  1. Yet another reason why I only buy and sell on TGO. We aren't perfect, but we know how to take out the trash.

  2. This is Shadow, we got him from friends who unexpectedly had puppies. I call him the galloping goober.

  3. Meet Boo, our German Shepherd. Acquired her from a foster family, she's about 3 years old. Her previous life was at best, neglected. I no longer need an alarm clock, guaranteed wake up nudge no later than 630a for bathroom and breakfast.

  4. I felt the same way after I lost my big yellow lab 3 and half years ago, I felt so much grief and pain. I told my wife I couldn’t do it again. But my wife couldn’t live without a dog in the house. So we adopted a puppy from animal rescue, she has brought us great joy especially these last couple years.

  6. I agree, it's very hard to bury a best friend so I found out about getting them cremated and the last 2 I lost I have cremated and they are still with me on top of my TV console in urns. I can thank many people here for being able to have Kasey cremated because at the time I could not afford to get it done and many folks here stepped up and helped me. I had Kasey almost 18 years. Then I was not sure I wanted another one and this one found me and her name was Darbby and I became very attached to her quick and had her about 5 years and she had health issues when I got her and finally she developed Kidney Failure and I had her put down and this time I was financially able to have her cremated so she is on the TV Console next to Kasey. If there comes a time for Rosie She will be up there on the TV Console also.

  7. My daughter got me this for Christmas. Kinda cool gimmick they are using to sell their bourbon. I do like the bottle.

  8. Yup. My last two just about killed me when I buried them. I just don't know if I can go through that again. Irks me that elephants live 60-70 years but dogs are all well under 20. Mother Nature sure screwed that deal up badly, IMO.

  9. I really enjoy mine. Tikka CTR's have excellent factory barrels, triggers and smooth actions.

  11. I have a good friend that's a game warden. I'm fully aware of what they'll do. We get in lots of arguments. Open field doctrine needs to go in front of the Supreme Court.

  16. This is Ginger. 17 pounds of pure badass (in her mind). She's a rescue and the best dog I've ever had.

  17. This is Katy. She showed up uninvited about six weeks ago, skinny and afraid to be touched. She's proven to be a sweet, gentle, but worthless hound, and I guess she's adopted us and has moved in permanently. She doesn't like to pose for photos, though.

  18. This is one of those situations that you need to avoid at all costs. If we have learned anything from the last few high-profile cases, there are people sitting on juries who will blame a defendant for ANY aggression whatsoever. Luckily, most (not all) of these cases have not resulted in convictions, but all you have to do is listen to any media reports to know there is a segment of the population who will say "guilty" if the defendant was aggressive (or had a weapon) at all. If you have the ability to decide whether or not to get into the situation, always choose NOT to get involved in that situation unless absolutely necessary. Obviously, we don't know the whole story in this case, but driving to confront someone is increasingly going to put you in jeopardy. Not to mention this guy could easily have lost his life had the gun been loaded. In that case, would the girl have had a "defense of others" claim? Depending on the facts, she might. There lies the problem. When a situation goes to a mutual combat type of situation, it becomes very difficult to figure out who was defending and who was attacking. Juries get to decide on those. Choose wisely.

  19. There always seems to be a common denominator in such heated situations. Two guys being played by the object of dispute. There are plenty of fish in the sea. No need lose your mind, and life, over a temporary “relationship”.

  21. I recently bought a lot of mixed brass from one of the TGO members, and among it are a few calibers that I don't shoot. Free if you want it. I live in Hebbertsburg, but go to Crossville and Lake Tansi frequently. I'll drop it in the mail, too, on your dime. 150-ish- 40 S&W wet-tumbled. 88-ish 7.62x39 wet-tumbled 80-ish 300 Blackout cases (see below) likely formed from 5.56 Lake City Brass, wet tumbled. 39- 44-40, unprocessed but pretty clean 20- 44 SPL unprocessed but pretty clean 15- 32 Win wet-tumbled. I don't remember this ever happening before, but it would seem I have made an.... error... I identified those 7.62 x 39 cases visually, just looking at the head stamp on a couple. I guess I just got unlucky in looking at those couple, as there were only four or so cases. The others look similar at a glance, but they are different. I don't see a caliber marking on the cases. Can any of you very knowledgeable folks identify them. They're shorter than the 7.62 x 39, and have as slightly narrower mouth. SORRY!

  27. Believe me when I say I totally understand the need to have a dog in your life. I have had a dog or dogs in my life since I was 6 years old and a house to me is not complete without at least 1 or more in the house. Back when I was a kid I had as many as 4 or more at the same time and I would work doing odd jobs for folks to buy their food. That was my fathers only rule even though many times he would have to kick in a little, as long as I tried it was ok for me to have them....lol.

  28. That's kinda like saying the police can search you car or house whenever they want because....you know..."you've got nothing to hide ". I get what you're saying, but they didn't tell anyone about the tracking part. Everyone could see it coming at some point. It's kind of like putting government controled tracking on all new guns.

  31. Over the year plus of challenging events driving home more of a live now perspective, The holiday celebrations had us dip into a stash of our final few remaining bottles purchased prior to the whiskey market explosion which have driven these to become nearly unobtainable. The last time I had opened one was probably 5 or 6 years ago. George T Stagg barrel proof bourbon. I am happy we did, it was great to get reacquainted with George Opened up nicely with a little water to bring out flavors and put the heat onto the back burner. Slightly scorched caramel and cinnamon dominate on entry really made it a great follow to pumpkin pie. The oak is there but in relative moderation compared to the other flavors. One of my favorites as the citrus and cherry profiles are tamed to subtle proportion in the complex mix of flavors that carry on thru the middle. I am reminded why we always had a few of these around. I doubt it will ever be like the good ole days when grabbing a couple bottles wasn't a problem with at least a case of it on the shelf at the Total Wine at a mere $79 each. But hopefully improves quite a bit before our last one is gone.

  32. Often, we don't get that option. Despite some of the movies and TV shows that act like jury selection is totally in the hands of the attorneys, that is not reality. In my last jury trial (employment case), the judge refused to excuse a potential juror who broke down crying when certain questions in jury selection triggered her memory of a similar situation that happened to her. She had an obvious bias and the judge would not strike her. We were left with using one of our 3 strikes without cause. In this day and age, I don't think 3 strikes without cause can get all the potential juror problems resolved (even assuming you can predict which individuals will be a problem). My purpose for bringing any of this up is to emphasize that letting a DA, judge, or jury decide your fate is a VERY risky proposition. And with society seeming to be more polarized by the day (and most seem to be driven only by headlines and 120 character tweets), it is questionable how many jurors will even attempt to understand the nuance of the self-defense law. I sincerely worry that jurors are making decisions based on pure emotion more and more every day.

  33. Dad fixed his nearly world famous shrimp and grits. His recipe is unique. I really like shrimp and grits and try it when restaurants offer it, but I've never had it like he makes it. He added scallops to it because my older boy loves them.

  34. If I owned that & carried it, I'd feel obligated to go around saying, "Just the facts, ma'am, just the facts." LOL! For those whom may not know, these guns are capable of surprising accuracy. Twin, if you'll give me the model dash # (if any) or IM me the S/N, I can get you pretty close to born-on year.

  35. Don't think about it & just go get one! With the proper ammo, the 10mm is a wonderful self-defense ammo. Car doors, steel entry doors, windshields, etc. the 10mm scoffs at such nonsense (again, with the proper ammo). Recoil feels pretty close to .357mag, IMO. But instead of 125gr bullet, it'll have a 165 or 180gr bullet. That's a nice jump in energy, IMO. Accuracy has been all over the place for me in my personal 10mm's. My Glock 30SF & 29, my Tangfolio all had average accuracy at best. Then I went to the 1911s in 10mm & WOW, did that change! STI & Nighthawk both perform exactly as one would think with that quality, so no surprise there. What did surprise me were my Rock Islands in 10mm. I have their Commander & 2011 models. Both are well above the Glocks but a good notch below the STI & Nighthawk. Of course, they cost a whole lot less than those brands too. Had the XDM Elite been available when I was stocking up on 10mm's, it may well have been in my Top 3. Beautiful looking gun, IMO.

  37. This is Rosie and I have the same problem as a couple others when it comes to sleeping in late. In the morning she lets me know she is up and I should be up too. She starts howling like a hound on a treed Coon and won't stop till I'm up. She is a full blooded Basset Hound and I got her from a Breeder that had her fixed and wanted to rehome her. I enjoy listening to a hound bay and yodel, just not at 6AM.....lol

  42. December 22, 2021 -- Well, another year is rapidly drawing to a close and another is now visible on the horizon. It seems hard to believe that we are here once again, and yet I am sure I say that every year. As I sit here writing this, my house is full of the sound of family enjoying the week of Christmas. My three youngest children are sitting at the kitchen table, decorating cookies with their mom and aunt. Christmas movies are playing on the television across the room just beyond the Christmas tree, but no one is really watching them. They are playing mostly to add their music and sounds to the atmosphere, and in case someone happens to look up so that more scenes of Christmas will fill their view. It is not lost on me that I am beyond fortunate to have this scene playing out in my house tonight. My two oldest kids, separated from this bunch by a legitimate 18-years, are grown and long since moved out. By any account, I should be in the empty nest phase of life, but God saw fit to keep me in the game a bit longer. I am forever in His debt for it. Some of you can undoubtedly relate to the notion of a quieter and calmer home this Christmas. Some of you will be lucky to see brief glimpses of your homes this Christmas in between hours spent away at work. Some of you will be reading this from some location elsewhere on this planet, quite possibly in a place that our government has put you to do a job that you can't even talk about. Wherever Christmas and the New Year find you, I hope that you will find some comfort in this statement: You may be solitary, but you are not alone. We, here at TGO, are with you. And you may be busy serving in some other capacity, but you aren't forgotten. I am thinking of you and I know that others on TGO will be joining me in that. I hope that each of you enjoy Christmas in the best way possible. I hope that you find peace, relaxation, restoration and hope in it. And if you can't... drop me a line and let me know. I am glad to lend a virtual ear to you and it would be my honor to tell you that you really aren't alone. Merry Christmas, folks. Thanks for making TGO the best place on the Internet to talk about everything under the sun. And sometimes about guns. --David

  43. I have ridden bicycles regularly since 1976. I still have to not overeat to keep weight off though. During the pandemic when everything was shutdown I rode more and ate out less. Went for my annual checkup and the Dr. noticed I had lost 14 pounds since the year before. I told him it was due to Covid. He said "I didn't know you have Covid". I told him I didn't but since I couldn't go anywhere (especially restaurants) I rode more miles than ever so the weigh came off. I rode 7,400 miles in 2020. My usual goal for a year is 6,000 miles.

  44. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Unless it is a structured setting like a professional match or even a martial arts class setting, there are zero winners when grown men fight. It’s always a losing proposition for everyone.

  45. Got lucky this year, two eight point bucks, one on opening rifle and one on the 15th. Both went to friends that don't hunt, now I am looking for a doe for me, and maybe another for one that went all summer sausage on the first one, if I get my doe.
