  11. Not really, as most of mine stay locked up in my cabinet. My kids could get into it of they really wanted to, but I try to diffuse their curiosity by letting them see/handle them when they ask. I wish I could take them shooting more often, but bb guns in the backyard is about as good as it gets these days.

  13. Makes it sound bad, but we have no idea. I know some of us might rarely have a week where we DO NOT buy a gun, Or it could have been the first pistol they owned. Even could have been meant as a gift for another family member outside the household. Sadly for those of us with older teen kids, it is a worry to NOT give them training and access to the guns in case of an emergency, but also a worry that if they do, then they could be misused. No perfect answer. I had access and training on guns since I was 5. My dad, grandfather, and great grandfathers were putting food on the table with a gun from an early age. Hard to think that you have to remove the option for your 17 year old to protect themselves if the house is broken into.

  15. I am an engineer and three threads is a common rule of thumb that works in many applications but it is a generalization. It does not take into account coarseness of threads (TPI) and major diameter. The 3 full threads rule of thumb is based on an 80% hold strength. There is a point of diminishing return where the added strength/benefit of additional threads is diminished for each additional thread. You absolutely want the muzzle device seated on the shoulder of the barrel. The shoulder is not concentric to the OD, in fact barrel OD is irrelevant unless you have a fit over / fit in requirement. The shoulder must be perpendicular to the bore axis. The typical GD&T call out for the shoulder is a max of .001 or .002 perpendicularity to the bore. Similarly the mating face of the muzzle device has a typical perpendicularity call out of .001 to .002 max to the internal thread depending on manufacturer. Concentricity must be held between the muzzle thread OD and bore axis as well as the muzzle device thread ID to both the external adapter thread OD and the muzzle devices bore axis. Again a quality manufacturer is going to spec/hold .002 to .003 max concentricity on those features. If there is a tapered seating surface for the engagement of the suppressor on the muzzle device it also must be held concentric to the muzzle device internal thread. Our call out for that is .002 max to the internal thread.

  16. I'll be honest, I've never seen a wild pig in the daylight. I've killed hundreds at night, but I'm shooting at thermal images on a screen. To see one walk in under my deer stand would be outstanding. Congratulations.

  20. What a great lady! Working with traumatic children is so hard, but also rewarding. One of my roles was working in an inpatient facility for children and adolescents who had experienced severe emotional, sexual, and physical trauma. I went home many nights sad for the pain that I had heard and experienced, but grateful in my hope that, at least for a moment, I had helped a child feel safe . . .

  21. Retired after 26 years in the AF then worked as a trim carpenter for about 5 years and ended up owning the company myself. I had a real nice gig until the bottom fell out in 2008. Sold the business just in time... had a quad bypass 3 months later and ended up traveling to AZ with the missus as she finished up her AF career. Been retired ever since while the wife works from home part time since this covid crap hit. Now I'm just trying to lead a stress free life. So far so good.

  23. Good analysis. The still frame from taken from the house POV in this article tells the whole story in my opinion. In the vid Read appears at the moment of shooting to be standing almost at attention arms at side and at least 7 feet? or more away from the pointed carbine. Looks like he had almost come to his senses and realised what a dangerous situation he got himself into. He was standing still. No immediate threat like moments earlier. Texas law and a good lawyer might save shooter but at that moment in time, killing the man was just wrong and .. smacks of revenge, anger and loss of control. 3:15 just sticks in my head, dead man kept repeating that. Jesus help me but I've been that stupid angry in my younger days. When you're right and know it, you're willing to die on that hill to prove it. Too bad he didn't just walk away and deal with it some other way. His Kid has the vid now to haunt him for the rest of his life. And the bad living situation he probably had is now 100 times worse I'm guessing.

  29. Reminds me of a Remington 514 I'm holding for a friend. Its a factory shot bore 22. It has a 24 3/4" barrel with 12.5" of open bore thats nearly 7/16ths" in diameter. The bore below that has no rifling. The only visual give away is a shotgun bead on the end aside from the shot bore stamping. I suppose that 52 may be a few decibles quieter like that? All tho a standard vel 22 maxes out its velocity rather early in the bore and it may be an effort to find its max FPS. Its thought that the end barrel bore drag on slowing the bullet has some negative effect on accuracy in the shot to shot consistancy. Who knows, that 52 might be pretty kick ass with some std vel Eleys!

  30. What I make of all that is a first class chinese fire drill. Reminds me of the Pedo Biden administration: no organizational skills, no plan, piss poor execution and deflecting blame onto others. I still ask why the guns weren't locked up & under the total control of the armorer? If she wasn't on-set, the guns shouldn't have been available, IMO. Libtards are always lamblasting gun owners when a firearm is stolen: "Why wasn't it locked away?" Well, right back at them, IMO.

  31. Not YouTube experts, seasoned actors. The other video was taken down, here is the same one, with extended clips. John Schneider explains many of the on set procedures, which I am sure are part of most, but apparently not all sets. I, at first, gave him the benefit of the the doubt, because frankly I did not know how things work on set. I was under the impression that the gun wrangler would be the last safety check, and that the actors would not be expected to know how to perform a rudimentary safety check on a weapon. But like John Schneider says in the video, safety briefings are conducted showing actors and other set personnel the weapons, real or not, are safe. And how to confirm that they still are when they get them.

  33. I mentioned this before but when it comes to actual fake news it seems to be more prevalent on right wing websites. I'm not talking about biased news we see on liberal outlets either. I also don't trust those sites at all from a privacy and security standpoint. If I see zero hedge I won't even open it anymore.
