  2. Thanks for the sound advice. Although the receiver plate screw didn’t want to budge, I carefully kept at it and got it out. The link joints and associated parts were in remarkable condition, but I’m glad you suggested that precaution. I took the old girl to the indoor range just now and fired away. She shoots and cycles like a dream and grouped well, at 25 yards, anyway. Shout out to the Marine in Oneida who sold me 90 rds of 44-40 on Saturday- thank you!

  11. Just spent yesterday and today watching an online auction. They sold 700 knives, which was a portion of the old man’s estate. I bought a couple. Wish I’d have bought a few more. This fella was well known in our community. He’d had a stroke, and either communicated with hand signals or a pen and pad of paper he kept handy in his shirt pocket. No telling what the old man was worth, but you’d never know it. He was as nice a guy as you’ll ever meet, and still a kid at heart. I always fancied myself as a pretty formidable card player, but you simply could not beat this fella and his buddy at Rook. No matter who I partnered with, I can’t remember once ever even getting close to beating them. If they cheated, I never caught them, and I have a pretty good idea what to watch for. Two reasons I post this. One, these type fellas are gone, never to return. Two, collecting pocket knives isn’t nearly as dead a hobby as I thought. His family and the auctioneer will be very happy with the results. Have a great weekend and thanks for listening!

  13. Trying something new this morning with some automation to automatically lock threads. I am changing the configuration slightly, so what you see posted by the automation in a few threads isn't entirely accurate. It looks like the rules for this script are cumulative, meaning all conditions have to be true. The more conditions I add to the filter, the less likely it is to work properly. Right now, I have it set to auto-lock threads in the Trading Post forums if the author of the thread edits the first post in the thread and adds the tag "Ad Closed".

  14. Spend enough time in the woods and you will eventually endure a day when you seriously have to contemplate if you would rather be at work instead. Yesterday was one of those days. I went out on my RZR with 200 pounds of corn to set out a new pig feeder. I planned to be headed back home well before dark. I got the new feeder put together and loaded the corn into it. At this point I realized that I forgot to bring new batteries for the feeder. I had planned to go over to another feed site to retrieve my cellular camera and move it to the new feeder so I figured that I would borrow the batteries from that feeder. I rode the 3 miles over to the other feeder and grabbed my camera and borrowed the batteries from the feeder. As I'm about half way back to the new feeder I sense and hear a funny feeling/noise from the front end. Got out to check and my driver's side front wheel was being held on by a single lug nut. It seemed that the stud of the remaining nut was bent and the one next to it was broken. I robbed 2 lug nuts off of other wheels and pieced it back together. Thank goodness I had tools. I proceed on to my new feeder site and set up the camera, it's way past dark at this point. I was satisfied with the camera setup so I proceed back to the truck. While traveling a logging road going down the mountain I attempt to drive over a very large water bar that a logging crew had recently put in place and managed to high center the RZR so that neither the front or rear wheels were touching the ground. Just a slight delay, I managed to winch myself over the water bar. Once over the water bar I'm about a mile and a half from my truck, but could more than likely get my truck to where I am if I absolutely had to. Yay, that means I'll get to sleep in my bed tonight and not have to return tomorrow to retrieve this garbage machine. A half mile from the "main road" my right front wheel just locks up. I have a whole lot of "Eff it" in me at this point, as I'm frustrated with this machine, my wife is aggravated with me as I was supposed to my home an hour before and she has to leave for work. Our baby sitter had been at the house for 12ish hours and I was afraid she may be getting aggravated as well. I decided to see if I could limp it to the main road and then walk the rest of the way to my truck. I wouldn't have minded the extra half mile walk, but there is nowhere that I could get turned around with a trailer and at that point getting the RZR turned to load wasn't happening either. 1/4 mile hike to the truck, no biggie. Loading was much more difficult than I thought with a frozen up wheel. Had I not had a winch it would still be sitting there. As I'm winching the RZR onto the trailer I reach in my pocket to retrieve a shackle and feel a AA battery. What's that? Yup, forgot to put the batteries in the new feeder. 7 mile round trip back to the feeder, ain't going to happen tonight. I made it home in one piece and with all of the broken pieces of the RZR. I was never uncomfortable. I had on appropriate clothing, and had extra clothing. Worst case scenario I would have likely abandoned the RZR and walked back to my truck. My wife relented when I sent her the picture of the RZR, as she probably just assumed that I was out running around in the woods having a grand ole time. (No idea why she thinks that I would do something like that?) Babysitter was very understanding about staying late and was washing dishes when I walked in. Gave her a generous tip for her inconvenience and understanding. A few hundred dollars and I should have this machine going again. Turns out the hub broke. Not sure if that was before or after the initial lug nut issue. I've owned motorcycles, boats, and campers, but this RZR is the biggest money pit of them all. Just before I loaded up at home Finally ready to head back home

  15. Whisper, I'm a couple of counties east of you but I get to Chatt regularly. Allow me to opine my observations of driving there for work for a couple of years: Downtown Chatt is wholly unorganized, IMO. Unlike Nashville (where one can hop on an interstate in 5 min anywhere in town), one can often get REAL frustrated in finding an on-ramp to 24/75 downtown. Just crazy. While there's a few ok areas downtown (Market St area comes to mind), a LOT of it is very lower class. Not dangerous, just lower class. Rows of empty buildings all over town, which surprised me after seeing Nashville's economic boom. Sad. Downtown is helter skelter in how it's laid out/grouped. The Infinity dealership is just around the corner from a bunch of housing projects, for example. Just................... odd, IMO. Around the Erlanger area & Riverside Dr area, there's NO restaurants aside from one or two fast food places. Just weird. Sooner or later, hit Wally's Restaurant on McCallie Ave. They're like Dan's Restaurant on Lafayette St in Nashville, IMO. Good food, meat-n-three type of joint. Breakfast & lunch only though. 99% of the good eating places are going to be around Hamilton Place & Gunbarrel Road (I love that name!). Ale House Restaurant is a fav of mine. If you like cigars, Burns Cigars on Jordan Dr is the go-to place. I buy most of mine there. Good prices, excellent selection, excellent CS there. If you like beer, Hutton & Smith micro brewery is my fav. Boathouse Rotisserie on Riverside Dr is a cool place to eat. Not just seafood, steaks & stuff too. North Shore is filled with hipster shops and eating places. I only went there a time or two so I can't tell you too much about there. Nice area though, right next to the river. The only gun shop I went to was off of Hwy 153. I can't recall the name of it, sorry. Chatt lacks a lot of options on gun shops when compared to Nashville, IMO. Gun shows are at Camp Jordan, off Exit 1 I-75. Right on the TN/GA line, behind Bass Pro. Nice place for a show, free parking, all that good stuff. If you like books, there's a McKay's Used Bookstore in Ootlewah. I use them quite a bit. If you're into motorcycles, there's several dealerships on Ringgold Rd, all close together. The HD dealership is in Oolteway. I use Pandora's, FWIW. As mentioned, Chatt is full of history, most of it Civil War stuff. Pointe Park, Lookout Mtn are a must-see, IMO. I've not done Chickamauga Battlefield yet, sadly. Signal Mtn is worth a Sunday drive, cool views up there. If you use GPS, check out (I think) North & South Crest Rd. It takes you over the ridgeline instead of through the tunnel at Brainerd Rd. Incredible views, beautiful houses. Cleveland has a couple of gun shops, one on South Lee Hwy, just off of Hwy 64 Bypass. The other is on Keith St. Sorry, I can't recall their names. They're ok, nothing like The Armory, Franklin Gun Shop or The Gun Crew. But it is what it is. If you ever want to get over to the Ocoee & Hiwassee River areas, give me a shout. It's incredibly rural, beautiful & exciting for kayaking, rafting & fly fishing. The cool thing about SE TN is we have as much (or more) of the beauty & activities but without all the traffic of the Gatlinburg area. All this is about a 30-45 min drive from Chatt, so it's just down the road. Hope this helps some. My .o2

  16. Always listen to old man stories because 1: They are reliving a time they'll never get back. 2: You'll be making their day. 3: You may learn something. 4: You'll be old one day.

  17. Welcome! I don't use the mobile mode that often but I'll do so today and see what I can sort out on this. Most folks use the Prefixes feature to indicate whether their items are for sale, for trade, if they are wanting to buy something, etc. Prefixes are also automatically turned into "tags" by the software. So long as they do that, you can search by the prefix or tag and see what's available. We do ask people to edit their threads and mark the prefix as SOLD whenever they sell their items. Some folks do this. Others don't. It's kind of annoying when they don't. So long as people use the prefixes like they are supposed to, you can filter out the items that are sold. I've hesitated to implement a feature where threads get auto-deleted after a certain number of days, but maybe I need to take another look at it. Does 30-Days without a reply seem like a good number? Of course, that means that people will need to come back and re-post their items for sale after the 30-day period, if they want to keep the listing alive. But it would help keep the forum clean. I'm open to suggestions from all of the members on this subject.

  19. 210 if accuracy matters & capacity doesn't. Everything is a compromise, somehow, someway. What do you want this gun to accomplish? Tiny little groups? Shoot some matches? What? Be sure to also take a look at the H&K VP9L. It covers everything the Sig & Walther does but w/o any shortcomings. Yes, I own one. If I had to take only one pistol into a SHTF environment, this one would be it. Highest complement I can give a gun. My .o2

  24. Wife and I replaced the entry doors on our house 6 months ago and added security screen doors. This on was a "place keeper" on the front while we waited for that screen door to arrive. Once it came in we took it off and it's been leaning where it is. It measures 35 1/2W x 79"H. The hinges have integrated springs. They work. Door hasn't been painted or stained. Screens have no rips or tears. Discoration is weathering. Door was $50ish,hinges another $10 or so. Come get it, bring me a box of 9mm, 45acp, 30-06, 300blk (145gr), brick of 22lr,couple of 100 round sleeves of 22wmr, 100 rounds of 12 or 20ga shot, some slugs for same... Basically $20-3 bucks of ammo. Or just say "I need the door but don't have ammo to spare" and it's yours. I'm in Jefferson City, 7 minutes from the pilot at 417

I have 2 Big Buddy propane heaters and plenty of fuel, ran the generator last week and have plenty of gas. Looks like I'll mostly need an umbrella... You guys are some good cooks! Making me hungry looking at those pics!

  34. If Tennessee was your home of record, there’s a good chance the War Records Office at the TN National Guard on Sidco Drive has a copy. Branches are supposed to send one to them upon separation. In a different job, I used to help vets get copies there. Might be worth giving them a call to see how it works. There used to be a form you could fill out and I used to get copies in as little as a couple weeks.

  39. Mine was almost as bad as yours. Mine was confiscated as evidence when I shot a burglar. A couple of weeks later the detective released it. When I went to get it, my H&K USPC .45acp magically turned into a POS Ruger/Kel-Tec/Taurus (Can't remember which one). I pointed this out to the female property clerk, a middle aged battle axe. She literally snatched the paper out of my hands and stomped off. I responded the only way I had available: I threw the pen she gave me at her back & called her multiple vulgar names. (Keep in mind, *I* was NOT the accused, nor was the gun stolen, nor was I charged with anything.) She got the detective on the phone, told him all sorts of BS about how *I* was acting, all this out of my sight & hearing. She brought the phone to me for him to speak to me. I quickly explained the truth of the matter, about the gun being wrong & how she acted. His response: "Yeah, she's been know to act like that." They finally got it fixed, I got my USPC but then she wouldn't give me the ammo that was in the mags. "You have to come back for the ammo, we don't give you both together", she said. I wasn't going to get off work early, drive downtown, find a place to park, pay for parking & waste my time for 8rds of Federal HydroShok. Every time I used to hear about raises for Metro employees, I'd think about that witch. I hope she has a miserable retirement & her husband leaves her for a younger woman!

  43. Hold on there slick!.... Before you go putting pressure on that toggle lock, you best have a look at it. The toggle locks on those original guns were pretty hard and anywhere in its history of home loads could very well crack one of the 4 in the gun. I checked one for a guy once that like you, wanted to shoot it. The action worked OK by hand but one of the links were cracked in 2 but the crystalline surface of the crack mated so well it still toggled up and down matching the movement of it sister link on the other side of the bolt. IDK if the new Italian clones will swap locking links. Back when, I found an original link to replace the broken one. So, Yeah you can shoot it even with factory loads since they are watered down big time from the factory and I know on new Remington boxes they even print for "All" firearms chambered in 44-40. Just pop the side plates off and look the link joins over really close. If they are sound, hammer time!

  46. Zero punches pulled here by Ryan Cleckner. “As if I haven’t already made enough bold statements, here’s another: I feel so strongly that the 30 Super Carry is a bad idea that I’m going to use it as a measuring stick to see who in our industry is being paid for their opinions. Of course, people can disagree with me. However, absent a compelling counter-argument to each of my issues with this new round above, I am going to assume that anyone who calls this “ground-breaking” or the “best new self defense round” is a shill and is getting paid to pretend like they like the round. This is a problem for me – your life may depend on an opinion that you didn’t realize was a commercial. Keep an eye out for me and see if I’m right.” https://gununiversity.com/30-super-carry/?fbclid=IwAR0NuKKot3L3HAs-Rr8aoFv0b98RObYA0nuO9BiRekV96_FxTAdMnrBRnNg
