee-lawmaker-presents-self-defense-bill-in-honor-of-kyle-rittenhouse https://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=HB17691 point

I've been involved in the gun business one way or another for over 30 years. I was privileged to learn a lot from the late George Crouse, who sold mostly European rifles and shotguns at the old Pope & Goodman gun shows. I've seen hundreds of guns come into play for working up a trade one way or another. I've worked TN gun shows from Memphis to Morristown and almost every stop in between. Big towns, small towns. I'd thought I'd seen everything there is to see regarding something that goes bang. I've even held the very rare Whitney Wolverine and a two-position rifle. While cruising through Gun Broker I submitted a bid on a H&K H4 in .22LR caliber. Of course the system laughed and rejected my pitiful bid immediately. As I sometimes do, I went to the button to "see seller's other listings". Scrolling through there I saw this never-been-seen-before-to-me revolver. It's in .38spl and it's Italian made, of course. (They & the French build the weirdest things, IMO.) Current bid on GB is over $2K, so apparently the value & quality are there. I guess it helps it's in a common caliber & not some eclectic Euro caliber that no one makes ammo for in the US. If anyone has held one, I'd be interested in hearing about it. It appears to be well-made and smooth looking despite the oddity of its appearance. The Mateba MRT-8 .38spl.1 point

There a Russian Deathcore band that are just really damn awesome. And yes, I would say darker than slipknot. On the other hand, slipknot sneaks in a whole lot of heavy death metal and hard-core elements into the music that people don’t really notice. They’re sneaky like that.1 point

Greg I hate to bust your bubble, but primers are about like .22 ammo, there probably never has been much profit. I think the only reason they sell us any primers is they have such a glut, more than they need to make us ready to shoot ammo. This thought has run across my mind before, but think about it all the folks that shoot and reload somebody would have already done it. As said in previous posts, you have to jump thru 14,003 hoops before you could even get a box of 100 primers produced. However if you figure out a way, I bet we could make enough money to buy worms to fish with!!1 point

I have two with rails. I didn't buy them for the rail, they just came that way. One does have a light on it and serves as my "house" gun. I'd never carry it as the light makes it bulky and awkward. Honestly, I prefer the light being separate from the pistol. But I do have it so what the hell? And once again a thread has been sidetracked from its original point by a completely unrelated discussion. Seems to be a bad habit around here. Can we please just get back to bashing FN's new monstrosity? IT AIN'T A HI-POWER!1 point

Hudson H9 Group contains: Original box 3x 15rnd mags 1x17 rnd mags Pistol This is a Hudson H9 made in temple TX. Comes with all the original gear and an extra 17rnd mag. Personally I equate it to a Glock with the fit and finish of a nice 1911. Asking $1100 for all Open to trades on a gen 4 or 5 Glock 9mm plus cash, prefer MOS and not heavily modified. 70498940081 point

Mags are proprietary, and there's definitely some heft for sure but the recoil mitigation is great. I'd say it was the "Glock killer" of it's time being the best mix of 1911 and Glock attributes.1 point

Never owned one but it's a widely known name in the handgun collector community. Most notably for their "auto revolver" which was basically a pre Chiappa Rhino but 20x as rare and valuable. Sadly a "want list" gun I'll never acquire.1 point

Wow, that looks interesting! Too rich for me, but still interesting. I wonder how the firing mechanism works.... Looks like there are a couple of YouTube videos featuring this revolver. Gonna check them out. This is a pretty good, quick discussion of the revolver:1 point

A couple of things... " Oil ".... There is plenty... We know where lots of it is... Fracking made the US the largest energy produced in the world until the new regieme took over. " The future of electric vehicles "... Watch the Israelis for new battery technology... About one more iteration will make it right... Watch the European heavy truck industry and users... If they work there, it's finally feasible... Finally.... Don't believe the " we are out of resources hype "... We ain't... Electric vehicles are most likely your kid's future, not yours... All this from an old engineer crumudgeon... About 40 years in the electric power industry... That is all... Predicting leroy...1 point

No. There have been discussions about "peak oil", the point at which oil extraction peaks and begins declining for several decades. Every time we seem to be getting close to that point, there's a new find, a new technology, or something that increases either our known oil reserves or our ability to extract more from sources already identified (fracking and the extraction of oil from things like the Canadian oil sands are two such examples). As oil prices increase, the viability of extracting oil from less "easy" sources becomes economically feasible and predicted shortages don't occur. It is true that the geological processes that cause petroleum to be formed are continuous, however they're slow and certainly don't produce oil as fast as we pull it from the ground, so it's inevitable that we will someday face permanent shortages, but anybody who claims to know when that date will be is guessing at best ...1 point

I love the idea but I think it’s DOA. I hope not but I think he’s praising Kyle a little too much. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he was proven not guilty, and I do consider him a hero, but the general public has a hard time going beyond a not guilty verdict.1 point

FN is not calling it a Hi-Power, they’re calling it High Power. There is a reason for that. Curiously, High Power is FN’s original name when they first produced the thing, or “Grande Puissance”, meaning great power of you want. The history of “JMB’s last and greatest design” is maddening. I just want an SA-35!1 point

Yep. I will state, for the record, that I maintained politeness with the lady on the phone who informed me of the 6-8 week wait for the gun to be seen by a gunsmith. I did ask that she advance me to a supervisor so that I could ask for some sort of prioritization given that it was in fact brand new, straight out of the box. She sent me to someone's voicemail box and I haven't heard back yet. So, my politeness for this situation is pretty much gone at this point. Their service sucks rocks until they prove otherwise. The clock is ticking.1 point

Man, the more I read about this, the less excited for it I am. It doesn’t actually seem to be a HiPower. It just looks like one. It’s not compatible with OG HiPower magazines or any of the aftermarket upgrades on the internals. It really seems to be a wholly different gun wrapped in a vaguely HP looking shell.1 point

How much is known about the innards of this new interpretation of the traditional Hi Power? There are glaring external differences that indicate this Is a significant change in the design. I must be nuts cause I don’t like the looks all that much. All that junk hanging of the right side is awful, as is the second hole in the business end, and all those seams around the beaver tail. Hopefully, this will relieve some of the pressure on SA and those among us who like the old-timey style can get a shot at an affordable, yet improved, reproduction1 point

No offense to FN fans but FN seems to think their pistols are made of gold when it comes to their prices. Even their polymer .45ACP pistols are crazy high priced. I wanted one but got a Glock 21 at $200 less.1 point

Just had a quote to replace the fuel injectors on my wife's car, $2800. Just the fuel injectors. What do you think it would cost to replace an engine in a late model car? I had an engine replaced on a new car about ten years ago. Thankfully it was still under warranty, the bill was over $8,000. 32,000 miles on the failed motor, just under the 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty at the time. If I had driven it a few more months before failure I would have been paying that out of pocket. There is already a huge market for the used batteries. There are resourceful people starting businesses that refurb the packs by disassembling them testing the individual cells, replacing the failed or failing cells, and selling the refurbed packs to EV owners. You know sort of like engine builders who will sell you a refurb engine, take back your bad core, and refurb it for the next customer. Again the solutions for the problems EV's face will not come overnight. It is constant development. Not enough range... Battery tech, motor efficiency and control efficiency is constantly improving. Not enough charging stations.... The network is ever expanding and will continue to due so. Charging is slow... again battery tech is ever evolving, as is charging tech. Battery cost is high... Economy of scale, when the demand for them begins to approach the demand for IC engine components you will see battery cell costs plummet. Batteries are no more environmentally friendly than gasoline... I will admit this is a tough one. We have a long way to go to improve all aspects of battery production from mining of the elements to recycling of the spent cells. This alone is the biggest hurdle to continued development but we still have significant environmental issues extracting crude from the earth and refining it. Massive oil spills, spills from train wrecks, pipeline issues, a few pesky wars, and some genocide have all plagued oil production. To think that the environmental issues surrounding batteries are a deal breaker to their development/use is to wear blinders and maintain ignorance of the issues that surround oil/gas use.1 point

I just bought a new Maverick truck and paid $1100 extra to get a straight gasoline engine instead of a hybrid. I am too old to be the one experimenting with new technology. I don't even carry a smart phone, I'll just finish out what time I have left living in the past.1 point

Cool pistol. A bit of advice on posting items for sale. It is better to not put your phone number in the listing. Anyone on the web can get it. If someone is interested, they will PM you. You can then interact via PM with the person before providing your phone number if you want to make contact off-list.1 point
