Update... The M&P is on the way back to Smith & Wesson. They should receive it Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how long this process really takes and what the ultimate outcome with be. Until I have some other news to share, let the be a warning to anyone who is considering a new S&W of any sort. Maybe buy a Glock instead.6 points

Welcome to #### I said (here!) a year and a half ago. Now that the fear porn they’ve been shoveling has become politically inconvenient, it’s all hands on deck to shift the narrative.3 points

I’m a Toolmaker and could get that screw out, but I wouldn’t do it on my own gun. If you find it cross threaded or the threads are damaged, retapping it won’t make it right. They won’t make it a different size, they will just replace it. Send it in. I have always been a S&W fanboy and still am. Somewhere in the forum is my story about a run in I had with them on a Performance Center gun over a trigger. I took it all the way to the Top of S&W. I wrote letters and mailed them to the CEO, and VP of firearms. I immediately got a call telling me to send it in, it would be fixed. It was returned to me with nothing done and I replaced the trigger with an Apex. Smith & Wesson was always the gold standard of service all others were measured by. That just isn’t true anymore. And that’s a shame for an American manufacturer. But then who does have good customer service anymore? Sure, we all have stories of what good service we got from different manufacturers. Like I did about S&W. But then something like this happens. I’ve owned over a 100 S&W handguns and had to send three in. They were all turned around within a couple of weeks. They did tell me that they shut-down for a couple of weeks during the summer and that really backs things up. So with stoppages due to the latest drama I would guess it could take awhile. I wasn’t mad about sending the gun back. I was furious that after being a loyal customer for so many years, they turned their back on me. I was also mad that I paid extra money for a “Performance Center” gun that had a POS trigger. I think they are just putting “Performance Center” on most everything now. I told them that if my gun was in the performance center it was just on a cart passing through. I know how mad you are though. Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt. Take deep breaths.3 points

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. If you screw the slide up it will be your problem. If S&W can not get it out they will put a new slide on the gun. Do it right and send it back even if you have to wait a couple of months.3 points

I have carried one for over a year. I think it's the best glock style option on the market. I recommend them to everyone and have converted some people. I wish though that Shadow Systems would just sell the 920 frame. I don't care about any of their components. I would take a completely stock g19 in an mr920 frame EVERY DAY! To me, their frame is the entire reason that they are successful.2 points

No it isn't. Tokarev is 7.62 x 25. 30x19 in foreign would be 7.62x19. Which doesn't exist.2 points

Nope, the tap will just bottom out. In my career as a mechanic I dealt with lots of broken bolts and screws. Screws that small are a royal PITA. Just the tiniest miss step will ruin the piece. Such jobs take a whole lot time and an ungodly amount of patience. I could probably do it, but I've had many years of practice. An amateur shouldn't even try. Let S&W deal with it. More than likely they won't even try to fix it. Too time consuming. They'll just scrap the slide and put on another. Like I said, see if you can just send in your slide and swap for a new one. That would be the quickest way.2 points

7.62 x 25???? It clearly says 30x19 on the slide..... Methinks tomfoolery is afoot.2 points

This is my new Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 Optics Ready handgun. I ordered it right after Christmas and picked it up on Thursday, January 7th, 2022. Any day that you get a new firearm is a good day! Or so we've always thought. The trigger on the new model is honestly pretty great. It resolves many of the gripes that people have had about the M&P trigger in the past. They have done away with the hinged design and moved to a flat-faced polymer trigger with an integral safety "blade" much like a Glock has. I supposed that Glock's patent on this has expired since everyone else is producing clones of the Glock based on the Gen 3 and Gen 4 designs. So, it was nice to see that Smith & Wesson has done away with the goofy hinged trigger. Trigger reset is pretty good, also. It still is not quite as crisp and snappy as that of a Glock but, honestly, I don't get wrapped around the axle about trigger reset. As long as it's there and does its job, that is what matters. If you are shooting the gun in a class setting or, God forbid, in an active situation where someone's life is on the line, you really aren't going to notice the tactile reset anyway. Just my opinion, perhaps, but I obsess over minutia and cannot find a single recorded case of a police officer or other stating that they remember how the trigger reset felt in that kind of situation. Most folks don't even accurately remember how many rounds they fired, so expecting them to wax poetically about how the trigger felt under stress is just stupid. But I digress. The point of this post is not to write a love poem about triggers. No, the point is darker and less happy than that. This is my brand-new M&P a few seconds after I attempted to remove the Allen screws that hold the factory polymer blanking plate from the optics cradle on the slide. As you can see, the screw on the ejection-port side of the slide has stripped completely out. This was with moderate torque and using a quality Wiha-brand Allen key to remove it. The screw felt as if it were either coated with thread-locking compound or, worse, cross threaded and then driven home by some ape at the Smith & Wesson assembly line. I was furious. Immensely so. But not as furious as I was after calling Smith & Wesson and asking them how I could return it to them for some help. This is my reaction after calling Smith & Wesson and learning that they would require SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS to service it. You read that right. It will ship this back to them via FedEx 2-Day Air after which time it will take approximately two months for it to sit in their service queue, after which time they will look at it, do something about the problem, and then return it to me. And hopefully in the condition it should have been from the beginning. I understand that manufacturing problems happen, but service after the sale is where the rubber really meets the road and Smith & Wesson need to step up their game. I would recommend that they start by reducing the wait time for service. A target of 1-2 weeks round-trip seems like a reasonable target to me. This isn't a $600 television or some other consumer good that could be returned to the store where it was purchased for an exchange or a refund. The only option is to send it back to the manufacturer and, ideally, receive it back quickly with all problems resolved. I am lucky. I have other guns to carry. But can you imagine being someone who doesn't have those options and who can't afford to roll the dice on a $600 gamble that their new gun is going to function properly? That person would be screwed. Anyway, being mechanically inclined I asked Smith & Wesson if I could have a local gunsmith remove the screw, or do it myself, without voiding the warranty. They said YES! So, off I went in search of an appropriately small screw extractor. A few harrowing moments later, the screw was successfully removed! Success!!! Rejoicing!!! But... not so fast. This is my brand-new M&P with the new screw sheared off into the slide. Yep. As I began to thread it into the slide, using barely any torque or force at all, it met resistance. I stopped immediately and began to slowly reverse direction. And it snapped. Right where the head of the screw met the slide. I am not sure how I resisted the urge to just throw the whole damned thing through the nearest wall but, somehow, I did. I suppose it was the rapidly shrinking rational portion of my brain that somehow managed to squeak out the thought, "Hey... don't throw it through the wall. If you do that, you can't return it to the factory." Actually, my response was one of complete numbness. Disbelief. It short-circuited my brain. I could only stare at it in silent rage. So, all of this being said, I am very confident that the original screw was cross threaded during initial assembly at Smith & Wesson This is now their problem to fix. I am returning the whole gun to them and suppose that I might see it sometime in March or April. And that thought infuriates me like no other. Would I recommend an M&P to anyone at this point? Not on your life. Check back with me in two months and I'll let you know if my opinion has changed any. History of Updates 1. January 12, 2022 -- Smith & Wesson received the gun for repair. 2. January 18, 2022 -- Smith & Wesson emailed to provide an RMA case number. 3. January 24, 2022 -- Officially one week since the gun was logged into the RMA system. Twelve Days since it arrived at S&W. No news. No updates. 4. February 15, 2022 -- Officially four weeks have elapsed. I called today and checked on things. They hope to be working on it within the next two weeks. 5. February 17, 2022 -- Completely by surprise, S&W sent me a FedEx tracking number today showing that my M&P is coming home. No idea what they've done to it. Stay tuned! 6. February 21, 2022 -- It's back home! They replaced the slide and all seems to be well. They undercut their return-time estimate by a full three weeks.1 point

Hello, name is Cody! I’ve lived in TN on and off (Army) for a combined 11 years. I’m an avid hunter. Whitetail deer and black bears get me fired up, but I’m happy to chase just about anything. I’m also an avid firearms collector, with .35 caliber rifles and lever actions being my focus. My absolute favorite cartridge is the .35 Whelen. I carry one into the field on every big game hunt I go on, and buy just about every bolt, pump, semi, lever, and high end single shot .35 Whelen I can find. Thanks for having me. I look forward to talking and conducting business with everyone here! Cody1 point

Happy New Year, TGOers! Picked up this rifle from a TGO member a couple years ago and just don't shoot it as much as it deserves. Well assembled, nice magpul furniture, great Hogue pistol grip, and tight side mounted top rail. None of the usual suspects as far as WASR problems. Straight sights that put me dead center at 100yds. Plenty of magazines included as well as 300-400 rds of Wolf steel if interested. Couple nicks here and there but that's what makes an AK an AK . No hiccups through several hundred rounds of mixed ammo. No trades at this time. Cash only. Face to face. HCP flash required.1 point

What he said, cost and variety, mostly variety. Cost is marginal with the extra work involved starting with seeds, though perhaps there is some extra satisfaction. We've had good luck with a seed biodome.... https://parkseed.com/park-bio-dome-seed-starter/c/bio-dome/1 point

I sympathize with your frustration. Drives me nuts when something that should be so simple becomes a herculean task. I am anxious to get the new M&P 10mm but hearing some negative reports about the gun and S&W's replies to the consumers has me holding off. I hope I can get back to where I have confidence in the products S&W turns out as well as responsive customer service from them. I don't see me getting to that point any time soon.1 point

Just had to gig you a bit on this. lol. I love my Shield Plus, have a Smith that you and Nate both touched and moded a bit, and your (first) P10c. Considered buying a CSX yesterday, but still waiting on a SA35. lol I guess I'm just fawning over your choices a bit. I've found that my limited knowledge has been enhanced through the 2 of you. Back on point, ALL manufacturers sometimes have problems, and sadly you encountered a doozy. I've had to use Smith's warranty 2 times in the last 15 years. Both problems were resolved within 2 weeks for me. However, times have changed and people as well. GOOD quality is expected, but not always found at the purchaser's choice. Well, the gist of this rambling missive is just to say I feel for your pain, and hope it gets back to you quickly.1 point

My Walther PDP still holds the position of my regular EDC. I honestly don't know why I bother picking up other handguns at this point. Variety is the spice of life, I guess.1 point

If it is t thru hole it can be drilled from the backside. A lot of times it will push the broken screw out when the drill starts to bite.1 point

I agree with the left-hand drill bit. The screw is most likely too small for using an ez-out of any type? Applying some heat to the slide is out because it would ruin the finish, IMO. Most likely S&W will trash it & just send you a new slide asy. Please allow me to say this wouldn't have happened had you purchased an H&K.......................1 point

I would be inclined to extract the screw and re tap the threads since I might have the correct tools to do it. But I shouldn't and shouldn't have to. When one buys a firearm we should expect top quality components and workmanship. Especially from a manufacturer like S&W. Sorry for your frustration. Send it back and complain loudly and daily. This kind of issue is completely unacceptable in my eyes. they should just send a new slide.1 point

I think any time I spend trying to find a machinist to take a swing at this locally would just add time to the delay of getting it back from Smith & Wesson. The 6-8 weeks part is what I find totally unsatisfactory.1 point

This sounds like an amazing idea. As a final word on the matter: @DispositionMatrixnobody (especially me) is buying your attempts to deny that you were doing exactly what you did here. Some of us have been on the internet since before the World Wide Web was even an actual thing. We’ve had enough experience with a specific type of online behavior to recognize it when we see it. If it looks, walks, and quacks like a duck then it’s a most certainly a damn duck. You're on thin ice. My tolerance for this kind of scatological material of a bovine origin is very low. Before I was married, I started flirting with a young lady that had a boyfriend. I didn't know she had a boyfriend because she didn't tell me. She did tell her boyfriend. He walked up to me an asked me if I was flirting with his girlfriend in a very casual way. I told him I didn't realize she was dating someone, I apologized, and told him it wouldn't happen again. We shook hands and went or separated ways because we are adults.1 point
