All I know is there are three guys in Georgia who just got convicted of murder while having illusions of being “good samaritans” when they should have minded their business and called the cops. I am not law enforcement. Living in Memphis has taught me to mind my own business. I’ll leave the hero stuff to the cops and people wishing to be killed, jailed and/or financially ruined. I’m middle aged, and don’t want to ruin my comfortable life playing Charles Bronson.3 points

I consider myself firmly pro-life. Actually, I consider myself pro whole life - which puts me at odds with just about every mainline political group. The hardliners are going to get what they want by what more or less amounts to a trick. Roberts warned about this in his dissent. Of course they knew this was going to happen in states like California. But they don’t care - this is their god.3 points

In a discussion elsewhere regarding this subject a friend of mine posed this question: “So things have devolved to where politicians aren't even trying to justify their bad laws with anything more than "the other team passed a law our team didn't like, so we're gonna pass one they won't like for revenge"?” Sadly the answer is “yes.”3 points

I work at Malibu boats. Started out as an engine setter on the rigging line 6 years ago. I'm a team lead over Assembly 1 now, but can do any breakdown on the line, plumbing the boat, wiring harness, dash install, etc. On my "off" time I run my own tree service. We do a lot of danger close trees to houses and other valuables.3 points

I fail to see how this thread brings any value to this community. What does it do for the whole of the community for one group to point at another and tell them they suck? Memphis doesn’t need me to defend it - and I’m sure our members who live there are fine with the rest of y’all staying home. But, I just don’t get it.3 points

could easily get you locked away forever if you fit a certain demonized stereotype. For some this may feel like the new reality (Ken mentioned the white male and the police), but imagine a lifetime of feeling like this on a daily basis. Sucks a** doesn’t it? You just have to suck it up. Life goes on. I do agree that avoidance is always the answer. To a scared witness/bystander, you may be the only person they see with a weapon. I don’t want to be that guy. I also no longer plan to be a good eyewitness. My priority is my safety and the the safety of my family. The cops will get whatever information I gather while leaving the area.2 points

Thanks. I was active in a manner that I felt was maybe appearing a bit too biased so I didn’t lock it myself.2 points

Newsom Calls for Gun Legislation Modeled on the Texas Abortion Law Gov. Gavin Newsom of California accused Texas of insulating its abortion law from the courts, and then called on lawmakers to use a similar strategy to go after the gun industry. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/12/us/politics/newsom-texas-abortion-law-guns.html1 point

That would work if guns didn’t still cross their borders.1 point

It ain't about constitutional rights. Its about opening the door for individuals to sue gun makers. Isn't there already a federal law against that? Anyway, anybody can sue anybody over anything. This just opens the door real wide. My guess is it won't pass Constitutional muster. But ya never know. If it passes, I'm guessing the gun makers will just quit doing business in California. That should be interesting.1 point

I read the story on Brietbardt and still have the same opinion I have alway's had- Abortion is not a right under the Constitution but firearm ownership is- In my mind the Constitution takes the win-all arguments aside and no matter how they try to argue or verify it abortion is not a Constitutional right- No matter how Newson tries to frame it one is right guaranteed by the Constitution and the other is not- So trying to frame gun control is not the same-1 point

Stopped in at lunch today, to check out the ammo situation there. They have a lot of ammunition in and there is no limit. But the prices are not good. 9mm FMJ any grain is $36. .45ACP 230 Gr FMJ is $35. I saw 40 S&W, .223, 7.62x39, .308 among other calibers. It's the most ammunition I've seen in one spot in over a year! Also they have the Uncle Mikes IWB waist band holsters down to $2.99. They are nylon but with the double belt clips. I think they make great starter holsters for CC.1 point

I dont see it as revenge. It's simply using the tools that have now been opened. If one side is able to use a rule and set precedent they have to be prepared for that precedent to be used. I'd rather not have either law. Hopefully the texas law loses so the other will too.1 point

Not that I agree with Newsom’s proposal, but it’s a very good strategy. Some of these governors and lawmakers have to realize that once you open that door, it may swing both ways.1 point

I’ve been searching for a 38 super and haven’t had any luck with anywhere local. Anyone know of anything in Tennessee??! Lmk @25699730521 point

Love it. It's in my carry rotation on a regular basis. Soft shooting, reliable & accurate. Everything one wants in a carry gun. TGC also has a Les Baer in .38Super, which is why I asked your budget range. I've got several Baers but none in .38Super, which I'd love to have. Have you looked at Gun Broker yet?1 point

I stopped by Shoot Point Blank yesterday to do some shooting. I was hoping to snag a few boxes of 9mm but I couldn't stomach $25.99/50 rounds. They had a lot of ammo on the shelves. All different calibers. It does seem like their prices are coming down though. @Moped reported 9mm was $36 in July.1 point

The Gun Crew in Hermitage has some. I bought my Colt LW Commander in .38 Super from them, so they stock them pretty regularly. They stock lots of ammo as well. What's your target price range?1 point

As a white guy, I can, and HAVE walked ALL OVER Memphis without being bothered or scared. I used to regularly travel to Orange Mound and do mobile mechanic work with a toolbox full of valuable tools in my car. And that was before I started carrying. As Garufa said, you have no understanding of Memphis outside of the typical state narrative. Would you like to get into the nuts and bolts of the things that make Memphis crime stats look so bad? I’m not saying that there isn’t a problem here or that it’s some kind of safe Utopia. I just want you to understand that you don’t know this area like the people that live here and walk this walk every day.1 point

Most of Memphis’ issues are either drug-related or certain areas of the city or both. Remove the crime stats from all of the housing projects & areas of low income & the stats look minimal.1 point

I've tried to own a Sig P320 twice in the past. I bought a P320 Compact very early on and thought the grip felt like a bar of soap. I would absolutely compare Sig's efforts to homogenize the size and shape of the human hand to Apple's own efforts to model the "average human ear" with the first generation iPhone Ear Buds. They didn't fit me worth a damn and neither did the Sig. Fast forward a few years and I bought a Sig P320 Compact X-Series RXP. It had a much better grip but it still somehow felt slippery and weird to me. I'm one of those weird people who thinks Smith and Wesson did a great thing with the grip texture on the M&P M2.0 even though most folks think it feels like sandpaper. Recently I became aware that Polymer 80 was producing a grip module for the Compact (15-round) and Carry (17-round) size guns. I also became aware that Sig was producing an Carry model intended for law enforcement, called the X-Carry Pro RXP. Like the other RXP that I owned previously, the slide was milled for the Romeo-1 optic and also had rear iron sights. it came in the 17-round Carry grip with three mags and a special "Pro" version of the Romeo-1 that includes a steel shroud around the optic to add some protection to it, and a 6.5MOA dot - which is entirely my preferred size. Most importantly, however... the dudes at C&H Precision Weapons are now producing an adapter plate that allows you to drop a Holosun HE509T optic where the Romeo-1 was supposed to sit. Be still my beating heart! The combination of things resulted in a gun with a near 1911 grip angle, a grip that isn't slippery but also not too rough, and my preferred enclosed-emitter optic. Hell, the factory Sig X-Ray night sights are even perfectly sized to allow a lower 1/3 cowitness for the dot. I should buy a lottery ticket because everything with this combo was just coming up Millhouse. Alright... enough jibber jabber. Here's some gun porn. Click it to make it bigger. I took it to the range this morning and got the dot dialed in. It's a shooter. Oh, here's what it looked like out of the box. This lasted all of about 10 minutes. Not bad, really, but not my jam.1 point

Well, damn. Wilson Combat actually makes a grip module that I like better than the Polymer 80. This is their Carry II (Carry 2) variant made for the X-Carry 3.9" barrel models. It has a metal mag release, unlike the Polymer 80 grip. The circumference of this is somewhere between the medium and small grips produced by Sig Sauer. The texture is just right on the side panels and even more right on the front strap and back strap.1 point

I'm a collector. As such, I have no interest in scoping or otherwise modifying old milsurps. However, I do understand why others were so inclined when both Mosin guns and surplus ammo were so inexpensive. Now that neither of these are readily available or cheap on either the primary or secondary markets, I'm not sure what the attraction is. There are far better platforms in modern rifles for building accurate range or hunting guns. It's also probably cheaper to build a modern rifle than an old Mosin, at least if you're paying today's prices for the guns ...1 point
