  1. 40-50 years ago? Hell, they likely wouldn't have been charged had it not been on video. Cops didn't do anything until it went viral and people got outraged.

  3. I probably should have said prosecutors in my last post. You're former law enforcement. Two bubba's chased and then pulled a gun on an unarmed black dude jogging in their neighborhood. What would you have done had you been the responding officer? I believe their claim was that he tried to wrestle their gun away. That doesn't even matter if they didn't have grounds to pull a gun on him to begin with. You know the initial prosecutor on the case has been charged with a few crimes related to this right? She's accused of protecting the shooters. So yeah, I'm fairly confident these guys would have never gone to prison had this not been caught on camera and I'm sure race played a role here.

  4. And a jury with 11 white people convicted them for murder. They may not have even been charged 40 or 50 years ago. Things are by no means fixed, but are a lot better than they were in the past.

  5. All I know is there are three guys in Georgia who just got convicted of murder while having illusions of being “good samaritans” when they should have minded their business and called the cops. I am not law enforcement. Living in Memphis has taught me to mind my own business. I’ll leave the hero stuff to the cops and people wishing to be killed, jailed and/or financially ruined. I’m middle aged, and don’t want to ruin my comfortable life playing Charles Bronson.

  7. Here’s a short video from last weekend. Me and a few guys went out to call for the morning. @Luke E. brought his camera and tripod. This coyote came out directly down wind of Luke and I. Luckily he had the decoy activated on the call and we acted quickly. I don’t believe that coyote would have stood there but a second or two more being downwind but we made it work. At the end of the video when he said “Hey” I thought he saw another one and I was getting ready to pop another one if it came out. Had no idea he was gonna pick on my visor

  8. Hey y’all, let’s remember to keep the focus how the legal tactic of this Texas law may be used against gun owners and not get lost in the weeds debating abortion itself.

  10. There are simply too many variables to consider before injecting oneself into a potentially deadly situation. What if the guy swinging the machete is a store clerk defending himself against a flash mob? You just walked up and placed yourself in a position of potentially killing an innocent person defending himself. This thread is about changing times and mindsets. A lot of people better start thinking about what Ken said in the video. Good intentions may cost you your life or your freedom.

  11. That shouldn't even matter. At that point Aubrey was defending himself because they had no justification for pulling a gun on him. If I go jogging and two guys pull a gun on me I'm probably going to try to defend myself.

  12. Yep, one of defendants used to work with her and she recused herself a little late. Got herself voted out of office as a result. Not cool, but not sure how race was a factor.

  18. Figured I'd take a break on the deer hunting and take a fishing trip yesterday morning. The bite was slow dragging baits but still ended up with 7 fish in the boat by 1pm. Most the fish was eater size in the 8-12lb range but did put a 60lb and a 35lb in the boat. My buddy caught the 35lb drifting a couple rods a few feet off the bottom in the front of the boat and I was dragging two rods out the back with my dragging setup. The bait used was crappie heads and skipjack. Here's a couple pics of the 60, both the 60 and 35 was released to be caught another day. Took pics of the 35 my buddy caught but turns out the sun was right in his eyes and did not make for a good facial expression. Didn't catch it till going through the pics after we turned it back. Can't beat a big fish trip after a two month dry spell of no catfishing.

  19. Stevens Christmas. I have a Stevens Little Scout hanging on my wall that an old gunsmith gave me when I was about 10. No firing pin and the bore is very rusty but the outside has been cosmetically restored so it looks nice above one of our doors. Just think I could have bought a new one for $2.25 back when this ad was printed.

  20. My side gig is repairing/restoring vintage watches, primarily automatics, with a few excursions into quartz watches. The G-Shocks are great, reliable watches with a real hardcore following. This is a photo of an early 1980’s Heuer diver before Heuer, a watch company dating back to the late 1800’s, was acquired by Tag and rebranded/marketed worldwide as Tag Heuer

  22. I despise smart watches. I wear a watch as a timepiece, not another electronic device. I’ve considered a G-Shock more than once, but I can’t seem to get away from my Citizens and Bulovas. Though this thread inspired me to look and I think I might’ve actually found one I that’s perfect for me. https://www.jared.com/casio-gshock-gsteel-mens-watch-gstb100d1a/p/V-321119707

  23. Well folks, I already know that I'll miss-out on Apple Pay from my watch as well as unlocking my Mac and compatible programs (such as a a password manager). If I go a few weeks and miss it I will probably upgrade to the Series 7. For now, I'm really, really looking forward to getting this new G-Shock.

  24. The precedent this case sets - regardless of your feelings about abortion - harms the court and the country. Gun rights won’t be the last controversial topic in which this ruling will be used as support. The justices know that, too. So maybe look at it like this. Five justices knew good and well this would be applied to gun rights (because if nothing else Roberts explicitly told them so in his dissent) and willingly went ahead and offered those rights up anyway. They were sent up there to do a job and took the first opportunity they got to do it. But, because they swung at this case - it’ll have ramifications that spread far beyond abortion.

  25. I've got to be in Texas this weekend, but Christmas weekend we are going to one farm. The next weekend we are heading to a second farm. I've got to get the license, boundaries, and structure stuff done. One land owner wants to be involved. That's understandable and a lot more work, but it is kinda fun. We put them on bolt guns with thermals. I really want a thermal drone, but....$$$$$$

  27. I still have no idea why this problem cropped up now, but seating the bullets a couple of thousandths deeper cured the problem. I guess I’ll never know, but now I’m good to go anyway. Thanks for all the suggestions and help!

  28. I have to go along with the long round. I had that happen with a rechambered 40X Remington. The bullets was seated out. Bullet wedged into lands. Presto, stuck bullet. I also suggest loading by the rifle for COL. Going by the manual for charges us right. Load for COL may leave you with a stuck bullet. On the other hand being seated too deep makes, functionally a long throat. I have been shooting high powered rifles for many years. I have never see a carbon ring-period. I don't look at the net much.

  32. I have shot a Pedersoli "Billy Dixon" Sharps in 45-90. in local matches. The Pedersoli Sharps is building a reputation for first class performance. Mine came second hand and was is in excellent condition. Some of the Pedersoli's have no bells and whistles. I shoot with guys who have these guns and are very satisfied. We are not long range people people but ordinary shooters. I'd suggest doing some homework on what works. It's possible to spend a bunch of money upfront that is unnecessary. Buffalo Arms 's catalog and website is a good reference. My other Sharps is a C.Sharps Long range hunting and target rifle in 45-110. Mostly, I shoot the Pedersoli. My experience with Trap Door's has been good. My last Trapdoor had a groove diameter of .462, Go figure. I'd suggest doing some shopping before spending money with Dixie Gun Works. Also, if considering a Sharps for hunting pay attention to weight and length of the guns.

  33. With the Wraith 4K, due to the design of the mount ... With the mount as far back as it'll go on the upper, the extreme rear of the scope is 1/2" in front of the castle nut. (ETA: On an AR) This is w/o the rubber eye cup attached. In comparison, most of my regular scopes are set +/-1/2" behind the castle nut. I haven't mounted it to a traditional styled rifle. But IMHO, this is an oversight and a design flaw. The setup works ... but I don't like it being that far forward. YMMV

  34. I know this is CA, I know gun grabbers use no logic what so ever. But HOW in the wide, wide world of sports is a mfgr or retailer responsible for someone using a legally purchased firearm for illegal purposes? Are car mfgrs responsible for DUI's? Are beer & liquor mfgrs responsible for DUI's? Is Little Debbie responsible for obesity? I have no doubt that if in front of a CA jury (or judge, for that matter) a gun mfgr doesn't stand a chance on the legal merits alone. It's all about the "feelz" of the CA libtards. Nor is the 9th District Court of Appeals going to side on the legal & logical side of things. (The 9th is also THE most overturned appeals court in the US as well.) I also fail to see how a CA court is going to have jurisdiction over a gun mfgr located in another state? Newsome rails against "assault weapons", which have been outlawed in CA for years now. Yes, I know this is political posturing on Newsome's part in order to deflect his handling of CA's crashing economy. I note no where in the news story did Newsome provide a single detail on how mfgrs & retailers are responsible once the firearm is sold. Talk about a clown world! This is simply mind boggling to me.

  36. It ain't about constitutional rights. Its about opening the door for individuals to sue gun makers. Isn't there already a federal law against that? Anyway, anybody can sue anybody over anything. This just opens the door real wide. My guess is it won't pass Constitutional muster. But ya never know. If it passes, I'm guessing the gun makers will just quit doing business in California. That should be interesting.

  37. I read the story on Brietbardt and still have the same opinion I have alway's had- Abortion is not a right under the Constitution but firearm ownership is- In my mind the Constitution takes the win-all arguments aside and no matter how they try to argue or verify it abortion is not a Constitutional right- No matter how Newson tries to frame it one is right guaranteed by the Constitution and the other is not- So trying to frame gun control is not the same-

  38. In a discussion elsewhere regarding this subject a friend of mine posed this question: “So things have devolved to where politicians aren't even trying to justify their bad laws with anything more than "the other team passed a law our team didn't like, so we're gonna pass one they won't like for revenge"?” Sadly the answer is “yes.”

  39. Can't say for sure, but I think the OP may be looking for a used one for sale locally. All I can say is good luck with that. The Super is an oddball cartridge these days. Not near as popular as it once was. It was very popular with competition shooters for a long time. But with the coming of 9mm Major ammo it pretty much died off. Yet it does have a small, but almost cultish following. Owners rarely sell. I like the cartridge and have 4 of them. Nope, they ain't for sale. My suggestion to the OP is to either order a new one on line or search the auction sites.

  40. I have one of the ATN models. It's a couple of years old and I know they have a newer version now. I've taken several yotes with it and it's good out to about 125-150 yards. I have mine mounted to a 20" AR .223 and it's dropped all of them with one shot. I like that it can be used in the daytime as well. The big con for mine is that it's heavy. I think the newer ones are lighter. It uses 4AA batteries and I purchased the Kental rechargeables and they work nice. You just need to keep them charged. I don't keep the batteries connected when not in use and that seems to work better. I keep the battery cover loose. I also purchased a separate IR light off amazon that is mounted to the gun and has a pressure switch. I think it was about $30 and really lights up the area.

  41. I don't have much experience with the lower end stuff. I've spent 100s of hours behind NV and thermal. I currently run an N-vision NOX on a 308 mostly. If I'm in an area with a higher human density, I'll sometimes drop back to a 5.56. If you've never hunted at night there are a few things to consider. Animals behave quite a bit different at night in regard to humans. You're tactics for day hunting can be used at night, but a coyote may not run away just because it sees you. Quite often it will come in to investigate you. I will circle down wind. I've watched one Stay within 30 yards of my partner and keeping pace the entire time. They can see the red glow from the ir light if it's in the 850 nm range. If it's never been hunted, it's probably not an issue. Some dogs look just like coyotes in a thermal. I always ask the coyote if it's a dog if I'm in an area with dogs. If I have any doubt, I'll literally say " hay dog ". If it's a dog, it will go nuts and start barking. A coyote will never make a sound, but it will watch you intently. In Tennessee you can "hunt" coyotes at night....yet. You do have every right to protect yourself, your animals, and your property from coyotes if they are attacking. If I was hunting in Texas, South Carolina, ect.. this is what I'd do. 1: get a game camera and find out when it's coming it. 2: make sure it has a reason to be in front of the camera 3: be ready at the time the camera indicates activity. A 2nd opinion would be a game call. I've used electronics, mouth calls, and my voice. I called a coyote just to get it's attention while my partner got into position. His shooting vector was too close in line with a structure. Afterwards I turned around just to have one 20 yards behind me sneaking up on me. A 3rd option would be to find some good trappers in the area. I don't trap, but it could be an issue with your dogs. Good luck.

  42. It came down Yesterday in Nashville. Why? The people that wanted it gone, still won't be happy. They'll never be satisfied and happy. If you're gonna take some down, take them all down. It's history, and history is not always flowers and butterflies.

  43. And did you then cycle the cartridge successfully? The only reason the bullet would remain behind is that it was pushed into the lands, and the tension of the lands was great enough to overcome the tension of the mouth of the case. The rule I follow is that the OAL of the cartridge should be no greater than the bullet just touching the lands, and usually a couple of thousands less. You can test this pretty easily by loading a dummy round (no powder or primer and no crimp) and "painting" a bullet with a felt pen. Leave it a bit long, chamber it into your rifle so that the bullet is pushed into the case. If the bullet is left behind then the case will have marked the deepest penetration of the bullet by scratching the felt pen marking you made. If the bullet comes out with the cartridge then you can measure directly. You just need to seat a couple thou deeper into the case and maybe crimp a little tighter. And case necks do become thinner over the course of many reloads. The hotter the load, the more the case may stretch. But it's been my experience that the neck will split when it becomes brittle from over-work. I don't think you'd ever reach a point where the neck became too thin to hold the bullet, more likely the brass would split at the neck first.
