I’d go one further and just say never act this way. Unless the fighters are being paid for it professionally, there’s no such thing as winning a fight between adults. Everyone involved is a loser.7 points

It will never be over. First of all, it’s a virus. Unless the entire human population suddenly has a burst of evolution to overcome the endless mutations this and any other virus are capable of, it will always be with us. Second, the fundamental change in society it has brought about in less than two years is frightening and rather disturbing, but is quite lucrative for our “overlords”. World governments and their endless supply of bureaucrats and mouthpieces have found a great way to exert their ultimate power. That being said, I still do not take the Covid situation lightly and recommend the basic precautions we have been given and advised on.4 points

My family is here for Thanksgiving and my grandson (13) and granddaughter (11) wanted to get my squirrel rifle out for some target practice. We took the Marlin/w Leupold scope out, and went to the back yard range. They started shooting at hanging steel then graduated to hedge apples. They liked to see them explode after hitting them. I am shocked how good they can shoot. Their mother is a natural shot and they take after her. We were shooting the apples and steel from about 50 ft. Their mother backed away to 75' and busted 3 apples out of 3 off-hand. She has always been a crack shot with any gun. She has asked for my Henry Big Boy 38/357 lever gun when I am through with it. Told her she could have it, but not right now. It is hers and my favorite long gun. I ain't through with it yet. We plan to get the bigger stuff out Friday. They can shoot up a wad of ammo if I allow them. We shot a 3rd of a box of 555 22LR this morning. Gave the neighbors something to think about. We waited until 10:30 to begin, out of respect. Their gone horseback riding now. OH, rest for the weary. We are blessed to have them all week. Love it. Going to give my Father's Remington Mdl 11 48 16 Ga semi auto shotgun, along with a new in the box Remington 1911 A1, when we go down to visit them in February L/w. I think Parker will treasure his great grandfather's old shotgun. I will say he is showing some hormones this season. Puberty, do you guys remember? Kinda a rough time for young men, best I recollect. Their both good kids. Just fun memories, guys.3 points

Savage 12 long range precision rifle. Probably has a couple of thousand rounds thru the pipe but still shoots a tight group. It’s only been fired from a bench. 6.5 creedmoor with 26” fluted barrel and the red trigger. I’ve enjoyed it but no longer have a need for it. Buyer to meet with seller in the Mt. Juliet, Hermitage area unless other arrangements are agreed on before purchase. $900.00 cash to a Tennessee resident only. I would consider trades for high end 22lr rifles.2 points

I just saw the footage of this today. Never a good idea to stick around when guns come out and your feet are NOT on your property. As for the shooter I don't know about the rest of you but I know of at least one gun buddy that would react this way if he were put in this situation. Some people overreact and/or panic under stress.2 points

I agree. I'm just saying I didn't see anything in that confrontation that warranted killing meathead. Stupidity from all involved.2 points

When someone brings out a gun and you can walk away, do it. Seems pretty simple. Meathead thought he was bigger and badder and found out he wasn’t.2 points

I'm really having a hard time buying self defense on this one the more I think about it. It really looked like the shooter was HOPING for an excuse to kill him. That doesn't mean the dead guy was innocent. At minimum, he made horrible decisions.2 points

Thanks guys. Going to be doing the transaction at an FFL in Charleston SC. Carolina Arms.2 points

Sounds like I picked a good time to get my booster. I got the Moderna jab yesterday along with a flu shot. I can now say I've had two different two vaccines since I got the J&J dose in April. Since the J&J was least effective that was the main reason I wanted to get a booster. So far, the only side effect is the typical sore arm.2 points

Got my booster about a week ago. Information is still scarce, but it seems this new Omicron variant is seriously spooking the powers that be. I have a real bad feeling that Covid is nowhere near over.1 point

I got my booster about a week ago. I’m willing to take another if needed simply because people are nasty.1 point

The new vid angle shows clearly when shot was fired there was ample distance between them. No need to shoot unless mouth charged. If that guy was that distance from me and I already had it pointed at him......No way I would have shot at that moment. That's if you objectively take all emotion out of the equation. And yes I have been emotional and angry as these people at times in my life. Watching this vid just makes me sad for all involved. I'm going to go hug my family now.1 point

I picked up some of this earlier this morning. Thank you for the heads-up @papa61!1 point

@deerslayer, Congrats on the 15 year Tacoma anniversary! They are great trucks that accomplish a lot for their size. A little PM now & again is all they ask in return for years of troublefree service. I love my 2001. I can relate to your post. Your truck looks great, by the way.1 point

*Note - distilling any amount of alcohol for consumption is illegal on a federal level without proper permits. This post is for educational purposes and discussion only. All activities are conducted legally and safely* If you haven't ever considered it a small still could be a life saver in a grid down situation. Using white table sugar, corn, mollases or any other edible sugar source can be turned into high proof alcohol suitable for drinking, disinfectant, small engine fuel, fire starter etc. The exact same still setup can be used to distill water for purification, distill essential oils, etc. Its a worthwhile skill to learn and the entry cost for a small, sub 10 gallon still with all the parts needed is usually less than $500. Just something to consider to help your preps.1 point

Indeed. There are many unexpected blessings to growing older. With all of my kids now grown and out of the house, I am secure in the knowledge I will never again have to visit a theme park, and will never have to watch another Disney animated movie. Cheers, Whisper1 point

My good buddy and fellow member bigun has been having some mobility problems that were getting progressively worse lately. He and I usually touch base via text or phone on a daily basis but he dropped off the radar a couple of weeks ago. I got a message from his daughter about four days later telling me he was in the hospital and was improving so decided to wait until I knew more before posting anything. He is now out of the hospital and in a rehab facility so he's still making progress. I'm sure he would appreciate any prayers, well wishes or any other encouragement sent his way. The facility just lifted their 'no visitor' policy this week so I was able to pay him a short visit yesterday.1 point

I saw on the news a little while ago that the Orpheum Theater in Memphis has canceled the live stage musical of The Lion King. It was supposed to run for a week. They got in the first show, but then cast and crew members tested positive for Covid. Not sure, but I think the whole tour is now canceled. Lots of disappointed theater fans. Tickets for this are pretty expensive. Many didn't know the show was canceled until they showed up at the theater. I'm not much for live theater myself. But this was a big deal in Memphis. They've been advertising it for weeks. Its a major social event here.1 point

Been looking for one of these. Sadly they come in 2 variations...very good and very high priced. Or...rusted out and a very high price.1 point

A lot of very serious people I know are really paying attention to this variant being sequenced out of South Africa. None of us are out of this until all of us are out of it.1 point

I’m slowly getting better. I have COPD and it put me in the hospital again. I thank everyone for the prayers and well wishes. Some of y’all I have met in person most i have not. But it makes you feel good to read the comments. Chip is a true friend indeed. We keep a check on each other important when you live alone. Anyway thank y’all.1 point

Ego will get you killed faster than anything else. It’s a sad case all around, especially for the son who lost his father in all of it. At some point he’s going to likely end up seeing the video of his dad getting killed. I can’t imagine how devastating that will be for him.1 point

Pretty sure the guy did not think the shooter would actually fire. That's the only thing that I can come up with. I agree it would be tough to argue he felt his life was threatened until the guy said he would take it from him and kill him with is. I think the shooter thought that bringing the gun out would run the guy off. I have never thought thinking someone will not use their firearm or that pulling it to scare someone was wise.1 point
-
AFTER the shooter fired at the other guy’s feet. Not sure why he grabbed the shooter and slung him away—distance gives the shooter a big advantage. Either get out of Dodge or fight like hell for control of the gun. I’m not sure what TX law is, but you can’t shoot someone for trespassing in TN. I don’t see how the shooter argues that he was in fear for his life, etc.1 point

While I understand the good intentions and such behind this post, I’m going to preemptively take action and close it down. I appreciate that all who have posted so far did so with thoughtfulness and care, but it’s best to not tempt fate any further. Now I’m gonna put the phone down until tomorrow and spend some time with the family. Happy thanksgiving y’all!1 point

Yep, and those on the left have a similarly long list of Republican politicians that they believe prove conservatives are stupid, incompetent, and immoral. Extremists on both the left and the right cry loudly that their side is good and the other evil...while those who make money off that kind of divisiveness cheer it all on. Aren't we ready for something better than that?1 point

So decided since this rifle has been free so far I would try something different before I decide to cerakote the rifle. The epoxy in the stock cured tight so I hand sanded the stock and forearm down to 800 grit. Then I used a method I found online of putting on tru oil and mixing it with Armor all. It has a catalyst effect on the tru oil causing it to cure faster and harder. I was able to hand rub a dozen coats of tru oil into the stock and forearm. I then went after the receiver. I wet sanded it down to 1k grit, then using a technique I used on knives, I did a mustard and vinegar steam patina in the receiver. The result is a gray, antique worn look. It looks much better than the rusty freckles tat where on it. For now Im gonna call this one good enough for the deer woods.1 point

So this is where Im at now. The cracked is sealed completely with acralock. I drilled a blind hole through the bottom and seated a 1/4" rod about 4" long into the stock and acralocked into place. I decided to just leave the black dot. I can always use wood filler later to help blend it. The stock is hand sanded to 220. The pictures are with it whipped down with a damp rag. Thats the final color im after. Next comes hand sanding to 600 grit then a truoil finish. Then the forearm will get the same treatment. Im happy with it. Total repair cost to date $01 point

I use a water bed heater wrapped around my mash barrel in the off season to keep it up to working temp. Ive never had an issue with milky whiskey but I run a thump keg which serves to help up the proof and works as a slobber box.1 point
-
Education and Information wise you have to have a warm place for the mash to work and when it stops working you either run it or add more sugar. You also need to make a trap of sorts with a bottom valve that goes between the cooker and the cooling coil otherwise if you get to really cooking the mash you will puke it and your whiskey will be milky1 point

I'm embarrassed RED hit it dead on. I hadn't looked closely at the feed lips. both mags are pinched at the front, one more than the other. I will have to get a new battery for my calipers and see if I can re-align them. At worst it's two new mags. Thank you everyone! As an extra, the springs can't be put in wrong. round springs fit in front of mag with alignment pins on internal base and follower. plastic followers. followers show only surface wear with no furrows. I got this second hand and have no clue how the lips got bent. very little wear anywhere on this little gun, not even broken in good yet I suspect.1 point
-
I would guess it's more of a follower issue and it not being at the optimum angle. I would bend up the very tips of the magazine just a bit and see if it helps. Two different things of course, but if the follower can push the round up just slight more, it may solve the issue.1 point
