I'd rather Federal put all their effort to bring us back $9.00 boxes of 9mm to Wally World.6 points

Yes and no..... At the risk of sounding like a bleeding heart liberal (most of you should know me better by this point!): For some individuals the threat of incarceration is not prohibitive. They don't care. Now the causes for that situation could be debated forever. Regardless, the way the system is setup isn't working: the threat of conviction and jail is supposed to disuade individuals from committing the crime. The punishment and/or risk involved in performing the action does not outweigh the perceived benefit. I find this argument illustrated perfectly with the debate sometimes used against the castle doctrine: you value your property over someones life. No, the individual in question values my property more than their life. If you live in a place where you might get shot trying to boost that TV, you're less likely to steal said TV. Statistic after statistic bears that out as the truth. If you live in a place where punishment for committing a crime is reduced, you see crime increase every single danged time (e.g. Chicongo, NYFC after Giuliani, San Fran, etc.) The latest salvo of DA's not prosecuting certain crimes under the guise of racism has got to be the stupidest argument yet profferred by these baffoons. Which frankly is fine with me, let them cook their own stew! I will laugh a thick hearty belly-laugh when they complain that the animals inside the cities are eating them alive. Yes, cut your police budget, that'll fix it!!! Send in the social workers!!! This trajectory is getting worse. The divisions within our society are becoming greater, and it will serve to fracture our country. Thats by design, btw.6 points

Has anyone bought one of the SAR 9 pistols? This is another Turkish made pistol and I have been curious about them. With my satisfaction withe the Canik line, I decided to order one last week from PSA. Actually, after reading the reviews, I got 2. LOL Why? Well number one was the aforementioned Canik love, and two was the reviews, followed closely by the price. With all the taxes and tics, it works out to a solid 300 each. Just a bit less than total the per item cost of the PSA Dagger. Ok, since the thread title is on the SAR 9, let's start there. First impression is that it's a big pistol. Almost exactly the size of the HK VP 9. Height and width are virtually the same, with the SAR having almost a 1/4 inch longer barrel. The SAR looks a bit like the VP9 as well I think. In fact that's what first brought it to my attention. It feels very good in my hand, maybe not quite the intuitative grasp as the VP when first handling, but very similar. Like the HK, it has the finger-groove style grip(which I like), and surprisingly to me, not enough texture to make it "grippy." I think this one might do better with some grip tape. Has a pretty deep undercut on the trigger guard, which is pretty squarish, with horizontal cuts in the front of the guard. And has a 3 position rail. The trigger is like almost all these days, with a built in safety that feels rather good to me. It's relatively flat, both the trigger and the safety, without a huge curve to it. Does have a bit of a long pull, a good quarter inch before it hits the "wall," then almost as much before it breaks. A little stiff, but not real hard. Reset is audible, and sets at just about the same point it breaks to fire( of course) but nice overall. No trigger guage, but I'm guessing about 4/5 pounds, but doesn't feel heavy to me. I said it's a big gun...27.8 oz. No G19, that's for sure. I look forward to taking it out and doing a little comparison with the Dagger and the VP9. Ought to be interesting. It comes with 2 17 round mags. AS opposed to my VP which as 15 rounders. With the exception of the paddle release of the VP9, the controls feel similar to me. The SAR has a small, ambidexterous frame mounted safety that can be converted to a decocker, and a tiny, Glock-like slide release. You definitely will want to "slingshot" the slide. Has the curently in favor combat style sight, with three large white dots, with the rear being drift adjustable. Pretty decent front and rear serrations. No slide cuts of course, as this is pretty much a base model. Strange though, since currently almost every Canik is optic ready. We shall see how it performs. I'm expecting it to be good, but it is an enty level pistol for SARSILMAZ, so nothing fancy. What would you expect for the price? So far, I'm very happy with the purchase.3 points

I've always considered the .32 acp to be highly under rated. Its a good cartridge with adequate penetration that's very easy to shoot well. Putting hits where they count is the name of the game. I think Federal and S&W blew a great opportunity here. A .32 caliber cartridge powered somewhere between the .380 and the 9mm, but with much less felt recoil would be perfect in a pocket sized gun. But NO! They had to go for a 9mm lite instead. I think that decision is gonna come back and bite 'em on the butt.3 points

I've talked with a few folks who are fairly close to the situation and KPD. They say everyone knows who and where the problems are, but our legal system makes things way too difficult to take action. And perhaps there's bigger picture things at work as well, which tend to prolong the agony in pursuit of a bigger prize.3 points

Buy yourself at least one reloading manual. Not that this group isn't well established, but taking load data without some sort of reference to check is asking for trouble. There are all kinds of powder/primer combo's you can use, but spend $20 and just read and start to peruse loadings. You will learn something and be a lot safer about it. It concerns me when anyone says I was going to try something based on a completely different round.3 points

Figured I'd check here before going new in the hopes someone has one out back not being used. Looking for a mid size saw mill (ideally capable of cutting up to 30" logs give or take.) I know it's a slim chance, but worth a shot.2 points

My grandson called me tonight and told me he and his sister went hunting today with a school mate. They harvested a squirrel and a dove. They are cleaning them and his mother is going to cook them for the kids and his friend. He said his friend goes to school with him and his father has a farm in the Charleston S Carolina area. I gave Parker a Mossberg 20 Ga pump and Chloe a Ruger10 22 rifle. Parker is 13 and his sister is 11, but very small. She can out shoot Parker. His friend could not believe the guns Parker has which I gave him and his sister. Son-in-law said the friend is eat up with hunting and fishing so it is my hope Parker and Chloe will gain a greater appreciation for the shooting and hunting thing. Their dads took them out today and spent 6 hours out with them. Parker's dad said ammo was really expensive. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT! Maybe SIL will appreciate what I gave them last year. I have another load of guns I am going to take to them next month. Giving my guns away, to my grandchildren, before I pass on.2 points

Don't go to stupid places, hang out with stupid people, or do stupid things. Someone said that and I don't remember who. Sounds pretty good to me.2 points

Quick load is your friend. Mag primers have a thicker cup and will handle more pressure. There is some debate as far as hotter or longer duration flame. It depends on who you ask sometimes. I will leave it at that.2 points

Basically, powder for a magnum cartridge is slower burning, thus more difficult to ignite. Magnum primers are supposed to be hotter to help ensure reliable ignition of such powder. I would also strongly recommend buying a reloading manual or three, and adhering to published data. The 357 Magnum is a very versatile round. You can load anything from light target loads to large game hunting loads. I would recommend using the magnum primers with powders such as 2400 and H110, and regular primers for light loads using powders like Unique, Bullseye, and the like. The 357 magnum is simply a lengthened 38 Special cartridge. Folks were hotrodding the 38 in guns like the 38-44 N frame Smith and Wessons. While these loads worked in that big, strong revolver, it proved too much for many lesser guns. The new 357 was too long for the 38s chamber, and helped prevent these hot loads being fired in weaker revolvers. The main difference in loading for this and the 9mm is crimping. An auto cartridge headspaces on the mouth of the cartridge, so you basically just remove the bell from the case mouth. Most 38 sp bullets will have a crimp groove. This cartridge headspaces on the rim, so you can roll crimp the case mouth into the crimping groove. Other than that, it’s the same…size/deprime, bell, prime, powder, bullet, crimp.2 points

This could be found in almost any major city, IMO. No one ever "sees" anything, shooting victims never "see" or know anything, etc. I feel bad for the older folks who just want peace & quiet. Sad.2 points

Alright... I am letting the Auto-Lock feature run silently to catch up on the huge backlog of old posts. I've also deleted every post made by the @TGO Staff account today. That gets rid of a lot of the noise. Once the Auto-Lock gets the backlog processed, I'll turn back on the feature that makes it reply to the thread saying when and why it was locked. Progress is hard.2 points

Since I read the forum daily, chronologically, I have not seen a problem. Not that many new ads that I can't skim to see if there is anything interested added since the day before. When I first joined I did scan down to see if something interested might still be available but now I don't need to go beyond the new posts.2 points

This is an old picture. I've added more since this was taken. 1959 Colt Commander .45acp. My EDC. CMP 1911. 1942 Colt frame with an Ithica slide. 1964 Clark Longslide. Still as accurate today as when it was made.2 points

Take a lesson from your wife - a little moisturizer goes a long way. It doesn’t need to be expensive - a $7 one from the grocery store goes a long way. Personally - at the encouragement of my dermatologist - I use one with sunscreen in the morning and one without at night (which does wonders if you’ve been out in the field all day.) I like a Neutrogena one with SPF every morning. I like a Burt’s bees one the rest of the time - unless I’ve really been out in the weather - then I go for my wife’s thick Pond’s one.2 points

The lower receiver is an Anderson AM-15. The upper receiver is a Del Ton AR15 Upper Receiver Carbine Rifle Kit. It is in fantastic working condition. Just cleaned and oiled it after taking to the range. In total, think I've run about 300 rounds through it. I put an oversized charging handle latch, put an oversized trigger guard, a magpul MOE M-Lok SL handguard and grip, and a Trinity Force Alpha Stock. Extra accessories are a magpul paraclip and magpul paraclip mount, and a magpul MOE m-lok handguard, as well as the A2 style grip and stock. I have a bag that is coming with it, a sling, an NC Star flip-up up rear sight, and the installed rear sight is a Troy Fixed Battle Sight. In addition to the magazine that comes with the gun (P-mag) there are 9 extras. 5 Magpul P-mags, a Hexmag, a Lancer mag, a metal mag, and a KCI mag. located in Clarksville, TN1 point

Great advice already. I too only use magnum primers for H110 and 2400 as Greg mentioned. I have some good .357 loads using AA#2, Unique, and Bullseye I tend to keep my 158 gr bullets at or just below 1000 fps. I also load 9mm using mag primers from time to time and just reduce the powder charge a bit. @ReeferMac As a matter of fact I'll be heading out to ORSA this week to chrono some loads. You are always welcome. IMHO a chronograph, along with a good manual, are some of the best handloading investments a person could make. Alliant, as well as most powders manufactures, offer solid handloading data on their websites. Tech support at Alliant is excellent and they've helped me work up some loads they don't even list. Good people IMO. Just PM or email me if I can be of assist. Jamie1 point

It is just to make you think, in some county's you lose a hand for stealing. Public hanging in the square would be a great way to stop crime. Yes I know we are to soft on crime, but eye for an eye would stop crime. How about a escape proof prison? All crime is a life term and no parole. Walls 200 feet high and are 100 feet thick, same walls go into the ground 100 feet. No doors, prisoners are dropped from above by crane, food as well. No guards, no need for them. Now that would stop crime.1 point

That's kinda funny Bob. I don't think she ever considered them an "investment" ..... she just received joy from collecting them. And I am glad she did. Just as I have enjoyed collecting my stuff especially with my son when he was growing up. BTW ...... you wanna buy a slew of Bobby Labonte and Darrell Waltrip NASCAR and/or Harley Davidson "collectibles"? No? Well maybe a set of Desert Storm "baseball-type" cards? To each his own.1 point

I'm small potatoes compared to some of you. The Colt 1911 was my father's. I'm 65, and I remember him bringing it home when I was 8 or so, and how heavy it was then. I keep waiting for the Mustang to grow up.1 point
