*Note - distilling any amount of alcohol for consumption is illegal on a federal level without proper permits. This post is for educational purposes and discussion only. All activities are conducted legally and safely* If you haven't ever considered it a small still could be a life saver in a grid down situation. Using white table sugar, corn, mollases or any other edible sugar source can be turned into high proof alcohol suitable for drinking, disinfectant, small engine fuel, fire starter etc. The exact same still setup can be used to distill water for purification, distill essential oils, etc. Its a worthwhile skill to learn and the entry cost for a small, sub 10 gallon still with all the parts needed is usually less than $500. Just something to consider to help your preps.4 points

Just picked this one up off armslist tonight. Gonna make it into a nice brush gun hopefully. The stock has a 6" crack running forward from the butt plate and the bluing is starting to pop like most of the post 64 models. Plans are to either pin and refinish the stock along with the forearm or buy new and fit as necessary. Cerakote in Socom blue or whatever gets me the closest look to bluing from 5' since these models do not take bluing well. Add a Williams FP peep sight and a brass front blade. Shoot and enjoy.2 points

Been buying it when I can find it at Walmart, only buy the 325 round Federal Automatch. They have been getting it in pretty regular.I hadn’t seen any 550 round Federal packs in a long time , wish they would get some of that in.2 points

Only thing Feds could even charge him with would be civil rights violation. Since everyone & Ray Charles has seen the videos as well as the held-back FBI drone video, I doubt there's a Fed US Attorney that would touch this with a 10 foot AR. I could be wrong, there might be some complete idiot, affirmative action-hire that is dying to take it on & humiliate themselves much as Banger did? I don't know.2 points

It pisses me off that the liberals are calling for Federal intervention. They didn't get their way so now they want the feds to charge him with something, anything. Interesting how these so-called progressive thinkers can't understand the concept of double jeopardy. Hey! Cry baby! You lost! Get over it!2 points

Colt USGI Issue Front Sling, Side Swivel Mount. This model solidly clamps around the barrel, usually near the gas block. MSRP is $40, asking $15 shipped. I Will Take This.1 point

I used a barrel vise, not a action vise when I swapped out the OEM barrel on my RAR and ordered a nut wrench from the barrel maker. Used a pipe wrench on the smooth oem nut. No real problems. I have the Wheeler barrel vise, works good, about $60 or so. Pony up and buy the go and no go gages if this is your first barrel swap. You'll feel much better when it comes time to pull the trigger that first time on your new creation.1 point

Stetson Stratoliner everyday. I wore my last fur felt hat, a 40s vintage Bonner Pehlps until it fell apart. I bought this one in silverbelly. Reshaped the crown and brim myself, then added in a handcut grosgrain ribbon. Did all the mods to get what I wanted without spending a fortune. I wear it all day most days unless im working on something greasy that would ruin it.1 point

Civil rights violations are an all-encompassing net of available opportunities, IMO. Smacked some jackass because he insulted or laid hands on your wife but you're the wrong demographic? You violated his civil rights. Didn't let some asshat vote because they had no ID, couldn't speak English & so forth? You violated his civil rights. You promoted a guy who had 25 years experience but no degree over some female who has a degree but six months experience? You violated her civil rights. I don't believe ANY U.S. DA is willing to pick up the Rittenhouse turd by the clean end, because there isn't one. Banger thought he could spin, lie & pressure the jury into a conviction. Had he been in front of a weak judge (such as OJ's judge Ito), he may well have gotten away with it, IMO. I just hope the backlash from Middle America is enough to overcome the level of sheer stupidity from both coasts & celebrities. Add the media to that as well. But I would bet $100 that the next poor sap that shoots a rioter, regardless of the circumstances, is going to get convicted & see the inside of a prison. The left will do everything they can to ensure that.1 point

I don't really believe the feds can charge him with anything. However, powerful political people and liberal public opinion are pushing hard for it. Since when has a little detail such as the law ever gotten in the fed's way? Don't take anything for granted. I just e-mailed my Congress Critters to let them know how I feel. I suggest that you do too.1 point

A stroked 440. Now a 505. He talked to the guy and the guy will give him his money back on the short block as long as he returns the short block. To be honest, the guy has absolutely no idea what's happened to it since we got it. I'm shocked, but done working on it. Kind of a crappy deal for everyone. I don't know the guy that did the work. He thought my guy was high. He wants his number now.1 point

Unless it's over 26 inches. If it's over 26 inches, is considered a firearm or something else instead of a pistol or rifle. Clear as mud atf.1 point

Saw several does and a couple of baby spikes, along with a flock of turkeys. I spent the entire day in the stand and didn’t see one shooter buck. Wife wondered why I didn’t take some does. I told her if you’re like me and NOT an expert hunter the best chance for a buck is early season. I’d like to get a buck or two before I start taking does. Going to try again tomorrow morning Lord willing.1 point

The majority of the news media are certainly on the side of the political left, but it's a misunderstanding to believe they all are. News media on the side of the right do exist, they're just outnumbered: Newspapers -- there's the Washington Times and the New York Post; television -- there's Fox News and OAN. When you get to online sites it's more balanced -- there's a ton of right-leaning online media sites, and they range from thoughtful and well-reasoned to screaming hysterical tin-foil-hat conspiracists. As with all information provided by the news media, the consumer's best approach is to sample widely with extreme skepticism, use your critical thinking skills, and make your own decisions. This was my first stab at a flap holster as well as my first try at lacing. You'll notice an extra hole as I severely misjudged where the snap should be. Frustrating, but trial and error is about the only way a hard headed guy like me can learn.1 point

You already cited the example of William Randolph Hearst, who specialized in telling outright lies about people and policies and bears much personal responsibility for the Spanish-American War, so it's clear that there is nothing new about lying national news media. The scope of the lying is larger because the scope of news media is larger, but claiming that the lying itself is new or unique is simply incorrect.1 point

Anyone who shoots a rioter for ANYTHING is going to get charged these days. Doesn't matter the circumstances, the shooter IS going to get charged. Hell, the idiot lawyers in St. Louis didn't even fire their guns (the woman's wouldn't even work & the DA had the cops fix it, an illegal act itself) & they got charged & plea bargained to lower charges AND lost their guns. These thugs & punks are fully Dimocrat-supported AND shielded. Never forget that as we go about our holiday travels to enemy territory, gents. Video everything if you're involved in something. Videos are the only thing that saved Rittenhouse as ALL the prosecution witnesses lied under oath. ALL of them. Something to keep in mind.1 point
-
Of course that's true. Dickens spoke of it in some of his novels, and there were plenty of pamphlets printed before and during the revolution that told a single side of the story. William Randolph Hearst practically invented "yellow journalism" and made a fortune at it. But what we're seeing now seems different, probably because the internet makes it so easy to spread half-truths and lies. I could not care less what Alyssa Milano or high-school-drop-out Cher think about politics, but they've become loud voices for leftist policies, and have outsized influence. I think the scope of what we're seeing today, national news media telling outright lies about people or policies, IS unique, and worrisome.1 point

Just another thing that’s factually incorrect. They were assailants. Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty on the grounds of self defense. That means he was defending himself from assailants and he was the victim of their violent assaults.1 point

No, you sue everyone who defamed you by calling you a murderer, white supremacist, etc without being found guilty by a jury of your peers.1 point

Montgomery County is my favorite for shooting. But, you are stuck with fixed targets in each lane. Stones River has movable targets, and is the best place to sight in rifles. If I still lived there, I would have a membership at Strategic Edge.1 point

Yes, I'm very aware that many (most?) people really like their AR's. I tend to be much more of a collector than actual shooter, thus I like really old guns with some historicity about them, preferably made from wood and steel. Revolvers, along with old bolt action, black powder and single shot rifles are more up my alley than AR's and the current crop of plastic fantastic pistols. Each to his own ...1 point
