  1. One of the best hat makers in the country is up the road in Covington, Tn. The shop is only open to customers on the weekends. The rest of their time is spent making hats. They are definitely not cheap but they make something for everyone. https://www.buckaroohatters.com/ I had this one made on a whim. Out of one of my favorite movies.

  4. I got my flu shot Friday. I expected at least a sore arm or something. Nothing. Now, that could also be because I moved 3000 pounds of rock yesterday - and I’m pretty much sore from head to toe anyway.

  5. I was looking for a 7-08 or 270 as a spare, friend offered a excellent deal on a 280AI. It's really growing on me but I am very glad that I reload, as I wouldn't want to be buying factory loads for this one. I am using 139/140g & H4350 for whitetail, but I might start looking at 160g if elk was on the menu.

  6. I know this is not the answer to your question. I do not wear hats, unless it is below 30 degrees and the wind is blowing, even then I might take the hat off if I get to warm.

  8. I wanted a lever action and ended up with a '56 Savage 99 acquired from Best Gun Buddy. They have as neat a history as any firearm out there, have a 99 year run. Mine would be shooter grade, so it has an awesome patina and the case hardening on the level is pretty cool.

  10. Agreed. This season everything is up for grabs week to week and no one seems to be safe. Least of all my Irish!

  13. I hike with my Taurus 627 Tracker. It's a K-framed sized, 7 shot revolver in .357, with a ported 4" barrel. I carry it in a cheap recon chest pouch, that I bought off Amazon. I also carry two 7 round speedloaders and a first aid kit in the same pouch. I think the .357 is more than capable of handling either two legged or four legged threats.

  22. If it's the local black bears you're worried about, bear spray is a way better choice than a handgun. It's highly effective against them and you'll almost certainly never need it. Black bears are very rarely aggressive towards people. something like 60'ish people killed in the past 100+ years by them. If it's western Grizzlies, bear spray backed up by the biggest hand cannon (.500 or .454 Casull come to mind) I can manage and a paid up life insurance policy would be the way I'd go. For the 2-legged critters, carry what you always carry. An axe murderer on a trail is the same as an axe murderer in town.

  25. Well, somehow UT skinned out a win in Lexington! Defense couldn't stop beans but managed a pick 6 in the second half & a big stop on four downs with less than a minute left. They also allowed a 1st down conversion on 3rd & 24. UK killed themselves with the 15 yard penalty on the coach too. They dominated time of possession but couldn't cover a WR if their life depended on it. That cost them a game they should've won. GA will kill UT next week, IMO. No one has scored 14 against GA all year. Dominate defense. As I predicted, LSU gave Bama all they wanted. Didn't watch any of it but the score was close & LSU led early. The end of the Tulsa-Cincinnati game was hugely entertaining. 4 shots from the 2-3 yard line for Tulsa & they fumbled it on 4th down, right at the goal line. Horrible play calling, IMO. Arkansas came back to beat Miss State, that surprised me. SC beat Florida like a step child. I don't think the freshman QB for Florida is all his press clippings make him to be. I wonder if Mullin is out at Florida at the end of the year? I wonder if his players quit on him in this game? I didn't see it but Florida has more talent than SC, so something happened there. Titans signed Adrian Peterson this week. He appears to be in shape but not in "football shape". Hopefully he gives the Rams defense fits. LA is the real deal since Stafford got there, IMO.

  28. Good news for those seeking a better price on a new Python. The Gun Crew has several Pythons as well as an Anaconda for sale on GB that are blems. The Python has a "buy now" price of $1599, way less than the usual $2,000+ we usually see. I have NOT seen the blem guns, so I can't comment on how bad or how little the blem is. Regardless, it would seem to me to be worth saving $400-500 on a gun though, IMO. Here's an example of one. Python blem I buy a lot of my guns used in order to save a chunk of $$, so a blem wouldn't phase me in the least as long as it was fairly small. Thought this might help someone?

  34. As an escapee... listen to @Jeb48. Honestly, one of the reasons I moved. We had a shotgun for home defense, but crime was still creeping in and getting worse despite living in a small country town outside a Knox-sized city. Kids broke into our garage, wifey agreed, it was time to get a pistol. Friend of a friend was a county Sheriff, had a talk with him. Said save my time, won't get a permit here, and even if I did, wouldn't matter, NY doesn't have castle doctrine/stand your ground law. Can't shoot the perp even if you had a gun. Loooooong conversation short: even if I caught someone raping my daughter in the act, I should call the police. Argument is you remove the criminals right to a fair trial by acting as judge/jury and shooting them. Yes. Really. I now live in Tennessee, and you'll understand why I say "I found America, again!"

  36. The original LC9 sucked. it was hammer fired like the original LCP. So Ruger reconfigured it and created the LC9S, which is striker fired and has a terrific trigger. I have the Pro version of the LC9S and love it. It was my main carry for several years. Now I must confuse that I carry the LCP-Max most of the time now.

  41. You might be able to bore the barrel out to a larger caliber. That's a pretty normal thing to do with these because of the corrosion issues. They start out small and get bored out to .45, .50, ... on up to .69 before you can't go any bigger. It's usually the same barrel blank so a larger caliber a lighter rifle.
